Woman that cut my hair ruined my month. Hair was 3 INCHES shorter than what I had specifically requested (r u okay). She also said she "did layers" but ends are all the same length. A strand of hair in the back of my head is 3 inches short from the root of my head. Hair looks like a bob. I look like Edna. I said stop cutting and she claimed she was "cutting the layers". Quite possibly, the shortest cut that I have ever had but it was what I requested. And when I returned home, my wife approved. That is where the rubber hits the road, so to speak. I did the online checkin and that helped as I did not have to wait too long once I arrived. The queue was managed from that. This was on Monday, August 6th at around 5:15PM. I usually go to a Supercuts closer to where I live, but I went to this Supercuts because it was on my way home from an appointment. The way my hair appeared when I came in, was shaved on the sides with a hard part. The hair on the top of my head was short (3 inches in length), but the hard part made it look like it was parted over to the right side. The stylist greeted me in a pleasant manner and sat me down to ask what I wanted. I carry a card around that a Supercuts employee wrote down for me years ago. The card says: "Hard Part (ask if she wants it again). 4-2 on side and back. Oval on neck". I showed the stylist this card and explained that I get the clippers on the side and back. That the 4 was to start up top and to fade into a 2, and that I wanted a hard part. She said she could do that and got started. She said, "You like it short, huh?" and I agreed. She turned the chair away from the mirror to start in with the clippers. I noticed that she was moving quite fast with the clippers, but I assumed she knew what she was doing. When she finally spun the chair around to the mirror, I was in shock. She asked what was wrong and I said, "It's SO SHORT". (It now looks like a man's buzz cut.) She said "isn't that what you wanted? You agreed when I asked if you liked it short. You seemed pretty sure of yourself." I told her that this is not what I wanted. She asked, "Well how did you want it cut?". I asked if it even mattered at that point anyways. I explained how I wanted it and she told me I should have asked for "scissor cut" on the top. How should I, a person who knows nothing about cutting hair know that? She apologized and truly looked upset. I told her that it was a miscommunication on both of our parts. She said that I wouldn't have to pay for the haircut, which I thanked her for. Another female employee gave me a $2 off coupon for my next haircut as well. Once the stylist was done trimming the back of my hair, and I was getting ready to leave, the stylist apologized again and as I was walking towards the door, the woman who handed me the coupon stopped me and said, "I'm sorry...unfortunately you WILL have to pay for your haircut." The stylist tried to explain to her coworker that it was a miscommunication, but the coworker said "Sorry, the manager told me we have to charge you." and pointed to the manager, who was cutting a man's hair right next to me. The manager didn't even look up and just softly said "sorry", like what just happened didn't matter to her. Out of this whole experience, I can excuse the miscommunication, since it was both of our faults for not making absolutely sure we knew what type of cut was decided upon. But I cannot excuse the fact that the manager barely even acknowledged me and wouldn't let her employee who knew a mistake was made, make things right for the customer. The cost of the haircut was a measly $17.95. I am not sure why the manager did not want to compensate me, but I would be less upset if she took the time to at least explain why. I have managed retail stores and hotels, and even if there was nothing I could do to remedy a situation, I would look the customer in the eye and apologize. I am not complaining to get any type of compensation, I just want upper management to coach their store management to respond in a better way when faced with problems like this. read more

Be warned that your experience is going to depend on the person cutting your hair. Some will give you the time and treat you with respect while others will do what they want so they can move on to other people. I have been going to this location for several years and had a decent experience. This last time was bad. The women i talked to to make my appointment was rude on the phone. When i was there to get my hair cut, it felt like she wanted to get me in and out of the chair as fast a possible. I asked for her to trim my current hair cut, not go to short. She instead shortened my hair as short as it would go, including nicking my scalp several times. She did respect my wishes and not shave the top of my head, and used scissors. but did not wet my hair to make it easier to cut until it was clear I was uncomfortable. When she said it was good, i said yes just to get away from her. Even though the sides of my hear are not quite symmetrical. I was in the chair for about 10 minutes, give or take a few. It seemed like she was more interested in getting as many clients in before closing as possible. read more

