We have had Surety for many years. lately we have been having a big problem with drain flies or fruit flies. They have came out quickly every time I call and helped in eliminating the problem. Even helped me with ways to prevent them from coming back. Goid job read more

when I installed a ring camera I learned how long surety was actually on my property, less then 30 minutes a month. there were 7 bait boxes that had never been serviced, two crawl spaces with very old rat traps that were never baited or even set . when I had to buy my own traps and bait them after I heard something in my walls crawling around I decided to cancel their service and do it myself with much better results, $135 every 2 months for basically nothing being done.. don't recommend this company! read more

Other than the rude person, I've been satisfied with surety. Scott was with us for years and it was a pleasure seeing him every month, if there was an issue other than routine maintenance it was taken care of. Several years ago the area around the house was surveyed and any access points for rodents were secured and took care of the problem. It was included with the monthly plan. Fast forward maybe 4-5 years later, after a remodel it's time to check for access points again. We suddenly started we're paying over double for one visit every other month instead of monthly , I questioned the logic there but reassured me any issues within those 2 months I can just have it taken care of and it was included. Instead of our regular tech taking care of what Scott did, another tech was sent out and needed to schedule a second appointment for an evaluation (and maybe an estimate?) That's great but the month is going to be impossible so I just need the access points patched, and deal with what ever construction they recommend, which I wasn't expecting. Then I'm told there's a charge for what was included before and what I was told after the new schedule change. The staff has been really nice so no complaints there, but it's definitely not the surety I've dealt with over 8-9 years before this change. I don't want to move on but we'll see how this rodent issue is handled. I'm already discouraged by the decision to conduct less visits yet double the cost, but more visits to do what our regular tech did during the visit himself. I really hope it's the same local business that took care of their customers and not turning into a money grab to sell more services. read more

Two times the technicians have driven into my wet lawn leaving deep ruts . I called many times and asked them to fix it and was ignored. No return call. After the technician left I noticed a "no parking" sign I had there was broken off At the ground level. They seem to hire anyone with a pulse and zero common sense. Terrible company ! read more

Josh was great. He arrived on time, was polite and knowledgeable and took care of our wasp issues quickly and effectively. The woman I spoke with on the phone (sorry I don't have her name) was also great. All-around good experience and I would definitely use them again. We used this company to remove a large wasp nest from the backside of our house. Yes, they removed the nest and we are thankful for that. However we were surprised and disappointed by the mess they left behind. There were remains of the nest at the point it was attached, pesticide residue on our garage door, and dead wasps and nest remnants on the ground. I called company to see if it was their policy to leave a mess behind at their job sites and was met with indifference and no apology given. Maybe other pest control companies do the same half-hearted job. I hope not but in any case I aim to find out the next time we need a similar service. We will not return to Surety until all other options are attempted. read more

My tenants have been reporting sightings of dead rats, which is unheard of in all the years I've worked this property. I pounced on this issue, calling Surety immediately. The female rep I spoke to was condescending, presumptuous, and impatient.... Overall, she talked down to me like I was a child. When I described my rat situation, she dismissively said that our traps aren't ready to be serviced yet. Beg your pardon, but... if a customer is experiencing a rodent surge despite the presence of traps, then it demands further attention. Period. She made the excuse that seeing dead rats is a GOOD thing. At this point, I was only interested in an inspection for the buildings and grounds. I was cut off by the rep to be told that the techs won't inspect grounds. At all. In fact, most of her dialogue began with, "We won't do [this]" and "We don't do [that]"... making their scope of services seem very, very limited. She was resistant to sending an inspector. I had to insist. She finally booked me for the next week. She also refused to give me an inspection window/ETA, even a broad one, saying "You just need to accept whenever we show up." That is completely unacceptable. I only recommend you call Surety if you want your pest problem to be trivialized, or if you relish rude customer service, or if you want to waste some money. I'm shopping for a better pest control... I just hope my Super will ALLOW ME THE PLEASURE of informing these useless cabbages that we're severing our contract. read more

