THEY STOLE MY CLOTHES! I booked this property when I FINALLY got to visit LA again for New Orleans. It was about a 45-minute drive over Lake Ponchartrain to the city, but it was so beautiful driving over all that water that I never minded. When I read some of the reviews for this property, I got worried. But once I arrived, I had only one slight problem. I will get into that and the attributes of the room below. When I checked out, I went over the room, but the bar where one hangs their clothes is hidden by the bathroom door when it is open, which is most of the time. I missed that spot, yes, that is my fault. But, once I got home and was able to unpack, which took a couple of days because I had to go to work the day after I came back from a two-day drive, it was glaringly obvious that two items were missing. One was a brand-new shirt that said "Mardi Gras Drinking Team" and the other was a voodoo doll costume, very expensive costume. I called the hotel and they told me no one reported finding either. I was livid, though, I didn't go off on the girl because it wasn't her fault as far as I know. She said she would check the laundry and told me to call back the next day. What? You take my things and I have to call YOU back? Well, of course I called back the next day and they hadn't seen it. Believe me, that costume was impossible to miss. It was brown with a frilly red tutu...it's not like you're going to get it mixed up in the laundry items which are pretty much white. So, basically, they stole my clothes and didn't even seem bothered by it. It was pretty much a: Sorry I can't help you. Let me tell you, if it was my hotel, I would be questioning my staff. You know who was on the schedule that day. You know who cleaned that room. And the worst part? I left them a tip. I left housekeeping a TIP to STEAL clothes from me. The other sad part is that during my week long stay here, I was very happy. I was shocked by the other one star reviews. My room was clean and very large. I even had an item shipped to me while I was down there because it was shoes to match my voodoo doll costume, but I only found them the day before I left for my trip. I even forgot I'd done that because I was so tired the first few days. But the owner actually found my package and gave it to me. He was so nice and we talked about his riding on floats and being a member of a Krewe and the cost of the throws, etc. I had been given an accessible room, and I have no problem with that. I have damaged joints from RA, so being on the first floor and having those extras helps. And like I said the room was spotless. The bathroom was huge. The bed was a bit too hard for my taste and hurt my hip a bit but it wasn't the worst I've slept in. The parking lot was well-lit. I know some people complained about feeling unsafe or seeing homeless people or something but I think a lot of people want a luxury hotel when they book a motel. I did not expect luxury, but what I paid for and thought I got that. No one ever bothered me when I came in late from Mardi Gras festivities. The room was clean and had good tv channels, a fridge and a microwave. The only other problem I had was at check-in. There was this girl on her phone the ENTIRE time. And I could tell it was a personal call. I'd driven two days from Ontario, was dead tired and just wanted a smile, a small smidge of friendliness since I was spending my money at a hotel for an entire week. You know, I was a customer. She barely looked at me. Got my name (so surprised because she never put the phone down) filled out this little card and shoved it through a window for me to sign. She never even said hello or thank you. I have to say it made me feel insignificant and I didn't like it. She was outright rude. The room made up for it and the stay...and I had it firm in my mind to stay there next Mardi Gras, but let me just say this. I will not stay at a hotel where the STAFF STEALS FROM ME AND NO ONE CARES, APOLOGIZES OR DOES ANYTHING AT ALL ABOUT IT!!! If I'd lived anywhere close to there, I would've called the police.

Great hotel, room was clean. Got a good nights rest and a decent breakfast. They have a parrot inside the lobby which was some fun entertainment. Great place for the price.

The happy customers!!!!

Husband stayed last night and came home eaten alive by bedbugs. He said the stay was okay otherwise, but that's a deal breaker.

Southern Hotel - Another stay and gorgeous room..

