We placed an order for 3 chips and salsa and 3 meals which are supposed to come with chips and salsa, also. We got 6 orders of chips and no salsa. When I called they said takeout orders are supposed to get the salsa themselves. How am I supposed to know that? It makes no sense when we have the rest of the entire order. I got the combo plate option 2 with the garlic shrimp tacos. I ordered the food to go, never been here before but thought I'd try it. Anyway, the rice is dry, no flavor to it. I'm not a fan of black beans, but it caught me off guard that it's part of the order and not refried beans. I already was pissed for what I saw, I thought I was back in the military, because that's what I got served was military sized portion of dry food and then I opened the tacos, you get three unseasoned shrimp, in a HUGE flower tortilla, with some over kill of slaw with "lime" sauce, no hint of lime, and "pick de gallo" which was really wet tomato. I wish I could have ordered my food and stayed and ate there to exchange it out, but that's what I get trusting a place I didn't know. Don't eat here, if you want good food go to beacon 70, they're not a taco joint, BUT at least they know how to add flavor to their tacos and I'm sure their rice and beans are actually worth eating. Love going to this location best. Not sure if all locations are required to do the same but one of the reasons why I love this location is because the portion size is slightly bigger than others and it really makes a difference. The owner is always there and everything is pretty much very consistent. I've never had a bad meal from here and everything is always so fresh. I live 10 minutes from the Jackson location but refuse to go to that one and that one even has a bar. I rather drive the 20 minutes to go to the silverton location. read more

Decided to try out surf taco tonight since I was craving fish tacos. Well I called at 7:52pm to make sure that they were still open and still taking orders, the response I received was "sure we are still taking orders, what can I get you?" So then I said give me a minute let me find out what everyone wants and I'll call you right back, I specifically asked "why are you closing soon?" She then said no take your time. When I called back at 7:57 to place my order I was told the grill was turned off. I was literally already in the parking lot. To say that I'm ticked off is an understatement. Cute little place never heard of them before tonight. Walked in ordered the Salmon taco, a chicken Taco and a steak burrito. All tasteless under seasoned and lacking any spices. All the salsa they offered were right out of a can. No fresh cilantro no fresh onions or jalepenos no peppers. No flavor. We ate our food like you would eat a bowl of oatmeal . Not happy. We left vowing never to return. Fresh mex? Baja ? Don't think these guys have ever been out of NJ let alone to the Baja coast. There is a well-worn story about me going through that supposedly unintentional, yet common and thoroughly passive-aggressive manifestation of father-son resentment, and I can't stand the food at Surf Taco. So let's discount that. I suppose, then, it boils down to hype, image, and the expectations associated with those. Well, don't believe the hype. Surf Taco, here, in Pt. Pleasant, anywhere, is awful. Unappetizing slop. By means of example, if you like the eponymous "Surf Taco", the cause is very simple: you have know idea of what good food tastes like. Defend my assertion, you demand? Okay. Good food has flavor. Some kind - any kind. Unseasoned, lightly fried generic white fish (cod, in this case), wrapped in a tortilla with shredded cabbage, has no taste beyond tortilla and lettuce, and neither of those things are particularly assertive in flavor. The whole thing is filler. People in Latin America and even West Africa likely sneak into the United States so as not to have to eat this kind of thing, which we gladly pay for. What a crazy place in which we live. It could just be that I don't like fish tacos. I have to say, in terms of the mental pictures they evince, they do sound pretty awful, despite the fact that I like both fish and tacos. But I am not a slave to my preconceptions. Perhaps I should try something else on the menu, then? No. If you're going to offer a signature dish, or in this case, a foil-wrapped mountain of blah verging on vile, it had better live up to the anticipation of tasting it that you've built up, and in this case, it absolutely does not. Not here, or at any otther location, because I have tried several. I do not buy it. I don't buy the flavor, the image, the feel, the vibe... none of it. Surf Taco is a gimmick, and I refuse to buy into it, because the currency of my integrity is too valuable to throw away on food that tastes like something at which my cats would (and do) turn their noses up. Now, when it comes to my dogs, they'll eat anything. And rest assured, they have chowed down on more than one unwanted Surf Taco. read more

