2nd time...and I learn more each time. The park is in the middle of that most pristine yet harshest of places on earth. Yes the campfire is nice, the staff entertain... I even ran into "Rich", a guy I met the first time I had visited, but I digress... We flew down from DCA to YWE, 1st class r/t for 500/per, rented a POS Ford Mustang, and was in the rental Airstream RV within 3 hours. Pretty nifty eh? Anyway, it's worth the cost. There is a refreshingly clean and well operated Winn-Dixie "right around the corner" and Looe Key Diving is just down the road...as the pelican flys. There also exists a primal battle of epic scale concerning a proper Eggs Benedict Breakfast and I've narrowed it down to Mangroves Momma's or Galley Grill. I know I'm missing another local establishment and I wasn't been able to find them this time...again, I digress. Nature? Sure...the bridge catwalks that are within walking distance. Late at night...it's breathtaking. The Blue Hole is a 10 to 15 minutes drive if you enjoy the scenery and obey the local speed limits...but there are monsters living in there. If you feel like jumping out of a perfectly good Aircraft and plummeting towards the earth...the SkyDive Key West is right up the road. The people that work at the resort are genuine and caring. It must be the weather, but no job too hard for the staff and the feeling that everything is clean...really makes a difference for us. Well run. Laundry machines and a well stocked Market supports the community that comes out to stay with them. read more

Please beware of your property while staying at Big Pine Key Resort! Their staff hit our camper and they are refusing to repair it to pre damage condition. I have an incident report and multiple texts and emails with proof of the damage. They want to put a bandaid on the damage instead or replacing the damaged part, which will affect my ability to sell it. The owner, Bob, looked me in my face AND told me via text that he would do the right thing and that he understood why I want it repaired to pre damage condition. Now his "risk department" sends me an email stating they will put a visible bandaid on the damage or they will give me $500 to go away and that I must sign a waiver releasing them from liability if I want them to do anything. Great place to stay. Very friendly community and staff who work the grounds. There's a nice little gift shop and basic goods store right on the property which came in handy when we ran out of coffee creamer and paper towels. Be on the lookout for the key deer. They are adorable! This place is a must stay if your In keys. We also loved being centrally located in the middle of the keys. We hauled our motorcycles and we're able to jet around to key west, and then back up to ilamorada. Which was nice! we'll be back here again. read more

The best way to describe this place is a "hidden treasure". Since there are few pictures online, I wasn't sure what to expect. The premise is right on the water with a variety of lodging options, including hotel rooms, RV space, and even good old fashion camping! We chose the hotel room. The rooms are very clean and well decorated. We booked a regular room without kitchen and it still had a small sink, coffee pot, microwave, moderate sized fridge, and even some bowels, coffee mugs, and utensils. Best part by far was waking out our back door to a large covered patio with a picnic table overlooking the marina and beautiful Big Pine Key. Also only a short drive to other keys like Key West and plenty of near by restaraunts. Only down side are the beds. I found them very hard and uncomfortable. Otherwise... AWESOME quaint place to stay! Highly recommended! read more

Beware of this campground. We are currently staying here and it's been an absolute train wreck. Upon arrival, the staff insisted on maneuvering our camper into our site with their front loader. The manager, Mike, watched his staff member jackknife and damage (bend) the towing arms on our camper. Mike wasn't even going to address it. He left our campsite and tried to brush it under the rug. I went up to the office on day 2 of our stay and confronted him. Before I could even speak, he threw his arms in the air and said "go ahead and lay it all on me, I know that's what you're here to do." I asked him why he has ignored the the issue and he said "I've been very busy I was planning on writing my incident reports today." I asked him what he's going to do to rectify the problem and he chuckled and said "that's a problem, this is the keys." I scolded him for having a "don't give a damn" attitude with us and trying to brush what the resort has done to us under the rug. I asked for his Managers name and number. He said his name is Bob and that he would get me his number along with an incident report. I also demanded that our camper be inspected for safety by an RV repair company before we drive it back to ocala. It was clear by Mike's lack of empathy and his smirking, throwing his hands in the air, and chuckling, the whole time I was speaking to him that he has ZERO concern for my family's safety or our experience at Big Pine Key Resort. We've had many other issues (a large majority of the park has) and one major is their jimmy rigged electrical work that is causing constant power outages. These power outages are putting guests at risk of losing their food and even worst, their pets lives. Again management takes no responsibility and has no empathy for the guests. They are sending out text messages telling guest they should unplug their fans, refrigerators, air conditioners or they should leave. See attached pics and text screen shots. It's my understanding from many of the long time guests that this property is under new management/ownership and it's been awful ever since they took over. I'm still willing to take this review down if and when management addresses and rectifies our issues and concerns. read more

