She's kind, professional, gets to know me as a person, and she knows what she's doing. Dental hygienists can be hit or miss but she consistently exceeds my expectations (and I'm not an easy patient). The dentists that I typically (Dr. Schwartz or Dr. Kim) provide me all the advice and guidance I need, and I've never felt that they push me into any unnecessary procedures or add-ons. The practice itself is well-run. I never wait more than a couple minutes, I don't feel like they're rushing me through, and I recall any billing issues over the years. They also run a tight ship regarding covid procedures. I don't typically write reviews but I saw a few old negative posts and felt compelled to chime in with my experience. Dr. Gildenhorn was amazing he explained everything to me. Beyond the procedure I have to say his personality is amazing. He's funny and direct and really cares You can tell he is super busy but I would expect that from a great dentist. Thanks to him I felt comfortable and appreciated. His assistant Maria was a doll. She completely made me feel great and she was very personable. Her smile made me feel great to have her around. She's beautiful inside and out. The procedure unfortunately did not help but it was perfectly done. I have no complaints or regrets. It's just one of those moments where luck wasn't on my side. Since I was indeed in dire pain I came back to him for a check up. The X-ray showed nothing but we decided on a root canal because of the excruciating pain. He apologized over and over and said he didn't like to see me in pain so he asked to give me an appt to Dr. Tran the specialist for a root canal ASAP. I only had to wait a day for her to be in office. Oh man I cannot express enough gratitude to her and her assistant Jessica. I myself am not your average person. I like to show love and appreciation to people. My own way of making the world a better place one person at a time. And they were very accommodating to me. They even played my favorite music while I had my procedure to calm me down and give me a more comfortable experience. I'd also like to take a moment to thank the front desk staff members I met. I specifically chose this office because of Dr. Tiffany Ashton's credentials and reputation. As a Black woman, I found it inspiring to see another Black woman leading a successful dental practice and felt confident booking my appointment. The front desk staff were wonderful--professional, welcoming, and consistently kind both over the phone and in person. Unfortunately, my experience beyond that was disappointing. With my hygienist, I felt uncomfortable with the number of personal questions I was asked. As someone who is high-functioning autistic, I value boundaries. When I declined to answer one question, the atmosphere seemed to shift and the remainder of the appointment felt rushed. My interaction with Dr. Ashton was brief and impersonal. As a new patient, I expected more discussion about my treatment plan, preventative care, and what to expect moving forward. Instead, I was simply told I needed fillings. When I returned for treatment, I was surprised to learn that another dentist, Dr. Williams, would be performing the procedure. To her credit, she was kind, reassuring, and made the filling process comfortable. However, at the end of the appointment, I was informed there was a gap in the restoration that would need to be corrected later. I was also told to monitor for symptoms that could potentially lead to a root canal. What concerns me most is that I received virtually no aftercare instructions. Within days, I noticed significant spacing between teeth that had not existed before treatment. Food became trapped in the area constantly. I returned for a follow-up, which required additional drilling and additional anesthetic. Weeks later, I am still experiencing bleeding gums around the treated area, discomfort while eating, food getting lodged between the teeth, and bleeding when flossing. I sought treatment to improve my oral health and instead left with issues I did not have before. I understand that complications can happen in dentistry. What I cannot overlook is the lack of communication, lack of aftercare guidance, unexpected provider change, and the ongoing problems I continue to experience following treatment. Based on my experience, I will be seeking care elsewhere.

Dr. Michael was kind, friendly, quiet, confident, comforting, and honest. His wife works the front desk and is lovely. For me, Dr. Michael did all the work himself (unlike a lot of dentists where the technician does the cleaning and the dentist just pokes around). He cleaned my teeth, did some flossing and polishing, said that he didn't see any cavities and that my teeth looked good. He could have easily made a quick profit off of me by doing unnecessary X-rays or "finding" something like "a cavity" or worse... but he didn't, and in the process earned a loyal customer (and another good review on yelp). The nicest part, I think, is that there are huge windows in the second floor exam rooms with a little bit of a view of some treetops, the sky, and the street-scene. That and the classical music playing in the background made it almost as relaxing and comfortable as a dentist visit can be. The waiting room is simple, neat and clean with some magazines provided, and rather than trashy Jerry Springer -esq daytime TV blaring, they have the aforementioned local classical music radio station playing. The sign-in/sign-up process was simple and straightforward (just one page of the usual info). Getting an appointment over the phone was easy. They take appointments Monday through Thursday. I have Aetna insurance (which they accept) and my checkup was therefore free. I think I walked out of the door less than an hour after I walked in. The office is located in the second floor of an apartment building, they'll buzz you up. The apartment lobby, elevator and hallway were probably the worst part of the experience (they're just not quite as comfortable and slick as some medical center lobbies), but that is largely outside of Dr. Michael's control. There is metered street parking on Connecticut or Nebraska and un-metered parking on the surrounding streets (but don't park on Connecticut during rush-hours). Right across Connecticut are Comet Ping-Pong Pizza and a great local bookshop called Politics and Prose. Overall, it was a great experience and Dr. Michael will be my new dentist while I live in DC, I would recommend him, but I would also recommend the following to get a 5 star rating: 1. The apartment building trash-shoot room is in the hallway near the dentist suite and smells a bit, this should be cleaned up, or at least air-freshened. 2. For first-time visitors, it would be nice to have a little more signage out front as it's not clear that the apartment building also houses a dentist office (which is a bit unusual for this suburban Florida kid - apparently is more common in cities). I wasn't sure I was in the right place. Also, some more modern and directional (with arrows and "second floor") signage inside would be helpful. 3. The cleaning/appointment was so painless that I almost wondered if my teeth were properly checked for cavities. My old dentists used to poke and prod and scrape my teeth seemingly as hard as they could to try to "find" cavities (or was it just to torture me?). That was usually the most painful and least comfortable part of the visit. There was a lot less of that during my visit, and I think I would have benefited from more explanation as to why. 4. A plain, simple, static website with a picture of the building, the office, the doctor, and some basic info would be helpful (which insurances are accepted, what days are appointments available, a link to this yelp page, how many years of experience Dr. Michael has, etc.). It doesn't need to be slick or fancy, a basic squarespace site or something would suffice, it could even say that their specialty is dentistry, not websites, that would be fine. 5. They should add coat racks in the exam room so that you can hang your coat/jacket/bag where you can see it, and not worry about your valuables (wallet, phone, etc.). But like I said above, it was an overall great experience, Dr. Michael will be my go-to dentist and I would recommend him to anyone looking for a new Dentist in the area.

Until later I went to a different place and did the exact same deep cleaning procedure, which only takes me 2 hours to recover. The difference was too big! Plus, they did a filling to my right back teeth, which has been identified as the worst job ever. I had to redo the filling at a different place. Moreover, each time I went there they would try to sell me something! Their focus is on revenue generation, not customer satisfaction!
