Sur La Table is a whole experience! Sur La Table was such a vibe! This class ended up being one of the absolute highlights of my trip to Jacksonville. My friend and I had the time of our lives, and it honestly felt like the perfect mix of learning, laughing, and connecting. One thing I loved most was how inclusive the whole experience is. Everyone gets a role, everyone gets involved, and you naturally end up chatting with new people. We met the sweetest couple and clicked instantly--it felt like we'd known them forever. Such a great way to build community while doing something fun. Quick note for anyone with dietary restrictions: I don't eat meat, and this particular class featured steak. They let me know that if I had called ahead, they would've happily made accommodations. So if you have allergies or restrictions, give them a heads‑up! They're extremely accommodating, which I really appreciated. We booked the Chef's Table date night class, and the menu was incredible. We made homemade gnocchi, a fresh salad, and a strawberry‑thyme sorbet that was a 10/10. The whole meal was simple, approachable, and taught in a way that made even "fancy" dishes feel doable at home. I left feeling inspired and ready to recreate everything in my own kitchen. Huge shoutout to our chef--he was from South Florida, and although I can't remember his name, he deserves all the praise. He explained everything clearly, shared a bit about himself, made everyone feel comfortable, and kept the energy fun and collaborative. His team and the store staff were just as amazing--kind, helpful, and genuinely excited to be there. Luis led an amazing class for us!! We ended up being the only 2 people to book a Sunday night class, and it made for a super personal and special experience. Luis was very knowledgeable, hands on, and engaging. It also felt very tailored to our experience level, as sometimes he would give more directions and less at other times. And, most importantly, the food was absolutely delicious. Our roasted chicken was so so juicy and tender, the mashed potatoes were perfectly creamy, the salad dressing was divine, and the chocolate soufflé was light and rich at the same time. I love cooking classes! I think on black Friday they offered a special like 10% off the classes so I went ahead and booked one for me and hubby! French dinner, something like that, you are paired up in groups of 4, and you all cook together. Thankfully we were paired with another lovely couple. We all had fun cooking, learning, and eating! I thought the recipe were actually pretty easy and I could replicate at home, and they tasted great! Ended up making the pear tart at home for the holidays! Fun! We went to Sur La Table as a group for the pasta cooking lessons and had an amazing time. We were with Chef Dwayne who was guiding us and educating the group on how to make pasta from scratch as well as two sauces and dessert. We made ricotta filled tortellini with pancetta and peas and parpadelle with a Italian sausage ragu with lemoncello sorbet to top off the meal. My son and daughter-in-law had a cooking class here on 13 February. We gifted them a $200. certificate for Christmas. The class was a disaster! First, it started 30 minutes late. There were 8 couples, the chef, and his assistants all crammed into a a very small room. They divided the class into two couples per station, instead of having each couple prepare their own food. Result - everyone's hands were touching your food. The menu was very basic. homemade pasta with a bland red sauce. The pasta dough and sauce were premade. All the participants did was run it through a machine. the steak was a very cheap cut of meat and the chef gave specific instructions to only fry it 15 seconds per side. The meat was still raw and inedible. Dessert was supposed to be gelato, but apparently the pans weren't cold enough so it had the consistency of soup. And to add insult to this fiasco, the chef said if anyone wanted wine, they could go to the restaurant next door and buy a bottle. There was no info beforehand saying you could bring your own bottle. I am furious that I spent $200. on a much-anticipated experience and it turned out to be a waste of money and time. DO NOT USE THESE COOKING CLASSES!! read more

I booked a class for classic patisserie... I am honestly shocked by how bad this experience was overall. I spent $89 dollars and over two hours of my time. THE instructor was very kind and very apologetic for what happened, I do not blame her. However, The chef assigned to this class was clearly not well versed in these recipes and was quite frankly not a baker (I remind you this was PASTRY class). She forgot ingredients, offered no tips or tricks, and gave incorrect instructions (the instructions are all verbal until you get the recipe after class). One example, a Paris Breast is supposed to be shaped like a wreath/donut and have the whole in the center. We were instructed to pipe a filled circle. Unsurprisingly this caused the center to not cook and by the time the center was barely edible, the edges were bone dry. It could not be cut without absolutely crumbling. I am amazed and feel so stupid that I paid money for this, I should have just stayed home. The worst part is when I submitted a complaint to their customer service team, the lady who called me argued with me! She tried to tell me the teachers are not set for the classes and implied that a baker did not need to teach it. While I am sure she is a great chef, the teacher herself said she is not a big baker. You would hope that this kind of store would understand the differences between cooking and baking. It was not appropriate to throw just any teacher in this position baking PASTRIES (which are notoriously hard)! And maybe even just a teacher who had made these recipes before! The customer service lady even blamed me for not complaining during the class. I am not a fan of confrontation and I did not want to make the chef feel bad. As if my feelings were not valid for being submitted privately and after class? Long story short she argued with me and made it clear that to her it was all about the money and kept insisting she couldn't refund me even though I never asked for that! She offered to extend the sad 10% discount you get when signing up for the class... laughable. As if I would spend my money in that store EVER again! Long story short: don't waste your money, you are better off trying it yourself. And if you want a store that cares about the product, don't go here. They only care about the money. read more

