We wanted to try a new spot for lunch and ended up going to K38. It has a beach themed menu and decor. We were pleasantly surprised with the portion size. Here is what we got: Queso: It had bits of jalapenos which added a nice flavor and kick to the Queso. Cod Taco: At $10 a taco, it was definitely a huge portion. The slaw added a nice crunch to the taco. Shrimp Quesadilla: this was my favorite. Again really good portion with a decent amount of shrimp and full of flavor. Let's start with the positives: great location here at seaboard Raleigh. Service was great, restaurant is very vibrant. Has the cali feels. Now let's get down to the food. We really wanted to keep it simple to really see what they have to offer. Order what they are known for. I got a mission style burrito with carne asada. It was filled with a lot of rice and shredded lettuce. Very little steak. The steak was bland. The rice is made with this tomato base flavor.... just not good. My husband got 3 gringo tacos with beef. The meat had a nostalgic taco bell taste, but again had all this shredded lettuce and tomatoes.... doesn't compliment the taco. A beautiful beach vibe restaurant with outdoor seating. I felt like I was in a Myrtle beach restaurant. The food was delicious. I had the cheesesteak crips, a pomegranate fizz mocktail, and my partner ordered the Cali burrito. There's plenty of space for parties and cute booths for a party of 2. Overall a nice spot for some West-coast style tacos and Mexican eats. Inside the space is very nicely appointed in a lot of natural woods and turquoise color along with some beach vibes. The menu is Baja Mex (Mexican-American), we're talking tacos with lettuce, tomato, shredded cheese. I did the tacos in a beach towel (soft tortilla, queso, hard shell and the proteins/veggies tucked inside) which were tasty. One plus is they offer grilled corn/elote as a side which is a nice change of pace. Service was solid and prompt at the bar, no issues there. Is K38 authentic tacos? Not at all but that doesn't mean it isn't tasty or worth a visit. Just reset your expectations for a more Americanized Mexican experience. read more

I did a take out order online. The food was very good, however it was ready 20 minutes later than promised. When I got home, I found that one entree was missing from the bag, even though paid for it. I had to drive back to the restaurant and wait for the hostess. The missing entree was sitting in the kitchen, now lukewarm. When I finally got home, the rest of the meal was lukewarm as well. I went to k38 for lunch today and ordered the Cabo roll. Service was a bit slow for the fact that it was not that busy and I was alone. The server was friendly however. My shrimp was overcooked which took away from the dish completely. I had high hopes for this restaurant since it's so convenient to my job but the food was really not worth the price. read more

Ok, this was a gd delight. Eight of us had a reservation across the street but bailed after the restaurant's stench was too nauseating to manage. We had little hope that K38 would be able to accommodate us, but they couldn't have been nicer. We all know that the chips|salsa|queso|guac quad is the defining characteristic, and I'm awarding five enthusiastic stars there. My friend and I always order mezcal but we were torn asunder by this coconut prickly pear Serrano situation that won my heart - he stuck with the cucumber mezcal and gloated rather unattractively about how badly I was missing out. I brought an order of ACP home for the kid, who awarded it best-ever status. All around strong showing - will definitely be back. read more

Came here for the first time with hubby and adult daughter. We ordered drinks and food. The verde pulled chicken tacos had absolutely NO flavor. Not salt pepper lime or cilantro. Bland and almost inedible. The saving grace was the different sauces on the tables. A shame we didn't notice until we decided to stop eating, not worth the calories. The ground beef in the taco bowl was ok. We did like the chips and salsa and the fact the windows open to the outside. Drinks are small for price. Not gonna return. read more

Not good. One extra star for the great hostess, seating, and the effort of our server. A few things: The drinks took easily 25-30 minutes WITH us having to ask the bartender twice directly. They came piecemeal, not together, and 2 of the orders were the same house special wine which also came separately, minutes apart. You couldn't pour 2 glasses on the same tray? Second, the food was not much better than fast food. I had the Taco in a Towel (or something). Not stellar (in all fairness, the refried beans were fantastic). The manager (I guess) announced he would comp us a percentage of the bill. We all heard "50%". Turns out he meant 15%. Nice gesture, but a better one would have been to cover the drinks. One final note: our next door neighbor warned us in advance but added "they just opened, so maybe still getting things organized", so we decided to try anyway. Shoulda listened. read more

So excited to try this place and the disappointment I got. My husband, son I went for late lunch yesterday. The food is absolutely tasteless. No flavor, no seasoning just Blah! I took one spoonful of the rice and beans and I was done with that, then got to the enchiladas and even worse. Didn't touch anymore Finally tried my husband's chile reño if you can call it that with the tomatillo sauce. Truly no flavor. Waitress was very pleasant and checked up on us often and often apologized that I didn't like the food, but didn't try to convince me to try something else. I'm not the type to not ask for freebies and truly I didn't want to try anything else. We did get a discount for living upstairs and that compensated my meal. First, the food was absolutely delicious. The house salsa was the best we've had at a restaurant...actually tasted seasoned and not just watery puréed veggies. I have loved eating at K38 when I visit Wilmington and was so happy that one just opened close to where I live in Raleigh. The food is great and the service is even better.