I would not recommend staying at this hotel…read more Upon arrival, the front desk attendant was repeatedly hacking and coughing and appeared visibly ill. It was not the first impression I expected when checking into a hotel. Unfortunately, the room itself was also disappointing. The carpet was dirty, there was an old cough drop and a granola bar underneath the bed, and the air vent blew dust into the room when it turned on. These issues made me question how thoroughly the room had been cleaned before our stay. To make matters worse, there was a wedding taking place at the hotel, and the reception appeared to be directly outside our room. The music was extremely loud and continued until around 9:30 p.m. Traveling with a small child, this made bedtime difficult and significantly impacted our experience. The restaurant experience was equally frustrating. I ordered chicken tenders for my child, but they arrived covered in a spicy buffalo-style sauce, making them inedible for a young child. I charged the meal to my room and only discovered several days later, after requesting an itemized receipt, that a 22% tip charge had been added. I was never informed of this 22% tip charge when ordering. When I called to ask about it, the manager explained that the 22% charge was for room service tip. However, the food was never delivered to my room. I was required to walk to the restaurant and pick it up myself. While I didn't mind retrieving the food, I do mind being charged a substantial tip for a service that wasn't provided. To make matters worse, my hands were full carrying three drinks and a bag of food back to the room, and one of the overfilled drinks spilled along the way. I also spoke directly with the hotel manager regarding the 22% tip charge. I explained that I was never informed ahead of time that this charge would be added and that the food was not actually delivered to my room. Instead, I had to walk to the restaurant and pick it up myself. The manager did not seem concerned that I was being charged what was described as a room service fee without receiving traditional room service. What bothered me most was not just the charge itself, but the lack of transparency and the apparent unwillingness to acknowledge why a guest might find that frustrating. If they had actually delivered the food themself I would have tipped more. The combination of the dirty room, excessive noise, unexpected charges, and poor dining experience made for a very disappointing stay. I would not stay here again and would not recommend either the hotel or the restaurant.

Linda (the owner) gave us a fair&unbeatable price for the Larger poolside suite despite it being Mardi Gras, Valentine's day, as well as it being the weekend when we arrived. Linda was a DOLL! She took care of us, fluffed our room when we were out & reloaded our fridge with breakfast daily. She showed us around the place and welcomed us like family. I truly felt like I was at mom's house. True southern hospitality. We had a few good talks about the history of her house and her life as she once lived in New Orleans. My fiancé enjoyed talking with Linda as New Orleans is where he was born and raised. Despite our talks, Linda does not hover! Which was so appreciated, when you're on a "romantic"vacation. We had our own privacy during our stay as each suite is separate and inaccessible from where Linda stays in her home. We came and went as we please and used the hot tub at night as late as we wanted. We had our own private entrance, which was incredibly nice. The privacy was appreciated as I didn't know what to expect when we first arrived, but I was prepared to be open minded. I think I will always choose a Bed and Breakfast over a lousy hotel in the future. The rooms were grand and clean. The bathroom was nice and the shower as well. Everything was clean. Its just an old house, but I loved the cottage vibes. It was home-y. The town is walkable and cute! A Mardi Gras parade came right through down the street, during our last day there, which was nice. The poolside porch and hot tub made me feel like I was at a resort. The beauty of the home is breathtaking! Romantic cottage vibes! Perfect for couples or even a small girls trip. I will definitely be back to Linda's next year when we visit again for Mardi Gras. Linda has made me never want to stay at a hotel again.

