I've always enjoyed shopping at Vons -- the store is consistently well-stocked and clean. Yesterday, however, I made a big mistake and left my wallet in my shopping cart after unloading my groceries. It was nearly 24 hours before I realized what I had done. When I called the store, Ken, the manager, let me know my wallet had been found and turned in. He couldn't say who turned it in, but I truly believe it may have been one of the employees who gathers the shopping carts from the parking lot -- and if that's the case, I'm especially grateful. In a time when honesty can't always be assumed, this meant a great deal to me. This experience truly solidified my loyalty to this store. Thank you to the team for doing the right thing. read more

My family and I have shopped at this Vons for years. Unfortunately, they have cut staff back so much that it's not worth it to go there anymore. If you aren't going to have staff at your deli or your meat counter, actively helping customers, then don't have it. It's pointless. I went in Saturday at 2 in the afternoon to get coleslaw. The one person working, on a Saturday, had to clean something and then put something else a way, before I could be waited on. The coleslaw display was empty. I asked if she had anymore. She maybe but it would take her 20 minutes or more to find it in the back. I still asked her to look. She left and maybe she looked maybe she didn't. She came back and said no they don't have any. I went to Stater Brothers where there were people who were actively serving customers and got my coleslaw. I almost don't blame the lady at the Vons counter because she was the only one there on a Saturday! We will be shopping at Stater Brothers from now on. Deli and meat counter staffed. I had this craving to make a copy of yoshinoya beef so I went to Vons to see my options. I showed up around 9ish and the butcher area was closed. One of the butcher showed up named Anthony and I asked him to help me to find this particular meat. I really like this Vons location. They have plenty in stock and the staff were also so kind and helpful! One thing I noticed is the security people that they had inside which makes this town seem a little bit unsafe But I had a pleasant experience here I bought some beautiful flowers for my friend too. The only negative thing was the shopping cart security feature locked up on the way out for no reason, but they quickly fixed it when I was on their way. But, when someone arrives before closing? Including up to ten entire minutes before closing? (Which I absolutely have at this location. Though it was 10:57pm on tonight's occasion.) And all they are looking to get is two things that they already know the location of? Maybe you could do something insane? Like? Oh, I don't know? STAY OPEN UNTIL YOUR POSTED HOURS STATE? And work the hours that you were hired to work. Which are the hours required for your job that you voluntarily accepted to do? Crazy concept huh? Imagine that? A world where the business you patronize? Actually cares about keeping their customers happy so they'll come back. And the best part is? You don't even have to do anything extra! All you have to do? Is the absolute bare minimum, of doing the job you were hired to do. During the hours you were hired to do it. What a crazy concept! I stated I have had this happen before at this location. Basically, this Vons is one of the few supermarkets in the DHS community. It's, like most things in DHS, kind of shoddy, shopworn, and overrun with a parking lot full of sketchy people. Compared to its counterparts in Cathedral City, West Hollywood, or Marina del Rey, it's a $.99 flipflop on a Birkenstock display shelf. Nonetheless, it's convenient for me, it has a self-check setup (a post-COVID must-have), and I make it my mission to jet in and out of there as quickly as humanly possible. One thing it isn't, however, is well-managed. Take this evening, for instance: 7:06pm on 4/6/24. I had visited the store about an hour earlier, and purchased several frozen items that were all on sale. Unfortunately, when I got home, I realized two of them did not scan at the sale price. Per my experience, items of all sorts don't ring up at the correct price about 35% of the time I shop at this store. This, of course, is the result of bad managerial oversight and poor training--it isn't rocket science to update a chain store's computer system to match advertised prices for a specific range of dates. I decided to make a second trip to the store anyway to buy a few more items and report the errors on my sales receipt. Instead of extending an apology, the woman manager I dealt with exhibited an overly curt attitude, failed to refund the amount due ($3.87) to my credit card successfully, and instead handed me cash, including $.87 worth of filthy coins that apparently emerged from the ass end of a goat. From the moment I walked in, the store was clean from trash and debris. This is quite a task considering the Windy City. I had to use the restroom and it was clean and stocked. First stop, service deli. Busy, and I heard "I'll be right with you" and I don't mind waiting after an acknowledgment like that! Great job slicing pastrami thin and service from the lady this morning around 11:00am on Tues. 5-13....lovely. Second stop, beverage aisle. I really needed green tea, shelf was bare, but a nice, employee, young gentleman told me Max can assist. WOW! Where did he come from? Not only was he kind and patient, I know how busy he is, he offered to walk to the back and double check for me if the vendor had any in the back. Then, he came out with green tea! It was the one I was looking for! Well done, Max! Third stop, meat aisle, clean, organized, but didn't purchase anything from counter today. Fourth stop, produce, always fresh, crisp, colorful and always in stock. The mgr, Ismael has formed an excellent produce team! They are always friendly and kind. Now, this is the most important part....the beautiful ladies that run the store, big smiles, patience, they CARE, please give them all a raise! It's a small Vons and seemed to be an older one too. Prices are pretty much the same as everywhere else. Did find an okay deal on avocados. They were pretty big, not yet ripe. But they will be quick enough. Waled around the store and the staff was really nice, floors were clean as someone came by me several times with a large broom going up and down all the isles. I stopped at the gas station to put $25 of gas in my car and I wanted to use an American Express travelers check. I was told they do not accept them. No explanation why. So I went over the store (across the parking lot). I spoke to the front end manager, who said they do not accept travelers checks at all. I want to give kudos to an employee in the deli at this location, I believe her name is Leeann W. She has really gone above and beyond to assist me the last handful of times I have needed help in the deli, and her courtesy has been a breath of fresh air that has improved my experience as a customer at this store. This week Leeann went out of her way to offer me different options when she was slicing my deli cheese to order. She also went the extra mile to thoughtfully add sheets of butcher paper between individual slices to make sure they didn't stick. I thanked her and said she seemed like she must really like her work; she responded that it was her pleasure to make sure that I was taken care of. She provided a level of friendly service and professionalism that you don't see much anymore. She makes me think highly of the Vons DHS location and I will be back. read more

