    Forklift of the Pad Thai**
    David S.

Very, very good sushi place. One thing you'll notice opening into this super poppy to-go box, is that this stuff is some of the cheapest in the area but yet, they are bigger than the average roll. I mean look at these things, they're freaking huge. While browsing the large menu of sushi products they have, I tell the passive aggressive front desk lady I wanted a Crunch Roll, the Dutchess, and Pad Thai for my girlfriend. Total came up to 40 which was insane for two rolls and Pad Thai, at least considering everything we know now. Super cheap. By the way, as soon as you walk in this place, you wanna eat here, the smell of fresh sushi is truly attention grabbing. Back to the food, the to-go boxes took care of everything I needed to dig in. Unfortunately I suck with chop sticks so I impatiently balled with a fork on this one, so sorry if that offends you. Frankly, you can cry about it. Digging into the Crunch Roll, the mixture of every ingredient, the signature crunch that the name suggested, and the satisfying texture accumulated all into one intoxicating bites. Such a catchy taste and it feels quite original. I had high hopes for this place so as soon as I was done with the Crunch Roll I didn't hesitate to dig into the Dutchess, which was quite a raw taste. Not my particular style of sushi, but still very good. The cucumbers might've been what did it for me, I can't stand that crunch, yuck. I started to lose confidence so I quickly opened up my first fortune cookie, which lo and behold- It had no fortune in it. As the sweat drips off my chin into the Pad Thai that I was just seconds away from indulging, I saw a second fortune cookie in our bag. I rushed to crack it open and... "You should always rest, even when you don't have time to rest." The only thing resting is my jaw up against the floor after I tried this delicious Pad Thai. Truly a great chicken and noodle dish, and is still the only food out there that actually tastes the same when you put it in the microwave. The fortune cookie was right, I should always rest. But I would like to save the time I have NOT to rest, and go find the greatest food spot in all of Metro Detroit. I will find it, no one will stop me. I will not rest. 4/5

Note this review is from 02/14/2025 I'm not sure if it I always this crowded on a Friday or if it was because it was Friday AND Valentine's Day. Someone in the huge crowd I waited with said it's never that crowded. I really feel like if they were organized a little better the process could have went smoother. It took other customers waiting to start calling out the names on the orders that were ready before the staff started to do so and, even then it was kind of random when they would do it. I ordered the salmon on the beach roll and the rainbow roll and was told the wait would be 30 minutes...def should have ordered by phone. The waiting area was PACKED. They said they were backed up due to a huge order they were trying to fulfill . I was wishing that they had a double door because it was freezing, especially whenever someone opened the door to go in or out. I ended up going to my car to wait. All in all I ended up waiting a little over an hour for my food, the last 20 minutes in that freezing lobby again. However...My rolls were delicious! My favorite was the rainbow roll. They were both HUGE, I've never had sushi rolls that big. I was a little disappointed that I didn't get the cute little bento box but there's always next time. I would for sure go back but definitely NEVER on a Friday/holiday. Note: Came back a second time )and third and fourth, etc. lol) and the experience was so much smoother lol. I was the only person in the lobby. I ordered the rainbow roll and dancing eel roll and was told it would be ready in 10-15 minutes, which it was. I also got a cute little bento box this time. This has since become my go-to spot for sushi and the rainbow and dancing eel rolls are my regular order. I have seen some reviews on TikTok that may make me branch out and try other things on the menu though.

    Vegetable Fried Rice

I ordered the vegetable fried rice, they use frozen vegetables but the rice had a lot of flavor. I usually love spicy tuna rolls. These were huge and hard to eat. The tuna didn't seem fresh and smelled and tasted fishy. I really wish they had good sushi.

Tai Fai is hands down our go to sushi spot! I've always liked sushi, but Tai Fai takes it to a whole new level. I don't think it's the most authentic sushi restaurant, (like a lot of over the top rolls, deep fried options, cream cheese additions), but it's pretty standard from what I've seen from sushi restaurants around metro Detroit. Some of my favorites are their sunshine morning roll, sumo roll, tai fai roll, spider roll, Ferndale roll, dancing eel roll, crunch roll, salmon nigiri, crab rangoons, and miso soup. Every friend I have told about this place ends up trying it and loving it as well. It's just a great spot, fresh food, and friendly staff. They don't have seating inside -- it's a pretty small area with just enough room for people to wait for their takeout orders -- but it's super easy to place your order online and pick it up. They also offer delivery through DoorDash. They also have other Asian dishes here aside from sushi, but I have a hard time branching out to try anything else when the sushi is crave-able! It's worth every bite.

I ordered takeout while visiting the area on a Friday evening. I was able to place my order over the phone. The communication barrier was a little challenging given that you order by the food title versus a number. But after we got past this I was told my order would be ready in 15 minutes which surprised me given the fact that the parking lot had a lot of traffic of people entering in and out of the restaurant. Nevertheless, the food was ready very fast. The restaurant is only takeout and there is no dining room. You get a full view of the kitchen from the very small lobby. I was amazed with the number of people working in the restaurant given how small it is. But there had to be at least 10 people working in very tight quarters. When arrived to pickup my food it was found without incident I paid and quickly left. The parking can be a little tight. I felt like my car was close to being hit while someone was trying to back out of the lot. Now to the food: the presentation was AMAZING. The boxes that the sushi is presented in are beautiful. I've never seen anything like it for food service. The box alone makes it worth the experience of going. The food we order was really good. My dining companion had the Ferndale and Malibu rolls. I had the Philly and avocado role. We also had the curry vegetable dish. Everything was fresh and had great flavor. I highly recommend!