I've been coming here on and off since I was a kid - no lie I've gotta thank Elaine for giving me one of my best haircuts in recent memory. I didn't wait more than 5 minutes on a busy Sunday afternoon - and Elaine was really nice, listened to what I wanted, and was efficient easy and honestly I felt like she cared that my haircut was done really well. The worst haircut I've ever gotten. First off: They don't take reservations, and they wouldn't tell me over the phone how long of a wait there was. I expect a barber to take a reservation, because that's how barbers work and that's just good business. I've been down there before and had to wait an hour for them to take me, at which point I walked out and stopped wasting my time. When I sat down recently, I wasn't asked how I wanted my hair. I told her how I wanted it, but she just started cutting it without asking. That's weird. The hairstylists down there also don't understand the basic concept of cutting hair with scissors and they use a buzzer for everything possible They also apparantly employ blind people. I'm REALLY not a stickler on how my hair looks and I've proven that many times, but my hair now looks ridiculous thanks to them. I also asked for my sideburns to be taken up. One was, the other was left 1.5 inches below the other. When I asked to correct the mistake she took the other one up .5 inches, leaving me with sideburns that were still almost an inch off. Believe me, I was actually so pissed off I measured. My last complaint about Supercuts is the service. Not only is their service inferior to any barber or hairstylist in the area, but they don't take the time to have a conversation with you, even if you try to start one. Maybe I'm old-fashioned, but if I'm getting my hair cut I expect to be able to talk a bit with the person cutting my hair and feel at ease. That didn't happen here, and I'm disappointed. In summary, I'm pretty sure that I could get an honorary degree from Jose's Five Dollar Beauty School and be able to cut hair better than this. If you want a decent haircut in Auburndale/Newton, go someplace else like Kevin Max or Larry's. read more

I was starting to resemble Cousin It, and I just couldn't take it anymore. It was a situation. It was so bad, that after I went to Shaw's I dropped my groceries off at the car and high tailed it over to Supercuts across the parking lot. There was no wait, which was nice, but I was told a wash, cut, and blow dry for long hair was going to be $47. What the what? This is Supercuts. That seems really expensive, for Supercuts. The same services are half that at Great Cuts. Not sure when getting your hair blow dried in the middle of the winter became a luxury, but I digress. Plus, I was desperate, so I agreed. A surly girl named Fatima was assigned to cut my hair. The only reason I know her name is because one of the other stylists called her "Fatty" and she said, in kind of an exorcist voice without meaning to "don't call me that". So we were off to a great start. When my hair was being washed I kind of felt like a dog at the groomers. Uncomfortable, wet, and squirmy. The haircut itself was uneventful enough. It took absolutely forever, which is strange because I have plain, straight hair with a slight angle in the front. Nothing too complex. The stylist did not say more than two words during the entire haircut, which was extremely awkward for someone so entrenched in my personal space. The haircut itself came out average. Like I said, I have easy hair to cut so it's hard for me to get a bad haircut. But it was so unpleasant and expensive, I won't be going back. read more

I am a student far away from home without the ability to go back for a haircut. I came here asking for a simple cut, I wanted a straight cut. I asked for a couple inches off, the hairdresser began to cut without first showing me what that would look like. At the end she had barely cut off two inches. When I asked her to cut a bit shorter she essentially refused telling me I had asked for 2 inches and that all I would get. After a bit of back and forth she did cut more of my hair, but did so hastily and without much care. My hair is still much longer than I wanted it but I was not given the opportunity to ask for it to be shorter. It is really uneven and the back is shorter than the front. Overall I am really upset with this experience and it is unfortunate that now I have to make sure I get my hair cut at home because I am clearly not respected up here. read more

They advertise "wash+cut+blow dry" for $23 dollars and up, you would think "up" is +$5 or +$10 or even +$15 for longer hair, to Supercuts "up" means +$20 even more for medium length hair! They also ask $10 for trimming bangs. I went there today and asked for just my bangs to be trimmed + a blow dry. My hair is 2 inches below shoulder length and I don't have a very thick hair, guess how much they asked for bang trimming + blow dry? $46! This is much more than real and expensive salons' prices! I ended up getting only my bangs trimmed! and I am not at all happy with what I got! I will NEVER go back to Supercuts ever again! read more

I have been going here for several years. I was looking up the phone number to see if my hairdresser was working today when I saw all the bad reviews. I figured I'd mention that Jade, who is the person who cuts my hair, is competent, friendly, and "super" committed to doing a good job, which she always does. Like in so many other areas, quality of service generally boils down to the person you're dealing with. I can recommend this place based on my experiences there with this hairdresser. (I've had a few haircuts there by other people, too, and didn't have any problems.) Hope this helps. read more

This Supercuts is always been a pretty fantastic and pretty consistent Supercuts and every time I've gone really since high school as a matter fact which was back in the 90s I've always been pretty happy with my haircut. I decide to write a review today because I got a haircut today that just made me feel spectacular just a few months ago I got one of the worst haircut of my life at A local Waltham barbershop and it was just awful. Today I went in and after only about 10 minutes of waiting I was seen by the very awesome Barbie, yes like the doll. I'm writing this review actually so I can remember her name. I haircut for me is usually a pretty quick and generally easy situation, but most people don't really care to make me look fantastic take the time to really make sure the edges are straight and everything looks clean. I got the best haircut probably of 2016 today. If you want a fantastic very highly attention to detail haircut and you like your haircut very short somewhat military style or or very high and tight I would say book an appointment with Barbie she has purple hair a warm smile and an approachable demeanor. Thank you Supercuts for being my staple haircut when I need something quick and I'm near my hometown and thank you Barbie for inspired me to write a review thinking supercuts in Newton for the last 20 or so years read more

