I don't think there is a type of meat they can't get. While visiting friends in AZ they served us a BBQ'd Tri steak. A delicious cut of meat. Can't find around here. The meat here is pretty mid but you wouldn't know by the prices they charge. My big problem is with Okies is the cleanliness here. This place keeps raw poultry in the same case and right beside the cold cuts and deli salads. I've gone here a few times and I'm always disappointed. On Monday I went only because the other butchers were closed. I thought maybe the last time I had a bad cut. You go to a quality butcher and you expect prime beef. They do not sell prime. The strip steaks can't compare to other butchers in Manahawkin and forked River although prices are the same if not higher. Their steaks are comparable if not below Costco's. Never again ! read more

Almost two inches of turkey, a quarter inch of salami, an eighth of an inch of cheese, all nestled in between a roll or hoagie with lettuce, tomato, onions, hot peppers, and sweet peppers. Is there anything better? There is not. Okie's makes the best, most delicious and insanely stacked sandwiches on LBI. This is my lunch of choice, every time I'm down, every day that I'm down. This is the ONLY beach food you need. Paired with a cold beer and a gigantic pickle (FYI don't forget to buy the pickle) you'll be more than set until dinner. Besides sandwiches, Okie's has a huge meat selection - and this year their tomahawks look even more tomahawkey than usual. I'm catching up on old reviews...such a slacker. Anyway, if you've kept up with my food reviews, you know I'm a carnivore and that I love a good cookout! What better to throw on the grill, especially on the deck in LBI, than a couple of thick NY Strips, filets or even some burgers you made with fresh ground beef? If that's your goal, and you're on LBI, then I can't recommend a better place than Okie's. We've been coming to LBI for a few years now and while we eat out a bit, I love to just cook it up for the family, so almost every night we'll hit Okie's or a local seafood market...or even better-BOTH. No lie, Okie's is THE place to go for some great steaks...they have an excellent selection and if you can cook, you won't be disappointed in the quality. If you can't cook then you might as will buy crap anyway, or better yet...learn! you'll spend a little more at Okie's than at the supermarkets on the mainland, but it's worth it. Staff does not wear gloves when preparing your food and then same person cashes you out at the register. The food in my view is tainted! Raw meats into bare hands onto sliced bread and then handles cash and phone, no gloves and do not sanitize. Disgusting and they they think it's funny. read more

If you've read other places I've reviewed down on LBI (which is really only one and that's okay) then you may know that I lived down there for the better part of 13 months. In that 13 months I think I have eaten at Oakie's over 24 times throughout the entire year though perhaps not continually as I know they used to close for about 6 weeks to go enjoy the races... (not sure which kind though.) Regardless of that fact there is no better value for your money. Whether you want their $5 lunch special or just a sandwich with whatever you like on it you will routinely walk out spending less than $10 and for someone who had only an hour for lunch and then had to get back to a lot of carpentry this was the place to fill your belly. Everyone in my family knows how to eat. Hands-down I could probably beat just about everyone but my cousin however even Oakie's provides significant challenges in the finishing-of-my-plate department as you can barely get your mouth around their sandwiches. And on top of that everything is sliced fresh and their roast beef is so rare you can't get it any better! To top it all off they put their sandwiches on REAL bread. None of this supermarket brand/Wonderbread type of crap... I mean real bread with a real crust (and sesame seeds on it are a plus) and a thick dense crumb that tells you it was baked by a person not a bunch of large scale machines in a factory. And did I mention their a butcher shop as well? Never bought beef or anything else from them but I bet it was all primo stuff too! Keep it up Oakie's!!! read more

Basic deli and butcher - the meat was reasonably priced and decent enough. hands down better than getting your meat anywhere else, and everyone raves about their burgers (though I haven't tried them yet). don't be scared by the large crowd waiting - take a number and enjoy an efficient shop that will get you out quicker than you would expect. read more

ive been buying steaks at okies from time to time. at first steaks were excellent and then somehow multiple times we got tough flavorless steaks and just brought them from home. Tried again this year early in the season. steaks were excellent. Tried again a few more times this summer and steaks sucked. rough, no flavor. hey okie, if you are selling at those prices they better be great every time. this place is 50-50 at best and not worth the expense. best to bring down to LBI from elsewhere. like Stu Leonards where its always good and prices reasonable. read more

This is clearly a 10 star butcher shop. I don't eat allot a meat, but when I do I get it at Okie's. They have such a great selection!!! I fill the cooler and take a bunch of stuff home when I'm on the island. Best damn hotdogs and sausages too. Awesome on the grill!!!! Great dry rub spices too!!!! load up!!!! The shoppe made sandwiches are efing incredible, and made with such high quality meat you just want to slap someone!!! trust me and get a sandwich and be prepared to eat!!! I only went here for the hoagies, which are pretty good, but be warned that if you go on a Saturday afternoon you will WAIT FOREVER. All the renters seem to stop by this place for easy meals on their way into the island on Saturdays. Next time I'll plan accordingly & try to go on an off hour! Again though, the hoagies are pretty good, especially by shore standards. And BIG. (I didn't finish mine & I'm usually a big eater.) Ordered a "hot" app tray in June ... got home to a tray of 3 kinds of frozen heated up fried items (pigs in a blanket, something that was meat fried and something spinach) these looked like items that were purchased at Costco or bjs in the frozen food section... my family and friends won't ever be back. read more

Excellent butcher shop with great selection. But I want to comment on the caterin aspect of the business. I have been to several affair's that okie's has catered and all have been excellent. From pig roast , to outdoor parties, to weddings, every affair was excellent from the food to the staff. So anybody planning a party on Long Beach Island NJ , keep them in mind. Jason C read more

Unfortunately, my first visit to LBI had a bump in the road at the end when I discovered my car had been vandalized at Okies by the employees and manager that run the business. The parking lot, which has no marked parking signs, had available spaces and I parked there to eat across the street, not knowing it was only Okies parking lot. In most businesses they have signs that have say "business parking only" They put two Okies stickers on the front and back of my car that have high tacky glue so taking it off I had to basically give it a car wash. Upon calling the business I spoke to an older gentleman who said "This should teach you not to park in our lot" I have never been to LBI before and this is terrible representation on how business owners in this nice beach town should conduct business. Again, this was a normal parking lot with no signage. As a business owner and employees, they conduct themselves extremely unprofessionally and have terrible work ethics. I do hope they get some new management or coaching on how to conduct business with some graciousness and not vandalize. read more