Advice! Stay at The Jolly Roger resort!! Just in Marathon and half the price for much better service,amenities and closer to amazing restaurants. My issue with this resort is the rude and uncaring attitude from office staff. You have to pay for WiFi which I have absolutely no problem with but was never able to sign on.. I went to the office for advice and Kelly's tone was uncaring and unhelpful..we use a third party system for it can drop in and out! What the $&@"! So this establishment uses this for clientele and it's ok if it doesn't work? EVERY other resort provides free WiFi and I can't even pay to get it here... um hell no way ..the pool isn't even cool and for food the gas station is next lot over! Don't come here your money and vacay will be much better spent elsewhere! Believe me when I say I am the most easy going person but this was beyond a total disappointment.. only plus is I meet so many new nice people read more

Other reviewers have hit it spot on! Stay elsewhere! Terribly rude staff. We pulled in a half hour early and they were extraordinarily unwelcoming. They sent us down a short dead-end (with the toad connected) to a spot where we couldn't turn around. All this mess because they said we weren't allowed to wait out front. Actually yelled, "you're too early" when we tried to check in. Told us we'd need to pay extra to get onto our (empty) site early by 10 minutes, at this point. When I asked to speak with another staff member who was nice, the manager said, "We don't get paid to be nice". Well, guess what, without tourists coming to stay at your resort, your job will go the way of all the other failed keys businesses. Lack of amenities, rude staff, mandatory wrist bands must be worn 24/7 (for WHAAT?), and everything floods saltwater at high tide or a short rain. Yuck. So many better places to stay in the keys...don't waste your money here! read more

We absolutely Love this place and go there as often as we can. Great fishing, Great people & pool. Great Ships store. We can't wait to go back. It's only 35 miles to Key West from our room at the lodge. They have a nice boat ramp ( Load on high Tides) and Tarpon all over the area near this place. This place is the best get away to visit in the Keys they have a great campground and full amenities. They have rooms that are very comfortable . They use to have more rooms and also mobile homes to rent before Hurricane Irma but they have rebounded nicely. They also have boat rentals available through Maya that has been there for many years. And if you like nature they have the key deer roaming through the camp ground also, just a nice place to relax and forget about all the stress . read more

Very unprofessional owner. He decided that we could take our business elsewhere. We had been buying bait and gas and beer and ice at his marina four days in a row. we put our boat away for a northeaster and returned to launch. We had bought beer and ice and he told us we could not launch our boat unless we where staying in the campground. We explained to him that we had been spending money at his marina and where not going to leave our truck and trailer on his property. His quote was take our GD business elsewhere. Big Pine Key Fishing Lodge is the place! I use to visit in the 90's and has everything you could wish for. Rough Camping, can have your Trailor Stored and brought out when you visit, old charming Motel Rooms, Newer Rooms that added a Pool. Had Trailers/Mobile Homes. Awesome Sunday's and Mother was ranked 5 th in Olympic's for shooting moving to different targets to hit. She will kill me for not remembering. I'm gonna give it one star because I haven't stayed there but the welcome we received when we wanted to look around the campground was not good to say the least. They refuse to let us drive around the campground , It's a big campground with potholes everywhere and it was wet but they wouldn't let us drive the car around so we can look at it quickly to see the sites to see where we want to stay. If they are so adamant about people not driving through you would think they would have a golf cart to drive you around so you can look and see if you're interested in staying there, that would've been the right thing to do instead they had us walk around this huge campground so a quarter away in we said forget it and left. read more

