The moment we stepped inside, I knew we were in trouble. In town for a wedding (with two more…read morehapless wedding parties staying at the same place), we had no recourse when we realized how disgusting this place was. It was truly filthy. The hallways reeked of mold and cigarette smoke; our room smelled so bad that we had to buy an air freshener. The desk chair was oddly pushed against the wall, and when we pulled it out, we saw why: it was broken, with the back of the chair bent backwards and unable to stand upright. The front desk attendant was constantly absent, oftentimes sitting on a bench outside, smoking. Their was a keyed back entrance with a paved 'ramp' so bumpy and broken that it was unusable for a wheelchair and a hazard for everyone else. There are no elevators, so not friendly for those needing accessible rooms. The laundry room door was kept open all the time, with piles of soiled linens on the floor. A rolling basket of linens was often in the hallway outside of the door. The walls and ceilings were poorly repainted with clear signs of cracking, staining, and bubbling from water damage. Every surface was dirty and the carpet felt damp. There was a strong odor of mold all around. My brother was in the adjoining room and found the snacks he had packed for the trip fully swarmed by ANTS. The breakfast offerings were sparse. A coffee machine and a waffle maker were the high points, but everything needed a good cleaning. Rubbery fried eggs and brown and serve sausages were placed in a tiny warmer, and there were a few random cups of yogurt and off-brand package pastries that were largely stale. Coffee cups, lids, and creamer ran out frequently and took a long while to be replaced. We had to power through for the sake of the wedding and were glad the beds at least seemed clean -- SEEMED being the key word. On the last day, we flipped two pillows and found what could only be actual BLOOD STAINS on them! This place is absolutely disgusting and needs to have its franchise rights pulled immediately.

I really wanted to give this cute place a higher rating. I went for a weekend with my sister and…read morewas not thrilled. Positives: Decor: the place itself was quaint and very well decorated with pieces from the time. Nature - my favorite part was the beautiful walk though the woods on property just feet from the house. Stunning. Negatives: Bed was under 5 feet long! Since I'm 5'5", it was a terrible night of not sleeping. I couldn't lie on my back as I usually do, because my feet needed another 6-12" of space. Curled on my side could have worked if the mattress didn't sag so much. I stayed in a room that calls this bed a 3/4 bed online. No explanation of what that means. I googled it and found that 3/4 beds are normal length but between a twin and a full. That is not what this bed was. After our stay, I emailed the owner and asked her to update the listing with more information so I could give it a better review. She said she would but that was almost two months ago. The review still states that 3 people could stay in that room, which would only be true if one of the people were 4'6" or shorter. Breakfast was not what I'd have expected from a b&b. First, I'm used to being able to sit at a table near other couples but not be forced to be at the same table as we were here. Half a nice grapefruit was a good start. Then some slices of store bought krugel. Fine. But then no eggs. No savory portion. Just straight from the store bought coffee cake to some kind of French toast which seemed mostly just bread and sugar. She asked who eats sausage. I don't but then there was no protein replacement which was fine but not ideal. Also, breakfast isn't served until 9a which seemed quite late to me.

They refuse to let me check in early even with a platinum status, so I took my business away from them. Before I did, I called the Hampton Inn never had been at this property before and amazing employee by the name of Leland assisted me. I explained that possibly would like to check in a little bit early because I was changing hotels, and the checkout time was a lot earlier than what their check-in time was. He said normally that's not a problem but just let me verify that we have a room ready. Now this was at 10 o'clock in the morning. He came back and said that will not be a problem. Absolutely you can come anytime and we'll get you checked in. Yet when I try to check in at the Holiday Inn express in Algonquin at 12 o'clock I was told I would be charged $40 for that extra time even though the daily rate was $106 and I held a platinum status. When I actually arrived, Leland was behind the desk and he couldn't have been more accommodating and generous. He did not know my story until after I checked in. I even had a blender and spilled water all over the council by the elevators and he's so kindly took care of it. I asked to actually clean up the mess, but he refused and said don't you worry. We've had a lovely stay so far. Thank you Hampton in McHenry for making a difficult day turn out. It's a little bit of sunshine and thank you Leland for your excellent customer service.
