So I came back in hopes of turning my 3 star review to a 5 star review because their owner Vicky reached out to me. I won't say this salon is terrible, but again I am particular about my French and I will not be returning. I appreciated Vicky for reaching out, she offered me what I had thought was going to be a makeup of my last pedicure for it's entirety. Mind you i come from this industry and when I try to make something right I will give the compliments of the same amount in courtesy from what you paid me for. When I sat down and showed Hana, who Vicky recommended she nodded and said ok, she went to show Vicky the picture comes back and says I will be charged an additional $50... because the complimentary service was "only for the pedicure..." at this point I am just annoyed all over again. I tried to just tell myself let's see how today's service goes and base it off that. It was the day right before my birthday so I was like whatever...Mind you I came with the mindset my $86 with all of what I got last time would be taken into consideration. I did not care to pay more for the new designs I was asking for. But here goes the list of additional they decided to charge me for. Acrylics for my big toes, French, and designs. On to the service, Hana was sweet, soft spoken and definitely particular in her craft. Good, but I did not want to be at the nail salon for a pedicure for almost 2 1/2 hours. I explained to her I like my nails super short or as short as she can get them and that i like my French thick so they are noticeable. I don't understand what it is about cuticles and nail walls that they seem to not remember humans have. I was knicked and drilled with their bits over and over...it freaking hurts. Like they should go back to practicing on an orange. Otherwise Hana was 8/10 for the pedicure service. Finally after an hour of just basic pedicure, we were at painting and designs. I wanted a beige nude for my base and again a THICKER french that at least matched one another. Both sides did not mimic the other. And I hate when my second toe is not seen because it curves. In that case the tech should the line far more thicker so it's seen. We were already almost 2 hours in and I had to get to another appointment and then my birthday dinner reservation. So I just wanted her to get to the designs. When she started the designs, the flowers I showed her were WHITE and noticeable meaning when you pick the white acrylic up it should be a bigger dot to show on top of the beige. My flowers blended right in and I could barely see them. I kept telling her can we make it whiter or petals bigger. She just insisted on adding acrylic color to it. She tried red then pink and it just looked awful. I told her I did not like it and she used acetone to take it off.. it of course still lingered and did not come off all the way. I just old her please just add more white. She seemed scared of how to do it and barely even made a difference... I paid for this so why am I not receiving what I ask for? If it can't be done just tell me and I can opt for something less technical... Sigh...her massage was 10/10 though. So I guess if you have thick cuticles and have less sensitive feet you can go there. 2 techs less than 2 months apart where I bled after I left and got scabbed? I am good. The amount of talent at Sunshine Nails is unbelievable! I've had the pleasure of getting Gel X and builder gel sets from Keiu, Vicky, and Jojo and I've loved it everytime. And the best part is that my nails last nearly 4 weeks!! 5 stars for the talent, quality of service, convenience, and customer service. I got my nails done for $115 I am extremely pleased with the result and I would go back again. The area and the tools were a little dirty but it was not that bad. I wanted to share some concerns because I value good service and have tried to be a loyal customer. This is now the third time I've left the salon feeling dissatisfied. Ever since the young lady who had a baby left, I haven't had a consistent experience. One time I let it be known my nails needing correction, I came in and had to pay to have the situation fixed. During another visit, the rep who was servicing me seemed rushed, and three nails were smudged and had to be fixed by someone else. Today, Wednesday, November 26, 2025, I had an 8:30 AM appointment, the young lady called out sick again (I was informed by the supervisor) , and I wasn't seen until 8:55. I was passed between three different technicians, including one who didn't know how to apply nail polish. I was even placed under a gel dryer, not a dryer for non-gel polish and I was under the dryers for 10 minutes and the polish didn't dry and finally one of the reps sitting there said "That's for gel polish it has no heat for regular polish." I can't use gel products due to my cancer history. As I left out I turned back and another rep had to remove the nail polish and I left with my nails unfinished and even paid. No attention from the supervisor who continued to assist her customer and I felt I did not matter, but my dollars did. In the end, nothing was completed, and I left disappointed. I'm sharing this because I hope for a more consistent experience going forward. read more

