Replacement double hung windows from Supreme Windows and Exteriors
    Garrett K.

A+! We recently had 19 double hung windows replaced in a garden unit apartment in Edgewater and we are extremely pleased with Supreme Windows and Exteriors. The replaced windows were original -- almost 100 years old! -- with drafty seals, cracked glazing, top sashes painted shut, and letting in all sorts of dust, bugs, and sounds. With our new windows it feels like an entirely new home -- We have a clear view, the windows open easily to let in a breeze, and close tightly to keep the A/C or heating efficient. James, the owner, was incredibly knowledgeable, very responsive to our calls and emails, and was genuinely interested in making sure we were satisfied. He was able to find the right product for our situation at a great price. James kept us informed every step of the way, from measuring, ordering, receiving, and installing the windows. His crew was efficient and respectful, replacing all windows in less than 8 hours. I highly recommend Supreme Windows and Exteriors!

After receiving several estimates for the job, I decided to go with Supreme Windows. From the sales call to the installation, they were knowledgeable, thorough and professional. Additionally, I felt that James, the owner, actually cared about the job and my satisfaction. Sales Process -- Ron arrived right on time for our appointment. He was very knowledgeable about his company's products and service and was respectful of our needs and budget. I never got the impression of a "hard sell" that I had experienced with several of the other companies that I had interviewed. Instead, I felt that he and the company were very appreciative of my business and consideration. I had done some considerable homework on what window installation would cost in my area, and in the end, I feel I received a very fair quote for a quality product. I liked that I was provided a full quote right there at the appointment, that included everything (no nickel and diming later), with a detailed warranty. Window Measurement -- The following weekend, Lazaro arrived to take detailed measurements for fabrication of the windows. I learned that he would also be the crew leader for the installation, which I appreciated. Installation -- Approximately 3 weeks later, the windows were completed at the factory and I scheduled the installation with James. The crew showed up on time. The only small hiccup was that the truck delivering the actually windows from the factory was delayed over 3 hours. Apparently it had stopped elsewhere first to deliver another order on the way? The crew started with the second floor apartment and did what they could to prep and remove the existing windows while they waited for the truck to arrive. It was a windy day, and so having all the windows removed at once made a bit of a mess with debris blowing around the apartment. It probably would have gone a bit more smoothly if the windows had arrived as originally planned by 10am. Once the windows arrived, the rest of the installation went quickly and efficiently. The crew was very diligent about minimizing debris as much as possible, draping furniture to protect it and vacuuming each work area as they went along. One thing to note... I was impressed by the crew when one of them noticed that the tempered window we were having installed was not operating properly. They actually called it in and a gentleman from the factory showed up to fix it. Ultimately, this is probably something that I would never have known or noticed, but they cared about the job to ensure it was done correctly. The installation of our 40+ windows took two days. Before the crew left, James called to ensure that I was entirely satisfied and thanked me for my business. The crew cleaned up the work areas well, and the new windows look great. It's only been a few days, but so far, I'm very pleased and would recommend Supreme Windows.

We started the process in early January and were told the windows would not be ready until perhaps early March, but were pleasantly surprised when Mike said they were ready early. We would have had them the first week of February had it not been for the famous below 0 degree temperatures in the area that week. We had them installed the second week of February instead. Pros: -Received and had windows installed earlier than anticipated. -Took 2.5 days for all of our 27 windows and back glass door replacement. Due to cold temperatures, they worked one at a time so the house wouldn't get too cold. -was honest and fair on pricing and received referral bonus up front. -Mike always answered our calls with questions promptly and personally would come by to inspect and/or help facilitate letting his vendors in if needed. -You could tell the difference in drafts in the corrected areas from inside day 1. No further drafts and they look great! Cons: -4-5 months after installation and 3 of our 27 windows have leaks. We alerted Mike to this and he sent his worker to take a look - they said it was due to the trim on the outside that they didn't replace. Before installation, they indicated that it is not part of their services to replace. However, they didn't tell us before or during that our trims were so old that they would leak - we would have replaced them prior to the new windows if we knew this. We asked if we needed to replace them before and they said no. One of the windows that is leaking does not even have trim on it. When they came out to resolve, they added caulk around the trim and bent flashing for us for the front windows. The flashing should have been installed in the initial installation to prevent leaks. We are not able to get it installed until the new trim pieces are up... Even though they did not inform us about possible leaks, they should have removed the trim and put a water barrier in place before installation and before new trim was able to be installed. -Mike and his installers have a bit of an issue with taking accountability for issues. We were disappointed when his installers broke the interior of a window upon installation - it was safe to use, and they put cardboard over it, but the resolution took 20 seconds and Mike's installers insist it was somehow the manufacturer's fault. It took weeks for us to have this corrected, even though, again, resolution took 20 seconds. -While in the process of service correction for said window, the manufacturer was inflexible on timing and was scheduling more than a week out. Mike's response was that it isn't in his hands. No apology for the inconvenience of the broken window or the inflexibility of his vendor. -The manufacturing vendor cancelled day of (1 hour before). Reschedule availability wasn't until 10 days later. -The caulking the install team did had bubbles and cracks in some windows and just didn't look like a professional did it. When we told Mike of this issue, he said caulking is an "art" and his people are really just installers and don't need to be perfect at caulking. We personally feel that if installing windows is 100% of their jobs, caulking would be part of that job and they should look 100% well done. We had to redo some of it right off the bat. -Every issue that came up, Mike would just say he hoped we could focus on the positive aspects of the experience. It felt very dismissive. -They left aluminum scraps scattered across the backyard where our young children play. Cleanup in the back specifically was just not done to standards. We referred him to my mother's windows and they generally did okay, but did break one of her personal stained glass art by not being careful. No compensation or resolution was offered, minus an apology. We appreciated his team's work and like the products in general, but there is definitely room for improvement in the customer service department and potentially the product itself with the leaks. Considering part of his selling point was 100% satisfaction, we were left disappointed in that aspect.

