Well the renovations must have cost them their decency. They nickel and dime everything. They no longer include chips with your meal (burrito, tacos etc) The chicken fingers comes with spicy sauce and when you ask to swap it for something else you can't. So you get the spicy stuff and have to pay $1.60 for a tiny ass cup of sauce. Btw they no longer have regular ranch, it's loaded with cilantro. There's bugs all over the place. Nowhere to sit. The salsa bar is no longer bowls with scooping spoons, it's in pourable containers that bartenders keep juice in. The salsa all separates and has no lid so you can't "shake" it up. The bowls were better because you could swirl it around. It's over priced anymore. Not gonna be going back any time soon. read more

Waited over 30 min for 4 tacos. The beef taco was disappointing. Had a weird after taste. The unapologetic kid behind the register said it was because they only had two cooks. I'm sorry even if there was only 1 cook my order shouldn't have taken that long. Very annoying. read more

Another solid Surf Taco location. Been enjoying Surf Taco for 20+ years and living in PA now, this is the most convenient location for me to go to when visiting family. The Surf Taco fish tacos are my absolute favorite and I always get two when I stop by. My wife has always been a fan of their taco salads. I also recently enjoyed their variation of a crunch wrap, which was delicious. What makes the food even better is the fresh salsas. I like to mix the mild and Baja 50-50, and also love the verde. Salsas are great with their chips, which come with everything, and I always put some on my tacos too. Best part is that the salsas are all self serve so you can get exactly what you want and as much as you want. And this location has a drive through, which makes for fast pickup when you order online. This is more of a warning to always check your food from here. I never had an issue before but I ordered a Malibu veggie burrito and when I got home and ate the end of the burrito, I quickly learned I was given the wrong burrito. It was a fish and chicken burrito. I've been a vegetarian for 30 years and would not have been happy if I did eat the fish or chicken and it could have been really bad if someone had a food allergy. They replaced the burrito but lesson learned...check your food from here before eating it! read more

This place is always excellent. I've been going to all of the Surf Taco locations for years and they never disappoint. Just as they present themselves with fresh and good quality ingredients. Staff is always friendly and attentive to keeping the pace clean. On two different occasions, my special order got messed up and it was resolved quickly, with apology. In my last few trips I noticed that they've done some revamping with new dishes, renamed salsa, slightly different recipes, like the soup and slaw in the tacos. All good. Consistently inconsistent. Burritos have one full bite of tomatoes, the next all rice, then all lettuce... Order the same thing every time and it never tastes the same. Sometimes the chicken in completely unseasoned and the next you're choking from the salt in the teriyaki sauce. Quality of ingredients has gone down and it's very noticeable. Bring back pineapple with actual flavor. Such a shame. Beautiful menu, but food doesn't deliver. read more

This chain Tex-Mex restaurant doesn't ever fail my belly! Nachos are always warm and fresh. Add steak to the quesadilla for an extra satisfying full taste. I actually purchase a regular size quesadilla to split with two kids as their portions are big enough. It also comes with a side of nachos. Add ground beef to a taco bowl. The buffalo chicken in a bowl is my favorite! Give your taste buds a twist and add ranch instead of blue cheese. Walk to the register to place your order and be gladly greeted. Surf Taco has been Coastal Cuisine for +/- decade. The menu has gotten larger and possibly better. I will honestly rate what limited food I had here. The procedure is you order at the register take a numbered placard and they will serve it to you as per your order. One of the girls /servers told me that they now serve dessert. I ordered carne asada. That's fried beef in a taco shell, with pico de gallo cilantro and avocado. Very tasty yet small for $5.95. At an adjoining counter there are four salsas. From Benign to some semblance of Heat. My two lady friends ordered something similar to what I had. They also shared a dessert, they said a healthy dessert Rio Bowl. Check it out, I didn't. My favorite Mexican restaurant, period. Their classic quesadilla with chicken is to absolutely die for. Portions are good, they're what you pay for. I just placed an order about an hour ago. My girlfriend has a GF allergy so I needed the chicken taco on corn tortilla, I said that when we ordered. I got the order made sure it was corn tortilla and it wasn't, so I made them change it. For beach food I'd say this place is decent. I ordered the Baja Surf burrito with blackened mahi. The fish was a little overdone but the flavor was good. I had to open the burrito to eat it because the ingredients weren't present throughout so I couldn't get all the flavors in one bite. The sauces were good and the chips that came with the meal were good as well. The food was ready fast too. No wait time when we arrived to pick it up. read more

Apparently the owner of Surf Taco is originally from the area, and then he spent a number of years in Sunny California. When he returned home, he was disappointed with the lack of fun, coastal cuisine here, so he started Surf Taco to fill that void. I definitely think he succeeded. Although I wouldn't recommend the place to everyone, it fulfills my needs very well. Surf Taco is not meant to be Mexican food. It's meant to be a sort of fusion of California, beach, and Mexican-American, and it succeeds. The workers there tend to be young and hip. They seem to enjoy working there. They will always bring the food out to you after you order. It's a fast-casual restaurants, which I really like. I want to be able to order good food, which is better than McDonald's, but sometimes I don't want waitress service. I rather just order from the counter and sit. If I need anything, I can just get it myself. Surf Taco is pretty good if you have kids. You can have decent food--better than fast food--but once your kids start getting ants in their pants, you can go. You don't have to feel as if you are bothering the other patrons in a serious, sit-down restaurant. read more

It's more California fresh tacos rather than what I consider Mexican. But it's still pretty amazing. Lots of parking. Went right in and ordered my garlic shrimp burrito. You get a number and sit right down where they bring you your food. They also have one of those freestyle soda machines (yes!). Got myself some of my favorite cherry vanilla coke zero! The burrito finally came out, perfect size and very refreshing, delicious, fresh shrimp, and great garlic flavor. I was definitely a fan of the burrito. The chips that came with them? Meh. Could've done without them. No salt. No flavor. Just there. Then came dessert. Went back up and ordered the Fried Banana with Ice Cream drizzled with caramel and chocolate. Being a north Jersey guy, I don't get the chance to have some Surf Taco, so when I travel for work and head down in this direction, I make it a priority to get me some Surf Taco. Stopped at this location just a week or two ago as I was in the area for work. It was about noon on a sort of crummy day, so it wasn't too full. I've heard awesome things about this place so i happened to spot it while driving down the shore. I decided to head here with some fraternity brothers for lunch. The reviews i heard were not wrong! damn this food was delicious. This month they were having $1 beef tacos so i got 3 of those and it came with chips. I got waffle fries and a soda as well. The prices are usually a little expensive but the deal i got was amazing, the whole meal ran me like $9 and i ate like a king. The tacos were awesome but the meat was a little plain in flavor, not bad though. The chips were great and they have an awesome salsa bar! I absolutely loved this place!!! All of the ingredients are as fresh as can be. The value for your dollar is there. Pretty close to being authentic Mexican from a place called Surf Taco. If you drive a truck or limo it doesn't matter what size you are in there is plenty of parking behind the building. The only thing that I could think of that would make this place better is beer. The staff was polite and courteous and the restaurant was clean as well as the restrooms. Aside from beer I would also add some more spicy items on the menu maybe made with for the slightly daring jalapeños all the way up to habenero for the true heat lovers.
