Wanted to give a huge compliment to the manager on duty Saturday night on 5.30.26. We were supposed to go to another restaurant. But when my partner asked me what I really felt like I said Casa Playa or Chimney house. So we raced to get there at 9:30ish starving. Good thing we asked the kind manager first if they would still serve us food since they closed at 10.. He was kind enough to tell us they would serve us no problem. Glad we asked as the male server who who wasn't even serving us) was quick to walk by when he saw us, not to greet us but to tell us the kitchen was closed. Then seemed annoyed when the manager confirmed we were ok. Thanks buddy. Thankfully we were being served by the kind male bartender with the female server being sweet enough to bring us menus We made sure to have our order in as soon as asked. The male bartender was great. Friendly and made us feel welcome. I have been to this restaurant many times because I love Chimney house and these are the same owners. So I was truly grateful that the bartender, female server and manager were so kind. The owners do a great job as hiring such great team members. Because of the managers hospitality we asked about future events and have already planned to stay at an air bnb across the street for the upcoming soccer games. Small acts of kindness go a long way for keeping locals happy with your business. The food is always consistently amazing. The ambience is just right with the perfect lighting, set up and views. Was in FLL a few weeks ago and decided to try Casa Playa on a whim as it was located near our hotel. My son and I decided to drop in for a lunch as the menu looked interesting. The location was excellent - just a block off the beach and the ambiance was a lovely chic casual. We were there as it opened and sat outside on the patio. The service was wonderful - attentive and friendly. The menu had multiple items of interest, but being a lunch visit we decided to try not to over order. We decided to split the ceviche and my son opted for the ropa vieja while I chose the paella. The ceviche was great! Bright, fresh and perfect for a Florida midday meal. I only wish I could recall which one we ordered As for the main dishes - we have a split experience. The ropa vieja was decent according to my son - but not on par with his experiences down in Miami. My paella left a bit to be desired - it was more of a simple rice dish. The flavors were fine, with the chorizo coming though without being overly heavy, but it was missing that crisp rice at the bottom of the pan that truly makes a good paella. This was more of a less creamy risotto So, in hindsight - Casa Playa seems to work for the Peruvian dishes, but perhaps is reaching a bit with the other Latin dishes. I will note that at bar area looked great and this would definitely be a hot spot for evening cocktails and enjoyment Would definitely go back to try more of the menu! read more

This was our first time here. It was nice because it was a little off the main road. We didn't had a reservation but were seated quickly. They have indoor and outdoor seating; we chose outdoor. Service was friendly and helpful. We started with the grilled octopus and empanadas as appetizers, which were pretty good; there was mostly potatoes with only one piece of octopus for $19 tho and the empanadas weren't as crispy/flaky as I like. For our mains, my husband had the arroz marinero (paella), which he said was good. My daughter had the whole snapper, which she loved and devoured. We stopped by here for a quick bite at the bar inside. It was mostly empty early afternoon on a Saturday. Beautiful weather, not too loud and a great vibe. Joey, the bartender, was super friendly and attentive. I ordered an espresso martini and it was well made and not overly sweet or strong. For the bites, we ordered the Spanish Mussles and the Antichucos de Lomo (beef Skewers). The mussels were well cooked and came with Italian bread I believe. It doesn't hold together as well as French bread but the mussels had good flavor. I was interested in the Chorizo but with it sitting in the broth, it wasn't my favorite. I think it also could have used a little garlic but otherwise okay. The Beef skewers were good and well cooked. One of my friends lives across the street from the new Casa Playa. Three of us decided to check it out for dinner on a Thursday night. It's a full block off the A1A, so very few tourists would stumble upon the spot unless they knew about it. The restaurant ambiance is upscale (from the A1A spring break tourist row) beautiful with a large open bar, outdoor and indoor dining tables, and private room. It gives off