I have been RVing for years, and had been trying to get into this particular campground for a while, because I had heard about how difficult it was. We called 11 months in advance and got the last spot. About 5 months later, we receive an email that the rates had changed, effective Dec 2018, so our balance due had gone up, as did our deposit. I called, thinking surely this was an error. When you book a hotel or a campsite, you get the rate you booked. That is the whole point of a confirmation/reservation. They said that they had fine print on their website that said "Rates subject to change" and that everyone who is staying past December would be contacted and would have to pay the new rates or cancel. This is beyond me. We cancelled. I don't care how full you get as a campground, to change the rates of guests who booked months prior is unacceptable, and tells me a lot about the kind of business you run. read more

Lovely place to spend a week. We usually get a site by the water, which is a nice because it's quiet, the wind keeps things cooler at night. There isn't a more affordable place in the keys, and if you stay 7 days or longer, they knock 10% off the rate for the week. Which is nice, since the state tax for accommodations is 12%. They have rustic sites, powered camp sites, RV sites, as well as rooms and trailers for rent too. You can check out their rates online at www.bpkfl.com Tourist beware: don't forget to bring bug spray, because the no-see-ums are a terror if you're not protected, and if you're a northerner - don't use anything less than SPF 85. Don't worry, you'll still get a fabulous tan! They have free wifi on site, and a resort store - that's really affordable. They also let you charge items to your site, so you can pay for everything at the end of your stay. The Winn-Dixie is only about 5 minutes away, and there is plenty of access to liquor stores, beer distributors and ice. Just remember when you're travelling the island by car, be sure to stay below the speed limit - the key deer are not only adorable, but also endangered. It's important to remember not to feed them, and you'd be even more bummed out if you hit one with your car. You might even go to jail! Please, please, please, PLEASE....DON'T FEED THE KEY DEER! read more

A weeks time was spent at the camp ground. We went the rustic route, no power, no wi fi out there, no water, but....on the water with a great view. We were literally feet from the water. The place is well run, check in was easy, and efficient. The drive to the back takes you past room rentals, assorted RVs, docks and then ya see the view. Beautiful. The camp site was clean, plenty of room for 2 tents as advertised. The ground was raked prior to our arrival. Tree coverage is limited, no hammock on this trip. Natural shade was limited to a single tree, kinda on an adjoining site. Two picnic tables were on the site. Great set up. The weekdays were quite nice, all the campers were friendly and quite. Respectful of the 11 pm quite time. The bathrooms were immaculate too. Then came the weekend. The place was packed. Lots of bike riders coming by checking out the place, fish cleaning station was busy, and quite time....ummm...someone yelled about calling the cops and they got quite at 0130. When you see 8 blow up mattresses going in the tenement tent.. party time is coming. No fault of the camp ground. I found out they have staff on site to handle such issues after the fact. I'm not sure about parking, we had 2 cars, the tenement had about 6. The bathroom got a little busy, as expected with the big crowd. The pool too, but the drink specials made it ok. $2 beer, $2 wine, $5 assorted frozen... The girls in the office were great. Get ya checked out fast. The office/store offers lots of stuff for sale, yummy canned meat is just one thing. Lol. I do have to say the chain thing gets old, it's like hitting the lottery when someone is in front and behind you. Sweet! It works though, and it beats fixing broken wooden gates. I'll be back...what a nice find. read more

We have been staying at Big Pine Key Fishing Lodge (notice the recent name change above to "Resort") every year for 23 years, most recently in June 2021......and there are many, many others who have been staying for 30, 40, 50 years and raised kids and grandchildren going to BPKFL. It was owned by a wonderful family for over 50 years and before this year would have gotten 10 stars if we could have given it. This is NO LONGER A PLACE I WOULD TELL ANYONE TO GO TO. It was bought by COVE Resorts and is nothing like past positive reviews. You can not depend on reservations being honored, arbitrary price changes, the grounds look like a tired old trailer park, bathrooms may or may not be clean, boat docking or access unreliable, store hours are inconsistent, I could go on. All this while increasing prices for everything to "Resort" levels. Do not go here if you expect any of the qualities of a family friendly, fishing village, friendly and competent staff atmosphere expressed in past reviews. read more

Wonderful place to camp! Got a site on the water. Great price. The bath house and showers look brand new. Staff is friendly. The connivence store has everything from wine to camping gear. Free wifi, is always great. Heated rooftop pool, playground, hiking trails, rec room with pool table, ping pong, and charging stations. Can't bring your pets because of the key deer, but they are super friendly. I would recommend this place to anyone looking to camp with or with out a boat, kids or even an RV! read more