Recently visited Sunshine nails after my regular nail tech was on leave and I was in need of a retouch on my SNS dip nails. I really appreciated the ability to book my appointment online and choose a technician. It was my first time visiting the shop, so someone did call to confirm, however I was lucky enough to snag a same day appointment at 5:15. I arrived around 5:09 pm and the receptionist told me the wait would be about 10 minutes and to go wash my hands (I do appreciate requiring clients to wash their hands!). In reality, my technician didn't get to me until after 6 pm as he was just starting a complicated design on another client. They did have someone come over and start the removal of my current dip (soak and file), so at the very least I was receiving some sort of service. Tony did an excellent job on my ombre nails, something I had been wanting to try for a while. So if this is based on nails alone, I'd give them 4 stars. When I got home I still had to do some additional shaping but they came out how I wanted them. The customer service however was sub par at best. Tony didn't really take the time to even speak to me before, during or after the appointment outside of ringing me up. As a first time client I would've appreciated some sort of communication, even if just a "thanks for waiting" since he didn't get to me until almost an hour after my scheduled time. So customer service definitely is closer to a 3. Also, online dip ombre nails are listed as $65 but they charged me $70 with no explanation. I don't appreciate those sorts of business practices. So, minus 1 star for the price difference, and an additional star for the lack of customer service. However, again, my nails did come out nice so that ultimately is what's important! Literally my favorite salon in this area. I go to Sue for my pedicures and she always takes her time and is very personable. When I first started coming I had a few different people do my nails and they all do great but I have fallen in love with Vicky and I won't be going to anyone else going forward. If you bring a picture she can replicate it and if you want a freestyle design she's also able to do great with that as well. Disappointment is an understatement. I've been going to sunshine nails on and off for 5 years + and the loyalty and appreciation Vicky (the owner) has for clients OTHER than her OWN is terrible. I got a gel x set done Monday and I called them Thursday to let them know that one of my nails popped off, and that the gel was peeling. They asked if I was able to come in right then and there but I was at work I cant just leave to repair a nail that shouldn't have popped off three days later in the first place! I explained I could be there first thing in the morning on Friday, and they reassured me It would be free of charge since I had been in early that week. Long story short I was still charged for the nail repair because they said there was a three day policy (mind you I called Thursday about my nail) I just wasn't able to drop what I was doing and run over there when they wanted me to. It was an inconvenience, as if driving and finding time in my schedule to go fix something they messed up wasn't enough, lol. They don't know how to treat customers unless you're one of Vicky's "OG" clients who's spending 300+ on nails. SIDE NOTE: These are the nails I asked for and this is what I got. Funny enough I was referred to Kieu by a colleague-- her work was amazing. I booked for Saturday 3pm. The receptionist called and mentioned she got a cancellation. I told them I am in Fairfax so it would take about 40 minutes so I'd be there around 2:30 at the earliest. She said that's fine, anytime before your appointment would work! So I got there at 2:43pm and after settling in off rip she said we will no be able to do the designs. She said her time slots are only 1hr 15 min and she has another client in a hour. since I was 15 minutes late and I clarified you all requested me to move my set appointment for 3pm up to accommodate you. I told her it would take me 40 minutes (Coming from Fairfax). There was no consideration or professionalism, just dismissal. Mind you this is my first impression of Kieu. The excitement has vanish from this interaction, sunshine nails this should have been handled way better. read more

The nail tech would not listen, packed on tons of acrylic, forced file thin shape, and didn't asked me personally about my nails. + instead of fixing they will apply a lot more acrylic. I followed my nail tech of many years here.... and they do not disappoint! My nail tech is "Jay", she is a beast at recreating anything you show her! Jay also can freestyle which always is amazing...I get Gel X nails every 3 weeks and it lastsssss. Jay's work is top tier! I use "Hanna & Liz" for my pedicures. Both techs take their time with you and you will leave with well groomed feet! My feet are done for a full month, and that's big for me! The atmosphere is very calm/relaxing, and the music is always on point! Check them out!! read more

