    BBQ Chicken Plate
    Dee D.

I chose this Hawaiian BBQ restaurant based on the great reviews. But I was disappointed after having the BBQ Chicken plate. The chicken was not cooked like the photo on the wall menu. I prefer when the meat is charred and it wasn't. The flavor was just ok. The macaroni salad was bland. The plate includes 2 small scoops of steamed rice and finely chopped raw cabbage under the chicken. The chicken was freshly made. I was the only patron at the time and I waited for 15 minutes to receive my order. Look for suite 112 because there is no sign on the building. Sadly, I will not be returning.

    #1 Combo

Stopped in for lunch for the first time the other day, since I was craving L&L's but was in this area instead. The 2 female employees were standing around chit chatting for some time and hadn't even acknowledged me after 3 mins of me just standing there. It was pretty ridiculous haha. I eventually interrupted their convo and said "hello? Can I order?" I ordered the #1 Combo: Hawaiian BBQ Mix- BBQ beef, BBQ ribs and BBQ chicken. The gentleman who brought out my order seemed nice though. Food was good but I was starving to say the least.

    Beef and chicken bbq mean

The beef was dry the chicken had a huge gross skin on it very disappointing they didnt have a self serve to get sauces and the person said they put it in the bag my fault for not checking cause I got home and there was no sauces

    Close up of number one.

Small hole in the wall. But very busy. Standard Hawaiian bbq menu. No chicken teriyaki. Hawaiian chicken grilled is closed.

Food (5/5 stars): I love Ohana Hawaiian BBQ's huge portions! Their Chicken Katsu was great and I'm looking forward to trying their Hawaiian BBQ Mix plate Experience (5/5 stars): * Price: it's a tad pricey but worth * Wait Time: minimal on a Saturday for lunch * Service: very good and friendly * Parking: there's a parking lot * Ambiance: it's a casual, quick service restaurant

#1 Combo - bbq chicken, bbq beef and short ribs

This is our go-to Hawaiian BBQ place. There is seating inside, but we most often get our food to go here. I love the #1 combo with short ribs, bbq beef and bbq chicken, 2 scoops of rice and mac salad. It's really straight forward food. You get exactly what you expect, but all too often you don't, so I appreciate that! Locally owned place - the guy running the cashier and the grill (and probably the owner!) remembers my husband and his order after not seeing him for a couple years. Pretty amazing! There's another Ohana location in Oceanside at 76 and College. That one's pretty good too but I prefer this location. From all the other reviews, looks like I should give the chicken katsu a try next time we're stopping in!

    Where is the new location?

If you are going South on Melrose go under the 78 freeway past Hacienda, past the courthouse it is on the right side in the same lot as El Pollo Loco and Ogies next to a nail salon. Hope this helps.

So I keep trying new spots hoping one finally hits. I'd driven past Urban Teri Kitchen a bunch of times taking my kids to practices and games and finally decided to stop in. Didn't even check Yelp first. Just went in blind based on a good feeling about the place. Glad I did. I ordered the half-and-half with chicken teriyaki and katsu, and honestly it was one of the better teriyaki plates I've had anywhere around here. The chicken was flavorful, the katsu was crispy without being greasy, and everything tasted fresh. It's a little pricier than some teriyaki spots, but the quality backs it up. My wife and I could easily split one order next time. I came in around 4 PM, so it wasn't packed, but the people inside looked happy, the restaurant was clean, and the whole place just had a really good vibe. Sometimes you can tell within a minute whether a place cares about what they're doing, and this felt like one of those spots. There's a reason they've got 4.7 stars. If anything, I'd say that rating is deserved.

