I've been coming to One Love for years and the food has always been consistently good. The oxtail plate is my favorite, especially with the mango salad and sweet plantains. Everything is flavorful and satisfying, and I usually order it to go. The only downside is the price. It's always been on the expensive side, but seeing one oxtail plate go up to $31 (+tax) makes it hard to justify coming here as often as I used to. The quality is still there, but the higher price means it'll probably be more of once a year meal. One thing to be aware of is that there's a surcharge even when paying with a debit card. Legally you're not supposed to add a charge when using debit card but I paid it anyways. It was an unexpected charge that other customers may want to know about. Ambience was okay. Service was nice. Overall, the food is delicious and worth trying, but between the rising prices and the added card surcharge, I'll likely be visiting once in a blue moon. read more

I ordered takeout online. I got the oxtail; it was succulent and juicy. I got plantains (nice and sweet!) and greens. The plate worked so well with the rice and beans. I also got the jerk chicken. I wasn't a fan of the spices (too spicy) and the chicken was dry. I wish the chicken was on the bone. Lastly, I tried the beef patty. The crust could have been flakier but the beef was well-spiced and worked with the spicy but fruity hot sauce. I ordered an oxtail bowl ($18.99) and an oxtail plate ($24.98). The flavor wasnt horrible. I will include pics of the portion size. I counted 3 oxtail in the bowl. More fat on the tail than ox to eat. My plantain was dry and hard. I read other comments that mentioned how juicy they were! Not my experience. My dumpling was the size of a baby finger. The shape was definitely interesting. The beef patty was the best I've ever had in life. Rice and peas was more of a dirty white rice with some seasoning and peas added. If you're looking to get full, this ain't it. If you want to satisfy a quick craving for a taste, you may be satisfied. As you look at the pictures, please realize this was $44 worth of food. After the drinks and beef patty, I walked out with a bag of $62 worth of snacks. My two drinks totaled $9 and the beef patty was a whopping $5. Rock steady in San Diego would have least given you a heaping tray for the same price.. if they switch up their business model to a Pattie shop, this business will be one to last for decades like Charlie's in Ft. Just ridiculously good and one of a kind in Oceanside. We were in a takeout rut, only going to places we were familiar with. We changed it up and went to One Love, and we were not disappointed. My bride loves this spot and has been a customer for 12 years. We were nearby and she made a point to stop in for to-go. This jerk chicken is very nice. First time walking into this spot, and let me just say--what an experience! I came in to try the oxtails, and they did not disappoint. The meat was fall-off-the-bone tender, flavorful, and not overly fatty. Paired with the Jamaican rice, which was soft and fluffy, it was perfection. The atmosphere is welcoming, and the staff shows true hospitality, making you feel right at home. I also tried one of their Jamaican drinks--refreshing and packed with flavor, definitely a must-have! The empanadas with spiced meat had just the right kick to balance everything out. If I had one small critique, it would be the plantains--I think if they made them fresh to order, it would take them to the next level. Overall though, this place is a gem in Oceanside. Pricing is fair, portions are generous, and the food quality is phenomenal. For me, it's a strong 9.2/10 and an easy 5/5 stars. As someone from the Caribbean, particularly Grenada, I was excited to try this restaurant, especially given how rare it is to find authentic Caribbean food in the area. However, I was ultimately disappointed with the Escovitch fish. From the photo, it was clear that the dish was lacking the essential ingredients--peppers, onions, carrots, and vinegar that typically make up the vibrant, flavorful topping for this dish. While I understand that some adjustments might be made for non-Caribbean palates, this version didn't quite meet expectations. For anyone familiar with authentic Caribbean cuisine, especially those from the islands, this would likely fall short. The gentleman working mentioned they were closing soon, even though it was only 2 PM, which made me wonder if it was simply a case of the kitchen winding down early. That said, the restaurant itself was nicely presented, and the food was bland, (no seasoning) though I believe it would be more appealing to people less familiar with traditional Caribbean flavors. Overall, it felt like a missed opportunity, and I left feeling quite let down. I do hope this was just an off day, as the potential for a great experience is certainly there. One Love Island Cuisine is Oceanside's one & only Jamaican food spot. Because I was raised in the Caribbean islands, I can say that this place is pretty accurate to the flavors it represents. One Love Island Cuisine is centrally located inland, just off of Oceanside Blvd, east of College Blvd and within the Rancho Del Oro Shopping Plaza. If you drive passed Aldi's, you went too far. The one major thing I dislike about this plaza is that parking is always right here and is a nightmare when it's busy. Although it's not One Love's Cuisine's fault, unfortunately it does factor-in my experience coming to dine at their establishment. Their interior is very simple and has a few island decorative pieces and pictures. I like that they have Caribbean-inspired music playing. The interior is a little small though and not the best for large groups. One Love Cuisine's menu has a lot of island favorites in it. Some of my favorites are the simple pâtés and I love that they have seasoned beef (a touch spicy), chicken & veggie (spinach). For those who are looking for a more complete dish, I highly recommend their oxtail plate. It is seasoned to perfection & you'll want to lap-up all of the gravy until the plate is dry. I recall it being on a nice-spice heat level. Their jerk chicken is also delicious and spiced well. The peas & rice are a nice compliment. I'll always recommend getting a side of sweet plantain (fried bananas) with ANY plate. The sweet-to-heat flavor profile is immaculate! One of my difficulties I've always had with One Love Cuisine is that when I used to attempt to call my order in-advance, the phone would just ring and wouldn't even go to voicemail. I'm guessing they're busy and can't just get to the phone. But it's sad they don't have an answering system to have them take orders or return calls. Sometimes I would call just to confirm they were Open and I never knew what to think when they didn't answer their phone. I recommend getting a TING grapefruit soda with your order and lookout for the saltfish & ackee Overall, One Love Island Cuisine is a gem in Oceanside and they're our one haven for tasty Jamaican food. read more

It's a cozy, attractive restaurant with some pretty darn good Jamaican food. The decor inside is very cool. You may not feel like you're in Jamaica but the vibe is certainly there. Plenty of free parking in the center. The oxtail bowl was delicious and I only wish there was more of it. Its flavor was deep and rich and the sauce was very, well, very lickable. It's a little pricey for the quantity but I can't deny the great flavors. The rice was fine but somewhat on the dry side but the mango salad was fresh and very tasty. Watch out for the little container of hot sauce they give you. It has a real kick. The beef patty was terrific and just a tad spicy. The meat inside was juicy and flavorful. I went and did a hard lift at the gym, came and got the two items sampler with the coconut curry chicken and oxtail, double mango salad as my sides, it comes with rice. I simply haven't had a meal that nourishing and that delicious for a long time.. Decided to give this a try tonight, got an order in a little before they closed at 8. We sampled a wide variety with boneless jerk chicken plate with plantains and rice, BBQ chicken sandwich, mango salad, beef patty, fries, goat and rice. I tried the fries, the BBQ chicken sandwich, and some of the beef patty. I have not seen a BBQ chicken sandwich quite like this before, the bread was like a giant puffed pita, and the chicken and mango was layered out on it, but you could fold it up into a sandwich. It was pretty tasty and the BBQ sauce had a nice spicy kick to it, not too bad, but enough to make you get a little tingle. The fries were pretty standard, good, and a nice compliment to the sandwich. I got a small sample piece of the beef patty, kind of like an empanada, and it was tasty - but hard to go wrong with fried dough surrounding meat. Definitely would try it again. read more
