Awesome little restaurant. Don't sleep on it either, it's a small location and I never see any cars there. They seem to get slammed with online orders and take out. I had an Asada burrito and a Taco. Had a hankering for tacos and found this little place in Cary. It seems to be a family owned business and I love to support small businesses. I wanted to try their elote tamale but they were all out so got the mole tamale and fish tacos. Fish tacos only comes in 3 so couldn't order any others because there was no way I'd finish all that food. My husband got the el pastor, carnitas and another taco that I can't remember the name. The food was tasty, a little too spicy for my liking but my husband who loves spice appreciated it. The tamale was very authentic, I'd like to go back and try the elote. Over all everything was a tad dry but still enjoyable and reasonably priced. There was both indoor and outdoor seating, we sat outside in the covered area which could use a little love but no major complaints. I was born and raised in San Diego and just moved to Raleigh 6 months ago. I've been looking for a REALLY GOOD Mexican restaurant. Everything here is mid compared to SD. But this place, WAS SO GOOD! The tacos de cabeza WERE THE BEST I'VE EVER HAD. The workers were chill and nice. It's super authentic which I love. They bring out the food to you and the wait is short. My friend was wanting a more authentic Mexican meal and decided to try out El Amigo in Cary. The service was amiable and the wait time was not bad at all. The papusas were as good as any I've had and the portions were generous. Not a bad price either. I cannot remember what my friend ordered but it was also satisfying; he thoroughly enjoyed it. El Amigo is a hidden gem in Cary. We eat here often and it's so delicious every time! My favorite is the chicken tacos. The chicken is grilled to perfection with an amazing flavor. It comes in a corn tortilla with cilantro, lime, radishes, grilled onions, a side of sauce, a slice of grilled pepper, and raw onions (which I always ask for no raw ones). It's so fresh and yummy! My husband gets the chicken tacos too and the tamales. The tamales are also delicious. This visit I tried a chicken sope, which was amazing with beans, avocado, and sour cream. Their juices are always tasty. This visit we got the tamarind juice, but we've also tried their horchata. I love them all. We always come back and I highly recommend a visit! read more

Where do I begin...after learning the only alcohol available was beer, we should have left then. It started with cold, stale chips and a NyQuil cap of salsa for 2 people...no exaggeration...they did provide another capful of spicy salsa, but it was too spicy . And get this...our guacamole included the avocado pit! While my taco and Gordita were ok, the chicken quesadilla was inedible...chicken appeared gray with weird texture. Saw good review for this place. It wasn't crowded at lunchtime so gave it a shot. It is mostly like an indoor taco truck. You order your food at the counter and they bring it out for you. No plates, No chips. No silverware, just pastic fork and knife. You get your can of soda out of a cooler. Then bus your table to a rather nasty and over flowing trash can. For this you get the typical tip screen. 2 street tacos with rice and beans ran me $20. I was raised on Tex-mex food which is closer to typical Mexican restaurant but a lot spicier. I know this is more Cali style I guess but beans were thin and rice was yellow food service type. Should have noticed no Hispanic customers in town full of construction workers. This place has all the markings of a local dive that you might bypass: fast food-style order at the register, kind of worn all over, small seating area, grab a drink from the fridge, no beer, you can order chips and salsa if you want them, and no other customers. Came here between lunch and dinner time, so I was the only customer. No greeting when I came in, no help with the menu offered when I stood there pondering the menu. Ordered a bean pupusa and a steak taco and proceeded to the dining room. Many of the tables needed to be wiped down but I finally found a table that at least looked clean. Decor is typical Mexican and there is Mexican music playing. Both the pupusa and the taco came out hot, and each had a small cup of sauce with it. The pupusa had a small serving of slaw on the side and the taco had two pieces of radish and a small wedge of lime. The food was good, just not great, but I had wondered about this place and decided to give it a try. Did seem more "authentic" than some of the other places around town,but prices were higher for many items. read more

As someone who lived in California for 10 years, the convenience of having good, affordable Mexican food no further than a stone's throw away is one of the few indulgences I miss. The staff at El Amigo were some of the friendliest I've met and the food was great! Maybe a bit pricey considering the portion sizes but I wasn't complaining given how good the food was! This place stands out from most of the Mexican restaurants I've been to. In particular the barbacoa tacos were mouth watering. I also had the chicken and pork tacos as well and they were good too. The flavor was on point, and they also added slices of cooked onion to put inside the tacos, and it added a great flavor touch. We are from California and adore Latin American foods. It's been hard to find a lot of non-Americanized places in the triangle, especially that are a good fit for vegetarians. El Amigo Mexican restaurant is now my go-to favorite! The bean and cheese pupusas were delicious... So much so that we devoured them before I got a photo. The salad was fresh and delicious with high-quality ingredients. They were great about making changes to dishes such as the vegetarian sope to remove the dairy products. Even without the cheese and sour cream, it was still delicious. And of course, the plátanos fritos were a delicious dessert! We will certainly be returning to this restaurant many times and look forward to when the weather cools down so we can eat outside. read more

The staff is great, and I can tell they work hard on their food, but the dining area could use some help. They do have a large outdoor seating area, and it's located in a great spot. THE BEST! El amigo is our favorite spot in the Cary/Raleigh area. Authentic Mexican that's sure to hit the spot. A staple in our meal rotation and a go to of ours. My personal favorites are the al pastor tacos and the shrimp tacos. My husband the asada and pollo tacos. The barbacoa tacos are also amazing! All the tacos come with roasted jalapeño & onion, as well as sliced radishes and fresh lime juice which perfectly top the already delicious flavors. Chips and guac are a must as well. The staff are always wonderful!! Highly recommend! Plus they have beautiful plants and a nice big outdoor area with tables under the pavilion as well as in the sun on the patio. read more

Food is good. Better Mexican food in Durham but for the proximity to home it's not bad. Customer service was mediocre. When I placed the order I asked the girl for hot sauces. We like our food very spicy. She said the person bringing out the food would provide that. When we got the food, we asked the guy for 4 hot sauces. He obliged and brought them out. It wasn't enough so my wife went back in for more and the same guy told her the sauce is not free and he would have to charge her .25 per sauce. We're in the middle of dinner and my wife didn't take her purse with her inside. So no hot sauce. I'm shocked because I have never been asked extra money for hot sauce and I've been to many different Mexican restaurants. The bill was $32 and I left a $6 tip. You're really gonna nickel and dime for for hot sauce?? Well, I'm not coming back here. I can't afford the hot sauce. read more
