Had a technician come over for 30 seconds to tell us he couldn't re-key the lock that day for whatever reason. No big deal. He told us we wouldn't have to pay for the visit. When my wife called to schedule a follow up, we were told we DID have to pay for it. When my wife told the owner what the technician had said, he cut her off, told her that didn't happen, told her they would never say that. Treated her with no respect. When they came back to do the lock, the technician called the boss to confirm we had to pay for the initial visit and this guy (loud enough to hear) said she was full of it, using all kinds of colorful language. Part of this tantrum included saying she was going to be put on their "list." Whatever that means. Total overreaction to a reasonable request. This review is not about the price - it's about the way you treat people. If technicians are telling people they don't have to pay for stuff, that's between you and them - not the customers problem. The key fob died suddenly so I called up Sure Lock & Key for help. The key is a 'high security' type that can not be cut like an old timey key. Kyle did a fantastic job getting the new key cut and programmed and he did it very quickly. Excellent work, cheery attitude, and the price is right. While I was waiting several customers came in with locks and keys, looking for help. Not eavesdropping but the owner of Sure Lock knew where the lock was used, noted that the key was quite uncommon, and then found a key that he got to fit. The lock was freed up, cleaned up, and the happy owner was on his way. This place has customer service and a can-do attitude that is rare to find - like finding a gem in the desert. I needed a replacement smart for my Toyota. I contacted the dealership I bought the car from and was told it would cost me $469 and take a few days to get the key and schedule the programming. I then called a few locksmiths and only one said they could do the job but it would take 10 days. I then called Sure Lock and was told they had two in stock and would cost $209. If I could give Zero stars I would. They started out very professional. The guy came out on time looked at my commercial building. I advised him I wanted the double deadbolt looks. He took inventory of what I needed and said he would get back to me. Three weeks later I had not heard anything form them so I gave them a call. The owner said he was waiting for me to get an approval from the Fire Marshall to have double deadbolt locks and push bars on my doors at the same time. I advised him that no one contacted me from his establishment telling me to do so. I informed him those are state guidelines because I am a daycare and not the Fire Marshall. He insisted I get something from the Fire Marshall. I called the Fire Marshall and he did not know. He instructed me to contact building and planning. Building and planning advised they did not have a problem with it but during business hours the double deadbolts must remain unlocked. But he advised the State regulation is the final say so. I called Sure Lock and Key back to explain that is was not an issue to have push bars and double deadbolt locks. He advised if something happened to people he would be responsible. I informed him I would sign a waiver. He said he did not want to do it and did not feel comfortable. He overstepped his bounds. He is a locksmith and not a building code regulation committee. He should have told me that in the first place instead of wasting my time. He is an arrogant, racist SOB. If I was not a minority owned business I don't think it would have been an issue. Had a really poor experience here. We are in the midst of a major home renovation and not of the crappy whatever ugly, ubiquitous garbage you can get off the shelf at big-box home improvement store variety. We're doing something unique which can make sourcing supplies a challenge. Many of our items have to be custom ordered. We came in here looking for some help finding a doorknob outside of the normal mass-production specs. I know that most stores aren't going to have oodles of products that meet this need but every other place we've visited has at least tried to help us and offered up suggestions. The man working here was rude and laughed at us. I get that most people don't share my design taste but I absolutely no patience for being so overtly mocked in a situation where I was planning on spending 4-5x (possibly more) than a typical knob set would cost. I went in to have a blank key cut. Yes, I had my own, more than willing to pay for the service of having them cut my blank car key. Kevin who apparently is the owner asked their Auto guy, Kyle, if he would cut my bank. Kyle replied no. OK, no biggies, I was disappointed in that they would not even cut a key as a service, most auto service centers will allow you to bring in your parts and they will do the install and change as a service. Well, Kevin turns to me and says nope they won't do it, and then very snarkily says why would they even do it. I am in my head saying, well you cut keys, all I wanted was to pay you to cut my new key. Very disappointed with this attitude and lack of working with the customer. This is what I want in a locksmith. Met every expectation and knew his trade well. I needed a key made for a new car. The car had chipped ignition keys, and I wanted a key to open the doors, but NOT start the car, just in case I locked my keys in the car. I specifically wanted a chipless key that would unlock my doors but not start my car. The guy behind the counter did just that for me. He didn't lecture me about chips, and didn't tell me corporate policy dictates they can't do it. I was happy and left as a satisfied customer. I had went to ACE Hardware right up the road and they refused the make the key. It seems Sure Lock and Key knows how to satisfy a customer, and corporate based ACE Hardware does not. This is why we need to keep our "Main Streets" strong and not always opt for the big box corporate powerhouses who dictate what service we are "allowed" to request. We knew the people who sold our house to us were weird based on many things we found when we moved in, but we got a little freaked out when one day, shortly after moving in, I tried to use my key on the back door and it didn't work. What did this mean? They had not given us the key to that door AND it was different than the one from the garage and the front door. What did I do? I called Sure Lock & Key stat to get all of our doors rekeyed. The locksmith came and did his work quickly and efficiently. He was really nice and patient in explaining security to me. I was concerned with having good locks to prevent anyone from getting in. He gave me a lot of information that helped me decide on what would be the best for us and reassured me as to the security of my house outside of an alarm system. He also explained that the back door lock that we didn't have a key to was probably something they did for themselves because it was a totally different kind of lock than the other ones. We had to replace the lock entirely or have a different key for it. We decided to replace it so we could minimize the amount of keys we needed.