I have contracted with Surety since 2006. Service was always good, with techs who are fine people. Then Orkin bought Surety and it's been all down hill since. Formerly I could call them directly and always spoke with someone immediately. I called the other day about rodents in the attic. Now a call center answers the calls, not the local office. We paid for Surety to do additional exclusion work in the attic a year or two ago. They have always had a policy of returning to fix an issue. So I expected them to come out in a day or two. I was told that I'd get a call back to schedule. I did not get a call, so I called them back. I learned that they had scheduled a visit without consulting me about date and time. They set the date for a full week after my initial call. The next appointment they had was for 10 days after that. We have to be home for the tech to access the attic, so I made it work. This is after raising the per service call charge by about 60%! Which they had the nerve to advertise as a customer savings ('you only get billed for every other month service, so you're paying less')! Extremely disappointEd in Surety. read more

My mother had been paying Surety for several years to keep the rats at bay. As an elderly woman with no concept of what the company does and does not actually do for her, she's been essentially paying $50/month for imagined peace of mind based on the cheery reports of the service men that knock on her door to tell her all is well. The reports are always the same. "There's signs of rodent activity outside the house (um. duh. it's a house int he woods) but the traps are all clear, there are no rodents under your house, and everything's been freshly baited." They know this from opening the two access hatches to the crawl space and looking at one of two traps set within a foot of the hatch. I've been taking over her bills and general house maintenance. I recently walked into her home and was nearly knocked over by the smell of death. It was definitely something dead under the house. She called Surety and someone showed up the next day. He opened both hatches and was lucky enough to see a large dead and desiccated rat just inside one. He looked no further. He was polite and professional, but didn't do much but talk about how fortunate we were that there hadn't been a live otter under the house; otherwise we would have had to call Fish and Wildlife. The odor didn't go away after a day, so I strapped on a headlamp and wriggled into the crawl space. I found two large decaying rats at opposite ends of the house. The second trap the service guy spoke of was nowhere to be seen. I don't think a rat drug it out of the house, so I'm guessing that there's only been a single trap under the house and several box traps outside around the perimeter. Today, the usual monthly Surety employee showed up and sprayed something around the house perimeter and into the hatchways. I was concerned it was poison that I'd crawled through, but he assured me it was a "green concoction of essential oils that deterred rodents from coming near the house." It apparently wasn't much of a deterrent to the three rats that made there way under the house, lived a fat life, then died by Surety poisoning where they stunk up the place. The latest fellow claimed to have reset both traps under the house not knowing I'd just been under there. When I checked after he left, there was still just the one trap and he hadn't done any crawling, just walking around outside spraying with a quick opening of both hatches. His report was the same as it always is month after month. All's good. Some signs of rodent activity around the house (again, how are they sleuthing this in the woods?) but no activity under the house. If I hadn't removed the two dead rats, he wouldn't have known they were there. I've suggested to my mother that there's nothing that Surety is doing that I can't do myself far cheaper and much better. DIY wouldn't be ideal for some, especially my elderly mom, but knowing what little Surety has been doing with her very needed fifty dollars, I'm definitely pushing for her to drop their ruse and let me handle the rats. read more

So sad to see a capable, well functioning business go bad. Surety has provided service to our house for 10 - 20 years. Only had one problem over the years that I ascribed to a bad employee they subsequently let go. Over the last 6 - 12 months their service has gotten terrible. Specifically: 1) The forget to send us a bill. Then we get a notice telling us we are in arrears and they are suspending service. We spend hours on the phone getting it straightened out. The next month, no bill again and the problem continues. 2) Worse yet, they don't come to service our home. If we don't have regular service, rodents attack the wiring in our car (looking at you, Toyota/Lexus). Before we understood Toyota's switch to soy based wire insulation, this cost us two tows to the dealer and over $1,000. It is not, in short, something that can be skipped. Yet they continue not to appear unless we call and prod them. At this point, after months of essentially doing part of their billing and service scheduling jobs for them, we have fired them and moved on. If you decide to try them, put reminders on your calendar to call for a bill and for service. read more