Regarding the cooking class only, because the store is fine. My wife and I do cooking classes online typically through AirBNB online experience. We've had incredible experiences where the teachers show us exactly how to replicate what they're demonstrating. And will watch what we're doing and provide feedback. So this level of interaction is what I've come to expect. This was a Valentines meal. It was a Steak and Lobster Risotto with a salad. Bruleed Banana Split for desert. Here's how the class went: 5 minute intro of the Chef telling a depressing story about how his wife was diagnosed with a terminal illness and so he needed to learn how to cook himself. All in all, he's been cooking for less than 2 years, and that he learned online. He spent another 5 minutes telling us the importance of sharpening knives. No other information on how, other than "sur la table offers it for $7". Ironically the knife I was using was dull. But he "loves to teach". So here's how he taught us to make the compound butter: "Everything on that board, combine it in the bowl". No instructions on how we should chop, or mince the ingredients. No demonstration on the best way to cut/chop/mince these ingredients. Fortunately, I have good knife skills already, but some of the other groups looked a mess. The other components of the dish we were given similar instructions. "combine x, y, z, and 1, 2, and 3 and then blah blah". Followed by 10 minutes of the class screwing around and trying to figure out if they were doing it right, because the instructions were worse than reading a simple ingredient card online. The steak of course, was the most insane part. Reminder, we knew how to cook already, so the lack of instructions didn't bother us. But everyone else's steak came out pretty much garbage. Imagine paying $90/person and then eating a sad gray steak that you ruined? The chef told the class some weird analogy about when the oil was ready: "When it looks like the st johns river in the morning it's not ready. When it looks like the river at noon, it's ready". The table next to us had the most gray boiled looking steak and then chef was like "ah, the pan wasn't hot enough when you put it on". haha wtf... For desert, we put bananas in a sauce, and then the assistant chefs took them and made the dessert. Overall - I hope you know how to cook beforehand, because this entire class is basically them providing you ingredients and instructions worse than a recipe card. Took the wifey and mama for Mother's Day weekend for a live cooking demonstration/ teaching class. They provide all the plates, pots, ingredients & food. Lots of fun. Chef Zaji is entertaining and a great host and teacher. Great friends hang out, date night or a great way to learn how to sharpen your skills to cook. It is $89.00 a person, so I wouldn't recommend taking this as a way to teach you 100%. That is an expensive way of learning. But is it worth it? I think so. My mom booked this cooking class as a Mother/Daughter date night, it was absolutely lovely. Loved the one on one time with the chef, and the quality of the food was great. Everything we prepared was delicious. Class was very informative and fun, chef did an awesome job teaching us. We did a surf and turf night and look very forward to going back whenever I'm in town again to try another class. It was a nice touch that we were able to keep the recipe of what we prepared. I am fairly new to Sur La Table but already I really like it. The store is in part of the previous Williams-Sonoma which had left a dutch oven sized hole in my heart. Sur La Table is great though. They have a large variety of kitchen and home tools for your home, food prep or cooking needs. The store is a good size, they have a good amount of items packed into the store. They have everything from pots and pans to knives, specialty food items, mixes, dish towels, aprons and utensils. Their prices are fair and don't seem to be overpriced. They staff seem to be knowledgeable when asking about particular products and are ready to give recommendations or to tell you why a premium brand is premium. In addition, they offer very cool cooking classes right in store in their cooking area which is visible in the store but closed off so that if you are participating, you get the full experience without the interruption of customers in the store. You can sign up in store for classes or call. The class schedule is available online or in store. If you sign up for their emails, there are notices for sales and coupons are sent to you as well for some savings. read more

