This was our first time in the keys (just about a week ago), and the experience blew me away. We had a waterfront site booked, and based on the front desk's recommendation, switched to a different waterfront site that was easier to back into (we have a 40' motorhome), which was appreciated. We were escorted to our site, and literally were parked steps from the water. We enjoyed hanging out in the water immediately, and also loved all the wildlife present everywhere on the campground, including an iguana who liked to bask in the tree right next to our RV, numerous pelicans and herons (or egrets? I never know the difference), schools of thousands of little fish, and more. I loved swimming in the area off the swimming dock. The water was cool and refreshing in the heat. Every day, I marveled at the beauty of this place. The clouds and sky looked like cotton candy at dusk. Sunsets were magical. Bahia Honda State Park is only 5 minutes away. I almost didn't go, because this campground was so nice, but fortunately, we went, and of course, that was breathtaking as well. We have starlink so I didn't have internet issues, and we didn't use the marina services, so can't speak to that. read more

I'm starting to have my doubts. I grew up vacationing here with my family back in the 80's. my wife started coming here about 5 years ago. We have a 2 week stay here scheduled for August when lobster season opens. I recently found out through a voicemail that the marina is closed for upgrades. I've been trying to call to find out if they will have boat parking. I've called the marina once and the front office twice and left voicemail messages. I've not received a call back. my other issue is that no-one told me the marina would be under construction before I paid over 4,000 dollars for my spot. read more