Worst experience ever. I called to get a single service. They tried to get me signed up for a full service treatment. There are notes in the system saying I said no to the full treatment because I talked to the customer service rep and she confirmed. They sent me paper work and I signed it. Unfortunately for me I signed it and didn't see they still charged me for the full service. When I called to complain the nice agent said she saw the notes and was mad this happens to me. She told me the manager would call to sort it out. And call he did. He said I was a liar and that on my call I was on speakerphone and he heard it all. So I assume he hears every call ever made. He gas lit me, called me a liar, said I didn't say the thing that are in my account as confirmed earlier. He's a condescending disgusting human. I won't eve ever ever ever use this company again because of this man. DO NOT spend your money here. Who ever owns this company should know what a narcissistic dragon they employ. read more

We have been a Surety customer since 2015, getting their monthly service. Things were fine until recently, which happens to correspond to about the time frame when they were taken over by Orkin. The last time they came to our home was June 24, over 3 months ago. I called to ask why and when we could expect them. I was told that apparently the computer had scheduled us for service on Sunday's but they do not work Sundays, and that was why no one had come. I explained we needed someone to come now, and was told that the next available date was a 9 day wait. Then they called back today, and pushed it out another day. That is terrible service, but the incompetence of having their computer schedule service calls on days they don't work is only half of it. They did service at our neighbor's home last week with TWO service trucks, but never thought to go next door and get a home that they have missed for 3 months! I understand staffing shortages, but not incompetence. read more

We just started dealing with them, and so far we are very impressed. The initial inspection was conducted by a woman named Heather and she showed up early and was quite thorough. She answered our questions and made recommendations. We were later called by another woman who set up a schedule for us. We've used Surety before they became Orkin and after. We were pleased with their service for years. Moved away and came back after they became Orkin. We heard bad reviews after the change but wanted to give them a chance as they were always good to us. This last year of service has not been the quality it once was. They don't come when our service is due (every other month) then try to make up for it and come multiple times in a month. It's always someone new, they can't seem to keep employees. And most recently they came for our service and we requested they remove an active wasp nest from the peak of my home. The tech claims it's too high to reach with their broom pole and I'm out of luck. Apparently they can't use a ladder, it's too dangerous for them. When I called to ask what other options I had to get the wasp nest removed I was told I had no other options and they were happy to cancel my service. I agreed and called another company to get a new service set up. It's unfortunate. Think twice about using Surety. If they can't remove pests, what good are they? read more

I requested services from Surety prior to closing on our new house. There had been issues with rats in the crawl space at some point (yuck!) and powder post beetles so we wanted to make sure everything was in order prior to moving in. The house is surrounded by a crap load of trees as which equals lots of webs. I called and spoke to a nice lady and scheduled an appraisal. They were able to show up two days later to take a look at the property and let me know what they suggested. Well, I never heard back from them so I had to call and ask for the appraisal. A few days later I finally received a quote via email which I quickly signed and sent back giving the go ahead to start the work asap. Never heard from them again, and a few more days pass. I have to call them again to inquire about what the hold up is. Finally scheduled a service date. I was told I would receive a call the morning of the appointment to let me know a ballpark time. Again, never heard from them! I called to inquire about time and was given an estimate and informed that half of the work wouldn't be done until a later date. This was the first time they shared this information with me, a little bit annoying. The guy arrived and did his thing spraying and sweeping webs etc. Well when my husband got home he immediately had to take care of two large webs that were missed in plain site. I emailed Surety asking for a detailed invoice of what exactly what completed and mentioned the missed webs. In the response was an apology and he stated that he spent a whopping "15 minutes" sweeping for webs. Alright, obviously this required more time. I still haven't been billed. I will probably have to call them once again to find out what the delay is with billing. I will be looking elswhere in the future for my pest control needs. Not impressed. read more

