    Arroz Con Pollo

My girlfriend and I stumbled upon this food truck during our lunch break on a rainy day. We were right downtown and this food truck is located right on the capital square. We got the arroz con pollo and adobo chicken. The service was very friendly! They have three different sauces that you can get for free. Highly recommend you try all three and find your favorite. The arroz con pollo is amazing! The chicken is wonderfully grilled and the cilantro rice is out of this world. The adobo chicken is quite good as well but the arroz con pollo beat it imo. If you are ever around the capital and want some good hearty food definetly try this out!!

Surco has two food carts now. The original at Library mall and their new one is placed on the intersection of W Main and MLK. They serve the same delicious dishes as their original but is now accessible to those around the Square, which makes it a lot easier for me. Their chicken con pollo, adobo chicken and chilli chicken are all amazing. Even if you just get their cilantro rice (large $8, small $6), you'll still be satisfied and still have excited tastebuds. And even though their dishes have a lot of flavors, there's nothing wrong with adding more of their green and yellow sauces. One of my favorite carts and now I can have it everyday for lunch (if I can) since it's a lot closer to my job.

The sauces!!! If you have been, you will know exactly what I mean here. If not, check this cart out and be sure to try all three of their delicious sauces on any dish you get. They have a green (mild), yellow (medium) and orange (hot) sauces available to self serve and they are absolutely fantastic. Pro tip: try them all and also take some to go! Overall the food is always delicious, quick and the folks running the cart are always super nice and helpful. They will explain the different dishes and sauces to you with a smile.

Lomo al Jugo ($10) -- missing fries, green onion and cilantro (not upon request) :(

I was excited to grab lunch here, since I didn't get the chance to try their restaurant when it was around. The menu looked great but seemed a bit pricey. I'm thinking this is because we have limited Peruvian options, so this is a specialty! I chose the Lomo al Jugo ($10!) -- which is strips of beef sirloin, fries, tomato, green and red onion, cilantro, served with rice and salad. The beef was dry and lacked flavor. My lunch was missing the fries, green onion and fresh cilantro the menu has promised. Portion was small. This is why my review has such little stars.. :( What I do like is that they have two home-made sauces available: 1) a green one, mild and jalapeño-based, and 2) a yellow-orange one, which is supposed to be spicier. Both have good flavors but not the level of kick I prefer. They also had a slight, creamy texture, which was unexpected but in a good way. I am hoping to try their other dishes. I've seen better reviews about their chicken dishes, and now that I think about it, realize there were none on this particular one for a reason.

The reason why I give this place 3 stars and not 4 is really because the dish was extremely greasy. The flavors were great, and the service was pretty quick. Plus, the staff in the window explained the sauces to just about everyone in front of me. It is a great place to try. Surprisingly not that cheap for a food stand, but I was happy to eat my dish outside in the grass on the square.

I've tried most of them and vary my choice with the day and my mood, but I never pass on chips and homemade ranch as the side! One slider, especially depending on who is making them, plus chips is usually plenty for lunch. Days like today when I can't pass up either the Reuben OR How do you say the name of that pepper - well, I'm feeling pretty gluttonous but it's worth it! The owner is really nice and really invested in her business. We have utilized Slide's catering services for our office Christmas party and she does a fantastic job with catering too.

This cart is bold. Really bold. They serve a variety of sliders, but bypass the familiar (and…read moreoften grand) burger slider. Even bolder, they hauled everything over to Science Dr., which can be a wasteland for like operations. They can get away with it because it is obvious, based on their menu, they step their sliders up a whole 'nother level. Everything (even the vegetarian options) read so appetizing. The dribbles were making my way to my chin. It would be embarrassing, but I'm sure they see it all the time. Their service was very friendly and efficient. My order was styrofoamed in two minutes. I was in the mood for Italian, but also wanted something spicy to battle my sinuses. I opted for two mix/match sliders and chips combo. The sliders were; "Powerball" - homemade marina-soaked juicy meatball stuffed with gooey mozzarella with deliciously fresh basil leaves floating in the sauce & "Italy on Wisconsin" -- a roma tomato and fresh mozzarella slice topped with the basil, olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Too finish it off, I had to snag the handmade thick-cut potato chips with garlic wasabi! The meatball slider was perfect old school Italian-American with a touch of class stepping it up with basil and perfectly oozing mozzarella. Even better was the incredible "Italy on Wisconsin" - AKA 'Caprese Salad on a Bun"; I never thought that it could work so well, but it was, so fresh and saliva inducing, I wanted more! Of course their buns are perfect (don't say that in the wrong company)! Finally, I finished with the chips. There was a massive mound of perfectly crispy, crunchy and salted real potato-ey goodness. The wasabi sauce was sinus-clearing and delicious -- the garlic was a light undercurrent, but added to its robust flavor. The budget gourmet lunch was only $8.00! It was certainly more satisfying than grabbing a Pop Tart from vending or walking further for a bland sub or a slice of grease-drenched pizza. You gotta have this. I will go as many times as they will return to Science Dr. I'm almost certain that I'll love everything they offer.

This is my second time trying their food -- the first was at the Taste of Madison and I had their Jerk wings. This time, I ordered their Happy Jerk Combo. I lunched after 1, so they were out of the stir fry but I didn't care. Paid $9 for jerk pork and chicken over rice and beans, walked it back to my office only to discover the rice was no good. :( I ate some of the jerk meat, and both pork and chicken were severely dry, minimal sauce and flavor. I thought maybe the heat from the meats caused the mushiness in the rice, so I sniffed it and was able to scent a foul odor. My lunch was an absolute fail and all my Hubs had to say was, "That's why we don't go there mon." Ugh. :/ I am giving them one star because the Jerk wings at the Taste were good and the guy working the food cart was friendly. But maybe not friendly enough to know not to serve spoiled food. Will stick to David's!

I just love the convenience of the food cart they have set up on Library Mall during the lunch time hours. In the few times I've had Jamerica I've always ordered the Happy Jerk Combo. It's perfect for the indecisive as it is 1/2 pork and 1/2 chicken with red beans and rice, so there's no need to settle on just one meat. Awesome. What's also great about this dish is how huge it is. Really, it's easily enough to last you two good meals. And these will definitely be gooood meals because Jamerica packs their dishes with Flavor. Capital F. Every time, I leave Jamerica a happy customer not only because the Happy Jerk is delicious, but also because they're always crankin out the ever-optimistic, breezy Bob Marley tunes. Nice slice of Jamaica man.

I haven't attended for a number of years, and I was excited to be back once again. This year we got there early on opening day. The weather was clearing, but there was a little rain still coming down. We decided to take one "lap" around the square to make a plan of attack for the many food choices. Fortunately, within that 30-45 mins, the weather cleared.... But it also brought a mass of humanity! The lines at all of the "blue ribbon" winning stands where extremely long. Pretty much a 15 min wait, which was a bit of a let down because we were heading to the Badger Game and just didn't have the time to wait that long at all the stands we wanted to try. I was also let down by the prices. Like everything, I know things have gone up. But $4.29 for a bottle of water? Come on... I'm used to these prices at many events, but why at Taste of Madison? Not sure if I'll be back. With each dish being $5-6 and drinks being the price they are, I'd rather just read the web sight and just go to the businesses that look most intriguing, without waiting in line and standing while I eat with a plastic fork. Maybe it was the day and time that I attended that led to the longer lines than I remember. This event is still something I'd recommend. The capital square is an awesome location for this event, and it IS fun to listen to the great music, and if you are going to make a whole day out it, the lines may not bother you.
