Their sign is easy to see as you drive by, but my friend did give me a heads up that their door was not obvious. You need to walk through a fence and then open a non deacript door. The artwork outside is awesome! When we walked in we received a friendly greeting and were quickly shown to our seats. We had made a reservation ahead of time and there was no delay to seat us upon our arrival. Our server was friendly and took our drink orders right away. I appreciated that they had multiple non alcoholic drinks and at a fair price. I started with the Thai Iced tea which was delicious, but I would have loved a glass 2x the size! We ordered multiple dishes to share amongst us. I did ask the server how many dishes they recommended that we order as I wasn't sure of the size. The items are brought out as they are made, so we had food being dropped off to is at random intervals. The only slight issue we experienced was when someone else tried to bring a plate of squid to our table. We let them know that we had not ordered it. They then went and talked to our server, who brought the squid back to our table. We also let them know that we had not ordered that dish. Our server did bring back our order slip and looked it over, and I believe at that point they realized that we really had not ordered that dish and just weren't rejecting it. I am not sure if it had been written wrong, communicated to the kitchen wrong, or what but we did have to state multiple times that we had not ordered it. The rest of our dishes arrived correctly. The crispy chive cakes were great, and the sticky spare ribs were AMAZING. The caramel glaze on the outside of the ribs was so good, and they were tender as well. The outside was super crispy. I would absolutely ordered these again. I would say that both of those dishes were only for 2 people. The sticky rice and jasmine rice were as to be expected, and I personally felt that the papaya salad was not as good as others I have had. The chilli noodles had an amazing broth and I would also recommend. Overall, I did enjoy our dinner but I am not sure that I would go out of my way to return. I am rounding up to 4 stars based on the sticly ribs alone, otherwise a 3.5 would be more fair. I have been hearing about Takoi for years, so maybe my epxections were too high but I was expecting a bit more.

This was my first time, trying the yucky udon miso butter noodles, and it will not be my last. The noodles were so buttery and delicious and hot. The chicken karaage is so well seasoned and goes perfectly with all the items in the bowl. And if you don't eat chicken, the tofu karaage is just as crispy and delicious as the chicken and I do not love tofu. First impressions weren't great. The restaurant clearly tries to create an upscale atmosphere, but…read moreonce you look closely, a lot of the finishes felt incomplete or like temporary fixes rather than a polished space. It was also very humid and stale inside, there was an old-beer smell, and we were constantly shooing away small fruit flies throughout the meal. The service was also off. When I asked our server what dishes were must-tries or most popular, he seemed surprisingly unfamiliar with the menu and struggled to give recommendations. Our drinks took a very long time despite being ordered well before the food. They didn't arrive until we were already partway through our appetizers, and mine was delayed even further because it had apparently been forgotten. The drinks themselves weren't terrible, but they were very average -- more along the lines of what I'd expect from a chain restaurant than somewhere positioning itself as an upscale dining experience. Ordering was probably the strangest part. Recommendations are completely normal and appreciated, but this felt like a constant sales pitch for upgrades and additional dishes. It made the whole ordering process uncomfortable rather than enjoyable. Unfortunately, the food didn't improve things. We ordered several sushi rolls, crispy rice, a NY strip and fried rice. The sushi tasted like it had been premade and was honestly comparable to grocery-store sushi. The crispy rice had the same issue -- nothing about it tasted particularly fresh. The biggest disappointment was the steak. Our server really sold us on it and described it as being comparable to some of the best steaks in Detroit. What arrived was cold, very fatty, tough and extremely heavily seasoned. It was genuinely one of the worst steaks I've had at a restaurant, especially at this price point. The timing of the meal was also strange, with the fried rice arriving well after the steak. At that point we asked to send the steak back and didn't even want to continue with the rest of the meal. To their credit, the restaurant did remove a few items from our bill, which we appreciated. But we ultimately left and went to another restaurant so we could actually enjoy my wife's birthday dinner. We went in genuinely wanting to like ZUZU, especially after reading the reviews, but between the atmosphere, service, drinks, food quality and timing, we were disappointed in nearly every aspect of the experience. For a restaurant presenting itself at this level and price point, I expected significantly better.

We've sat at the bar a few times, but honestly, it's a great experience either way. As a vegan, I really appreciate the variety of options. The fried tofu has an excellent texture and is served with perfectly fluffy rice.
