I stop on every visit to Ft Lauderdale! Open really and they have the strongest coffee.as well as a huge selection of sandwiches and pastries. I was excited to learn there's a Cuban bakery near by. It wasn't very busy dining in but there were people in and out constantly. There were multiple staff helping out. There were so many items to choose from. Pastries are my weakness! I ordered some beef empanadas, guava puff pastry with and without cheese, tiramisu cake, ham croquettes, etc. Unfortunately, tiramisu has no espresso flavor and the cake was dry. We were in town and tried this bakery, we bought elephant ears, a type of bread pudding, Nutella croissant, a type of napoleon like bar with caramel on it and another dessert that was chocolate, caramel on a cake like base, that was the only thing that was yummy. Being from Miami you're used to seeing a Cuban bakery pretty much in any corner, now Ft. Lauderdale on the other hand is the total opposite. I need my Cuban pastelito fix once in a while and after looking at Yelp one morning I found this gem that other Yelp Elites, including the BPB boss, Blue A. had reviewed. The Cuban coffee and Café con Leche is on point. I usually ask the ladies to make mine dark since I rather taste coffee than milk or sugar and the ladies always come through with the perfect blend. The pastelitos are yummy, baked fresh daily. They have all types; beef, guava, guava & cheese and cheese. Think they run .75 cents each which is still affordable compared to some South Florida bakeries selling them for $1.50 or more. They also have Croquetas, Tequenos, pork chunks, Cuban toast and most normal bakery goods including sandwiches. They have a display of desserts as well. We have only tried the rice pudding (arroz con leche) which I must say is absolutely delicious, my daughter begs me for one every time. The lines get pretty ridiculous on the weekends around 11am-noon but service is pretty fast since they have multiple ladies working the counter. They have 5-6 tables and a counter with bar stools if you wish to stay and eat there. They have a tv that usually plays soccer or Spanish channel. I ordered a birthday cake for my dog's birthday (for the humans guests not the dogs), they did an amazing job decorating it with the same colors and theme as the picture I shared with them from a beautiful cake I found on Pinterest. It was a vanilla cake with cream filling, it was super moist and full of flavor, and the frosting was delicious! The cake was for 25 people, I was also able to get 3 trays of my choice of Hors d'oeuvres, I selected the ham and cheese bocaditos, the cheese and guava patries and the ham croquettas. Everything was made fresh from scratch and it came to a total of $45, an amazing deal!!! I hadn't even considered getting the Hors d'oeuvre platters, but after they showed me the deal with the cake it completely made sense to get them! Amazing value, and everyone loved the food. I also got a pork sandwich for lunch and it was tasty, on cuban bread with lots of nice chunks of pork, very traditional and tasty. The service was super friendly and patient with my requests for the party, and the cake and Hors d'oeuvre trays were ready for pick up the next day as promised. I am very impressed by their capabilities, the attention to detail and the amazing tasty cake and food they created for our special event. Everyone at the party kept on asking me where I got everything, all the Hors d'oeuvres got eaten right away, definitely enjoyed by my guests, as so was the delicious beautiful cake. Very clean place and that's what kept me from walking out. The Bottom of the refrigerator where all sodas and drinks are kept was Lilly white and the glass on the doors were spotless (SEE Picture). Simple menu (SEE PICTURE)at extremely affordable prices. A Midnight Sandwich for $4.50! Pan con Lechon at $4.00-- WHAT...!!!?? Lots of baked goods are offered along with Cuban coffee and daily specials. They also will make custom birthday/special occasion cakes right there on the premises. I ordered a Midnight Sandwich and my son ordered a Chicken Sandwich($6.00) and both were fresh and delicious! I also ordered a slice of flan cheesecake and a Café con Leche (there goes my Keto diet). My last couple of weeks have consisted of my old Sunday morning tradition: Cuban breakfast. I always brag about how much I love Broward VS Miami. The traffic is better. People are nice. But, there's one thing I really, really, really miss about Miami. There's a Cuban bakery on EVERY corner. Not so much here. So, since I moved here, I haven't really had my Cuban fix as often as I used to. Well, now that I found this little bakery, that might all change. I'm NEVER leaving Broward now. Well, maybe never. Anywho, on to the bakery. Walking in here it's legit, no frills. The cases are filled with desserts, pastries and fried goodies. You can get Cuban bread by the load. The coffee machine is blaring with a loud sound that will wake you up almost as much as the rocket fuel it produces. The place looks just like the bakeries in Miami - even in a kind of rundown shopping center, but don't let that scare you. Those are the best bakeries. The service wasn't bad - but they did take a mighty long time. There were only two gals behind the cases - and they took a really long time with all of the orders. I think having an extra pair of hands would really help. Pastelitos - I got the guava, cheese and guava&cheese. I only had the cheese one - kind regret not having the others - but it was fantastic! The guava ones were calling my name, but I was too stuffed, so I left the box at my friends house. Croquetas - crispy on the outside - gooey on the inside. The taste was good and they are a good size. Chicharron - this was a treat I wasn't even expecting to get till I saw it in the case. This is fried pork belly. The skin was a little chewier than I'd like, but the meat part was excellent. This style of chicharron seemed a little more Colombian than Cuban, but it'll do. Cafe con leche - Literally translates to coffee with milk...and it's excellent. They ask if you want it with sugar already, so if you don't like your cafecito super sweet, opt for sugar on the side. I'd only had coffee once in the last 3 weeks, so this was a nice pick-me-up after the long night before. They also make sandwiches, which I might try next time. 5 Stars for a legit Cuban bakery in Fort Lauderdale. Pro-tip: Get the toast. Every time. Being a Miami native living in Orlando, I am often missing a good, authentic corner Cuban spot. While visiting a fellow Miami ex-pat in Fort Lauderdale he knew the way to my heart was through pastelitos. We ordered guava pastries, quesitos (sugary baked good with a sweet cheese filling), tostada (pressed Cuban bread slathered in melted butter), croquetas, and I threw in a few alfajores (Cookies sandwiching a dulce de leche center). My faves were the Cuban toast (all of the drool that morning) and quesitos. The toast was salty, crunchy perfection and held up well when dipped in a cafe con leche. The questions were flaky and had that signature melted sugar bottom that you know will kill you one day, but couldn't care less. The shop had sandwiches and other great pastries and desserts, so it's not just a breakfast spot.
