We randomly stumbled upon Surf Bar on a winter evening in Williamsburg. The space immediately teleports you to a beachy island from their surfboard ceiling to aquariums to the sandy floors. The real sand floor makes this so fun and unique as if you're really at the beach. It's a combination of a dive bar meets beach shack with tiki drinks. We came for a drink, which you scan a QR code for the menu. They don't have physical menus as my WiFi wasn't working too well in here, but they gave me the WiFi password to access. I ordered the Hibiscus Margarita ($15), which was ok. I think frozen would've been tastier than on the rocks, but it was too cold. The fiancé's Bushwacker ($15) tiki cocktail was good though and came in a fun tiki cup. Definitely recommend the tiki cocktails here. They also have a covered outdoor patio that is also covered in sand. Seems like the perfect spot for a frozen tiki cocktail on a hot summer day, though they really made the best of it even in the winter. read more

There are many good tiki bars in New York City, but Surf Bar is the only one I know with sand on the floors that makes you feel like you're at the beach. The surfboards hanging from the ceiling and over all tiki aesthetic makes Surf Bar perfect for even the coldest winter day. The backyard feels like a different world than urban Williamsburg and they always have a beach movie playing in the back. I've seen Elvis beach bum classics, Surf's Up, and Jaws to name a few. The 13" CRT in the front room was playing Magnum, P.I. reruns. which goes nicely with the fish tanks. Service-wise, the waiters are always attentive and get you started with water for the table and drinks right away. The bartender is always nice to speak to and gave me some recommendations on drinks I haven't tried yet. Of the food options, I wish the main entrees weren't so expensive, which is why I never get them, but the apps are great and I can't come here without getting the calamari. But you don't come to tiki bars for the food, you come for the drinks. They make all their stuff in front of you with fresh fruit and you can't go wrong. The Gorilla Milk is a personal favorite but you can't go wrong with a classic Painkiller, Fogcutter, or Hurricane. The tiki drinks all come in the classic tiki glass with the iconic umbrella and slice of pineapple. All in all, this is one of my favorite bars when looking for something unique. read more

Been coming here for close to a decade and it's good to know that the sand is still on the floors and even better knowing that the menu has maintained so much quality. Came here around brunch, but opted for lunch as I can't say no to crab cakes. The drinks here are really good. The margaritas are stellar here, but wanted a more tiki vibe. The zombie here is very good. VERY boozy, but very good and you can't be mad at the fun tiki glasses. I'm really glad that the server told us about the grilled shrimp over mango avocado salad with tostones. YUM. Perfectly seasoned and grilled shrimp with a great medley of fresh flavors and a wonderous sauce. The crab cakes were delicate and tasty. Packed full of crab and paired well with their aioli. Ended up spreading it on everything. The chicken skewers were a great addition to the meal. Great cuts of chicken with the Peruvian sauce to dip. It had a bit of heat! Both the chicken and the sauce both had a nice bright heat. I'm so glad Surf Bar exists and still is a unique place to stop over for a drink or an appetizer in Williamsburg. Stumbled upon this fun, hole-in-the-wall tiki bar with sandy floors. The frozen drinks were yummy. We did two Miami Vice, good to share with 3 people. The frozen margarita was also pretty good. Food-wise was surprisingly good. The PEI mussels were so garlicky and delicious. There were also hand-cut fries that were skinny and crunchy. The music was so calming a mix of top 70s and 80s hit. It was like the best songs of Lite fm radio station if that makes sense. I ordered the ceviche, and it was good. My friends did not disappoint me taking me here as the first stop for my belated birthday party How do you feel like you are experiencing the beach on a tropical island when you are landlocked in Williamsburg? The answer is come here There is sand on the floor, shells and nautical items on the wall, bamboo tables and surfboard abound. Staff was very nice while we waited a half an hour for our friends to arrive. They brought us water while we waited to order. The drink were nice and strong, at least the ones I had. I keep switching between the Zombie with the 151 float and the Painkiller. To eat I had the coconut shrimp which was good. My friends each ordered shrimp tacos which they seemed to like. So came out this restaurant to celebrate some birthdays. The birthday girl wanted a chill vibe with good food. The menu has more drinks then food but the food we ordered was good. We had the coconut shrimp to start I just say it could of used a little salt for me but very tasty. Then we had the shrimp tacos and the steak and the Mahi Mahi burger. The steak was tender and flavorful and comes with a huge bed of fries. The fires were delish and even tasted great cold !!! The mahi mahi burger was fresh and soft and had a light flavor to it. Mahalo Surf Bar! . This place has been on my list for a long time and I finally got here on a Saturday early evening. This bar/restaurant has an awesome Hawaiian beach theme with sand on the floors in side the bar and a back courtyard with all sand with beach tables and umbrellas and palm trees giving you that full beach vibe! . We went here mostly for the awesome vibe not expecting much from the food but was very surprised when the grilled burger came out cooked