Naperville Windows and Doors stuck out immediately to me with quick communication via email and phone, along with free in-person consultation. There were no gimmicks, no games, no pressure to purchase, and a full out the door price (no pun intended) with no additional fees that would come later. Other people I spoke with tried to put some pressure on me with timelines and costs, but I don't do business with places like that. Don and Sandy were great and easy to work with, timelines were exactly what they mentioned, and the day of install couldn't have gone more perfectly. Jereen came by and did an incredible job on the install, with beautiful trim finishing around the interior / exterior and sealing everything up beautifully. The work was also completed in about 5 hours which was very speedy and efficient. The pricing was right in our budget and extremely competitive with all other vendors we spoke with, but the level of customer service exceeded everyone else by far. We'll continue to do business with them for all of our door / window needs in the future, looking forward to working with them again! Best, Charlie

We did our best to seal off the opening with thick plastic and tape until we could get the window replaced but knew that wouldn't last long. One company we called wanted over $500 just to nail plywood over the opening. In the meantime, we called two window companies to get estimates for the replacement. The first company spent very little time and was rather short with us. They offered nothing in the way of covering the opening for the 6-8 weeks it would take for the new window. Then we called Naperville Windows & Doors. Their representative came to our house and took time to listen to us and address our concerns. Shortly after receiving our estimate (which, by the way, was over $1000 lower than the first company for the same window), Don (who I believe is the owner) came out to get exact measurements. When he saw the gaping hole in our house & our makeshift repair, he offered to nail the old window into place and seal the opening so we wouldn't be without a window for 2 months. When we tried to pay him for his trouble, he wouldn't take any money. Very impressive customer service! Needless to say, we chose to go with NWD. When our window came in, Joe came to install it. He was super nice & did a fantastic job! The window is beautiful & very solid. We were very happy with our experience with NWD and would whole-heartedly recommend them. In fact, we plan to begin replacing our other windows over the next few years & will go with NWD again when we do. Thanks again!

Jim asked us questions before he came out and when he came he knew what we were looking for. Jim's got a nice, low key way about him. He's been in the business quite a while and was able to make some good suggestions. He followed up and did what he said he would do. We wanted to preserve the old woodwork in the house (The Marvin window guy kept wanting us to replace it) so the three other quotes we got (Marvin, Pella, Andersen) recommended insert windows (frame inside the frame) which is what we thought that we would do except that the windows would be smaller to accommodate the new interior frame. We got quotes on wood windows from everyone and some vinyl. Jim recommended sash replacements, this allows for the windows to be almost the same size as the originals from 1922. His quote for the wood windows was a little higher than the best vinyl ones and lower than all of the other wood windows. We had 19 windows installed on the first floor last week, and let me tell you... they look fantastic! Gorgeous wood windows that match the original look of the old windows (minus the cracked paint, dirty storm windows, sticks for holding the windows up etc...) with a fresh new look. We couldn't be happier. Jim gave us a good price, good advice and measured carefully so the install went smoothly (and on time!) His guys were polite and careful around our stuff (and our great dog "Chaps") We are very happy with the result. I'd highly recommend D-Wing for your next home construction job.

When we signed…read morethe contract and gave them their deposit our salesperson (John) said it should be about two and half weeks for them to get the project started. After five weeks lapsed without any contact or updates from them, I reached out. They then informed us that they were ready to start the following week. Although weather caused an additional delay, communication remained sparse and unreliable once the work began. For a project costing nearly $12,000 expecting basic customer service and timely updates does not seem unreasonable, but D-Wing appears to operate differently. Issue Two: For our gutter installation we requested a larger sized downspout be used because of ongoing clogging issues. This type of downspout requires a specific transition nozzle to fit the gutter properly in certain situations. The D-Wing crew or subcontractor choose not to use the correct transition nozzle and connected the widest part of the downspout to narrowest part of the gutter. As a result, all three front downspouts extended beyond the gutter base, leaving a gap about two inches open and exposed at the connection. When I questioned D-Wing about this, they said the connection was proper and commonly used. I then sent them an example of the transition nozzle that should have been installed, but they continued to defend their method. After I pressed the issue, they offered only to bend and modify the installed downspouts (aka "Jerry-rigged") rather than use the correct nozzle. This response seems very unprofessional for an established contracting company. And D-Wing never resolved the issue satisfactorily. I apologize for being a little wordy, I was trying to be thorough and helpful. Hopefully, you all have better luck finding a contractor...Be careful.