Really good taco place! I got the surf taco and it was really tasty. The only problem was that it had a little too much slaw on too which took away from the flavor a bit. The chips that came with it were pretty ordinary but the sauce options for them were pretty great. I go to college in New York and when I come home I always stop here. The price point is unbeatable for the quality. I have seen a lot of prices vs. quality in my time in the city but here's the thing- Surf Taco literally beats them all. It's cheap, delicious, and healthy. On top of that, it's fresh. You can see and taste the flavors of your food. When I go here me and the bae grab the Tsunami to split, but if I'm alone I'll get the Aloha wrap or the garlic shrimp taco. I grab the smoothies when I have extra cash to spend. Sometimes the food is the teeniest bit soggy but I don't complain because I love having more of the sauces. Once again, what you get for your money here is great. Can never complain! read more

I usually get the Maverick Burrito which never leaves me hungry. My second favorite is the taco salad which is served in a crunchy taco shell. Recently tried the garlic shrimp burrito which I subbed lettuce instead of cabbage. It was delicious, filling, and left me less guilty than gorging on say, the Buffalo Soldier burrito (which I also recommend if you like Buffalo chicken!). Check out the specials board. They almost always have buffalo calamari- try it! It's actually very good. Don't knock it until you've tried. The salsa bar is great and the soda machine customizes your flavor choices. The Aloha wrap is a great lighter choice and smoothies are all tasty. Staff is friendly, polite, and quick. I usually stop in for a quick bite during a class break when I'm at school for 12 hours- it's a nice refreshing atmosphere to relax for a minute! read more

I've been to a couple of the other Surf Taco locations including Long Branch and Belmar, but the Silverton location was a first for me. I like Surf Taco for a few reasons 1). It's reasonably priced 2). The food is good 3). I never leave hungry 4). It's always fun to collect the stickers All of these things make me a happy camper and keep me coming back. I personally like the combo #2 which is your choice of 2 tacos plus chips, rice, beans, and a drink. Good stuff in my book. The burritos are also very huge and filling. Sure it's not gourmet or anything like that, but I would come here any day over Chipotle or Qdoba, and I recommend you do the same! read more

I thought it was just me but I had several different orders for folks from the office and they all agreed that it wasn't the best taste experience. My burrito was very bland and so was the salsa. This particular location could use a bit of a cleaning as the floors are sticky like a movie theater. The parking lot is no where near big enough to handle all the traffic. I've tried alot of their tacos and burritos and have never had anything that I didn't like. Nice laid back atmosphere. Perfect fish tacos; got the surf (fried cod), simple and perfect and a mahi mahi which was grilled, came with avocado and was quite spicy. Both tacos were awesome. Listen I was born and raised in San Diego so I know mexican food, who ever compared this to Rubios is on crack..... That being said this place really deserves a 3.5. Their burritos are huge and pretty good. I Really love their bowls because they use real fresh food. But its thier own style. They aren't trying to be southern CA style, they are just NJ Beach style. I mean the bowls had grilled pepper and onions in it, which I will order without next time. Their salsa bar is ok, which they had a hotter sauce. My Cousin LOVED their fried Calamari. I do wish they were more Gluten Free Friendly. This is Not CALI style people, its very good for the area. Though not a fan of the area this Surf Taco is in (soooo muchhh traffic) its just as good as any of the others. it loses a point because the last times I have been there in February and in April it has been freezing. You're not going to find better mexican fast food anywhere else near by. Don't expect to pay $4 like you would at McDonald's, the food here is way better and is worth the $6 - 8 for a decent size meal. Still cheaper than Chipotle. I've eaten/ordered from here many times and have never been disappointed. The menu is huge and they have a self serve salsa bar with plenty of variety. Staff has always been friendly and helpful.