I also was skeptical of Supercuts, BUT not any longer! I had taken a client of mine in there and "Barbie" did such an awesome job on my 93 yr old lady that I had to give it a try. That was 2yrs ago and I have not been back to my hairdresser that I would travel from newton to Easton, to pay well over $140.00 to have a color and cut!! I have observed all the other hairdressers as I sit there and wait for my hair to process or whatever is happening and their has not been one person that I have seen that has not been very happy with the haircut and or styling they had come in for. They take the time they need for you to be happy with what your having done! And by the way it does help to call first, it's not an appointment but if you give them your name and tell them around the time you need, they pretty much stick to that within 5/ 10 minutes at the most. read more

Kimberly is amazing! I had gone to someone else for a long while so was nervous to have a new person color my hair. Kimberly did a beautiful job! The color is terrific - and she was an absolute joy to work with. She was careful to ask me what I like (and do not like) about my hair and what I wanted in my color. I have been visiting this place for a year now. I got a hair coloring done recently. The stylist did such an incomplete job. After washing, all the grays were still visible(I was home at the time). I only had very few grays, I am not sure were she colored. Her name is Nirmala, please watch out if is allocated to you, prefer someone else or just run. She wasted my time, I had to go the next day to recolor it. They did a recoloring and felt sorry, but they can't give me back my two hours, which I had to spend in the salon for the recoloring. I gave one star because, this Supercuts has stylists, who can literally waste your time and energy. read more

I'm usually terrified of salons like this - I had gotten a terrible haircut at a Supercuts in 2002 and never fully recovered. But then a few months ago I wanted a shampoo/blow dry/flat iron for a wedding and I didn't want to pay prices for a blow dry salon. I decided to try Supercuts because I figured even if it didn't come out great, all I had to do was wash my hair. The woman who styled my hair, Barbie, was AWESOME. I had never seen my hair so straight and sleek. It looked great for days. I decided to try Barbie for an actual haircut and she did a nice job with that as well. She really took the time to make sure it came out nice. It wasn't a rush job like I've experienced at more expensive salons. I am lucky to be able to get a haircut on weekday mornings, so I haven't experienced the wait times. I will definitely come back here for another haircut, but I'll probably stick to Barbie. read more

Avoid this place if possible. I live very close and am a busy dad, so the late hours are appealing....but every time I get a different cut with the same precise directions. I have called ahead hours before coming in and a few times and walk-ins are taken before me. Unless you get here mid day on a weekday, you'll wait for way too long for the quality you get. Great haircut for toddlers! I took my 14 month old daughter and got her first haircut done by Theresa. She was really good and very gentle and slow which is good for babies! She made my child feel comfortable and didnt try to rush the cut! Although in my opinion I mostly went for a trim and the final charge was $13.95, I am a happy 'mom' client! I am glad I took the right step and won't regret going to this one! read more

Not only that but the bonus was when she asked me if my hair was cut previously at Chinatown. When I responded with silence she asked a coworker the same question. Maybe they just don't know how to cut asian hair. Or they don't know how to listen to instructions. Or maybe they just don't care if things look good as they're cutting. I'm pretty sure that they train newbies by just throwing them at actual customers too. I mean.. who turns you away from the mirror for the entire cut so you can't see what they're doing?? I've been here many times. Once in a while you get an ok cut. But more often than not, I come away super disappointed. It's too bad that this place is so close and convenient. She's extremely wonderful too, a super nice person, and the price is excellent. I'm a normal person from the suburbs, and was impressed. Don't hesitate to see Nirmala, her expertise is far beyond all of the ridiculously expensive hair salons around Newton/Waltham, and she is just THE NICEST person I've ever gone to. Enough said. This Supercuts is fantastic - almost everyone that's cut my hair can competently barber & style to my liking. Personally, I think the store Manager, Ashley B goes above and beyond. Not only does she perfect my haircut but she adds a great conversation and experience when you're there. Wouldn't recommend many people to give a haircut, but Ashley is definitely an excretion. She is completely professional and ensures her staff is always in sync with each other. I don't get my haircut anywhere else! read more

I made an appointment for 12:00 and ended up waiting 40+ minutes. When I tried to tell them that I had called ahead of time, they just told me to take a seat. I asked the person how much longer it would be and if I could go and do something while I waited, she said she would ask her manager, but never did. Terrible service, worse quality.
