I hired this company to repair my mom's sprinklers last year. The guy showed up a day or two later than I was originally told. The crew was at my mom's house all day and during this time they cut the internet lines and didn't even fix the issues. When I was reviewing the stations with the main guy I noticed that one of the stations was still not working. The guy argued with me that this station was not in the quote. I showed him the quote I was given and it definitely was in the quote. He was annoyed and said well I've already been here too long and my boss is going to be mad. He put some crappy drip hose that took him 10 minutes to place and left. The job that was done was not worth the almost $6K I paid for a system that does not work. I had to have someone else come and work on the system, which worked for the rest of last year. I did not post a complaint last year because I was very upset and had to let it go for my own sanity. Needless to say, I will be paying another company to fix the crappy job this company did last year!! Do not not waste your time and money on this company. read more

Superior Outdoors is ripping you off! I had them do a system upgrade and fix many broken sprinklers last fall, then a winterization a couple months later, and even though I thought they were very expensive, I didn't think too much about it.  Then I had a leak in part of their new system a couple weeks ago.  They were good to come over the day I called and fix it, and I was hoping for/expecting a warrantee claim, but it was the main valve a couple feet upstream of their previous repair and while it is unclear whether their repair damaged the valve, I still hoped for some adjustment.  I'm not quibbling about the parts, but the $3,000 for six hours of labor is outrageous--$500/hour!!!  I work for a large defense company with a ton more overhead than a small company and our burdened rates are half that.  I have an attorney friend and her law firm charges half that.  The technician said he leaned forward and "saved" me $1,200.  I asked for a new invoice with the labor hours and a reasonable rate itemized and they declined saying $3,000 is the "exact" price for the valve replacement.  So I asked for the $1,200 discount the technician mention to be applied to the exact price.  Then they said that the price range for that valve replacement is minimum $3,000 and could be up to $5,000 for more difficult conditions...so much for "exact".  The owner said he wouldn't have allowed the technician to knock off the $1,200 if he'd known...which means he was good with charging $840/hour! He pointed out they charge $125 for small jobs, which is their service call price, and what they charged me for the winterization with took about a half hour. So we can assume $250/hour is their fair rate--he wouldn't agree with that when I suggested it, but he didn't deny it either. He said they will never operate on a per hour basis, but price the job. Here's their racket: They attempt to make you feel OK with this outrageous price by promising to keep it less than the top of the range, and then they do, but not because it is a fair price, but because they try to make you feel better about it by "giving" you a discount.  And then they charge you $500 to $800 and hour. They appear to do good work with experienced technicians, and are responsive and friendly.  Before you use them, I suggest you ask them questions like how many hours to do this job? Then multiple those hours by $250 and that should be the price. If you don't, you'll be charged twice or three times that. Or get a quote from other companies that will give you a fair price and press them on their "We will beat any other written estimate" claim. Do you make $500/hr? Would you hire a plumber for $500/hr? Would you hire a car mechanic for $800/hr? Don't let them rip you off! read more

Only gave it one star because zero was not available. DO NOT USE this unethical business! I spoke with the owner in August about a project. He said I was in luck because they had a two week window that had opened up and they could get right on it. Within 48 hours I had received their price and accepted it. The following Monday the scheduler said things "had filled up" and they would have to scheduled it out a bit. After stringing me along for over a month they said they were full and would not be able to do the job. I had other bids I could have accepted but Superior's owner said they could react quickly. At this point I am left with zero options as all other ethical businesses are not available this year. This seems to be a classic example of booking as much business as possible then really accepting the most profitable and easiest. NOT AN ETHICAL BUSINESS. Buyer beware! read more

After paying $2,300 to move cap adjust and add a few sprinklers in my yard, so the yard would have equal coverage was told there would be a service charge of $125 to come look at a dry spot in my front yard. Followed recommendation of how long and how many days to have the sprinklers on. Front yard started having mushrooms on the side but not in the middle. Turn time down. No longer have mushrooms on sides , but grass in middle of yard is dying. Front lawn looks better before I paid superior landscaping to have equal coverage. Dave did come quick for quote and they were only a few weeks out. They did add $100 to the quote on day of repair. Workers were very efficient even though they were late by four hours, they finish the job in a timely manner. On the quote sheet it does say there will be a service charge even if it's under warranty. What happen to customer service!!! Issue I have is charging ecome out when it wasn't done correctly the first time. I have referred customer to them but no longer . Will never use them again. Should have checked reviews before using superior landscaping . This is a pattern for superior landscaping. Very frustrating. Not to mention they charge a $125 flat service fee and charge an extra 3% to pay with a credit card. Would NEVER use them again and unless you are made of money, find someone else! read more