Ended up getting rid of Surety for many reasons. We would constantly find spiders in the house. We had them install screens to prevent birds from getting into the attic but about 6 months the birds had already tore threw the screen and started building nests in the attic again. I had called to ask if they could maybe put a double screen on there next visit they said they could but it would cost me another additional $150. I didn't mind paying that the first time but not again. After they had sprayed in the back yard my wife had let the dog out to only find the gate was left open and we had to chase him throughout the neighborhood that was the first time the second time we weren't so lucky to notice he got out and animal control caught him(that was $50 to get him out of puppy jail). My final breaking point was after coming back from a deployment I had found we had a mice issue in are crawl space. The mice were tearing apart some of the insulation to try to get to the warmth. I really couldn't figure out what I was paying them for. I ended up just taking care of it all myself. It just would have been nice to have someone take care of it while I was not home. I had a problem at my house with both ants and rats. I contracted with Surety to clear up the problems, to close off the entry points (exclusion), and to replace the vapor barrier in my crawl space. After the work was performed I had some concerns with the work and I wrote an email to them. The email was answered with amazing speed, my concerns were discussed, and the manager himself came out to see if the work met his standards. He found a few things that were ok but he decided to send out his crew to do a little extra work. That is excellent service. I feel that I can rely on Surety to help me take care of my house so that it is clean and safe. I would highly recommend them. read more

We have contacted Surety twice, once for an estimate on attic work and another for a scratching sound in one of our exterior walls. While they could not complete our attic work they did inspect our crawlspace while they were onsite at no cost. We were lucky and didn't have a pest issue but they did provide info on a maintenance plan if we were interested. It was not high pressure pitch, which I appreciated. The second visit was the same. They were professional, had a quick turn around time on their scheduling and the tech who came out (Thomas) was pleasant and helpful. While they could have sold us something we didn't need (we didn't follow them in the crawlspace) they didn't and I would use them again for any pest issues. read more

I reactivated an my old yelp account just to write this review. So others wouldn't go through what I did. Surety no longer has any modern billing system - you have to pay by check via snail mail - changed all of a sudden in 2021. So, I apparently didn't pay June. Never knew, kept paying the months after. They never told me I still owed for June. Then sent me to collections. When I called them they apologized stating they sent me to collections by accident. They would or could not tell me if I still owed them for June, so to be safe I paid June and cancelled their service. Months later I'm still getting collections notices. I called 2/1/22 and spoke with Jess who confirmed I don't owe them any money and finally agreed to call off the collections agency. Strange they didn't do that when they apologized to me telling me it was a mistake, or when they cashed my check. Before I spoke with Jess, I had the displeasure of speaking to Vanessa, an unfriendly, unhelpful person who resisted letting me speak to a manager. Reading other reviews on here I see I'm not the only one with this specific issue - sounds like it went downhill when they got bought. I will never use Surety again, not in any city in any state. read more