    Chicken pad Thai to go

Most recently about four days ago, I ordered Pad Thai, spring rolls, and some sushi from this restaurant and as always, they forgot something. I did not get my spring rolls and they couldn't do anything about it, not even a refund. Honestly, it's not even worth it to order from this place even though the food is good because they always leave something out of your order and they don't care. Very disappointed.

    Crab Meat Wontons Spring Roll*

I decided to try Tai Fai after seeing a few tik tok videos. It's located in a small strip mall and easy to overlook. I went on Saturday night and it was crowded. I'm glad I placed my order ahead of time because the orders were coming in fast. I ordered the crab meat wontons & spring rolls as my appetizer. Both were crunchy and full of flavor. I didn't care for the sauce that came with them but they really didn't need a sauce. The rolls are served in a beautiful box that makes you think of an upscale restaurant. I ordered the crunch roll and a red dragon roll. I was pleasantly surprised at how good everything tasted. I will be back and have already told my friends to give them a try.

Shrimp Tempura Roll, add cheese (right) Spicy Salmon & Spicy Tempura Salmon and Shrimp Roll (left)

Sushi was good but the rolls are a bit too big (I had to take 3 bites to eat 1 roll). However I do see more meat than I usually see in a roll, which is a plus. I ordered take out and food was ready on time but the lady at the register did not greet me with a smile or even a hello. I said hi and my name and she just pointed to the bag lol (that why I put 4 stars). Otherwise, I would come back here as there is not much good sushi spots in the area!

Avocado roll, Salmon Skin Roll & Salmon Roll

Salmon skin roll is my favorite, it's always crunchy and flavorful. I really enjoy the avocado rolls as well they are always big and fresh.

The food I'm not sure how it is because I had to wait thirty minutes to order then they were out of over half the menu everyone was standing around instead of helping customers. They way they got to talking their language that none of the customers could understand forced me to believe they were talking about their customers. Seems as if everyone hates their job I'll never be back

Tai Tai is only a take out sushi place. This is a hidden gem. Fast service and worth driving. Definitely one of the best place to eat some Japanese cuisine

When it comes to sushi this place never disappoints. Legit up there with some of the best of I've ever had! But today was the first time I tried the Chinese food and it was ok, expected better because the sushi is so good. I was so hungry tho that I forgot to take pics before I started to dig in.

It's little changes like that that elevate the dish beyond other regular sushi offerings. It was so appreciated! We ordered the spicy tuna roll. It had the excellent tuna and then they put yum sauce on it. That was odd because it masked the beautiful taste of the bluefin tuna, and that made it a miss for me. If you order, do yourself a favor and tell them no sauce. The dragon roll had real snow crab inside and eel and avocado on top. This also had a crunchy topping that I would tell them to hold if I did it again. It didn't really add anything to the dish and it obscurred the taste of the tender eel a bit. Not until I broke open a piece to isolate the snow crab could I truly appreciate the delicate flavor. It got a little lost inside the vibrant roll. The red dragon roll was well balanced and exactly what I was expecting. The bluefin tuna could easily shine on top of this roll. And it did. It was rich and succulent. The tigerlilly roll was lovely and topped with salmon and roe. It says on the menu it was torched. Ours was not. It was perfect the way we got it though, so I wouldn't change anything. I also ordered eel sashimi and the avocado, asparagus and cucumber roll for something refreshing. We all shared the rolls as we had drinks at the bar. Our bartender was attentive, friendly, and brought the sushi along with serving us our drinks. The lychee martini was a hit. What an interesting and slightly tart flavor! It was a light-hearted and fun time and I would go back in a heartbeat .

Service (4.75/5): Our main server was very friendly and gave us a good overview of the menu as it was our first time. They were great and attentive. We were also served by a second server who dropped off our food and disappeared so quickly that we waited a while before they walked by again. When we finally got the chance to ask for soy sauce and sauce dishes, they grabbed the soy sauce from a nearby table and left before we could even get to asking for the sauce dishes. Nothing terrible, but we did feel a little awkward. Food (4/5): Sushi was both good and not good. Of the 3 rolls we ordered, the salmon avocado and tuna avocado were solid; the proportion of fish to rice was great and the fish quality was above average from your typical sushi restaurant. However, the Tigerlily was quite disappointing, especially at $22 for the roll. The roll was torched a bit too long, cooking the salmon almost all the way, but my main gripe was a mysterious creamy sauce that was drizzled on top. The roll ended up being way too heavy and the sauce overpowered the salmon and the little bit of ikura that was sprinkled on top. On the other hand, the chicken katsu sando was really excellent. Chicken was juicy, breading was light and crispy, and the fries were well-seasoned. My only suggestion for the kitchen is to slice the sandwich vertically instead of horizontally; you can see that the bread on half of the sandwich was mostly crust/air instead of the actual bread part. Ambiance (4/5): It's got an upscale, modern feel to it that would probably make a nice environment for a date night or catching up with friends over happy hour. I was there on a Tuesday evening, so it wasn't crowded. There was music playing but it wasn't too loud, so it was easy to have a conversation.
