This was a new soccer field for us. The roads are so bad in the back and once your in the park the road roads are so bumpy. And the smell is bad the first time here there's huge dumpsters and port a potties too I guess the heat didn't help also. But hopefully they can clean it up The fields are massive and hundreds of parents and kids coming in and out of the park. We had bought a 2day pass. And if our nephew wins we be back on Sunday. The Slammers won all 3 games and advanced we came back for the Championship but it was tie score And they had a intense 3-3 score So they had a penalty kicks on both teams 5 from each teams and The Slammers didn't make it. I came out here for the Food and Wine Festival in 2023 for Industry Day (the last day) and the driving directions were obscure and not very clear with signage. Was worried I'd get lost.... But found rows of porto potties and just parked near an entrance with security. I'd say bring a hat or an umbrella for shade and wear closed toed shoes since the ground covering is either sand, grass or dirt. I recall the weather was hot and drink water often while spitting out the wine samples or you will get drunk quickly. read more

It's so interesting to see that Surf Sports Park is used for all kinds of events based on the other reviews here... I've been to this venue for many a soccer tournament over the years, so that's the focus of this review. As others have shared, the venue seems to be a well oiled machine in terms of parking and accessibility... that being said, you pay for it! Every time I go watch my kids play soccer (after having spent plenty of $$ for the club team participation, the travel, etc... I'm also paying another $35 for parking at this venue! If you're heading here for soccer, definitely figure out which field you're playing on in advance so you can park closeby. Also, I'd suggest hitting the restroom before so you can limit the number of visits to the pretty nasty porta-potties! Aside from the above and the typically muddy parking lots, the fields are well taken care of and allow for some high level soccer. There are plenty of hotels, stores and restaurants nearby, so it does make for a fun destination... especially if your kids' team does well :) read more

Surf Sports Park can have 2 stars for the good quality soccer pitches with nice soft surfaces and green grass. They are better than the hard-packed, limestone-laced, weed-infiltrated, wind-blasted, gosh-forsaken patches of dirt we call soccer fields in Austin. Otherwise, I would prefer not to return to Surf Sports Park. The experience of a big soccer event at Surf is expensive, inconvenient, and frustrating. $20 daily fee for a couple of hours is a rate for a paved downtown lot. For a dusty unpaved rural lot with porta potties, it's crass and insulting. Unfortunately, the high parking fee does not buy competent or humane traffic management. No exaggeration, it took almost an hour to get out of the parking lot after our final game. The traffic management staff are incompetent, from the flaggers at the single lane chokepoint exit to whoever is operating the stoplight at the horrible, gridlocked T intersection at Via De La Valle. If this facility can collect over $100,000 for a single day in parking fees, then Surf management should bring in police officers qualified to manage traffic flow. read more

Manager: please coordinate a player drop off location at the main entrance between fields, circled location on attachment. Coordinate more parking for handicap & expecting mothers parking. Came here for the Surf Cup. They charged a good amount for parking. We paid $50 for a three day pass or it would've been $20 a day. The whole facility was really nice. The fields were well kept. They had a truck driving around spraying water on the ground so there wouldn't be dust flying everywhere, I'm assuming that was the reason. The only bathrooms were porta potty's. Parking is brutal, not paved, filled with rocks and dusty. Expect to get windshield chips, damaged suspension and vehicle will become extra dirty. Ingress and egress is terrible. Budget an extra 30 minutes just to get in and out of this place. IMO this is a safety issue. Most fields are ok and I would grade them as a B-. Parking fees are outrageous (minimum $20, sometimes more per day just for a few hours) given what you get. They could use that money to pave and improve the lot. read more

I totally loved this "venue" for the Del Mar Food And Wine Festival and the only little "ding" is the lack of shade, especially when the sun is beating down on the attendees. Other than that, it's a beautiful spot with fairly easy access for rideshares to pick you up and drop you off so you can fully indulge in the food and drinks at the festival. Another note is that the venue has a perfectly flat landscape the has been perfectly maintained with soft grass and assuring that you won't find a hole in the ground and twist an ankle - believe me, I've taken a misstep or two at a rival festival before. Really looking forward to many more events here and I have no doubt that frequency will just make it a more well-oiled machine. read more

Attended the Del Mar Wine + Food fest and this was a great venue for it. It's a flat open space that made it accessible and easy to walk around a revisit our favorite booths. They had multiple lines to get through security and ticketing which made the process quick so we could go and enjoy the festival. read more

This sports park is humongous! They have about 21 games of soccer going on at the same time. There is a lot of distance to walk to a game, and if you have disability problems forget it unless you have a wheelchair. None of the employees out there racing around in golf carts would never think to give you a ride to or from the parking lot. They do have emergency services for the players so that's good! City Tournaments are on-going. Not just local soccer teams, but they come from LA, Fresno, and further beyond. The fields are in fantastic shape. Problem is this place was built on a garbage dumping area. So, if you are going to a game in summer and it's warm out there, we'll you might need a gas mask, as it gets dam smelly!!!!! Today is was quite chilly all the air was fine! Oh, by the way their price to get in is now $15 per car. read more

