I was coming in from out of town and stayed at a facility nearby the surgery center that she recommended (Hideaway House in San Jose- it was perfect), where she stayed in another bedroom. She was phenomenal at making sure I was comfortable, fed healthy, fresh-prepared foods, and took all meds on time. She was reassuring and positive, a professional/expert on all medical elements of the surgery, and just so kind. Her rates were very reasonable, and I really feel it's the best money I've ever spent because those first few days set the tone for a really positive recovery. She kept in communication with my husband, who needed to be back home to take care of our young kids, and I didn't have to focus on anything except recovery. It is one thing going to a LDM specialist and another to go to someone with a nursing background and understands what your body goes through during the recovery process. I had fibrosis growing in my back and the two specialists I saw before Lidys did not mention it or try to address the problem at all. Thankfully I found her and she was able to get out my fibrosis lumps significantly in one session and completely in the second. Don't get scammed by these other lymphatic specialist that demand you buy 6-10 treatment sessions. She was honest and told me I only needed two treatments which was true. I lived with excess weight and now, skin, most of my life. Even as a teen I was never able to just be myself because my brain was too busy telling myself I was too big to fit in. My mental journey is a whole other level but what I can say is that dr Thorburn removed a lot of baggage for me. I had a Fleu de lis abdominalplasty and an implant exchange. She removed about 10lbs of skin, tissue, and fluid. She was realistic about my results, and was incredibly supportive of my goals. "I just want to be able to function" I told her. I got soooo much more. She gave me the freedom to finally feel comfortable in my skin. The first week was a rollercoaster. She warned me about that and I thought, meh I'm pretty positive and don't really complain, I'm sure it'll be fine. My first week post op visit was rough. I wanted to cry because I felt like I was doing so well with recovery the first couple days, then I felt like I was back to day one. I felt defeated. it's a whole mental journey- but I say all this because she really spoke to the mental piece of such a major surgery as well as the physical. First, I can't breathe properly out of my nose, and second my nostrils are different sizes one smaller than the other and the tip is very bullbous. Most upsetting, I have a piece of the graft that protrudes from the skin on the top of my nose that is noticeable. It will cost me probably triple to have it revised. I wish I had done more research.