Sunshine nails is overpriced and has an owner that does not Value her customer. My experience was horrible. They assigned two techs to try to do a pedicure on my feet and neither of them were good. when I got up to complain to the owner my experience. She told me "she will not get anyone else to do my feet and that they don't want my money and I couldn't get a pedicure" Very rude, & unprofessional. We proceeded to go back and forth with each other until I just left. I'm asking my African American sisters to boycott this place and don't patronize this business. The owner doesn't care about her AA customers, when we're the majority that's keeping her business open and running. I ask that you share this message and spread the word to as many people as you can to stop patronizing businesses that don't value and respect us as paying customers. This is 2025 it's a shame that we're still fighting for equality. If the employees and owner spend less time playing outside or in a back room getting her hair curl and spend more time perfecting their craft than they may be a better shop. read more

Checked this place out at a friend's recommendation. Everyone was nice enough, but I wasn't super impressed with the service of the actual pedi and mani. Here's why: I had a picture of the design I wanted on my nails, but they wanted to do the pedi first. That's fine but I like my toes to match my nails so wanted to confirm they could do the mani design in order to pick a color for my toes. They looked at the picture of the design and said no problem. Guess what, when it came time to do my mani they didn't have the right supplies. So we went with a different design and now my toes don't match my nails and I'll have to change the polish myself. I'm extremely annoyed at this and gave them this feedback as I was leaving. My other issue is the amount of drilling that was done to remove the polish and smooth the nails. I'm really concerned at the condition of my nails under the acrylic. Also, the tip John replaced is sticking straight out instead of curved as most tips do. Tony ended up doing my mani and when I asked him about this, he said the curve comes when he adds the acrylic. Now I've been to enough nail salons to know that isn't right. So I was annoyed at that. Lastly, I got an acrylic fill and it's extremely thick. It's pretty, but way too thick. The price for a regular pedi was $30, and acrylic fill with design was $57. This is the right price range, but I'm way too particular about my nails to return. read more

I give this place two stars just because I'm really happy with the gel pedicure. I love how my toenails look like. What I'm not happy with and I am super disappointed is my finger nails. I usually go to my fav salon in DC, but I couldn't make it to DC this time, so I've decided to try Sunshine nails and get refill there. That was the biggest mistake. I've tried to explain what I don't like about the nails, but the lady couldn't/didn't want to fix it. I wanted refill and my middle fingers had nothing on it since I broke my nails before. At the end I told lady that the C curve on middle fingers look completely different and the nail color is transparent comparing to other fingers. She tried different color then it also didn't work. She told me they don't have pink powder like I did have on other nails, so it's going to be transparent. She didn't inform me about it before and I told her I want all my nails the same color. I just gave up at this point and told her that I guess we can't do anything and I just wanted to be done with it. I don't go to the nail salon to leave unhappy and I don't remember last time I got my nails done that badly. You probably can't see it from far away but I pay attention to the detail. You wash your hands after check in, the station is disinfected, and if you have an appointment you're seated quickly. I don't need to speak to the design work because the website and social tell all. Before I dive into this review let me make it simple for those who would like the spark notes version. The nail salon is clean, majority of the staff are friendly, and like any salon, there are top notch nail techs who do great quality designs and others who can do the basics. The issues I've faced at this location is regarding customer service. On three different occasions I've spoke to the team about issues and in every instance the manager comes to "discuss," a better word would be acknowledge the issue but does not solve the issue on site in a manner that truly helps the customer. Example 1: Nail tech painted nails a color customer didn't request. Spoke to manager she apologized but didn't handle the issue by discounting the bill or providing another viable solution. Example 2: Nail salon assigned me to new tech and within less than a week four of five nails broke. When contacted I was told it will be taken care of upon my return. Instead I was charged $5 per nail to fix. Example 3: Called three weeks in advance to book a nail extension and pedicure appointment. Called numerous times to confirm and speak with front desk. No where in any of the conversations did their team mention the price and new policy for pedicures. While doing my feet was when I was informed of the pedicure policy, which by the way was not posted on their website. The website showed the original prices and had no description of the new policy, which is that the salon no longer does pedicures with regular polish, gel polish only that costs you $55. Image the surprise on my face. Once again manager spoke to me I showed her the website, she acknowledged the mishap on the site but rather than finding a viable way to provide great customer service, she instead said they had a sign posted in the front of the store and the front desk clerk said "we have it posted on Instagram." Now ladies, as a customer you can understand the issue here. Number one not everyone has Instagram and number two once again the team missed the opportunity to provide great service. I've recommended numerous people to this nail salon and I'm so disappointed in the customer service aspect. If going, I recommend you ask about pricing in every occasion and know you go to this salon to get your nails done not the service. read more

