I was not sure to just review the carts individually, but like the Madison Farmers Market, I believe the whole collection of vendors is part of the experience. The food carts are all placed on the space between the Library and the University Bookstore. Lunch in an outdoor setting and fantastic people watching, occasionally even music. One of the best days I had last summer was accidentally coming across a mariachi band while hunting for lunch. And I never tire of the food. I can sample a new meal each day without trouble. By the time I go through everything available, a new cart is usually up and running and testing out the waters. The longest lines are always at Buraka, Jamerica, and Sukhothai (when they are there). Which is fine, because I can get lunch quickly at my favorites the Local Stanley or FIB's. FIB's used to serve a meatball sandwich with balls the size of oranges. They've reduced them to the size of golf balls, which makes lunch slightly disappointing but is probably better for my arteries. Be warned, currently the Library Mall has gaping hole across most of it where water main work is being done. And campus construction projects always last a long time, making a crowded space far more crowded.

Classes of UW students have graduated without ever seeing it, and when the weather warms up they can finally enjoy food cart heaven with a lovely water feature view. Lighting is significantly brighter at night now, and the little standing tables they've installed are great for when you want to enjoy your food cart fare without having to balance it on your own lap. In the evenings you might happen across a drum circle, fire dancers, or passionate students gathering for their cause of choice. It's a convenient way to cut through campus, connecting the Memorial Union to Memorial Library and out through to the southeast dorms and State Street. If you've spent any significant amount of time on campus, you've also likely spent a significant amount of time walking through library mall. Looking forward to the grass regrowing as the lawn is a nice spot for catching some midday sunshine!

I've tried most of them and vary my choice with the day and my mood, but I never pass on chips and homemade ranch as the side! One slider, especially depending on who is making them, plus chips is usually plenty for lunch. Days like today when I can't pass up either the Reuben OR How do you say the name of that pepper - well, I'm feeling pretty gluttonous but it's worth it! I was in the mood for Italian, but also wanted something spicy to battle my sinuses. I opted for two mix/match sliders and chips combo. The sliders were; "Powerball" - homemade marina-soaked juicy meatball stuffed with gooey mozzarella with deliciously fresh basil leaves floating in the sauce & "Italy on Wisconsin" -- a roma tomato and fresh mozzarella slice topped with the basil, olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Too finish it off, I had to snag the handmade thick-cut potato chips with garlic wasabi! The meatball slider was perfect old school Italian-American with a touch of class stepping it up with basil and perfectly oozing mozzarella. Even better was the incredible "Italy on Wisconsin" - AKA 'Caprese Salad on a Bun"; I never thought that it could work so well, but it was, so fresh and saliva inducing, I wanted more! Of course their buns are perfect (don't say that in the wrong company)! Finally, I finished with the chips. There was a massive mound of perfectly crispy, crunchy and salted real potato-ey goodness. The wasabi sauce was sinus-clearing and delicious -- the garlic was a light undercurrent, but added to its robust flavor. The budget gourmet lunch was only $8.00! It was certainly more satisfying than grabbing a Pop Tart from vending or walking further for a bland sub or a slice of grease-drenched pizza. You gotta have this. I will go as many times as they will return to Science Dr. I'm almost certain that I'll love everything they offer.

Eager scouts and their beaming parents will hand you a hot brat, homemade kraut, chopped onions, and all the toppings, ready for you to look out over the scenic view of....Phillips Blvd. But hey, it's kind of awesome! You're eating a brat. Next to the Pig "The First Self Service Grocery Store". Which is also next to a Culvers with a plaque commemorating that the first location was established in Sauk City (Whoa!). Well if so, do I have the place for you! Bandit Tacos & Coffee is a mashup of a few of my favorite things that I never knew I needed. While the tacos and Mexican inspired dishes and drinks are more focused on via the menu, the coffee shop vibe is the true essence of this space. The vibe is coffee shop that happens to serve tacos and margaritas too. The space is delightfully thought out from the seating to artwork, plants and even the music. We popped in for coffee and went with a classic Nitro Brew with Oat Milk and a Dirty Horchata. The drinks were stellar. I sipped on my cold brew for a while, and my buddy enjoyed his horchata. The horchata is fairly thick, so when he needed a little more coffee so he could get every drop they were happy to top him off at no charge. The menu offered a variety of different Asian cuisines that all looked very yummy. I ended up choosing the soy charbroiled chicken with scallion on white rice. The entree was ~$14 after tip and the portion size was very good. I was happy with the flavors and the taste. Will definitely revisit when I get the chance!
