They kept postponing our service. One reason was due to wind, yet they were able to complete our neighbor across the alley when it was windy. I was told they would be here at 7 am and they showed up at 8:30 am. When I called their office to ask about when they would show up, they hung up on me. Amateurs!!! Avoid at all cost. I should have paid a little more and gone with a previous company. I could have done a better job myself. How many bad things can I say about Superior Wood Care: 1. Did not use plastic to protect anything from overspray 2. Stain overspray on my driveway and the bricks of my house 3. Stain overspray on my garage door (which I covered with plastic myself) 4. Uneven staining on the fence 5. Runs in several places 6. Posts with runs and missing sections of stain 7. Did not mask off, got stain on neighbors fence 8. A one-person crew who sprayed the fence but did not brush off the stain After complaining, I was told by the office staff that a different team would clean things up and touchup my fence, what a surprise the same guy came out and was dismissive If I had not been paranoid, and put plastic on my new garage door, it would of had stain splatters and overspray all over it, I would have gone ballistic. After 25+ years I am stuck on Superior. They did the initial staining and all of them over the decades since 1998. The latest was in response to hail damage in May 2023. The hail knocked off stain on west facing side but the overall fence was due to be stained again. Initially I was doing it every year but when the stain was really inside the wood we went to two year intervals. One phone call setup the job which takes two days. One day to wash, let fence dry, then stain. read more

*UPDATE* After contacting them, got a call from Paul the manager. He listened to my issues and sent out another crew the very next day and finished off the fence. They were apologetic and attributed it to a communication error, which I can buy in to thanks for making it right guys ________ I echo everyone else's comments... After pushing off our cleaning and staining (with almost zero communication), they finally show up almost a month after the original proposed date and made a mess of our yard. Not only that...they completely forgot an ENTIRE SIDE OF THE FENCE... My wife informed me of their haphazard nature, including leaving a nice oil stain in our driveway...perfect. They were supposed to be here on Friday afternoon but the previous job demanded more time but I was not told they would not be here. Superior Wood Care merged with Woodsavers. We were hoping for better quality. Our quote included pre-wash and the stain. We were scheduled out way in advance, and the office confirmed the day before. However, no one ever showed up for the pre-wash. Office tried to argue the individual wouldn't necessarily ring our door bell so we wouldn't know if they were there or not. We absolutely know they were not there - security videos don't lie. Then as for the stain color: I picked one color and was given another. The 2 stars above are given because despite the wrong colored stain, the workers that actually showed up to stain were diligent and respectful of our backyard, keeping it neat and clean as they found it, and the plants and pool were covered during the staining. read more

If I could give this company ten stars I would! When I called their office I was greeted by an amazing lady named Jennifer. I explained to her the problems that I was having with my fence. She took down my information and told me a sales rep would be out to my house the next day and sure enough they were! Paul (sales rep/Manager) knocked on my door and he was in and out in 20 minutes! Very friendly gentleman and explained everything to me on how the staining process works. I scheduled my fence to be done and it was done in 3 weeks. I am very impressed with the work that was done. My fence looks brand new because it looked horrible at first! The crew that came out was very clean and they took their time with every step. We hired Superior Wood Care company to restain a wood fence, Arbor and playset. On the day of prep their crew is there at same time a contractor is installing ornamental iron fence. On day of staining of wood fencing etc. the same crew totally neglects to cover brand new iron fence, dumps excessive chemicals in lawn killing large areas in multiple places. Big chemical spill near childrens' playset, coated iron fence with their toxic chemicals. Salesman came out multiple times to make nice and degrease iron fence. That was done but paint finish on iron fence is damaged. Salesman sends "his" landscaper to look at what can be done to lawn. A little granule sprinkle and they say let it grow back. Six weeks later we have very little new growth. Salesman also states that their "chemist" says their product did not do this but that our iron fence was prepped improperly. Their product sat on our iron fence baking in the sun till it was convenient for them to get it cleaned up. No urgency on their part to rectify the situation. Salesman did say that he was going to give me some money back for our inconvenience but that never happened. Manager Paul Hartwell comes out to see the problem. We are not aware of when he was there as he failed to contact us but chose to enter our property without our permission. He comes back at our request for a face to face meeting. He acknowledges the damage, sees the residual problems, shakes my hand and says "wwe will take care of this." He tells my husband that he will replace the damaged areas of lawn with sod, replace garden hose that was trashed with stain by his crew but would not do anything to take care of ornamental iron fencing. We advised him that we wanted to be present when sod is replaced. Hartwell has never followed through and we still have a damaged fence, and large areas of lawn that need to be replaced. We made two attempts to contact Tom Huemiller who owns this company. After leaving two phone messages to the owner, the manager advised us that he is too busy to talk with us. Do not use Superior Wood Care. They are deceitful and will not stand behind their work or take responsibility for the damage that their underqualified crew caused. read more

I used this company for more than a decade. The stain worked well for 3 years each time, took to the wood well, and the appliers were absolutely meticulous. Something has .... happened with this operation. Same owner and manager, but... the last job didn't last a year before the stain faded badly. It just seemed to wash off the wood. The worst part was, the appliers sprayed stain all over the house brick this last time, which is nearly white. Two feet of heavy overspray where both ends of the fence met the house! A year and a half later, the rain has weathered off most of it (makes sense, it didn't stick to the wood either), but it is still noticeable. Also, in prior years, the metal fence posts were wiped down and clean. This time, no effort was made, and the appearance was poor overall. I cannot recommend this company. It is sad because it was, at one time, a real treasure. read more