perfect and tasted amazing and the mahi mahi burger was really good too! I will say the sweet potato fries are better than the regular fries. For a drink we shared the 2 ppl Miami Vice and it was delicious but a little bit on the weaker side. . I want to express how I'm a big tiki bar girl. It's one of my favorite atmospheres to be in. So I'm really really bummed to say I really hated the drinks here. You go in and it seems pretty cool. Sandy floors and surfboards in the ceilings. Kinda made me feel like I found my spot for the night. To say I was highly disappointed is an understatement. The service was not great. The drinks we ordered was from there tiki selection. A zombie and a painkiller. Both being fairly priced at 16 dollars for a decent tiki drink. We received two red water cups with our drinks. I think it's fair to say the best part of a tiki bar outside of the tropical vibes and flavors are the cups. That being said I'm like hey it's a drink I don't need to be that girl. Then we tried them... I hate saying it was the worst drinks I've had all year. Not even remotely close to the drinks we ordered is why I'm making a review. It's just really awful and kind of a bummer. We did let our bartender know and had a awkward interaction so we ultimately left. Second time eating in this place and was pretty good. The service was good. I don't remember our waiter's name, but he was sweet and patient. He returned my plate with no problem after I forgot to exclude an ingredient on my plate. I appreciated this because some waiters in other spots tend to look at you crazy. The food was yummy. My partner didn't enjoy his steak because it was well-done. He didn't think it was going to be that cooked, so if you don't like dry then don't order well-done because they definitely cook it welllll! The scorpion bowl was sooo strong, but definitely worth the money! Cocktails are about $13 or $15. The waiter suggested we're better off ordering the scorpion bowl in terms of money and liquor. Went to this restaurant/bar for the first time on a Friday night with 2 friends. It was pretty busy, though we were able to get a table within 10 minutes. (The server at the front, however, wasn't sure of what she was doing and would leave us in the middle of her sentences to ask someone how to handle the line.) The entire floor of the bar is covered in sand. I was wearing sandals, so it wasn't too bad, but be sure to wear proper footwear in here. When we were seated, no physical menus were given; instead, we scanned a QR code on our phones to access the menu. I ended up ordering the tacos al pastor, surf bar fries (with honey and sea salt), and a Miami Vice bowl to share. The tacos were amazing with decent portions (3 was definitely enough to fill me up). The fries were surprisingly addictive since I had originally been hesitant about honey on fries. The only part I was a little disappointed in was the Miami Vice bowl. It's supposed to be a mixture of Pina Colada and Strawberry Daiquri, but it tasted more like a Pina Colada throughout with hints of strawberry only towards the end of the drink. We decided to come here for dinner it seemed dope never been here before. They had out door seating in the back and front, I honestly think the front would have been better because when you sit at the back there a big ac that sucks up all the air and makes it more hot in the back where we decided to sit. Also the table we sit at which was a red table felt sticky we asked to get it cleaned it still felt sticky. The feeling went away when the table got filled with food and drinks. Fun fact there was sand through out the restaurant, it was cool but I had on slides and wasn't ready to get sand on my feet. Next time I know to wear closed toe shoes. Contact less menus were available, scan and download. After a quick search on Yelp I decided to try the ceviche and yucca fries and mango melon mojito...that mojito was nice I was nice off of one but another one wouldn't hurt. I actually never had ceviche before but that was delicious I needed more chips for the ceviche. The yucca wasn't the greatest but still edible and I didn't like the sauce it came with it tasted like fresh made tomato sauce and I don't like ketchup on my fries. The French fries was crunchy I believe they had corn syrup on them they were a bit sweet but it wasn't my dish and I didn't taste the burger but my friend said it was good. Since my initial first visit I found this place to be quite nice ... figured it was time for an update! Since COVID the menu has shrunk now that's not completely a bad thing but they did get rid of some good basic dishes that I wasn't too thrilled to notice we're gone no more calamari or yuca fries bummer! Seems like they are focusing more on a seafood menu w very little other options. Drinks are decent , Frozen margaritas , mojito & piña colada are good. An islet in the heart of Williamsburg. This low-key island shack entrance reminded me of the white, fine beaches of Boracay. The floor is covered with sand all the way to their backyard seating area. Had the rudest host and server who kept harassing us to order food at 11 pm on a Friday night when we were there for drinks only (it's Surf BAR...). The host and server kept hounding us to order food, was glaring at my group the entire time and asked us to leave in the most angry voice in the middle of our first round of drinks when the place was half empty. There were multiple tables around us that were there just for drinks as well and they weren't harassed into getting food or leaving. It felt very targeted as we were the only POC customers. I never leave reviews but this was such a horrendous experience. Never ever coming back here again.
