Got day-boat scallops and stuffed clams today. Not disappointed!! Everything was so fresh. The scallops were tender, and not gritty.the stuffed clams were seasoned perfectly and so didn't have fillers. Will definitely go back. Highly recommend. It has been a pleasure to shop for our family's seafood at Surf City Fishery, as they have one of freshest seafood markets on the island. Both the brothers, Gary and Marty bend over backwards to accommodate your needs. Salmon, Tile fish and halibut are a weekly purchases for us, along with their wild shrimp from the gulf. Scallops are sweet and tender. If you are traveling a distance, ask for a bag of ice. Their prices are excellent and their service is 5 star. Confidently recommending this store. read more

I've been the The Fishery twice, once last summer and then again today. The purpose of today's visit was to get lunch for my step-dad and I. They had lots of fresh fish but we wanted cooked items. They have a nice menu but it was a little pricey. I ordered a shrimp and scallop platter and my step-dad got a shrimp platter. Each was $19 and came 2 side items. It's worth noting there are only 3 side items to pick from: corn on the cob, fries, and coleslaw. We both picked fries and coleslaw. With our platters in tow we walked back to our beach house. My platter had 5 shrimp and 3 scallops. They were fine, but nothing to rave about. The coleslaw was homemade and a little sweet, which is what I'm used to. The fries were just typical fries and could have used another min to get crispier. The shrimp platter had 10 shrimp. The breeding seemed to be cornmeal based. So, nice lunch but I think it was a little expensive for what we got. read more

I hadn't been to this Fishery for a couple of years but excellent quality continues. We bought fresh clams and tilefish for dinner tonight. The seafood was pricey ($20 per pound for tilefish and flounder) but absolutely delicious. Clams were very tender. We will return. So happy they were there and offer local fish and clams. read more

Heard nothing but good about this place and my own experiences were good as well. Had take-out from their limited menu (no eating on site, it's mostly fresh fish sold here) and crab cakes were tasty though small with little filler, breaded flounder melts in your mouth. They close early so go before dinner time. Another time we bought salmon to bake at home, and although its a testament to the chef more than the store, the salmon was to-die-for! I love this place. Local guys own and run the shop. They only carry what's fresh and are so helpful and friendly. Every weekend I come here and stock up on fresh fish, stuffed clams, homemade crab cakes and key lime pie. I nearly just cleaned them out of their blues (which finally came in since the winds stopped). I really appreciate this place. Nothing pretentious or "fancy," just some good seafood to choose from. We go each year during our visits to LBI. They always have good corn on the cob, awesome tomatoes, and pasta and local sauces. They also have ice - always helpful. The prices are reasonable and the service very friendly. We went to purchase some fish.... knowing that this place has quality products. We got a dozen oysters, and had them for lunch. Clean and tasty. The BEST seafood. Not cheap- but why would it be? Family owned business, great guys behind the counter, very knowledgeable about fish & seafood. They'd never sell anything that wasn't grade A. We've been shopping there for a long time and will continue to do so. And, they're still open after most of the other places close for the season, so you can still find good fish after Labor Day! I've never bought the prepared foods- I hear that they're family recipes. We just buy the fish/seafood and take it home to cook. We love stopping here when we come for our vacation in Ship Bottom. The seasoned peak and eat shrimp are my favorite and I cannot come to LBI without getting. They have the best cocktail sauce, and a nice selection of tomatoes and breads if you need to add to your meal. Stopped by Surf City Fishery yesterday on the way home from a day at the beach. Upon entering the store a strong bleach odor is what I first noticed. Bought a lb of medium shrimp and had the man put some ice around the shrimp and we put the bag in a cooler for the hour ride home. Decided to grill skewered shrimp. Shrimp had a bleach odor like the store and some were mushy. If I lived closer I would have returned the entire bag. The shrimp were marinated with olive oil, garlic, lemon, salt,pepper and cilantro but were not flavorful and had a weird taste. Needless to say.... 1/2 lb shrimp was thrown out! Never again will we stop at this supposingly fresh shore fishery! read more

I've been going to this place since I was a child with my grandparents. She would buy little necks for her Manhattan Clam Chowder (which could compete at Chowderfest), and they always seem to have what you're looking for. If they don't, they'll recommend something that has just come off the boats in Barnegat Light. It remains our generational place to go, as others on the Island are overpriced and usually carry seafood that isn't local. Family owned by a really nice family, so I always try to make a trip to support them when I'm on the Island, which is frequently. read more

I'm 48 and have known these folks since I was a kid going with my Mom to get clams and mussels. All those years ago their father owned the shop. Now its theirs. Always great customer service. The original LBI fishery is also the most authentic! The fish smell that hits you at the door tells you that it's all so fresh!! My kids love the thick white flesh of their flounder fillets, tastier than any other place. Nice "brotherly" service, great selection and fair prices: it's worth the trip and our loyalty!! read more
