Hands down the Best! The cod burritos are packed with fish no rice it has cabbage almost like coleslaw without the mayo. The chicken tacos had plenty of chicken. You get what you pay for it is pricier than Taco Bell and Chipotle. They have amazing salsa.... I just wished they put the corn chips in a box or foil rather than the bottom of the bag. read more

I'm a huge fan of Surf Taco, this was my first visit to this location. While not my favorite from an aesthetic standpoint, the food and service here did not disappoint. The location geographically is clutch because it is very close to the Garden State Parkway. All the other locations are a decent distance from the GSP. This is my favorite Surf Taco location. It's an independently owned establishment, but they many locations around the Jersey Shore. The word on the street is that the concept was brought here by a native of the area who moved out to California for a while. When he came back home, he saw the need for a hip, fast-casual California restaurant. Surf Taco definitely fills that void. Believe it or not-- I actually like the Forked River location the best. It just seems more cheerful to me. I've been to the Ship Bottom, Red Bank, Jackson, Silverton, and Seaside Park locations. All of them are good, but Forked River stands out, IMHO. It's great if you're just a single guy or a businessman on your way somewhere. You want something better quality than fast food, but you don't want waitress service at a restaurant. It's also good for parents with kids because you will be out of there fast enough before your kids get ants in their pants, and you don't have to worry about disrupting other patrons at a more formal restaurant. Oh, and I just love the salsa bar. I am assuming that they make it themselves. The garlic shrimp burrito I have ordered several times. read more

This is hands down the best fast casual taco place in New Jersey. Unfortunately they only have locations by the central jersey shores and one in Florida. Whenever I'm in the area this is a MUST. They have many different options, and they have a hot sauce bar which is fantastic- they make all their sauces on the premise. read more

Stopped in for a quick lunch. Nice place in a strip mall. Wasn't too busy for the later lunch crowd. I decided to order two tacos. The surf taco and the teriyaki chicken taco. Each taco comes in their own basket with tortilla chips. Kinda makes ordering multiple tacos strange. The surf taco is a fish taco. Tasted really good and fresh. Didn't fall apart. The teriyaki chicken was a bit overstuffed with cheese and lettuce, but was great. The chicken was good and the pineapple pieces were a nice sweet kick. Good little spot to grab lunch. read more

Surf taco has a great salsa bar that is complimentary with any meal, however the tacos in my opinion are overall just okay (above average on a good day). The restaurant itself could be cleaner, and the wait staff isn't as attentive as they could be. read more

I have to say I am a bit let down by this place. I hear great things but we don't seem to be there on good nights. Tables and floor are usually a little too sticky, the chips are usually stale, the sauce pots get that crust around them, and the food is just bland. We have been here several times on different days and nights and sorry to say it's always the same scenario. For what they charge I would expect it to be much better. read more

I love surf taco! This staple of the Jersey Shore has stayed consistent as one of my favorite restaurants and go-to's for both a dinner out and quick to-go. I am a sucker for their chicken teriyaki dishes, which includes the aloha wrap, chicken teriyaki taco, and Hawaiian salad. I highly recommend any of these dishes if you are not a big fan of fish or seafood. They are also great if you want something familiar but with a taste of something different (fresh pineapple is the secret ingredient!). The chips and salsa bar are also a great addition to dining in at surf taco. The staff has always been cooperative and if I call ahead for a to-go order, I have rarely had to wait more than 10 minutes for my food. read more

Whenever I'm craving quick, delicious Mexican food and I'm not near a Chipotle, Surf Taco is always a great choice. The food is always made to order and not microwaved like Taco Bell probably does. It has a nice California feel to it on the inside. My usual order is either the chicken burrito or the chicken and cheese quesadillas. I know you might be thinking that its hard to mess up either but I am particularly fond of both. Another great choice is the garlic shrimp tacos. I feel bad for writing this review, because generally I am a huge Surf Taco fan in both Silverton and Jackson. I ordered here twice and both experiences were below Surf Taco standards. I know this place isn't a fancy restaurant but food shouldn't be this bad. I ordered the Maverick Burrito and the Costa Rican burrito, both once received looked like a churro. If you don't know what that is it's a stick looking desert. Usually the burritos are huge and filled right. Not here, the tortilla was even unraveling once I received it. Literally looked it looked like it took 5 seconds to make, thrown in a basket, and given to a poor shmuck. That poor shmuck was me. Both times the burritos I ordered were falling apart and small. On top of the food being really crappy, so was the establishment itself. The salsa bar was messy and overall look of the place had what I would call a lingering sense of "no one caring." I ordered no cheese both times, and long and behold, cheese in my burrito given to me by a high school student who looked like he just smoked a fat blunt. Would I come here again, naaaa. read more

