Surf Brothers is a teriyaki shop with locations in Carlsbad, Escondido, and this location in Encinitas. They mainly serve proteins on a bed of rice with salad, and they also have chicken sliders for a good price (3 for $6.99). We ordered the steak plate ($15.29) which came out pretty quickly. The meat was a little dry with not enough of the teriyaki dipping sauce to help with the dryness/toughness. The rice was mushy and slightly wet which didn't have great texture. The slaw was just okay.

Really enjoyed the meal. The workers friendly and place was clean. To start couldnt decide so ordered combo $14.99. The colesaw was fair. Terriyaki sauce sets off the chicken & beef. The white rice hot and sticky perfect for this meal! Id come back! Hours all week 10:30am until 8pm.

My boyfriend and I were going to a wine tasting event at Total Wine & More, and it started at around dinner time (6:30pm). We wanted to grab something to eat before going and found this "fast food" restaurant around the area with cheap prices! The location that we went to is located next to Roberto's Mexican Food in the Camino Village Plaza, closer to Via Montoro street area into the plaza, on El Camino Real in Encinitas. There's ample parking around the area. My boyfriend and I both got their Chicken Sliders (x3), substituting the rice with their salad (more of a coleslaw). And wow, the price for the amount of food was unbeatable! For 3 sliders and a side of either rice or coleslaw (supposedly salad), this was a HUGE steal for only $6.99! The sweet bread was very soft, indicating their freshness, and there was a surprisingly good amount of chicken that was made to look like kalua pork sliders. There was also more coleslaw in the sliders. So lots of veggies! The flavor was okay. Thought it could be a little better with maybe a hint of smokiness to the chicken but still a delicious, easy meal. The coleslaw was quite good, though, especially with the balsamic vinegar dressing they provided on the side. Overall, a great easy, cheap spot to stop by for a quick big meal. They have other Hawaiian styled recipes that seemed really good as well!

Their chicken sliders were surprisingly good. At first glance it does not seem like much but the chicken was moist and the buns were soft. Great deal for what you get. I highly recommend it!

Local to Encinitas and finally decided to give this place a try. Chicken was not bad but the portion they give for the chicken was really disappointing for almost 20$. I would maybe try this place one more time as I really wanna support the local business.

Great prices, easy, no frills. Service was fast and efficient. Did quick takeout one day and ordered a few things. Everything tasted good, the teriyaki sauce was great. The sliders are delicious and only $1.60 each. Quality is not the best, understandable given the cheap price. The place is clean and staff were very nice.

One of my favorite places Da Kine didn't make it through the pandemic, but Surf Brothers was able to satiate my Hawaiian teriyaki craving. I loved that their menu was super simple - chicken, beef, or for those who can't decide, combo. The plate comes with rice (extra 30 cents for brown rice) and slaw. I preferred the chicken over the beef. The chicken just felt like there was more substance and was better able to absorb the teriyaki sauce and flavor. The beef was sliced thinly, so I was craving a more meaty bite. One other thing I wished was for macaroni salad, but the slaw was refreshing. Overall solid BBQ and great value

Ask the Community - Surf Brothers Teriyaki

Looking at the catering menu. What's the difference with little bro veggie versus veggie a La carte? If I say salad only for the little bro, do I get more coleslaw or just no rice but same portion?Best coleslaw I ever had.

Hello! The Big Bro Veggie comes with rice and salad for 10 guests and the Veggies for 10 guests. The Veggie A La Carte only comes with the Veggies. I hope this helps!

(Tasted standard and zero fishy taste), spicy Krab (eh, it adds some creamy goodness to the bowl, and seared tuna (again fresh tasting). I got the various mix in and my bowl was just loaded up! Butterfly shrimp: tasty snack that goes well with the spicy mayo dip. Reasonable at about $1 per shrimp which were crispy without being battered to hell and back. Seaweed salad: again they filled the container! For whatever reason this once cheap dish has gone up in price drastically the past few years, and here you get a really generous amount! Yay! Others in my group got Poké bowls and all loved them. The only murmurs of discontent was with those who got the chicken katsu and the garlic shrimp. They said their dishes were pretty dry. They did load up the potions though... so ... ya know, if you do like it, there will be A LOT of it. I noticed they have a happy hour which is cool. Cheaper Poké bowls and half off apps. Not a bad deal at all! Especially because they have a little seating area which can make it a nice little place to check out. In all I would definitely recommend their Poké bowls.

It's always been on the expensive side, but seeing one oxtail plate go up to $31 (+tax) makes it hard to justify coming here as often as I used to. The quality is still there, but the higher price means it'll probably be more of once a year meal. One thing to be aware of is that there's a surcharge even when paying with a debit card. Legally you're not supposed to add a charge when using debit card but I paid it anyways. It was an unexpected charge that other customers may want to know about. Ambience was okay. Service was nice. Overall, the food is delicious and worth trying, but between the rising prices and the added card surcharge, I'll likely be visiting once in a blue moon.