Me and my family, collectively, have stayed at Sunshine Key RV Resort for over 10 years and have thoroughly enjoyed ourselves on every visit. The most recent trip was last week, in Feb 2024. The RV sites are nice and relatively roomy for anywhere else in the Florida Keys. I love walking around the marina to see the boats and notable sea life. In the past two visits we spend a lot of time enjoying seeing the manatees, nurse sharks, tarpon, and sea horses on a near daily basis in the waters near Sunshine Key RV Resort. Not to mention are the various friendly iguanas and the countless family dogs we see being walked each day. Aside from that, they offer beautiful access to the nearby water and a long dock to fish or check out the sunrise/sunset, a natural combo offered free of charge twice-daily. The resort has a pop up market on Fridays where we have discovered amazing breads and our favorite, the pistachio butter (OMG) along with hot foods, produce, and fresh fish - whatever you want, plus sometime handmade jewelry and other crafts. Go check it out! They also have activities, games, happy hours, and other fun social events for individuals and families to add value to your stay. They are happy to sign you up for text alerts to keep you up to date on what's going on in/around the campground. The staff are friendly and text you with updates, notices, and fun activities offered throughout your stay. You can also text them with any questions or help you might need and you can expect a prompt response back in any case. The resort also offers campers and tiny houses to rent in case you don't have your own trailer or RV and as an added bonus they're situated right next to a gas station that tends to always have the lowest, or near lowest, price per gallon in the area and also sells delicious key lime pies that I recommend giving a try. I've been down to Sunshine Key at least 3x since 2016 and my family has spent MONTHS there camping in their RV over the years. This place has my full confidence, every time we come down, to giving us the best experience they can. They also offer a mail room for those of us who may be down there for 2-4-6-8 weeks at a time and may not only need USPS mail but also Amazon deliveries. They really do awesome with this by receiving your boxes and writing in large black Sharpie your last name where they set everything in a small side room off the office counter for people to pop in and grab their stuff without any issues or hassle. Location is great. The few people that want to work are great. No one answers the phone kind of pathetic. WiFi is a joke. You have to pay for dial up internet speeds. Tried different setups and all internet is horrible. For the price they should include WiFi. Marina is nice but no one answers the phone. It's a joke. We reserved an "elite waterfront" site, and paid handsomely for it, In my opinion. We were told that we couldn't pick a site when reserving, that sites are assigned when you get here. When we get here they put us in site 406, which is behind a mangrove. Yes, there's water out there, but we can't see it. (See photo) We can hear the highway great though. We called to see if we could get moved, noting that another site was empty in the "elite waterfront" level. Management says that site is for someone else coming in the same day as us. (I thought you couldn't reserve sites?). Well, they aren't here, we are, and management won't move us. As of day 2, that site is still empty. They said it's a computers fault. They condescendingly said we could just leave. After a while we just gave up. If we hadn't just driven one thousand miles to get here, we would leave. We spent our first day here trying to find similar availability nearby at other parks without any luck. My wife is beside herself and wants to just drive home. They offered us a discount, but the thing is we would never have even considered coming here without an ocean view...that's the whole reason we're here. Oh, there's no wi-fi at this site either and the cell service is sketchy at best. We called their wi-fi provider 4 times already, but still no help. This place is in a great spot and you must book a year ahead to get a spot on the water. It's very expensive like $300 a night . I've been here 3 times now and this time I was put in a smaller spot with neighbors trailer on top of us and storage trailer in the back blocking my view and encroaching more into my sight . Great facility! We spent a weekend here with friends and it was paradise. The RV resort is equipped with the best amenities -- private beach, lounge chairs, and the best bathrooms ever. Seriously, I was so impressed with how clean the bathrooms were at all times. The place is clean, and management is strict with visitors, which we loved as we felt very safe. We just left the campground... have to say it is not like it used to be. Starting with internet, there is none. They offer an outside service for a fee that does not work at all. They do have internet in the rec room.. but who wants to spend their day in there working. In todays world not having internet is not acceptable especially when paying a high price to stay. We spoke to some long term campers there and they agree.. she said she would have to be up before 5am or after 10 pm to work with the jabba service and it was awful not worth the charge. Water... horrible.. I understand the keys are under a low pressure order.. but that was ridiculous. We had to pour water in toilets to flush. We were camping at boyds the week before and the water pressure was so much better. Pool.. oh boy... it is like being on a cruise.. seat savers... if you are going to leave pool to go have lunch at your site.. take your crap.. ! Pool was always packed.. water cloudy and clumps of hair in water and on coping around pool. We watched a girl brush her hair in the pool. It was kinda nasty the water. One day the delayed pool opening for maintenance...probably a drain and scrub down. Lol. Pool closes at dusk.. crazy. Boyds pool was open until 11 pm. If you come home late.. you may have to wait. We did the one night we were out late, 10 pm. There was no one at the gate to let us in. Had to call to get someone there. Activities... we were there for 5 days.. just about every day we received a text that they had to cancel the activities. Not they we participate in them but canceling bingo at a campground could be devastating to some campers. They have a nice area with basketball, horseshoes and picnic tables.. but no shade in that area at all so pretty much unusable during the day. A place not to be at. Water shortage or no water at all. When there is water, no pressure and yellowing stains. Upon arrival I was escorted to my assigned space. Narrow streets in addition to vehicles, storage trailers and boats parked on each side allowing 1 to 2 inches on each side. The escort just waited seated on the golf card w/o assisting through my pass. Assigned spot, two electrical boxes with aluminum stairs and a transformer, do not complain, they act as they are giving you something for free. The element is not good. They clean their pots & pans on the side of the narro street's throwing the grease over the pebbles. Upon their daily fishing return, clean & through that really fragrant fish water over the pebbles. There is no garbage collection. The so called element, throw there garbage bags over the pebbles waiting till the end of the day to carry to the dumpsters located some distance. Pool is not an offered amenities. Closed from 6/30 to 7/6/2023. The so called game room, a mess, bathrooms, an outhouse is better. They cleaned on 7/8/23 because they were having a bingo game. The site is around 20/30 feet down if Overseas Highway. There is a cell tower, but you will not be able to raise a bar on your phone if you do not walk to the reception area. Wi-Fi is added within other RV sites, not here, you have to pay for it as well as electricity. Very high price dump, not recommended!!!! read more

I would recommend the elite spots or a regular spot - don't pay for the premium. The Premium is next to the water but there are heavy brush/trees completely blocking the view and leaving you to deal with the bugs! The park is very clean. Office staff is either 5-stars or 1-Star depending on who is there upon your arrival. My kids loved Gary that helped us find our space! Also - the location is not ideal - there are no restaurants close by, but there is lots to do if you're willing to drive 30-45 minutes then there's lots to do. read more