a very "airy and breezy" vibe. The cuisine and cocktail focus is Peruvian. Their on the rocks margarita variations are fabulous! Of course they also serve Piscos. Most of the menu appeared to be classical or clasico dishes with acknowledgement of the ethnic diversity of Peru. We shared a Tuna Ceviche Nikkei, a Japanese-Peruvian fusion ahi tuna ceviche. We gobbled it up and wished for more. Ric N went for a traditional Peruvian Fried Seafood Jalea, lightly breaded, deep fried calamari, mussels, shrimp, scallops and clams. It was delicious, especially with the lime salsa criolla. Rick L ordered Lomo Saltado, a classic Cantonese-Peruvian fusion wok stir-fried dish of steak strips, red onions, tomatoes, French fries and soy sauce, served over rice. It did taste like an excellent Chinese takeout. I jumped at my favorite Peruvian dish, Lechon Asado, slow-marinated roast pork with the usual black beans, sautéed onions and sweet plantains. Except for not getting any roasted skin on high I love, it was as very tasty. Service was great, possibly because except for a small office dinner party at one table finishing up, we were the only ones dining inside. Regardless, we will definitely be back. We ordered the chicken lomo and the Argentina red shrimp. Both dishes were absolutely delicious! As a Dominican, I have high standards for tostones, and these definitely met the mark. They were perfectly crispy and seasoned. The rice was fluffy, and the chicken was flavorful. The chicken empanadas were delicious, on a crispy dough with flavorful chicken. The passion fruit mousse was a delightful treat, though the portion size was a bit excessive. The tangy flavor was intense, so be prepared for a powerful punch! The only minor disappointment was the limeade. It was overly tart and didn't quite complement the meal. We had an amazing time at Casa Playa for our wedding rehearsal dinner in March 2026. Our 25 guests were given a yummy welcome drink before being escorted to the upstairs loft. The food was amazing and they offered a variety of options with 3 appetizers, 6 entrees, and 2 deserts. We enjoyed the guacamole Costeno with green plantain chips and empanadas for appetizers. For entrees, I had the Ropa Vieja and my husband had the lechon asado which were both delicious. Desert consisted of a yummy Tres Leches Cake and Passion Fruit Mousse. The service was fast and the staff attentive. Frank helped plan and organize everything. He was easy to work with throughout the process and even organized to have us driven from the hotel to dinner in their moke. We are so grateful to Frank and Casa Playa staff for making our rehearsal dinner a success. It set a great tone for the weekend. We came down to Florida for a Bachlorette Party and this was by far the worst place to ever eat at. We were served by the so-called "manager" Joey, nice guy at first but turned out to be a total nightmare. The food was OK, but it did take forever to come out. At most, there were like 4 tables throughout the whole experience. we told him we were splitting the checks before we ordered anything. And at the end, he struggled to split everything and then somehow brought back our checks in their checkbooks and threw it all down at the center of the table. ALL of the tabs were all wrong and everyone was charged for someone else's tab. And not to mention, The bride's debit card was also missing and we told him that and he practically yelled at her and the bride's mom as if it was our fault it was missing and the tabs were wrongly charged. He started to get verbally agitating against us like we were the problem so the bride's mom came up to the bar table to calmly tell him that he shouldn't treat us the way he was because we were customers. His response was to throw SOMEONE ELSE'S credit card back to her. We were over it, paid it, and just left. to top off the experience, Joey came running half a mile down the side walk chasing us telling us he gave us a "discount" and then calling us out of our name, and I quote "you bunch of bitches, go get educated, fuck you, don't come back," etc. this experience was very unprofessional, very disturbing & not worth to give business to. The decor in this restaurant was aesthetically pleasing and gave me a lot of inspiration ideas. I ordered two of their tapas and a drink. The waitress that attended to me was very kind and she had great recommendations which I ended up ordering. The spicy tuna tartar guacamole was delicious. It did need a bit more salt but that is preference. The Argentinian empanadas were baked which I appreciated instead of fried and I got both beef and chicken but I liked the chicken one a lot