I remember I used to come to this spot when I was younger so I wanted to try their Ital Stew (vegan). When I arrived I found parking nearby. I walked in to asked if they took credit card and the lady said yes. I ordered the ital stew, rice and peas, kale and fried dumpling. I also ordered a pink Ting and water and it came to a little over $12. When I got home I dug in and I liked the fried dumpling. East Orange is a food dessert where I can rarely find something that isn't fast food or a chicken shack. Sunsplash is my go-to spot for a bite when I'm in the area! I like that you can go light or heavy here with their food items. I always get the "beet street" from the smoothie/juice bar and a veggie or spinach patty. Filling and under $10. I also like the hot food when I'm craving some Caribbean food. Good selection, fast, and the prices are reasonable (even for the oxtail). The people are nice and it seems family owned and operated. Just had a fantastic lunch from here. The food is in serving trays behind the counter, and I didn't see any menus, so I was unsure what I was getting. I saw what looked like a fish stew and asked what it was. It was ackee with saltfish and in a second tray next to it ackee with (non-salt) fish, as it was explained to me. I got a little of both, with the beans and rice and the kale. It was excellent! Everything was full of flavor and texture. Both the crunchy vegetables in the ackee stew and the kale went great with the creamy texture of ackee and fish. Topped it off with a few delicious sweet plantains.