I just moved to the area a year ago and this has become my go-to grocery store. But recently I have noticed only one checker with long lines, and a long line for the self-check out. I am unfortunately starting to avoid this store more and more now. Grocery Outlet and even Dollar General have friendlier, easier and faster check-outs. Why is it every time it is so hard to have people help you at the deli?? One person is always working and I guess the other two are not in deli so they can't help. Instead one person goes back and forth to check in the back for stuff. While this MF wants his meat cut so thin you can see through it. I come here all the time and I find it's cheaper than Stater Brothers. I've been satisfied with most of the products at Vons but the bakery goods. Every time I buy something that's packaged on the floor it's not very good. I recently bought the chocolate chip muffins for my husband, found that they're more like a lump of coal which I can only guess that's how coal taste as well. It was hard and had a horrible taste. I've bought cookies as well and other products, and they all have let me down. This Von is the worst! I had a horrible experience with cashier named Andrew B. Today. I even called julie, manager, about my experience of his negative attitude, condescending approach and predatory stares at me and then as we were leaving, telling me to have a good day with a smirk! Thinking back, I should have just walked away leaving everything! I was just asking him where the digital coupon was since I couldn't find it on Nabisco snacks. He kept repeating "how do i know why it is not in there if I don't have your phone." Why not say"sorry you couldn't find it but i will make sure you get the discount and make sure the digital coupon is available to customers". He had to hand enter the discount as "u-store discount" of almost $5 since I showed him the digital coupon sign. How is it he checks people out all day but does not know how digital coupon works. This Von tends to overcharge almost every time I shop here. I hate having to check my receipt. Be careful shopping here (drug addicts in the parking lot scoping valuables in your car and begging for $). Rather drive to PS instead. Von's corporate HQ must know how horrible this place is. I visited this Vons while in Desert Hot Springs for a week. I was particularly happy with the deli counter's freshly-made sandwiches. The deli counter workers were pleasant and helpful, and the sandwiches were tasty. This place is also good for dry goods. The produce selection was unfortunately lacking, but this is the middle of the desert, so you get what you get (and you don't throw a fit). In short, this is a perfectly serviceable Vons, with a decent selection of food, ample parking, and gas. If you're staying in Desert Hot Springs, it's a good choice to stock up on staples. read more

Huge shout out to this store! We live in our RV full time. During this COVID19 lockdown, we are staying in DHS. Not being familiar with the area, we knew we could count on Vons for quality food and supplies. I was impressed to see they opened early Monday morning for seniors and first responders! I was third in line of only 10 or so folks. The manager opened the door, greeted us, explained what products the didn't have and others they needed to limit. Our baskets had just been cleaned, the store was immaculate! Folks were all in a good mood, helpful whenever I or anyone else asked a question and tried their best to make things feel normal. Shelves were well stocked. Limits on key items clearly posted and the checkout process well controlled. Thank you for helping me and the others get this advantage! This is one of the larger grocery stores in the area. They have great pharmacy as well as one of the better selections when it comes to Von's Markets. The selections range from fresh produce to organic items, to toiletries, to paper plates, from meats, to hardware and cleaning supplies.. The pharmacy has a number of sections as well that will help anything from a headache , migraine, to sore bones. The staff is friendly and very helpful. The friendliness goes beyond the holiday spirit, it was genuine. Parking is a non issue as it i a mini mall that has plenty of parking. read more
