While the food here is excellent the service is completely horrible. They brought my wife's food and my food and when my wife asked if they can please darken the hash brown some more they side pick them up and took them to the kitchen. So my wife was there eating her eggs and her bacon and I was eating my eggs and after 10 minutes I asked one of the girls if the hash browns have been prepared properly as requested when we first ordered? Once again the waitress side went back and immediately picked up the same order of hash browns still not cooked as average requested. This is the type of service that they perform here is not acceptable. But one thing they do is ask you if you want to leave a tip for service. Getting a tip means you've done something right. In my opinion this whole thing was not correct. You pay for a meal you spend your money you ask for what you want you should get what you request. Not a real big fan of sunshine cafe. And I definitely do not recommend anyone coming here for meals. Even though the meals when they are properly repaired are pretty good it is completely offsetted by the horrible service provided. read more

Sunshine Cafe is a breakfast winner. Today I had the country fried steak and eggs with hash browns and biscuits. The biscuits were light and fluffy and delicious. The sausage gravy is the best. My son had bacon and eggs over easy and pancakes. Everything was hot and delicious. Out services was on it. She made sure we had everything we needed and that everything came out on time. She brought a little package of teddy grahams for my grandson to snack before the food came. I was in Muncie to visit family and decided to take my Dad out for breakfast. He loves going here. I didn't mind either as they have three or so pages of breakfast options. The prices are pretty reasonable and they also have smaller options if you aren't very hungry. I decided on the combo breakfast that let me choose a few of the options. I do love grits and they had this as a choice. Also biscuits instead of toast. I added scrambled eggs and a pork sausage patty. My eyes were bigger than my appetite but like man can food as I ate it everything tasted so good that I just had to try and eat most of it. I couldn't finish half of my last biscuit and a little of the grits. Everything tasted great. The grits were very good. Service was quick as well. It was a very busy Saturday morning and our food came out pretty quick. The Sunshine Cafe is a nice place to stop in for a traditional breakfast. It's an older facility. However it is clean and large so they move people along. The decor is dated. However the wait staff hustles and is as friendly as they can be handling a large number of customers in short order. My wife had the fresh fruit and omelette combo. She said that the fruit was the freshest she had tasted during and season time. She thought the omelette was good as well. I ordered the corned beef hash with two eggs and a side pancakes. The pancakes were excellent- light and fluffy. The butter and syrup just topped the cakes off to perfection. The eggs were cooked like I would expect - hard to mess up over easy eggs. I will admit the not Many people make corned beef hash taste good. I gambled and decided to give Sunshine a shot at it. The corned beef hash ended up being an over cooked patty of meat & potatoes. It didn't have much corned beef taste as the over grilling taste dominated the flavor. This isn't usual for most breakfast places though. I was on a business trip to Muncie and consulted Yelp for a place for breakfast. As usual, my fellow Yelpers steered me right. Upon arrival you'll be greeted by a bright sunshine yellow exterior, fitting of its name. As I walked in, I was greeted in less than a minute and seated in less than 3 mins! The menu has many great options for breakfast (and any time of day). It says they are open 24/7. I was greeted by the waitress promptly and had a cup of great coffee in hand shortly along with a carafe to refill whenever I needed! I ordered the "Western Boatload" pictured below. I wanted some good ol' fashioned breakfast food for lunch while in Muncie for work, so I relied on Yelp to direct me to Sunshine Cafe. I was greeted immediately and advised to sit anywhere I like. Despite the late lunch hour, there were still several diners. I sat in a booth and immediately noticed that the place was very clean. No excess of unbussed tables, counters all wiped off and the carpeted floors also appeared to be very clean as well. My waitress was very friendly and brought me my coffee while I perused the menu. I chose my favorite, a veggie omelette with grits and wheat toast. It arrived shortly and I dug in, not to be disappointed! The omelette was well cooked and full of tomatoes, mushrooms and onions. My grits were just the right consistency and included butter on the side. Toast was cooked/buttered just enough. It was such a reasonable portion that I took home half of the omelette for tomorrow's breakfast. I'll definitely come back again when in the area! read more

Back in my hometown visiting family and friends, and I just had to have breakfast here. I haven't been here since my undergrad years, we're talking 2006! The place hasn't changed a bit, but in the best way possible. Excellent and friendly service, with delicious home cooked food. When we arrived, the parking lot was packed; which usually means you can expect great food, but service might be slow. We were pleasantly surprised when our meal not only arrived in a more than timely fashion, the manager and staff went above and beyond the call of duty. It was a hot late summer morning and our order was to go because we had our pup inside the car with us. In AC with supervision before anyone freaks out. The manager was kind, friendly, and clearly cared not only about the service she provided for us but for our pup as well. Without having to ask, she packed us a travel container of fresh cool water and made sure our order was exactly as we had ordered it - everything to the side due to travel. She even was careful to make sure the order of sausage links for our dog were unseasoned. All that being said about the customer service though, the food was nothing short of phenomenal. Nothing was greasy, nothing was overcooked (or undercooked for that matter), the portions for the cost were exactly as they should be. I would recommend this place over and over again. My last review was a bit pessimistic. The food is not bad. The tenderloin is large and crispy but not dry. The omelets are my go-to as they're large and nice and buttery- a good complement to the hash browns. Service has always been friendly. Onion rings are also decent. I was in Muncie for 2 nights, and I ate at Sunshine 3 different times. Two times I dined in, and one time I carried out food. That should tell you how much I thought of this place. The staff was incredibly friendly, and one even complimented me on my cologne, which admittedly made me blush haha! Above all, the food was incredible, and the portions & choices were plentiful. I had full intentions on getting breakfast food, but the club sandwich/wrap with fries ended up being my favorite. And I don't know what they do with the ranch, but it was delicious. Used yelp to choose this place for breakfast. This was was a great recommendation from the yelp community for sure! As we pulled up on a Tuesday morning expecting to see an empty parking lot, to our surprise the parking lot was full. We expected to have a wait to be seated. However, entering the building, we were quickly seated and our order taken. My wife and I started with a pitcher of coffee. She is an avid Dunkin' Donuts lover and yet was pleased with the coffee. Win for me! I had the gravy and eggs platter. Gravy was delicious. Hashbrowns were good. My wife had the vegetable omelette. She was able to eat one or two bites which were very delicious. However the omelette the eggs were undercooked and were still runny so she was not able to finish it. The waitress did it right and did not charge us for the omelette. What kind of Indiana restaurant doesn't have sugar cream pie?? The pork tendersoin was great as was the gravy so I got fed and went to bed! I had a wonderful and helpful waitress also! Highly recommended if you want to avoid chains and need a friendly place with good food open late at night. If you're up late studying and you need some brain food, this place rocks 24/7. I've heard it also serves up a killer hangover remedy. The food isn't the best in the world, but it's a much better option than Bob Evans or IHOP. Plus, the service is super fast and it seems to always be quiet enough to hold a good conversation about current issues with a classmate or to take notes on that 6th chapter before your test the next day. I'm not sure if the Wifi is provided by Sunshine, but I do know you can access some free internet to work away while you're eating or waiting for that food. That said, I don't think I've ever gotten a waffle. The Patty Melt is great, as is the B&G, and if you're stupid and have a sense of humor, anything seafoody is a riot - I suggest the Shrimpin'. The coffee is bottomless. The waitresses are quite used to the late night parade of drunks, scumbags, and cops, but Sunshine is a neutral zone. As much as I lament the fall of Family Kitchen (Stars and Stripes, Omega, etc), Sunshine is a snug harbor for the nocturnal set. read more
