This has become one of our very most favorite, special places to go. We first tried them shortly after they first opened, and dove in headfirst with a holiday (Easter) meal with the family. They made a wonderful first impression, and no then-brand new restaurant on a major holiday (the restaurant equivalent of baptism by fire for staff and customers) can usually pull that off. They did, and did so beautifully. Our subsequent returns have been generally just us as a couple, party of 2, but occasionally we'll bring another couple in our friend group. No one leaves disappointed (except me, who still hasn't figured out how to leave belly room to try one of their desserts). Highlights include the skirt steak and the broiled scallops. I would sell a soul (not my soul, for it's cold and dead and I don't think they fetch much on the market, so it would have to be a better soul) for their risotto cakes. BYOB, which more than allows the few extra dollars you might think are attached to meals. You're paying for top quality and their prices are more than fair for what you get. Sometimes their phones can have trouble when making a reservation. Not sure if that's a VOiP thing or what, but check their social media often (be advised: the photos of the food may cause your mouth to salivate.) Can't wait to return. read more

This was a delicious meal from start to finish. Their bang bang shrimp was the best fried shrimp I've ever had and not ruined by a ton of sauce. Eggplant tower I would order every time I come here. Light and crispy and didn't fall apart when cutting in half to share. The flame grilled sample board for 2 was the right call and price was totally fair for the portion size. Fresh chimichurri sauce and their house steak sauce went well with all 3 cuts of steak. They executed the medium rare temp like champions too. Only 4 stars because the large greenhouse window could work if it had a decent view not a side parking lot. Felt like those 1980s Wendy's with that same window thing going on. Service was solid and food came out relatively quick even with 2 large parties sitting down at a similar time as us. Def going back. read more

I hate to write a harsh review but... I was disappointed in the restaurant overall... Shrimp was overcooked and orzo undercooked. Steak and meatloaf also overcooked. The salmon was dry and souped with orzo in sugar water that was supposed to be honey glaze. When we told waitstaff we didn't like the salmon, they were kind and took it back, but brought us the same salmon which was then overcooked. It still didn't taste great and at the end of dinner... we saw that the salmon wasn't even taken off of the bill. Not to mention one of the waitstaff had a vape in her shirt (in an inappropriate place). Overall was disappointed, especially since the prices were terribly high for the quality of food. New restaurant on LBI, we were greeted quickly and sat on time I had a large table of 12. We ordered apps for the table and I will say the the baked clams fried calamari and mozzarella with tomato was great. I picked the prime NY strip that was suggested by the staff, it was good but I will say definitely not prime. Some other issues no big deal but one our guests did not get their dinner it took 15 min to come out and everyone was was done eating, the manager decided to take the sodas of the bill wow $6 The entire meal was just good sorry will not be back read more

Food: 3 Expensive menu. They had a bunch of different "surf and turf" type dishes with meat and fish combo but all those entrees were $45-$70. I got seafood pasta dish for $42. It was ok but at that price it should have been memorable. Service: 4 We had a pleasant server that wasn't that busy (Thursday in June-light crowd) so gave us good service. Ambience: 2 - Could use a renovation. Still feels like the same old place that was the Greenhouse. Dingy and Musty. Old furniture. Always like to see new restaurants open in LBI as many of them are being torn down to build houses. But a pricey place like this should do better on food if not renovate and update the space. read more

We were looking forward to our dinner last night at Rare Company. When we arrived, there was only one other couple in the whole restaurant and they were paying their check to leave. I noticed an almost full bowl of mashed potatoes left on the table. I joked to my daughter to go take them. It was a bit of for-shadowing. The server was pleasant. She uncorked our wine and took our orders. Our review is as follows: Calamari- all rings, which we love. Crunchy and tasty. The dipping sauce was peppery and awful. We ignored it and asked the server for some lemon. It never came. We enjoyed the calamari anyway. Steaks- All three steaks were cooked perfectly and delicious. French fries- Crispy and delicious. Mashed Potatoes- cold, bland and lifeless. No wonder the other couple left theirs untouched. Caprese Salad with grilled chicken- it was visually beautiful. However, the chicken had zero flavor. We expected the August Jersey Tomatoes to be perfect, they were not. Flavorless dish. Overall we were not impressed, especially for the very high prices. I doubt we will be back. read more

We had dinner here this past weekend, after having followed on IG last summer. Enough people have bad reviews that the restaurant posted a heartfelt message last week. That decided it, I wanted to patronize their establishment and be able to post a positive review. (Since so few people take the time to do so.) I'm going to go straight to business here, no fluff. Party of 5 of us came to this establishment around 730 pm and were promptly seated and cordially greeted. The ambiance was perfect- much preferred to the chaotic nature of the former greenhouse cafe. Within minutes we had put in a drink order and were already moving on to the ordering stages of our dining experience. Food Dinner rolls- 5/5. Nice and warm and buttery, even gave us an extra! Garlic olive oil was very appreciated and accompanied with some butter for the non-olive oil appliers. California chicken flatbread- 4.2/5 only complaint was that there was not enough of it! The chipotle sauce was applied with a bit of a heavy hand but that did not take much away from this excellent culinary confection Carolina Brisket- 4/5 tender and juicy meat paired with a cheesy shelled Mac n' cheese. Dijon mustard was not mentioned on the menu but it came drizzled on the meat which was unwelcome, would have preferred additional bbq sauce instead. Skirt Steak- 4.9/5 personally, not a huge fan of skirt steak. Something in my gut told me that RC would prove me wrong. I'm so glad I listened to my gut. This skirt steak was fantastic. Would come here again just for this. I paired it with the garlic mash and side of asparagus and was not disappointed. The sauce it came with was delicious and full of flavor. Portion was perfect. Burger- 4.3/5 solid burger. Can't complain. Fries were delicious Meatloaf- 4.2/5 excellent. Did the job. Tasted like grandmas. Love the home made feel of it. read more

