Oxtail
Mimi T.

Get the oxtail!!! We literally inhaled our plate. Reason why we shared one plate because we were doing a pretty intense food crawl all day. The meat is melt in your mouth, and my goodness, the rice, collard greens, and plantains were also delicious!

This is the oxtail platter. You get two sides I chose plantains and cooked cabbage.

I ordered an oxtail bowl ($18.99) and an oxtail plate ($24.98). The flavor wasnt horrible. I will include pics of the portion size. I counted 3 oxtail in the bowl. More fat on the tail than ox to eat. My plantain was dry and hard. I read other comments that mentioned how juicy they were! Not my experience. My dumpling was the size of a baby finger. The shape was definitely interesting. The beef patty was the best I've ever had in life. Rice and peas was more of a dirty white rice with some seasoning and peas added. If you're looking to get full, this ain't it. If you want to satisfy a quick craving for a taste, you may be satisfied. As you look at the pictures, please realize this was $44 worth of food. After the drinks and beef patty, I walked out with a bag of $62 worth of snacks. My two drinks totaled $9 and the beef patty was a whopping $5. Rock steady in San Diego would have least given you a heaping tray for the same price.. if they switch up their business model to a Pattie shop, this business will be one to last for decades like Charlie's in Ft. Lauderdale!

First time walking into this spot, and let me just say--what an experience! I came in to try the oxtails, and they did not disappoint. The meat was fall-off-the-bone tender, flavorful, and not overly fatty. Paired with the Jamaican rice, which was soft and fluffy, it was perfection. The atmosphere is welcoming, and the staff shows true hospitality, making you feel right at home. I also tried one of their Jamaican drinks--refreshing and packed with flavor, definitely a must-have! The empanadas with spiced meat had just the right kick to balance everything out. If I had one small critique, it would be the plantains--I think if they made them fresh to order, it would take them to the next level. Overall though, this place is a gem in Oceanside. Pricing is fair, portions are generous, and the food quality is phenomenal. For me, it's a strong 9.2/10 and an easy 5/5 stars. If you're craving authentic Jamaican food, this is THE spot to check out!

They had outside tables plus inside, which was helpful.I was very excited for their Oxtail, but had very small pieces. But, it had very good service and was somewhat Caribbean.Sadly, the interior was very loud with blasting music and the loud sound of them prepping the food

This place is amazing! Jerk chicken & coconut curry will change your life. Best plantains and rice and beans I've had, highly recommend if you're in the area.

excellent food! Got combo plate with plaintains, ox tail, jerk chicken, collard greens and red beans and rice. standouts were the oxtail and the plaintains. Super tender, fall apart meat on the oxtail and the plantains were carmelized and sweet. Jerk chicken was dry but not tough, and good seasoning.

I went to pick up an oxtail bowl to go and wow, bomb.com. Tender & super flavorful. Wished I got the bigger plate instead. I'm drooling & craving it as I type up this review. Extra points for the nice to go containers that keeps the food separated. Not sure what the dumpling dough was in the oxtail dish, I thought it was a fingerling potato at first. But I loved it drenched in the yummy flavorful gravy. I can't wait to go back to try the jerk chicken & everything else on the menu. But I will always get that oxtail too.

Customer service was excellent, very nice ambiance in the restaurant itself. Good prices and that chicken was falling off the bone, it was tender and very flavorful. That heat built but it was amazing.

Ask the Community - One Love Island Cuisine

Is your boneless jerk chicken breast or thighs? Also, what do you offer that is gluten free?

Are the owners Black?

Kamala, the owner (no, I'm NOT kidding) is Black. Very talented in the kitchen. Do yourself a favor and help support her business.

Do you have gluten free options?

Yes!

Is the veggie patty vegan?

The crust does have eggs in it. Sorry the answer is no.

What is in the kids meal? Are the fries seasoned with jerk seasonings or plain? Thanks!!