I'm disgusted by the service, if that's what you call it that I received today. My tech was John and I was told he is 1 of the acrylic structure specialist, since I don't use press tip. Here's a list of all the red flags: i have been getting my nails done for YEARS and I pay big bucks (my nail tech on maternity leave) 1 I sat in the chair with no conversation of length or shape change, or get an idea what I want. 2. When he drilled my nails he didn't drill/file the tan acrylic. He stated it would be considered full set. Which was weird 3. He Didn't use no tools such as cuticle cuter to cut my cuticles or the edges. 4. He applied same color as previously came in with. Come on, clearly there fall colors were in Dec. 5. horrible and sloppy job buffing and filling the nails. You know you got a good file when you can scratch your back and feels good. Nope nails felt dull like they been on for months 6 he really tried to put on a top clear coat with the same color I came in with. I stopped him and asked him what was he doing. He state oh I thought you said you wanted the same color.....NO SIR its Christmas so I need Christmas colors. All in all this appointment was rushed and waste of my time exactly 1 hour and money. When I get my nails done its usually for 2 to 3 hours weather it's full set or refill. Im never ever coming here again. If you want quick straight out nail school, this your place. read more

I am a nail salon snob. I have probably been to every nail salon in Fairfax county worth trying over the last 15 years lol. This is by far the best regarding efficiency and talent. I have sent a couple friends here and they have all remained faithful patrons. PROS - Most nail techs are extremely talented. Vicki, Kathy and Kristina to name a few! Your nails last, they will not lift, paint will not chip and the pricing is reasonable. Kristina is my favorite tech. She finishes me in an hour or less and never disappoints. I never have to wait when I arrive and if anything changes regarding my appointment she communicates via text. I have never ever had an issue with her or her product. CONS - super busy, you have to schedule a month plus some in advance to get an appointment with an good nail tech. It is not a spa experience, the salon is tight and parking is limited. If you are looking for a relaxing experience this is prob not the place for you. read more

I have been going to Sunshine nails for years and they are fabulous. I started with Ciera, who moved sadly, but was exceptional. When she moved, I went to Amy, who is great, if not better than Ciera. Both are excellent nail techs. Today, I could not go to Amy, as she was busy with another client, so I went to a new gal, Lily. She rushed me, was rude, snobby, and made me feel very anxious and rushed. Every time I asked if I could "have a nail sharper" or "can I try this color instead," she huffed and puffed and made it seem as a chore rather than her job that she loved. I am giving sunshine nails 4 stars because they are great, but for her, I give 0 stars and do not recommend you go to her. No one should feel as I felt today, coming out of what was supposed to be a relaxing getaway from life, to rather coming out sobbing. Take my advice, DO NOT go to Lily. read more

I am giving them 3 stars only bc they are not upfront about pricing. I booked a fill for $35 yet somehow at the end they end up charging me for way more! A cut down, sparkles and matte apparently cost $30 more. I didn't even get any crystals!!!! My nails grew out maybe maybe 5cm at most so if that's a cut down from already short nails I'll just file them before I go. My suggestion is to show your tech what you want and be sure to ALWAYS ask how much up front so you are not shocked at the end like I was! Since there were soo many great reviews I was very excited to get my nails done at this salon. I made an appointment online for an SNS fill on a Wednesday. I arrived early but to my surprise I had to wait 25 minutes before even getting seated with my nail tech. Once I got seated with my tech she was very friendly, gentle and was nice to talk with (hence my two stars). I thought she was doing a good job until she used regular gel polish to seal my nails and I had to use the UV light to seal them. I thought it was strange since I have been getting SNS manicures for about 3 months and the other salons did not do that. Fast forward four days and my nail already chipped. So I called and asked if they would fix it, and they agreed. Its important to note that I have never had an SNS mani chip! They always last for three weeks. So I arrive at the time that we agreed on Monday and to fix the ONE nail I had to wait another 30 mins - so I left because I don't have all day to sit in this place. If we agree on a time or I make an appointment I should never have to wait a whole 30 mins to be seen. Also at the one week mark the polish is already lifting.
