As Connie does accept all walk-ins - it is recommended to make an appointment so you do not have a wait of any kind. I called the # given on Google and Connie answered the phone - Very professional, pleasant to speak with, polite, & suggested making an appointment - of which I did and got in 30 mins after the initial call. Upon arrival Connie greeted me with a smile and was very socialable-GREAT conversationalist; nothing worse than sitting in a chair for awhile and having complete silence. I felt like I had known her forever! She was upfront with cost (women's cut starting at 35 - depending on length) my hair is pretty long so was 45. She asked me if I knew what I wanted, had pictures, etc. She knew the style and cut perfectly. After having my hair washed she continued to cut away and blow dried exactly as the referenced pics I had shown her. The best part is she asked about trimming and didn't actually cut double than suggested like every stylist does . She kept my length long - just made it healthier. The salon is a nice size, updated fixtures, clean and well lit. There are about 6 stations, shampoo bowls and a few dryers. Denise is located in the back of the salon, in a cute private room, used for waxing and facial services. Service: I've come a few times and haven't had much of a greeting by the staff or front desk team member. I'm usually greeted with "Are you here for Denise? She'll be out shortly." (rarely does anyone tell her I'm there, I've had to inform her via text) Denise is a brow whisperer. She is the ONLY person in Charlotte who touches my brows. I'd walk around looking like Oscar the Grouch before letting anyone else touch them. She is gentle and knowledgeable and if needed will put you on a regimen for growth/shaping. Then was upset when there were brassy, orange areas in my long hair. Wanted to have Carole, the owner, do it since I'd seen some of her highlight work that was good. Couldn't fit into her appointment schedule as she was traveling and had Cherry do it. Was dissatisfied with the color & appearance of "zebra" stripes near the scalp as it grew. I called Carol, who said she'd take a look. She said it looked like 8 week's growth, but checking it she realized it was 4 weeks old. (Normally lasts 10 weeks between coloring). I was charged full price (which should have been discounted since it only lasted 4 weeks. I was happy that Carol was doing it, figuring she'd be the best colorist experience-wise. But it wasn't...same orange spots scattered through, she left the toner on too long to cover the orange and then the hair was way too dark. She was busy re-doing another clients highlights while doing mine & must've lost track of time. She then trimmed my bangs way too short and totally slanted...and, to add insult to injury...told me i had a cowlick & that's what the bang slant was. I'm 68 & have never had a cowlick in my very straight hair in my life! I called her as soon as I got home and told her again she cut the bangs crooked. I had paid another $145 + tip for what looked like a botched do it yourself at home job. At this point I told her I wanted my money back. Her answer: no, I used product! Beware of this salon! I was looking for a new hair stylist as I had become complacent with mine but was very tired of not…read moregetting what I was asking for. I feel like it is always hard to look for a new stylist because it can be hard to know where to start. Sometimes referrals from friends are great, but because the Charlotte area is large, the last thing I want is a commute for getting my hair done, that process always takes enough time! I went back to yelp again, and found Southern Roots. While they only had a few reviews, they were all great. I called in and Tiffany actually answered, but had to book me with Donna because of the day I was requesting. She was very kind in trying to set this up for me. When I went to Donna the first time, I asked for my usual cut, a little off the bottom and plenty off the layers, as I love to see my layers. I also asked for my hair color to pop. Unfortunately this is where things went wrong. Everyone can interpret their definitions differently, and my thought of pop was different than Donna's. That is my fault for not going further into likes/dislikes. My hair is naturally brown and she added in blonde highlights that were way too bright and blonde for me. I hated how I looked and hated the contrast. While I did receive compliments on my new look, I did not like the shade of blonde in my hair. However, I loved the cut. I finally received a cut that I had been asking for! As I stated before, I love to see my layers, so I always ask for much shorter layers, and for some reason, other hair stylists only seem to go about an inch above my longer length even though I always ask for much more. Since I got the cut and realized my communication was poor on my likes/dislikes and what I wanted out of color, I decided to go back. At the second appointment, I told Donna I hated the color from the first visit. She was very kind in taking my hatred and even suggested I should have come back, but I really just wanted to try to get used to it, maybe I would eventually like it. I found pictures off the internet of colors that I liked and had them saved for this second visit. I showed Donna a couple, and she picked right up on the colors! She added in some red to my brown while darkening up the blonde from the last visit. My color was spot on! And to me, adding in the red and darker blonde, was my pop. It looked great, along with the cut! I just went back this weekend for a third visit. I confirmed my love for the looks from the second visit and we updated the red and brown this time. After we finished with the cut/color, I pointed out what I loved so that she could make notes on what to do and how to update the different colors for next time. My hair is naturally curly, but I probably style my hair curly half the week and half the week I style it straight. I love that Donna is willing to take the time to style it straight so that I can see the layers and see the cut, that way I can ask for a little bit more if needed. I am happy to say and excited to say, I have found my new stylist! I think it is great someone is willing to listen to my critiques and wants me to be happy. While I can't say anything about Tiffany here, I can say Donna is great and I would recommend her easily!

I left cash and a tip on a hair color job that nearly three long weeks later is so much darker than I am comfortable with that I still can't believe what I see in the mirror. She missed the mark on me. I'm not playful with my hair color... I wasn't trying to play with it. I loved it - even in its faded, sad post crisis condition it was "my" color. What I have now is a deep dark strange head that even my young children still can't figure out. My eye brow pencil is too light for my new Tiffany given color. Be warned and fore-armed about paying cash for such services. Tiffany apologetically and frankly unapologetic business manner won't do anything for me to adjust or fix this color "because of my hair history." So now my budget is spent and there isn't anything that can be done... I still look like "crisis hell". ....I'm just sad, mad, and feel entirely unlike myself - - mismatched to this dark mop -- just ugly.