Got the name of this company from Homeadvisor.com. Shandy (sp?) from Superior Outdoors did call me and we set up a time when Dave would come and look at our front lawn gardens the very next morning between 8:30am and 9am. I specifically said I wanted to landscape our gardens as a present for my father's 90th birthday which was also the day Dave was scheduled to come by. The scheduled time came and went and no Dave and no phone call from Superior Outdoors to say why Dave didn't show up. I left two messages on their voicemail machine (where the message says they'll get back to you within 24 hours). No response. Maybe he drove by and thought our gardens were too small for his company. I don't know. I guess I never will because they sure aren't returning my phone calls. read more

Hired Superior Outdoors to do an initial landscaping project (e.g., irrigation, finish grading, curbing, some additional cement work, and sod) based on their price point and estimated start date. We already had a landscaping design with CAD drawings for them to go off of, as well as an irrigation layout configured to prevent over spray onto future fencing since the secondary water in our area has an iron oxide (rust) problem that stains everything. The project ended up starting about 3 weeks late due to an equipment failure, which was an inconvenience, but understandable. The real problem we had is with the finished product, as outlined below. First, during our meetings with Dave (owner) we had repeatedly voiced our concern about the existing rough grading, and the need to bring in more dirt to avoid water accumulation in a relatively large area where all the surface water runoff from all the housing in the region was converging. We were told multiple times bringing in dirt would be a waste of money and unnecessary. Against our better judgement, we took his advise. Fast forward to the future, as expected, every time it rains or a neighbor over waters, a veritable pond of stagnant water would develop and stay right where we knew it would. We brought it up with Dave and his solution was a $1500 sump pump install to capture and push the water out. We ended up doing this (but not with Superior) to avoid having to tear everything up in the corner to bring in more dirt after the fact, which is a pain in the neck for long term maintenance. So frustrating when the problem and extra cost all could have been avoided by simply bringing in more dirt in the beginning to keep the surface water flowing away properly. Second, we also voiced our concern about sprinkler over spray due to the staining our community was experiencing with the secondary water. Dave didn't even bother looking at our irrigation plans (which, candidly, were a bit over the top and did at least need to be modified), but told us he would get everything installed perfect to avoid any over spray onto future fencing. Notably, the future fencing was to be offset from the lawn by curbing and some river rock, so there was room to play with to avoid the issue. As the irrigation lines were installed, we voiced concern about heads that would be spraying toward (i.e., rather than away from) the fence line (which was clearly shown in the CAD drawings), but were told that over spray wouldn't be an issue because the throw and trajectory of the could be easily controlled by the sprinkler heads. Again, we took him as the expert, and let them proceed. Fast forward again to the future, over spray by the heads spraying towards the fence line is indeed an issue that couldn't simply be resolved by playing with the head adjustments without resulting in under spray in areas that would kill off the portions of the lawn. We ended up having to hire another landscaping company to dig up and move a bunch of the heads to better positions that spray away from the fence line. Again, another avoidable and annoying expense. With the above in mind (as well as other, less costly, but still annoying issues), Superior Outdoors was usually responsive to telephone calls, and the crew did a good job with the cement work (e.g., a cement pad, and some curbing, wherein the curbing was subcontracted out), SOD installation, and conforming to the general layout/dimensions/spacing presented in the CAD drawings. Accordingly, I bumped the rating up a few notches to account for what they did right. That being said, at the end of the day, our frustrations over the problems and extra expenses effectuated by what Superior did wrong would preclude us from using their service again, and from recommending them to others. read more

Surprised to see a negative. Dave, the owner, squeezed me in where there weren't any openings because my sprinkling system was broken and my yard was drying up fast (I didn't realize it was broken until things were already getting pretty dry, so it became somewhat of an emergency). I called him on Saturday and he came out Monday. I was surprised that he even answered his phone on Saturday. Most sprinkler guys I've tried in the past either don't answer their phone at all or they give me a date 3 weeks out. Dave came out on Monday and diagnosed the problem and had his employees over later that day to repair/replace the relay on our sprinkler pump. I definitely have a new sprinkler guy. I hesitate to give him a good review because I don't want him to turn into one who doesn't answer his phone : ) but he definitely deserves a good review. read more

Superior has done my whole landscape at my home. My sprinkler system is awesome and I never have any brown spots in my grass. They also did a lot of concrete for me. Most of it was colored and stamped. It looks so good! I love it!! Dave was great to work with and all the employees were super friendly and hard working. They did very high quality work for a very affordable price. I would highly recommend this company to others! read more