To business owners!! Or Group events !!! Beware of this…read morehotel management if you are hosting any kind of event and want your staff or your workers to stay here, especially if you need a room block. I had called ahead months prior because our room block was assigned here and was made aware that their conference room was under construction. So I let the sales person know we had to do makeup and tanning for a show. He said it be fine to do out of our hotel room being that all competitors were staying in here as well. So I booked 2 rooms. The day of services to be done came, and everything was fine until a woman that worked for the hotel called the sheriff on our employee. 2 times! Then she was asked to leave as well very rudely! Our group was reprimanded and threatened as well when someone at the sales office had assured us it was ok! So my employee left , no damages were done and no longer than an hour later they tried charging our employee credit card $500 & my credit card $500 twice ! So I called the front desk and the woman said very rudely that her manager told us to charge our credit cards!! She also added very condescending that I couldn't do anything about it because they were independently owned and that it didn't matter who I had talked to ahead of the event . She said that the hotel person's information that was relayed to me was not valid! I almost felt like they have done this before because they are "independent owned" . They know people will not be able to do anything about it. Thankfully our banks flagged the charge attempts as fraud which is also considered theft and no extra charges were added. I want to let other businesses that will try to get a room block that these people are super unprofessional , rude, and will try to put extra charges on your credit cards! They could have given us a warning, or they could have listened to us explain we had spoken to us prior to arriving, but they didn't. They did not care . Be very careful booking them for a room block or anything for a group of people or anything business related. I would do my research thoroughly in that area if you have an event! I would book another hotel to host your event. Holiday Inn ended up taking us in and were super accommodating & understanding down the road. So our clients got done that day. Thank you Holiday Inn. Beware of the Hilton Garden Inn Covington!!!

The booking experience was easy, and they will automatically ask if you want to join their rewards program to get a better price. I was given the approximate cost of my stay and booked it up. You can check in online and give an approximate arrival time. I chose 6pm, but at 11am that day, i was notified my room was ready. I still didn't arrive until six, but that was nice to know had my arrival time changed. They need to replace the sign along the highway pointing you to the hotel as the one they have is faded, and the street sign is not too visible, but it's easy enough. There is a spacious parking lot with plenty of parking near the door. Check in was easy, i just showed my ID and was given my card. The front desk employee was really friendly and welcoming. My king room was large and roomy. It was your typical room - bed, tv, fridge, chair, desk, closet (no safe), Krueig set up, the basics. There is no in-room microwave, rather, there is one per floor by the elevators and vending area. I had to turn the fridge on, so be sure to check that if you anything that needs to be kept cold. The bathroom is super tight for space. I mean, uncomfortably so. I was travelling solo, so i only had my things, but to get to the shower, you had to walk all the way in to close the door to walk around the toilet to get in the shower. I think that was a poor design. The bed was comfortable with plenty of pillows. There was no road noise because you're about a block or so from the highway. While not the hotel's real fault, I was somehow placed among three rooms of young ladies attending a wedding who came back around midnight and were extremely loud with opening and closing the loud doors and yelling in the hallway. Not easy on the ears knowing I had a 4am wake up call for my race, but I didn't call to complain, and probably would have gone into the hallway to let them know had it gone on more than 15 minutes. I had to check out around 5:30am, and the restaurant looked like it was open, so that's nice. There was a note that the front desk person would return soon, but they have a key box, so i just dropped mine in there and headed out. The website says the pool is closed for maintenance with no expected reopen time, but I didn't try to go see if that was still accurate. Also, the price ended up being about $3 more than what my estimated price was, but no big deal, just be aware if you are expensing it for a trip. There are several restaurants and stores nearby, and downtown Covington is just a short drive away. Go a little further South, and you can explore the beautiful Mandeville lakefront area. The Northshore area truly is beautiful.

Upon arrival about 6:30 pm after a hard 9 hours of driving I had to knock on the wall to get someone to come to the front desk to check me in. There was no greeting, only a scowl as if I was troubling her when she finally appeared. There was no acknowledgement of my name or Marriott rewards status. Nothing. We got to our 3rd floor room and my key did not work. I went back down and got another. No apology. Went back up and that key did not work. Fortunately my wife's key did work and we got into the room. The room was ok except for the AC unit next to the bed which sounded like a 747 taking off every time it would start up. By then it was too late to change rooms and I had 0 confidence that the front desk person would be able to help us find another room. It was all an experience I hope to never repeat and I will avoid this property like the plague even though I travel through the area several times a year. Marriott definitely does not need angry employees serving customers, especially long term (over 40 years) loyal rewards members like me or anyone else.
