I am writing to formally report an incident at my local Grocery Outlet location. I have been a loyal customer for over five years, and I have never experienced treatment like this before. During my recent visit, I was asked to provide identification for my purchase. I agreed and went to retrieve my ID from my car. I noticed, however, that the customer immediately in front of me was not asked for identification. I calmly stated that if IDs were being checked, the policy should be enforced fairly and consistently. At that point, the manager seemed offended and escalated the situation. She loudly addressed the entire store, belittling me , yelling at me everything caught me off guard and saying she refused service to me, insisting I leave. I did not raise my voice or act aggressively, I complied and felt deeply embarrassed and humiliated in front of other customers. I felt discriminated because the woman in front of me was not given a hard time when asked for I.d but once it was my turn she began giving me attitude until she blew up. I was calm until she began discriminating me. Her behavior made me feel singled out, discriminated against, and disgusted by her actions. Even as I left the store, her loud comments continued. Even after leaving a gentlemen caught me outside and said,"she is crazy she was being a total "b" there shouldn't have been any of that.." This incident turned what should have been a routine transaction into a public humiliation. I am requesting a full review of the manager's conduct, as well as clarification on your store's ID enforcement policies to ensure customers are treated respectfully and fairly. Just left this store and had one of the most ridiculous customer service experiences I've ever had…read more The cashier accused both my husband and me of buying alcohol for our 13-year-old daughter simply because she pointed at some bottles behind the counter. Somehow, that was enough for her to assume she knew exactly what we were purchasing and who it was for. For the record, we purchased a gas tank to fill a water and wanted a Fireball. When she continued questioning us, I even offered to show her our daughter's birth certificate and passport proving we are her parents. Instead of backing off, she doubled down and implied I was trying to purchase alcohol for my own child. I understand stores have a responsibility to prevent underage drinking, but making baseless accusations toward paying customers is completely unprofessional and embarrassing. If simply pointing at a product means a parent can't purchase it, then I'd love to know what alcohol she thinks a 13-year-old wouldn't recognize. There is a difference between following the law and treating customers with respect. Unfortunately, this cashier chose neither.