I heard you say you were not going to pay and leave a Yelp review, which led me to create an account here just to respond. From the beginning, a few members of your party were very disrespectful. When you began arguing with the manager, you were demeaning and extremely rude. She handled it well and offered different options for you guys, to include you going into the kitchen to see that the steaks were cooking, since you were calling her a liar. Eventually, you took it too far and called her an idiot, at which point she asked you to leave. The escalation of the incident was very unnecessary and you made us, the people sitting nearby, very uncomfortable. I feel for the manager who had to endure your unjustified slander. Just because you don't like the service or time it takes to get your food, it doesn't give you the right to treat her like you did. It was very upsetting to see people treat others in the manner in which you did. She had every right to ask you to leave after that performance. read more

We ate here last night with a party of six. Starting with appetizers; wedge salad, caprese salad, stuffed mushrooms and baked clams. The wedge salad was the favorite. On to the entrees; Let me start with the pork chop, which was excellent! Definitely the star of the show at our table. We ordered two of the Board special which was a combination of three different cuts of steak, shrimp, mashed potatoes, asparagus and we added scallops. More than enough food for the table. If there was any grumbling it was directed at the mashed potatoes and the horseradish sauce, which didn't have much of a kick at all. The restaurant was fairly empty after a large party left which doesn't inspire confidence. With some tweaking Rare could become the steak house the island needs. We had a really good meal here. We were a party of 10 and have been here previously when it was the Greenhouse so we had big expectations coming in to eat. They were met! Salads were quite large and can be shared. We had 2 vegetarians in the party and there were choices for them (eggplant and a pasta primavera). If you are starving and this is the only place serving food. Don't go in. This is a new restaurant that will Not be here long. Supposedly it's a steak house but they have no idea how to cook a steak. We asked for rare and got well done. Sent the food back 20 minutes later still no replacement steak. When we asked where our steak was The waitress/manager said they were still cooking our steak. A rare steak should have come out in less than 10 minutes not 20. When I asked the manager why it was taking so long??? She said you need to leave. Wow We went to the black whale two days prior had a great meal and the check was 1000 dollars this place lost business and a good customer. Had dinner here on Thursday evening, party of four. They're busy, so be patient. Our waitress, Siobhan, seemed to be serving the whole restaurant. She was great, though. We never felt neglected, and she even apologized when our food took a little while to come out. When it did, it was well worth the short wait. My filet with crab Oscar, over spinach, was delicious. The steak was maybe a tad over my ordered medium-well, but I wasn't unhappy. I should have ordered it cooked medium. Husband's mussels were delicious, in a spicy tomato sauce. This seemed like a good place for dinner dispute the current reviews.. We called ahead and we're told we could seat. We arrived and sat and continued to wait with absolutely no one coming to the table for 30 minutes. At this point it didn't bother but I wish we would've been told to come later rather than wasting 30 minutes sitting. The food arrived to the table and the steak was cold, the shrimp was massively over cooked and overall the entire meal lacked flavor. Great varied menu and food options for all palates, love that you can get half salads. Staff was en point and wonderful. Caesar salad was fab. Main was filet, cooked perfectly. We just walked out of a very disappointing dinner. DO NOT WALK IN! HORRIBLE SERVICE! It was an expensive dinner for mediocre food. We ordered appetizers and main courses. After waiting for more than half an hour we called the waitress to ask about the appetizer. Then she stated that she thought that we want everything at once when we never said the appetizer should come with the main course. Next, they brought out our main courses. When she came to place the main courses on the table we kindly asked that because there was no room on the table to clear it. She proceeded to very rudely answer with "Well, I only have two hands ma'am." We ordered a rare steak that arrived to the table overcooked. Then, we received a butter linguine when we ordered one with seafood. When we mentioned that the steak was overcooked the waitress just turned around and walked away from the table. At this point we asked to speak with the manager. We told the manager what happened and asked to replace the steak. She came back with a second steak and asked us to check if it was cooked correctly in front of her. While it seemed to be cooked correctly, when we started eating we came to find out that it was cold. We called her back to the table and told her that the steak is cold inside. She started to argue that we don't know how a rare steak should be cooked. She left the table without taking the steak with her and instead brought the check without us asking for it. We told her that we would very gladly pay for the steak that included in the bill, but we asked her to fix it for us since in was inedible. Instead of taking the steak back and cooking it correctly, she started an argument and threatened to call the police. As someone who eats at high end steakhouses regularly and restaurants in general, I can state that this is the worst experience I've ever had. DONT COME NEAR THIS PLACE!