The kids meal consists of lightly salted shoe string fries and 8pc chicken nuggets. No jerk seasonings are used on the fries.

Is their chicken patty, coconut curry or oxtail spicy? I know the jerk chicken usually is, so wondering if the other dishes are. I want to try this place but I just don't have the pallet for spicy foods so I'm looking for a dish to try. Thanks!

Hi! They serve rice and peas (beans) that has a very lovely smooth coconut cream that helps take the bite out of any spicy food. The jerk chicken is the hottest so please stay away from that if you are trying to avoid spice. The jerk wings are not…

It used to be…read moretheir spot, so I thought, what better way to honor him than with ribs, mac and cheese, and a hopeful attitude? We ordered the 3 meats plate with a side of mac and cheese, thinking we'd leave in a food coma. Plot twist: for $45, we basically split a light snack. We asked for double ribs, but apparently ribs are weighed like gold here--so we got just a few sad little bones. When I asked the bartender, she hit me with a "it's weighted meat" and shrugged. Oh. Okay. Guess we're on a portion control diet now. The BBQ sauce? Meh. My mom and I both agreed it was giving "needs a little more love." The corn? Tasted like it defrosted just for us. Still decent, but not for the price tag. The mac and cheese though? A win. Warm, cheesy, and the only thing that arrived hotter than my mild frustration. Now let's talk service. Our bartender vanished mid-meal (poof! just like the ribs), didn't say bye, and didn't introduce her replacement. Instead, she sat at the bar with her friends while we played a fun game of "Where's Our Server?" Spoiler: we lost. Had to ask multiple times for refills. Not quite the relaxing "mom night out" I had in mind. My mom summed it up perfectly: "The prices went up, and the service went down." Poetry. Also, shoutout to the guy next to us who tried ordering half the menu only to be told, "Yeah, we're out of that" over and over. Management, a quick stock check might be helpful for you guest Lastly, don't come here if you're starving or in a rush. Our food took forever and was colder than my ex's heart by the time it arrived--minus the mac and cheese, the MVP. Would I come back? Maybe. But only after a snack and a pep talk. Management, if you're reading this, we just want hot food, a heads-up when the server disappears, and ribs that don't need a microscope to be seen. Is that too much to ask?

I annihilated the pulled pork before taking any pics and quickly snapped a shot of the brisket. Both were awesome. Pulled pork wasn't dried out like many other places. For dinner I ordered the tri-tip sando. It was excellent but the chimichurri was a bit too strong so I wasn't able to taste much of anything else...the hubs liked it more than I did. The hubs ordered the Pig burger. Two patties...one beef and one pork with bacon jam, white cheddar and bread/butter pickles. The patties were cooked perfectly and the sweet bacon jam was a perfect addition (I'll be ordering this next visit) Both sandwiches came with thin sliced fries. We sat at the bar and Sean was again our server...very attentive and friendly!

The online descriptions appear to be heavily embellished (likely AI-generated), promising far more than what arrives at the table. The steak was noticeably low quality, and the cioppino, advertised with fresh bread, fish, and pasta, tasted like watered-down Campbell's soup concentrate. To make matters worse, the bathroom was filthy. While our waiter was genuinely nice, the food was a huge disappointment. For the price, it was frustrating and disheartening to pay premium rates for such a poor experience. We cannot recommend this place and will not be returning.

They get really busy, and seem to have a coordinated system, like theme parks, to seat customers efficiently. Someone greets you immediately and gets your party size and has you stand by a number. Someone else grabs fresh bread and a bag of peanuts as they seat you. Then your server is right around the corner to get drinks and apps started and answer any menu questions. We decided to try to eat lightly and shared a combo 12oz ribeye with ribs. Came with two sides -- we chose chili and mashed potatoes. And of course we had the warm bread with honey cinnamon butter, as well as the peanuts to start. I was definitely stuffed by the end! Loved the bread and the steak - would order again.