My husband and his friends love camping. In all the time we've been together I have never went on one of their camping adventures. You see, I am more of the hotel type person. But when our friends bought a beautiful new RV and invited us on their memorial day weekend vacation I decided to come along and see what the fuss was all about. Sunshine Key was sadly wiped away a few years ago after hurricane Irma. However they are re-built and back in action. My husband used to come here when he was a teenager with his family. He was very happy to see them up and running again. Their facilities are extremely clean. The showers and bathrooms were never too busy for being as crowded as the park was for the weekend. They got a spot right on the marina which we were able to see our boat floating in the water. This made it super convenient so we could check on it every so often. They have two fillet stations at either side of the marina. There are laundry facilities, a pool, tennis court, rec room, swimming hole, bike rentals,ice cream shop, gas station and private beach on property. Oh yea, and a dock that gives you a perfect sunset view. I'm probably missing some of their perks but please go onto their website to see more. They also have campers that are available to rent if you do not have your own. If you have a golf cart I recommend bringing it. Golf carts are a way of life down here! We had one and were able to zip around the park in no time. This is a nice location too. We were only a short drive away from Key West. There is tons of great fishing in the area (duh) and also a lot of little islands that you can go explore if you're feeling adventurous. You'll see a lot of creatures roaming about the marina. From baby barracuda to Tarpon and even a nurse shark. We all enjoyed sunshine very much. I have nothing to compare it against but my crew says this is top-of-the-line when it comes to RV parks. I believe them! They do have a lot of rules but I believe that is to keep the park running smoothly and make it enjoyable for EVERYONE. They are very upfront about everything though. Do not use the marina to rent anything. We rented a boat for the day, highest price btw, but for convenience we rented from the RV resort we were staying at. On the way back in to the marina after a long day we unfortunately got stuck on a sand bar because the tide was going out . The depth detector was glitching the whole time we were out that day so we we also having to. Is other means to try and navigate. We called the number we were giving if we have an issues and they said wait till the tide comes in or else it will cost you $2500 for us to come and get you out. That sounded absurd but we told them that we would wait for the tide to rise. After about 30 minutes a jet ski comes zooming towards us and it was someone from the marina coming to see if we could be pushed out. He tied his jet ski to the pontoon boat and we all got out and pushed . It did work. The guy that came to help us wasn't thinking about it being a pontoon boat and when he started moving the boat his jet ski went under the boat. Not our fault. We never touch that jet ski, we told them we would wait for high tide but at the time were grateful that he came to help us get released but when he got the jet ski out from under the boat apparently it had been damaged. Not our fault. We didn't tie the jet ski to the boat he did. We thought he knew what he was doing. My husband who was almost killed 8 months prior and is still in recovery was made to have to try and swim against the current and almost went under. I was terrified. The guy threw life vest out but it didn't get to him. I had to let go of him and struggle to get floating vest and get it to my husband and then try to get one on myself. The next day the prick owner called us and said it was all our fault and charged us $2000. He was a complete a hole and said everything was our fault . We didn't tie a jet ski to the boat and forget it was there. There are many other places to get boats and other water gear in the keys. Don't do it here. We had a premium breach front site and it was absolutely spectacular!! We kayaked around the island and it was beautiful! Managment displays racism towards hispanics and will pick on you and put false "violations" on the spot you are staying at so they can find and excuse to kick you out from the rv park! Colleen is a huge issue and a terrible assistant manager not only is she extremely rude but so is her husband who cursed at a family member the first day we were ever there for moving a rock on the location we were paying for. We made reservations in February to stay at your location. 7 months in advance, we even spoke to a person at your establishment gave the full run down of what our trailer is. And what happened when we got there? Your staff told us we were not allowed to stay there because we don't own an RV. We drove 4 hours to come to you. Paid in full before arrival. Yes you returned the money, but it takes days to be put back onto a card. What if that's all we had. And couldn't go anywhere else? The lady asked the desk where do you sleep? Seriously? I am so livid and disappointed in your audacity to treat people less than because they don't have a $50,000 rig or whatever RVs cost. And if our issue wasn't bad, the gentleman after us really had a F'd up situation with you. He flew in from Mexico full family in tow, rented 3 rv rigs to come to you, he paid up front and in full for 3 spots next to each other and you screwed him too. read more

Booked a week here, first time in the Keys and first time camping. Gosh, this place impressed me! The water access makes this place so convenient. The grounds are clean, quiet rules are enforced as well as the dog rules. One of my biggest apprehensions was bringing our dog and other people not following the rules. Not here!! Dogs on leashes, everyone picks up after their dog - such a relief! The marina area is cool for watching fish and seeing HUGE pelicans. It's really had not to fall in love with this place! My only gripe? Spotty WiFi, but that is very easily overlooked! We head home in two days and I'm already trying to savor every last moment here! read more