more. I absolutely loved this place! I started with the So Flo Mojito which was so much better than I thought it would be, it was very refreshing! The ceviche was so good but the mussels were okay, I wish they came with bread or chips though since it's raw. Also, the menu said potato salad and they served it with French fries. I was never asked what I wanted, they just decided to go off the menu and give me something else. The prices are also high. $5.00 for a Coke. Who charges that? My lunch with tax and tip was $25.40. That is insanely expensive. Yes, I know it's near the beach, but it's still entirely too expensive. Owned by the same people who bring us The Chimney located by the Broward Performing Arts center, I knew I was in for a treat given I LOVE the food there. Casa Playa has been open for about a month at the time of my visits. The first time I went, I just sat at their outdoor bar and watched the world go by. Our drinks were well poured and on this Saturday night, they had live music (Spanish guitar) which added just the right touch to my evening. On my second visit, I brought a group of 5 and they took really good care of us. We sat outside and while I thought it might be too hot, given they are only a couple of blocks from the ocean and have ceiling fans it was very comfortable. Service was good and it's clear that they work as a team as some brought drinks and others food but they all communicated so nothing was lost between the various people. The drinks were well poured. We had a range of drinks from their version of a Moscow mule to Sangria, Margaritas and their passion fruit pisco. I'd be happy just to go back and get more of those wonderful drinks. We started with some appetizers- the empanadas both beef and chicken (the beef was the winner!), the spicy tuna tartar guacamole (complex but delicious!) and the fried calamari. All were very good. For our entrees we split a couple of the lomo saltados (stir fried steak with onions tomatoes and fries) as well as the arroz marinero (seafood paella). So good and plenty of leftovers to enjoy another night. Given we were a "large party of 5" they did automatically add a 20% tip to our bill but they were very good about calling it out so that we were aware. If you drive- there is paid street parking in the area, and The Tiffany condo which is the building this is in, also has valet parking for $10. Casa Playa is such a welcome addition to this area! The owners of The Chimney House in Fort Lauderdale recently opened a new restaurant called "Casa Playa", located at 401 North Birch Road in Fort Lauderdale, about a half mile Southwest of the Sunrise/A1A intersection. We arrived for an 8 PM reservation on Friday night and were a bit surprised at how empty the place was. There were only two tables taken on the outdoor patio and there were a handful of people at the bar, but that's about it. I chalked it up to the place being pretty new and the word perhaps not getting out yet, in addition to the fact that it's a bit off the beaten path off the beach. I hope they succeed though because they put a lot of money into the place and the decor was beautiful. To start, we shared an order of shredded chicken empanadas which had a flaky crust and wasn't overly fried, just how I like them. For entrees I got the "Arroz Marinero" seafood paella and my friend got the Ropa Vieja, which we both enjoyed. My one complaint, however, was that the paella portion size was very small for the $32 price tag. By comparison, Cafe Seville charges $60 for a portion that's at least 3x the size and could serve 2/3 people or 2 meals minimum for 1 person. Granted, I appreciated that they offered an individual portion, but I just feel that $32 was a bit much for what I got. It very good though. For dessert, we shared an order of the flan, which was excellent. Total tab including the 3 cocktails we had was $134 before tip. I do recommend giving this place a chance, as it's a beautiful space and both the service and food were excellent. I would just say that if you're really hungry, you're gonna need to get at least one or two appetizers in order to be full at the end, because the entrée portions are small. read more

This quiet Ft Lauderdale restaurant has a great open air bar and patio seating. The staff are highly trained and the food we had was delicious! We stopped for happy hour about a block away from our rental. Why did we wait so long to come here? The So Flo Mojito was a generous size and delicious. My husband's Estrella lager was cool and crisp. He had empanadas from the happy hour menu and I had the Peruvian calamari. Both were delicious and a little on the spicy side.