Despite what the other reviews say, Surety Pest Control has been nothing short of amazing. I am a property manager for short-term rentals and I have multiple properties needing pest control. Our account manager, Heather Pedraza, has provided excellent customer service. Her responsiveness, knowledge, and dedication to her work shows through in every communication I receive from her. For one of my properties in particular that is nestled in the woods and were dealing with serious rodent issues, Surety did the exclusion and provided a warranty for a home where other pest control companies wouldn't provide a warranty for. Later on, we did a remodel and opened up walls and I thought it would be a perfect opportunity to have Surety come by to take a look. They showed up on time and gave great advice. We have had Surety Pest Control for several years. The last year or two we have had Leslie as our technician. Such a great service level we get from her! Leslie is always congenial, efficient, willing to do what it takes, and covers all of our needs. She provides outstanding service. And we were able to specify that we want our service after a certain hour so as not to be disturbed too early. Surety/Leslie do a great job controlling all or our pests here on Whidbey Island no matter what the season. We contacted Surety Pest Control based in Oak Harbor in May of 2018. We had a long-standing problem with tiny water ants or "odorous house ants" in several rooms of our Anacortes home. Previous pest companies were unable to resolve this problem effectively over several years. Surety solved the problem in 2 months. After making an appointment, we were contacted on the morning scheduled by an outstanding technician, Heather, to confirm the specific time. Heather is extremely knowledgeable & very professional. She called a second time to say she was available to start earlier and completed a thorough review, inside & out, including the crawl-space under the house & the attic. Although the appointment was only planned as an assessment/estimate, she provided the estimate & offered to do the set-up and initial spraying while she was there. She spent 90 minutes or more on our 3000 square foot home, covering every requirement. Surety charged for the initial set-up & perimeter spraying inside/outside. Then they provided weekly follow-ups, replacing bait stations where required, for the first month at no cost to ensure that the control is effective. The weekly checks were followed by reasonably-priced, scheduled monthly visits by a route technician. Unlike many pest control companies, Surety does not require contracts & will transfer the service to a new owner without any additional set-up fees if the property is sold. This ensures sustained maintenance so ALL pests stay under control. In June, Heather returned with the regular route technician, Larry, for the first monthly visit. They completed a follow-up perimeter spraying as well as replacing all the internal ant bait traps. In addition to the thorough re-check, they vacuumed spider & ant debris from our vaulted ceiling interior beams & brushed all the eaves before completing the hand-off. Both technicians were extremely professional, efficient & thorough. Heather assured us that if there were any unexpected infestations, such as during a repair or remodel, they are on-call to respond & treat the new area without additional charge. Surety sends detailed, written reports of what is found on the scheduled visits and the office routinely contacts customers to confirm the day of the scheduled visit in advance. Technicians confirm the specific time on the morning of the scheduled visit which allows maximum flexibility for customers. Surety Pest Control has had my back every step of the way in purchasing a house that needed pest control of bugs, wasps and rodents as well as doing kitchen toe kick abatement work, crawlspace abatement work, incredibly excellent exclusion work and helping me with referrals to other companies for things like insulation, etc. No one else would help me with the kitchen and I get anaphylaxis from rodents but they came out and helped when no other trade would. On the abatement work they were willing to take photos for my other renovation people of floor, electrical and plumbing damage so that the other contractors could find the spots no problem. Heather in particular has been a complete and utter guardian angel taking my health concerns and disability very seriously making sure to keep me safe. They've been organized, communicative, educated me as needed and extremely patient. I have them for my ongoing pest control contract and wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to anyone in a heart beat! :) read more

I just called to find out about getting an estimate. The woman on the phone was not very nice. I was looking for an estimate for our fifth wheel, because there are ants in it. She quickly said, "we don't service fifth wheels," in a snotty tone. That doesn't make much sense to me. Why can you spray at my house but not in our fifth wheel? So disappointing.. we have used Surety in the past and been very happy. This past year, not at all the same experience. We had agreed to a weekly plan to take care of rodents. Traps were set and then... crickets. No weekly checks were happening. They billed us and we called multiple times to try to find out what was going on. No response. When I finally filed a complaint with the BBB, lo and behold, I got a quick call. All seemed to be squared away and service was to resume (so sorry, we've gone through a change in the office, etc.). But it didn't. I kept calling and calling, and finally got a live person from an answering service. They told me the manager would call within 24 hours. Nope. Went through this same process 3x before I finally got a call back. Service did pick back up, but was sporadic (not weekly as contracted). The problem WAS taken care of, though, and we liked the tech who serviced our property. She was knowledgeable and friendly (just likely being asked to do way more than was possible - she was in a hurry!). Anyway, we thought it was finally over, paid the bill. Then I get a threat to send to collections a couple of months later, even though I have a cancelled check as proof of payment. Now it actually HAS been sent to collections and I can't get anybody to answer the phone... again. Horrible, horrible experience! read more