We had used them several times over the past 10 years to re-stain our fence and they used to do quality work, but that seems to no longer be the case and I would not recommend them at all. This last time we used them to stain a brand new fence and also to re-stain a set of faded shutters on the house. They didn't show on the day they were scheduled and gave no notice until the next day when they left a voicemail saying they'd be there the following day. They then forgot to stain the shutters. The crew didn't do a good job cleaning up: they left dirty stain-soaked rags laying around the yard and patio, they scraped their muddy boots off on the freshly stained fence crossrails, and they didn't take the time to hook back up the hoses they had disconnected. Even worse was that they got stain on surroundings that they didn't bother to clean up like the gate hardware which I had to go out and wash off myself, and also when they did come back to do the shutters they got stain on nearby roof shingles and brick which I had to get on a ladder to try to clean off....and even then the shingles are still stained if you look closely. The fence looked bad because there were streaks of stain that dripped or ran down the horizontal rails and baseboards and they didn't even attempt to fix it when they came out the second time to do the shutters they missed. It took several calls and another no show on the day he originally was supposed to come before their quality control manager finally came out and fixed the streaks on the fence. read more

Do not use this company. We hired them for our fence cleaning and staining, however they kept delaying their service delivery. The horrible thing was their service scheduling lady never informed me for the service schedule changes. Every time I had to call her to check their new schedule, and she would just say she would call me back this or that time, but she never kept her promise and never called me back. The only thing they did not delay was to cash my deposit check. Avoid this company if you don't want to encounter this kind of hassle. read more

Lots of attention when they were trying to win my bid, but once I paid the deposit it went downhill from there. Took over s month, and several phone calls, to actually get my appointment scheduled after giving the deposit. Then, they didn't show three times in a row and finally had to call the owner to get it finished. Once finished, I came home to find plastic sheeting still covering my patio, and my furniture in the yard or stacked on top of each other on the patio. When I asked if they were coming back, I was told that it's my job to remove the plastic and put my furniture back in place. Can't say I've ever had a "service" company tell me that. read more

Receptionist said someone would call back to schedule time; but they never called... they just showed up at my door. Luckily I was home. Took measurements for the job and said he would send estimate via my email. Well it's been 2 weeks now -- NO estimate. After calling them twice - he didn't have the courtesy to returned my call. This is the second time we used Superior. No one else we called would show up. They got the work done and before billing the final invoice, asked how it looked. There were some spots that did not take the color well (Color was darker then we thought it would be). We sent photos and they sent a crew back out and they added an extra coat. Noticing a pattern in reviews of lack of detail and quality of work. It is just stain and wood. How hard can it be?....this is why I do my own work as time allows. Sloppy overspray around the fence killed the grass...not sure if it coming back next year. Stained my concrete walkway, that when I called for resolution, they suggested I power wash it! I have called 4 times in 4 weeks without resolution or a plan. If this was resolved I would be leaving a much better review. I learned my lesson...Have all issues resolved before payment. Easy fix....30 minutes to lay drop cloths would fix all your negative reviews. But I guess in too much of a hurry to get to your next job? read more

I think my newly stained fence looks great. The color is rich and even and looks good next to our brick and painted trim. And I thought their prices were reasonable. The crew missed a small strip along the brick, but came back and fixed it right away. I would use Superior again. read more

We have mixed feelings about this. We just had our fence stained for the third time with this company. The fence looks really good......our yard, not so much. The crew who came to do the power wash was exceptional (and we called the office to tell them as much). They were so courteous and respectful of not just us, but our landscaping. The crew that came to do the staining was just about the opposite in every way. Not professional in their dealings with us personally, and absolutely not the least bit careful of our landscaping. We have crushed, broken, stained plants. We have spots on the actual lawn that are damaged by stain (the lawn does not run up next to the fence). They even left all of the gate hardware covered with wet stain; did not wipe it off. Again, the fence looks great; but the rest is such a sad disappointment. We have a beautiful yard that we put a lot of effort into. We expect service people to exercise more care. read more

I first contacted Superior Wood Care last year to stain a new fence. I was dealing with Jennifer and she seemed very unorganized. It took several attempts to get her to contact me and to set up a time for someone to take a look at the fence for a quite. After some time, I received the quote and the job was done. The second time I worked with them was late March for a stain job in a new section of fence. Again, I had to deal with Jennifer and again, she was horrible at her job. I called her the day before in Thursday and the crew was to arrive on a Friday. I needed a time that the crew was going to show so that my neighbor could remove their dogs. She said she would call late Thursday to let me know, I never got a call. I called her late that evening to leave a voice mail, never heard from her. I called her that morning and I asked her "did you get your voicemail", her response was "what voicemail". I asked her why she did not call and she had nothing to say. I asked her when the crew will be out and she said later in the day. I asked if they can call prior to coming out and she said no. So I waited and I waited and I waited. No crew at 4PM so I call her back and she said they will be there and will work until the sun goes down. I waited until 7:30...nothing. Saturday morning the crew shows up unannounced and I had to scramble to get my neighbors dogs out away. Jennifer is the most unprofessional and worst customer support person I have ever encountered. I will never recommend this company and will never use them again. read more
