I hopped off the L train after another day of starving myself so that I can eat at least 2,000 calories at dinner. That's just the way I like to move idk. My destination was Super Pollo in Ridgewood, as it is the most recommended chicken spot in my comments and DMs that I have yet to hit. After 9 stops and a brisk 13 minute walk, I arrived at the promised land. I got this tingly feeling when I saw a Smart Car wrapped in Super Pollo branding. "Super Pollo" was written in bold yellow lettering and there was an animated chicken with "SP" on his chest like a superhero. I'm really not a car guy, but this is my dream whip. Legendary. I walked in and got a table for 1 like a nerd loser, but these chicken reviews tend to be a solitary practice. I feel Van Gogh. I got the half chicken and 2 sides combo ($17) and a side of maduros ($6) for the city. On the surface, this chicken looked like one of the greats. The skin was perfectly golden brown and so crispy. It crackled when I touched it with my fork. However, I got trojan-horsed a bit. The bird itself was just a bit dry. It wasn't so dry where it was killing me, but compared to the greats, it just didn't have the same tender juicy meat. The green sauce was AMAZING and made it to die for, but you must judge a chicken pre sauce. Otherwise we are just judging sauce. It was very well seasoned though and had so much flavor. I thoroughly enjoyed this meal, and it's still in my A-tier ranking for chicken spots. I'm just a rotisserie chicken snob at this point. 8.7/10. We order takeout from Super Pollo regularly. I always love the rotisserie chicken and the pernil. I'm also a fan of their tres leches cake. We buy their green sauce by the bottle, too. I ordered the 1/2 chicken with rice beans and avocado salad. My bf ordered the entraña. I don't know who's food I like more. It was all PERFECT. The skin on the chicken was perfectly seasoned and added such a great touch. His entraña come out on a fajita like plate so we took it off of that plate because he likes his steak medium and we didn't want it to over cook. I got horribly full because I couldn't stop eating. This is by far the best place I've been to recently. Service The staff is extremely friendly, attentive, and accommodating. From the moment we walked in to the second we walked out, everyone was great. Ambiance The music was nice and not overwhelming. The place was very nice, clean and tidy. Understandable, unfortunately the manager is incredibly rude. I asked if I could have a fish burrito, and he said "NO! NO WE DONT DO THAT! NO, NO" with no recommendation or anything. When I asked if I can just avec the burrito with no meat then, same response. Ok. But then the person I was eating with ordered a rotisserie chicken and a side of guacamole to this manager. He said ok, then I saw him send another server back to us to tell us no we can't get a side of guacamole. Only guacamole WITH tostones or WITH chips. Weird inflexibility again, so we got the tostones. #2 We make tostones all the time and have them at several restaurants. These were the most disgusting ones I've ever had. They're not fresh (they taste heated up), there's no salt on them, and they're dry. DRY like I don't know how it's possible to have plantains with no moisture #3 the rotisserie chicken was dry, the only good part about it was the skin #4 the guacamole had absolutely no flavor #5 FISH- I got the breaded tilapia since everything else was being met with yells and flailing hands. This was so bad. So bad that there's not much I can say. It tasted FREEZER BURNED. it was the worst fish I've ever had. It tasted distinctly like when you have fish sitting in the freezer for a long time and cook it, but that freezer burned taste can't be removed. Completely not fresh, completely disgusting. Please avoid this place, I wish we didn't come here. I've never not taken food home from a restaurant but this food was so bad I couldn't eat half my plate. I've been hesitant on whether or not it would be wise to write this review, but it's too pressing not to do so. So, here goes. First off, I am a long time customer of over 2 years and I have been ordering the Pechuga Platter every night for dinner, for the past year or so. The food isn't the problem. They have amazing food and their green sauce is to die for. It's their staff. A month or so ago, I had received a delivery driver (that is part of the restaurant, not through any delivery app) for my usual platter order. When she handed me my food, she said "No tip?". As she walked away, I told her "it's rude to ask". Their food is expensive as is. I order from them every single night. They kept trying to solicit tips and extra gratuity out of me, so I eventually called the restaurant and was told it would be reported to the manager. And, on a further note, they are extremely petty in this regard. I cannot afford to tip (it is optional) and they are honestly quite pricey. I've spent a lot on them as is. Even when it comes to delivery instructions, I have told the staff to leave it at the door outside my apartment. I come out to retrieve it, only to find it hanging from the top of the door, when they know better and to put it on the stoop. This isn't the first time they've done something like this to me. It keeps happening. And I know these drivers / restaurant staff members are doing it on purpose because I'm a frequent customer. They recognize my address, contact info, and order details--so it's safe to say I'm well known among them. Anyways, be cautious when ordering from this restaurant. The only thing "Super" about it to some extent is the food... otherwise, there are greedy and shitty human beings running it. Don't let them fool you out of your pocket. read more

Disclaimer: i ordered from door dash. We ordered a whole chicken, yellow rice, red beans, tres leche cale and chips with pico de gallo. Tres leche cake: DELICIOUS!!!! AMAZING!!! good room temp but I'm going to make sure it gets chilled the next time Chicken: off the chain Rice: cooked perfectly Beans: really good (I prefer black beans, will look harder to see of they have them the next time) Chips with pico de gallo; this is where they lost a star. The chips are amazing. They have to be freshly made because I have never tasted chips like this. They failed me with the pico de gallo 1. It was 2 small condiment containers of pre made salsa and 2 more containers of guacamole. 2. As far as I know pico de gallo is suppose to be fresh, nice pieces of veggies in its own juices.