Sunshine Key RV park has a really great location. The Marina was beautiful. Upon entering the people at the reception were friendly. She gave us paperwork about the park and information on places to see and things to do. I was bouncing between giving a 4 star because of the following. We rented one of the trailers on the property. The toilet lines were not cleaned from the people before us , they gave me a number to call .... all the times the whole stay I tried to call they never answered I walked over to tell them. They cleaned it but the place smelled bad, I walked over again they sent someone to pour stuff in. Much better. They do not give you information on how to work things like the oven, lights on outside of trailer or awnings. They say there are towels and linens... make sure you bring your own. There was two small blankets and 4 towels. No mixing bowls and no cooking sheets to make our fish. The work out room is closed and the people at the pool put towels down on all the chairs so there are none available... we were there for 2 hours and no one used the chairs. It has changed for the worst post hurricane Irma (management) . current staff Starting with manager Glen and Assistant manager are very unprofessional very rude and even give off racist cues (assuming I speak Spanish because of my last name). I feel like the new management make what's supposed to be a relaxing time or a little get away from problems they seem to find ways to bother. I really wish corporate would train or bring in qualified managers who try to solve problems rather than threaten to blacklist them. Ok I had read the reviews before we booked and I'm glad we stayed here. There may be a difference between the summer and winter crowds though. We stayed here for New Years and extended our stay by 2 days. The staff is super helpful, the other rvers are all very nice, the bathrooms are clean, plenty of activities for the kids, they even have babysitting and dog walkers if needed. It's beautiful and would move here if I could. There was a now hiring sign out front and if we didn't have kids I'd have applied!!! Also rent a golf cart from aargh maintenance. Might seem lazy but you get to spend more time doing the things you enjoy by getting there faster. Super reasonable rates and great staff! read more

Stayed here with my family including 2 young children. Beach did not have a tiki hut that the internet claimed. The pool closed at dusk which was not advertised. The campground is full of Hispanics that blast music and have their teenagers run around on golf carts with no respect. They will drive in front of you as if they don't see you and do not respect any rules. Apparently the bath houses got vandalized from them and they closed them at 6pm which does not allow guests to use them. This is also not advertised but they sure do not discount your stay. In the pool, they are loud and take the whole pool deck. Some of them even wanted to walk through our site which was right by the marina. There were no activities the whole week we stayed. Office staff were friendly but the attendant at the gas station/ convenience store acted as if I was a bother to her and she hated her job. I would not recommend this campground to any of my family/friends. There needs to be more strict rules and guidelines in place. We left a day early because we couldn't handle the disrespect and "takeover" of the park. The office staff did not even ask us why we were leaving a day early just to have safe travels. read more

Beautiful campground, we were here in Mar. 2019 right after Hurricane Irma. The campground was beautiful, we stayed near the water but not in a water front site. The little private beach was very small but my kids enjoyed it anyway. The pool was nice. The kids were able to freely ride bike on the concrete roads. The most inconvenient is the way their sewage dump is set up. You have to have an extended hose in order to properly hook up. Also loses a star for how expensive it all is, even their little market was extremely overpriced. read more

wow what a hugh disappointment!!!!! i reserved a water front rv spot for $200/night. what i got was a middle of the park view of the bathrooms and garbage dumpster. trying to make the best of it but now i have to pay $7.00 a night for internet that keeps saying no slots available but my card was charged and i can not even get on. no cable hook up unless you brought your own cable to hook-up. never been to an rv park where you have to bring your own cable. the woman at the woman at the front desk was extremely rude!! when ask about my reservation for water front and that i advanced paid for the slot for 3 nights she laughed and said the keys are very expensive and $200/night will not get you water front! tried to use my antenna for tv but all channels are blocked you have to use their cable. you can not use your own hotspot because you can not get on. worst rv park ever!!!!!!!! read more

We are here visiting now and the park is less than half capacity. I took my grandkids to the pool and parked by the gate. A lady in a burgandy KIA proceeded to park BESIDE me and come into the pool area and ask me to move my car because it's in golf cart parking. I don't have a problem following rules but how about if your gonna ENFORCE THEM YOU OBIDE BY THEM and park in a designated area YOURSELF. I love how its convenient for staff to park in car in golf cart parking but NOT for paying GUEST! I WILL NOT BE BACK TO THIS PARK. That in my book is UNACCEPTABLE!!! read more

Worst customer experience ever!!! We were told we would get a site on the ocean (they even gave us the site number) and never told us the site was not garanteed by the phone when we reserved. When we arrived at the park, they gave us a site on the marina with no view at all. When asked to get another site, they did not offer anything similar to what we paid for and were garanteed over the phone. We asked if we could juste leave and get a refund as we were not getting what we paid for. 6 days later, no refund and nobody ever called me back.. If you want an oceafront site, don't go there, you are not sur to have one even if you pay big bucks for it... read more