The other day was my first time at a Surf Taco in almost a decade, and it was still really good! My girlfriend and I both got the two taco special, which included chips and beans and a fountain drink. We each got the fish taco and a shrimp taco with a mango slaw on it. I dug the slaw, and really enjoyed the sauce on the fish tacos. With each taco, they have two tortillas so it keeps the structural integrity of the taco as you eat it. The tacos were super flavorful, the beans were just ok. I loved the salsa bar, the spicer salsas had a ton of flavor. Service was good, and I love that they've got the fancy soda machine. Anywhere that lets me get a cherry vanilla Dr. Pepper gets bonus points in my book. I'll definitely have to make another Taco Surf visit! read more

I come to Surf Taco for the Tsunami Burrito and Quesadillas. The Tsunami is a massive burrito, which is actually made of two burritos, that are lined up end to end and covered in cheese. They have a competition that if you finish it in 15 minutes you get your get your picture on the wall. I've done it but no picture. Does surf taco ever disappoint? No. After visiting 5 of their locations, with this one being the most recent, I can say that with confidence. We were in the area visiting the Popcorn Park Zoo and were pretty hungry once we finished there. As fans of Surf Taco, I was happy to see that this location was only a few miles away from the zoo. This location is in a strip mall, which didn't seem too busy on this particular Saturday. There were only about two other groups of people eating inside the place, which was nice and a lot different from the atmosphere of the other Surf Taco locations we have been to. The entire place was very clean, including the tables and soda machine, which can sometimes be a sticky mess. Both me and my boyfriend ordered the Jenk's Burrito minus the sour cream. I highly recommend this burrito if you're looking for something that will certainly satisfy you after a long day. Each entree comes with chips, which goes great with the unlimited salsa bar. The salsa bar offers all different types of salsa, ranging from Verde to Spicy. I usually go for a taste of all of them! read more

Needed a quick snack for the 1.5hr drive back home after picking up another toy to add to my collection, it was the only choice before going into the Parkway. They had 3 huge bowls of salsa, regular, verde and spicy. Damn those bowls were huge. Ordered the Surf fish taco - one soft taco plus chips. Taco was pretty good, there's some crunch on the top and the cabbage was crisp. The fish was pretty pathetic though, no flavor or seasoning whatsoever. A little bit of a dull Surf Taco location, but a Surf Taco none the less. Food was equally as good. I was slightly disappointed in the amount of chorizo in my potato and chorizo taco. It was basically non-existent. Salsa were restocked while we were there. Super fresh. My biggest issue is just the space. It was tiny and cold. Kind of took away from the feel you want when you enjoy coastal cuisine. It was good. I would definitely go back. Just not the best Surf Taco location I've been to. read more

I had a training for work so this place was the closest restaurant on a time crunch. Ordered the special of mango shrimp tacos and waited and waited. Imagine my surprise when I open the bag and see 1 tiny little taco. Most places an order of tacos means two tacos but apparently it doesn't here. For $6, the taco was nothing special. It was a flour tortilla with two pieces of shrimp and some cabbage and a few minuscule pieces of mango.. Such a disappointment! Maybe I am spoiled but stop by any Mexican restaurant and you can buy two soft tacos brimming with fixings for $4. It seems like this place is for those who haven't experienced tacos. There aren't any Surf Tacos by my house so I won't go out of my way to eat here in the near future. read more

Some times when I'm here for a late dinner around closing I get stale chips but that can be avoided if you get there earlier. I love the buffalo soldier and the salmon taco. All i can say is whatever you do, do not order the beef taco. It is served in a large amount of water and there is no good way to pick it up without the pile of soggy mush disintegrating back into the puddle. Used to be a huge fan of Surf Taco, but it has lost it's appeal. Went in today for a quick order to-go. I got a go-to favorite of mine, Garlic Shrimp Burrito. While waiting, I was able to look into the kitchen from where I was standing in the dining room. It looked really dirty and disorganized. Chips were crushed all over the floor from inside the kitchen to out near the register... For only opening an hour ago, the store should not be this messy. The workers were just standing around laughing and chatting, when they should have been cleaning the floor. The past few visits I've noticed how quickly the food is made. I'd rather wait a few extra minutes for quality food, then be served in 60 seconds with mediocre burritos. Got the burrito home, and immediately noticed it was smaller than normal. Shrimp tasted odd, and it definitely wasn't garlicky. The appearance of the kitchen probably turned me off. Hopefully the other locations are being taken care of better than this one. read more

I love Surf Taco, just not this one. I ordered for pick up at 7pm but asked for it to be ready at 745. That's 45 minutes to make 2 burritos. I get there and my email now says it will be ready at 755. Not a huge deal but I have a toddler and if I'd known it would take longer I wouldn't have added the courtesy of picking it up in 45 minutes instead of ASAP. Then there was no coke. Waste of $2 to get a drink that I didn't want that was as flat as a fart. Last but not least they ALWAYS forget the kids drink. It says "with chips and a drink" right on their menu. I love Surf Taco. The entire concept just works, people just want to eat there and look cool. The food is so good and prepared carefully with fresh ingredients. The staff is always helpful and serves with a smile. I especially love it that I can just go to the salsa bar and not have to ask and wait.