We signed up for an annual contract at $50 a month. Have watched on our home cameras the reps come out and do a completely half-assed job. Next thing I know I get a bill for $85 a month. Thinking this is a mistake, I call Surety. SUPER rude and defensive customer rep explains they are having a staffing shortage and have had to cut down their service dates to HALF what they used to - so then I'm thinking - I'm paying for half the service but you've increased the price by 70%??!! She then explains that also "things are more expensive" - what "things?" the mop the guy uses to wipe down spider nests in his half-assed job? I tell her that is ridiculous and she gets defensive and says "don't you know businesses that are having staffing issues?" I respond and say "sure I do - everywhere - but that doesn't mean you cut the service in half and increase prices by 70%. That is YOUR operational issue, not your customer's fault." So she HANGS UP on me. Good luck Surety! Your ratings reflect your intelligence. read more

We have been with them for quite a few years now,relapsed in a payment due to the Chase credit card problem when we found out we immediately paid,it had been two months and they will not reinstate us Ed without a $350 service fee. No inspection is need & we have had to recall Them several times to redo, they failed to properly treat the problem. They are not customer friendly & expensive. read more

We recently bought a house and wanted an inspection done. They were out here promptly and sprayed around the house. The house was not occupied for a while so we had a lot of rodent activity under the house and a lot of spiders. Since the initial inspection we have not seen much activity. They have been out here about once a week checking up on the rodent problem since the initial visit and every time I am given an update on the house and what activity has been seen. It's also nice that they knock down any spider webs when they inspect. The staff is very knowledgable and professional and the price is the same as other places I've called. I would highly recommend Surety. read more

The technicians they have sent out are very thorough and always let us know their findings at the end of the visit. The office calls several days ahead of time to schedule. As long as you're prepared to have them repeatedly show up to your house unannounced during your service contract with them then all should be fine. True, they took care of the mouse problem we had but despite my repeated requests they absolutely cannot be bothered to call ahead before sending someone over to the house. These people show up at random times expecting to be let in without any heads up. I work odd hours and have to take my sleep where I can get it, more than once I've been woken up by one of their workmen clattering around right outside my window while I'm in bed. It's unsettling at best. read more

Not recommended for rental properties. The issue is that Surety steadfastly refuses to schedule service visits with any more accuracy than "morning" or "afternoon". I live 20 minutes from my rental, which means I need to start driving 20 minutes before their "morning" begins so I can be there to let them in if they showed up first thing. But typically, I get to sit in my car waiting for them to show up at some random time before the "afternoon" begins. After using them for over a year, this random waste of their customer's time has finally become a show-stopper for me, and I am a customer no more. When a serviceman does show up, they do their job well. If you can live with their scheduling limitations, you will probably do OK. I can't anymore though. read more

We called out two different companies to give us an estimate. Our house is about 5000 sq ft. so we wanted a plan and estimate to fit our house. Company A gave us a "this is what we do for all houses" and it took them about 10 mins. Surety Pest came out and spent over an hour and gave us a plan for our house. They also took the time and looked where we were concerned. Yesterday the did the extensive work at finding and filling all holes around the house. The company has been one time and followed through with all appointments. We have nothing bad to say, its a good pest control company with nice workers that will explain what they are doing. read more

We used Surety a number of years ago on a family house that had been neglected. They took care of dead rodents under the house and made sure all was in order before we sold that house. When we built a new house in the community near Langley, we (of course) used them again for our monthly service. For the past two years they've come monthly and made sure we were rodent free. A couple of weeks ago we found a very large hornet's nest in an area not easily visible. Gary Smith made two separate trips and got rid of the nest....for no additional charge. I am visiting my parents on Whidbey Island and learned of an inexcusable situation that occurred this past Dec. My parents had been using Surety for their pest control needs. Apparently the billing dept. could not figure out that my parents had already paid their bill and rebilled them. They called and the company assured them it would be taken care. The next month the same thing happened. They called again and were assured that it would be taken care of. Their bill had a final notice sending to collection sticker on it this time. (This whole affair began in August 2012 ). The company sent a letter trying to explain why they were inept and suggested that it was my parent's fault for not putting their acct number in the "top left hand corner". Even if this was the case, as a business you do not operate this way. You admit it was your fault, fix it, and don't let it happen again. This letter was sent in Dec 2012.