Sunshine Key RV Resort is a beautiful location that offers access to everything the Keys has to offer. We were a little reluctant to book such a pricy reservation because it has a bad reputation. We were somewhat comforted by the fact that it was an Encore property and with the warning calls that we received before check in. The calls warned us about a high police presence. Awesome! They also informed us about security measures that only allow 6 people per site and wristbands were going to be distributed and checked for! Excellent! Finally some order. Upon arrival we were greeted and checked in by Yanic. She was a very pleasant and helpful person with a great disposition. The other ladies in guest services were quite frankly rude to each other and the guests. I should've left then. The escort that led us to our site took a little long to get to us, so we ventured out. When he caught up with us, he greeted us with "You're doing this the hard way!" He proceeded to show visible signs of frustration as my husband carefully maneuvered his way through the gentleman's commands. We should've left then! The ambiance of the campground is not typical of what I have grown to love about camping. It was very difficult to relax and unwind with all of the chaos going on. You could hear people revving jet ski engines on their site. Others were flushing out boat engines on their site as well. The common courtesies that I have begun to crave from this lifestyle were not evident at all. It's truly unfortunate! We were traveling with another party. We purposely booked sites that were across the street from the beach access. We weren't able to access the beach because the people on that site blocked it with a canvas roof that was bigger than a 10x20. To say that we were disappointed is an understatement. We are avid campers and would've definitely returned to this campground. After this experience, we will not return. I hope that these comments assist in fulfilling the potential that this campground has to offer. read more

Rented a waterfront lot for a week, which was thick sludge/seaweed/murky water but a pretty view. Weekends during the summer are a nightmare here! Seems the whole world from Miami comes down on weekends and there are golf carts, kids, loud music and crowds EVERYWHERE. The pool pictures online are so deceiving b/c this pool is SMALL and hot and crowded. It was closed 2 days out of our visit b/c it had to be emptied. Kids are supposed to be on 10pm curfew, which did not happen on weekends at all (up past 1 am or later) and golf carts supposed to stop at midnight, which never happened. Lights were shut off on us by kids while taking showers in bathhouse at midnight! And the noise - the loud carts, music and people until 2 am Thurs-Mon 2 weeks in a row was extremely frustrating and disappointing!! AND WIFI - don't even get me started. IT DOES NOT WORK OR EXIST! We spent hours on the phone with the carrier they use and it NEVER WORKED the ENTIRE WEEK, we hope we get our money back! This was another extremely disappointing part of our stay given that cell phones have spotty coverage at best. Food trucks were minimal and sporadic only on weekends, game room (only place with WIFI) closes at 7pm every night? Fast forward to a quiet Wed night when we were riding our rented golf cart (which took 2 days to get someone to call us back to even get it) and listening to music, no one around, lots of vacancies and we GOT PULLED over by security about our music???? I couldn't believe it after all the chaos we had put up with for 3-4 days over the weekends on each end of our stay. Incredible. And our music wasn't loud. Obviously the security during the week needs to work the weekends and do some real work instead of harassing us on our one drive around the park. We were told there was a fitness center only to find out it was under construction. Had I known this, we would have booked somewhere else. Then on our last day I was told i could not park my car across from my spot. Its reserved for golf cart. This is a gravel lot with no golf carts. For $1100 a week, I expected better. We stayed here in August for a ridiculously decent rate. Awesome location in the Keys, office staff very friendly. For the price, if you know what to expect, it may be a good fit- So that was the good stuff. I have never in my life seen a campground or campers like this. Total chaos. People sprawled into all sites, ( the first two they sent us to had people's cars, boats lawn chairs parked in them) , dog poop EVERYWHERE. The loudest club music ( past loud- onto distorted , mess) constantly. Rude ass people, a gazillion golf carts zooming around ( with portable blaring club music) all day, and all night. So basically this was full of trashy people. It really was. FULL of them. We stayed here merely as a place to dock while we did fun stuff in the keys. And that's the only way it would work for us. I slept fine because I blasted our loud a/c all night to drown out the noise. The bathrooms were not kept up well, and the pool was brimming with tons of lovely people. I felt uncomfortable leaving our camper unattended for the whole day and half the night. I didn't set up anything, and even pulled the step in while we were gone. One night I was walking back from the bathhouse and saw a golf cart full of teens peeking in our windows. Traveled from Ft Lauderdale to present my Thousand Trails membership at this park! The woman in the office had zero skills and it was totally irrelevant I was a member or not she had RULES which are BS. It wasn't like I was planning a picnic, I simply wanted to see the facility. When I decide to pay my next annual assessment I will be certain to remember the hateful encounter I had with this hateful woman. Ps: I raised my voice after you told your manager I was being rude on the phone that you saw rude! Regardless of your rule u failed to be polite! U should go home! The campground overall is great. My only complaint is they swapped our site from what we originally booked and told us oh well when we arrived. We drove across the country from Oregon through New England to Florida over the last three months and have never had this happen before. Their attitude was " oh well". Because of this and because of their attitude I would recommend elsewhere. Poor business read more