I purchased a cooking class for 4. I've completed 12 classes at a local cooking school (Jaxcookingstudio) and never tried Sur La Table in Jacksonville. I was very excited to try it and share with my coworkers my cooking passion. We arrived in the cooking location. Our chef was quick to greet us. Instructed us to grab aprons, wash our hands and man an assigned station. Random People were paired in 4's. That's 8 people to one New York sized stove. Thankfully we had 4 guests. What is interesting about this cooking school is the assigns tasks and people volunteer for a task. Do you never really lean all tasks. Just your specific one. You do NOT follow a recipe. The chef just shouts instructions/orders to each group. While the instructions were okay they were not clear. We made homemade Pastas, ice cream and Chicken Parm. We made the ice cream first. Then proceeded to make pasta while one person made the chicken. The pasta was great. All guests started to plate our meals and guess what, everyone's chicken was under cooked. It was terrible. We had to place it back in the oven for another 25 minutes. We all ate our pasta and boxed our chicken because they were cleaning and it was apparent they were trying to start the next event. Oh I failed to share. You eat standing up. Yep. Chef said you eat like a chef who's in the kitchen before your shift. Wait what? We were not offered drinks lucky someone noticed a water vase at the corner of the room. I love cooking classes but rest assured I would not be visiting this location again unless changes are made. We were offered plastic containers to package leftovers. The chef was nice but i think the cramp quarters, the instructions and the feeling of being rushed I will not do this again. More planning needs to go into planning each meal so they are done around the same time. My guest did enjoy the experience but I can't wait to have them try another cooking school. read more

Came here for a date night cooking class with my partner, Zaji and Gabby were our cooking instructors. Both of them were incredibly personable and made sure everyone was having a fun experience. Very LGBTQ+ friendly, my partner and I felt very welcome by everyone there. There were people of all age groups, yet we could easily hold conversation with all of them despite us being in our early/mid twenties. We got to eat everything that we made, including being able to all bring home a to go box filled with food. Truly one of the most fun experiences we've had. We made pad thai and spring rolls. The filling for the spring rolls was pre made,by the chef, but we filled the wrappers and rolled them ourselves. For the pad thai, we made everything except the sauce. Highly recommended for couples and if you drink remember to bring your own beer or wine! We will be back for sure and thought it was well worth the price. I do not see a place to write a review for the online classes. This review is in regards to online classes. I DO NOT RECOMMEND SUR LA TABLE. First, they tell you they will send a link 30 minutes before the class. Second, they state no late attendees will be admitted. Third, they state no refunds. Fourth, when that link never arrives, you ahve no one to contact. Sure there is custimer service...that is automated. I am currently on hold for over an hour. Obviously class started and I purchsed a bunch of ingredients for nothing. This is the second conline class for me. The first was not much better. Unfortunately I purchased both classes at the same time. The first class, the instructor got ut to wrap one tamale and then left to join another class. Learning how to wrap and steam them were the reasons I wanted to do a class. Shame on Sur La Table for taking folks money without delivering on the porduct. read more

JACKSONVILLE, FL. Bought this for my wife and i to do a date night. This is advertised as a cooking class. Our burner was only turned on once and that was to warm the milk to melt some chocolate. THAT'S IT. The rest of what was cooked was done so by the chef. We made pasta dough and rolled it (3/4 ingredients and a machine, really hard stuff... sarcasm). We made 64 truffles and everyone (14) was served ONE TRUFFLE. Where did the rest go, you ask? We don't know either. We made prob 50 lobster ravioli with our pasta (the stuffing already prepped by someone else before we got there) but we were served TWO EACH. Where did the rest go, you ask? We don't know. 1. You will not learn what should be taught, you will learn the easiest concept that google could do for free. 2. You will have fun (that's right you will) but it will be at the expense of Sur La Table while everyone laughs at the absurdity of the amount of food for $79 per person and you seriously state in a joking manner where the rest of the class is going to dinner after (most of us went to Grub). THAT'S RIGHT, you have to make dinner plans after your cooking class bc you will eat maybe a small appetizer amount of food. 3. Over priced for what you are taught. Would be a fair price if they taught you all the things they make behind scene and had you not make the easiest items on the menu. 4. Our chef was great. I have a fairly expensive set of kitchen knives that were in serious need of serious sharpening. I took them to a friend that owns a restaurant, one look he's like these need professional help and here's where I go. A few minutes later I was in Town Center, dropped in, they took my 4 knives, and maybe 15 minutes later max, all done and now they cut paper like it's butter. I came into the store today looking for a knife to cut my steak with and had a GREAT experience. The person helping me was very friendly and, even though I didn't know what I wanted, she laid out all the knives for me to look at, described the details of each one and commented on her preferences. I didn't even know how to hold a chef's knife properly, but she showed me. The knife I got looks beautiful by itself. I came home tonight to try it out and I couldn't believe the difference. I don't know what knife I was using before to cut my meats, but it was always a struggle and I could never slice the meats thinly like I wanted. This knife cuts even steak like butter, and if I 'roll' it like she demonstrated, it cuts it without having to see-saw the knife back and forth at all. I was interested in buying a couple Instant Pot Duo Evo Plus 8qts (one for me and a gift for my mom), but after this awful experience, I will never set foot in that store again.