Scanned the QR code on the big banner from the outside and checked out their menu. Saw lumpia and thought it was a Filipino spot). Saw they had a happy hour menu and decided to check it out before our movie. The vibe we really cute and played reggae music. It was a relaxing, chill atmosphere with lots of tvs. The server, Jaz was really nice, friendly and very hospitable. She spoke of their Guamanian food, heritage and community. They've been in the current spot for the last 7 or 8 months, so fairly new, but were down the street for many years before that. We ordered 2 different kinds of BBQ chicken wings. Two orders of the sweet chili glazed (Pine Doni) and one of the other which was like a honey bbq glazed style. All were supposed to have 6 wings, but the honey BBQ one had 5 (?). The sweet chili was our fave of the two. Their chicken empanadas were huge, and served 3 per dish, were delicious and crispy, with an aioli like sauce with a wonderful kick. The spam roll was a masubi-like and was good (husband said it was the best he's ever had). The side of mac salad had great flavor! Jaz brought us some red rice to try on the house and it was really good! It reminded me of Vietnamese chicken rice, with chicken broth infused into the rice, making it really tasty and savory. First time having Guamanian food and we're stoked we tried it! All in all, great food and awesome service! If you've never tried it before...put it on your list! You won't regret it!

We started off with the chicken kelaguen which had the perfect amount of flavor and tanginess with the red rice staple. I do wish I got more rice in the chicken to rice ratio, but it was good regardless. Shortly after we got our empanadas (the whole reason I wanted to go here). I had been craving them for weeks and it didn't disappoint. The filling was the delicious and the crust was perfectly crunchy. We then shared the Guam bomb which was a pretty decently sized plate. I appreciated how crunchy the fries were, especially since the amount of sauce on top could have easily made them soggy very quickly. I do wish there was a little more meat but it tasted yummy nonetheless. Our absolute favorite part of the meal was desert. The banana donuts! It came with 4 which was perfectly paired with strawberry ice cream. Overall, super duper happy with another visit to this amazing spot! Hopefully we'll catch them at PIFA San Diego this year

I also got the jerk chicken. I wasn't a fan of the spices (too spicy) and the chicken was dry. I wish the chicken was on the bone. Lastly, I tried the beef patty. It's always been on the expensive side, but seeing one oxtail plate go up to $31 (+tax) makes it hard to justify coming here as often as I used to. The quality is still there, but the higher price means it'll probably be more of once a year meal. One thing to be aware of is that there's a surcharge even when paying with a debit card. Legally you're not supposed to add a charge when using debit card but I paid it anyways. It was an unexpected charge that other customers may want to know about. Ambience was okay. Service was nice. Overall, the food is delicious and worth trying, but between the rising prices and the added card surcharge, I'll likely be visiting once in a blue moon.

The beef had a delicious marinade as well, but it was a bit tough, still good though. I usually eat this plate/platter for two different meals or split this with a friend. While the food was delicious, the wait time was a bit long for to-go. We only had one person ahead of us and it took over 25 minutes for our one order to be ready. Ordering ahead over the phone would probably be the best idea for the future. Really easy otherwise to get in and out as there is plenty of parking on the plazas lot. Overall the menu options here are the same as other Hawaiian BBQ chains in SD. Nothing crazy different. Happy to have another convenient spot to go to!

I was so happy to find a variety of my favorite Hawaiian Suns, so i definitely had to have one as my drink of choice. I did order the mixed bbq plate as that is one of my go-tos to try different meats. They really loaded the meat and rice which I greatly appreciated. The Mac salad was so small though. It's one of my favorite sides and I really do wish they gave more than 2-3 bites of Mac salad per order. The rice was good, a bit dry but nothing crazy. Absolutely loved their (Kalbi) short ribs, bbq beef, and bbq chicken. Short ribs are usually my favorite and they did not disappoint. I couldn't choose a favorite out of the three meats because they all had potent bbq flavor in each bite and all were cooked to perfection. Practically melts in your mouth when warm. I love to eat half of each of the meats and save the rest for another meal (since they really pack the meat in this order). I definitely need to come back to try their multiple other options but the Hawaiian bbq mix plate will always have my heart.