How will residents on Via de la Valle evacuate in the event of an emergency? We are already blocked by the thousands of people/cars that regularly attend events there. We live on a 2 lane road. That is our only way out. In 2007, we were evacuated to the west due to fires. Surf Cup did not exist. Now it hosts thousands of people on a regular basis. Since those of us that live here and Surf Cup attendees will be completely gridlocked, should we all just run? People were forced to run in the deadly disaster fire in Lahaina. So many innocent people perished. We are scared and beyond concerned for everyone's safety. read more

The fields are maintained well. It's a shame that it costs so much for parking. We went to my cousins soccer games and she made it to the semifinals (yay!) and we had to pay another $12... we had already paid a total of $24 the two days before for parking. I thought the finals would be free, or at least cheaper. The road is awful. Rocky and dusty. So don't bring a nice car...it will get ruined. They also don't have a lot of handicap parking, which stunk because we brought my grandma who is in a wheelchair. read more

First time to Surf Sports Park and wow! I had no idea how big this place is! I recently attended the Del Mar Wine + Food Festival and my first impression was that I was shocked at how many parking stations they had which made the line going in move quickly. It was very easy to get in and out and the staff were very friendly. Now to the festival, this is the perfect place for this event! So many events you feel crammed in and can't find your group and this was just the complete opposite. It was organized so perfectly. I just wish more events were as spacious as this one. The parking is so bad it's a deal breaker for me. You need to be here so early to fight for a parking spot or you may never get to see your player play. Luck is the only thing you have going for you to get in and find parking in a reasonable amount of time. I hope we never get signed up for a tournament here again. read more

Horrible experience. It's all about cutting corners on the coaching, training, in order to get as much money for the owners. The coaching is practically non-existent. Our granddaughter and the rest of the team was put down by their coaches and told they were lazy. Who does that? read more

I have been to a lot of sports complexes similar to this and this one it the worst yet. 1. The road to get in and out is dismal at best. 5 mph max to keep from destroying your suspension. 2. The only facilities are porta-potties. UCK!! 3. The field number was changed at the last moment. We wasted time looking for a field that didn't even exist that day. 4. The center referee for the game I went to watch, 11:00 Saturday November 4th on field 2, was an insult to referees everywhere. He was horrible. The worst officiated game I have ever witnessed. The home team was allowed to do whatever they wanted, so they did. There were only 3 fouls called on the home team and were all called by the ARs. There should have been 4 or 5 times that many. The horrible referee didn't cause the loss, The home team was the better team. He just made the mockery of the game and, worst of all, made it unsafe. I am pretty sure he knew exactly who signed his check. Horrible Roads + Nasty Facilities + Unannounced Field Changes + Obvious Biased Referees = A Really Horrible Venue. I am shocked they are still in business. If I never attend another event at this facility, it will be too soon. BTW - The pitch was in good shape. read more

Participate at your own risk. Very volatile environment. The game next to ours broke out into a brawl. The coach led the charge, chasing down the ref and punching him in the face. The players & some parents joined, all stomping the ref, with players pushing over the few sane observers trying to stop the violence, so they could get their licks in. On our field, the opposing players openly called our black players the "N" word (loud enough for the sidelines to hear) with no consequences. Most refs and ARs don't speak any English, some barely. The opposing teams leave trash everywhere when they leave, with our coach and players cleaning up after them to practice dignity. The opposing players regularly committed violent fouls, sometimes with no call. We escaped any serious injuries, but saw a few games stopped to cart injured players off the field. Some incidents involved an ambulance. Some of the fields were great. We got one game on a good field. The rest were on bumpy, small fields with grass that was too long. It was $50 to park, and teams must stay in hotels designated by the tournament, which are generally $400 or more per night and 30 minutes or more away from the field. My son's team plays ECNL and was in one of the higher tiers. I can't imagine how the lower levels would have gone if ours was this bad. Yes, you get some college recruiter exposure at this tournament. But the risk is high. Play at your own risk. I suggest the organizers start punishing the types of teams (there are many) that are creating 90% of the problems here. And hire even halfway competent officials. read more

The Surf Cup is a complete sham of politics and Southern California soccer. The tournament is horse crap wrapped in a 45 dollar parking spot that will leave your car caked in dirt, the fields will give your player a rash, and expect the refs to be unskilled, untrained, and unprofessional. read more

So Cal sports complex has some of the worst field quality I have ever seen. Referees were terrible, linesmen had no clue what offside was. Highly disappointing for a tournament that has high calibre teams in the top groupings. Games should not be decided by a referee but they were. Do yourself a favor if you are travelling from outside of southern california, find a location with proper fields and properly trained officials. read more

Great tournament, the best competition, and very well organized. The downside is the bathroom situation. Port-a-potty's are nasty and far and few in between. Last year the food trucks were right next to the main tent area. This year, they're too far for the kids to go to so we just leave and eat at a restaurant by our hotel, or elsewhere.
