Some of the best French toast I've ever had. [[HIGHLIGHT]]A cute brunch spot with both indoor and outdoor seating.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I really enjoyed my meal. Our servers were very attentive, constantly refilling our waters and asking if we needed anything else. They even gave us a couple free scones for my pregnant wife on our way out! I would definitely return next time I'm in the area.

We went here recently after a local doctors appointment. It was an overcast day, so we sat inside. Service was on the slow side for two people, although we watched a large table get served much faster. I was a bit disappointed on this visit versus the previous years. It feels like both the service and the quality of service is slipping. They used to have fresh squeezed OJ and it turned out to be more of a carton Tropicana style product now. Definitely not the same. [[HIGHLIGHT]]On a brighter note, they do have fresh roasted coffee and are dog friendly.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]], #TheCottage #Encinitas #FreshBrewedCoffee #NoFreshSqueezedJuice

Perfectly poached eggs! I usually get the pancakes or french toast, but this visit, I opted for something savory as I got a sweetened latte. I came midweek to meetup with friends and was grateful that the server did not rush us. Short and sweet review; I will definitely be back! Pros: - friendly - [[HIGHLIGHT]]al fresco and indoor dining[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] - plenty of parking Cons: - chalkboard prices did not match what I was charged - [[HIGHLIGHT]]scent of burning candles was horrible; made the whole interior smell like the restroom[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Apparently this restaurant has been there for 4 years! How did I miss this?!?! This restaurant is great... the food was delicious and being vegetarian they catered to my every food need. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The atmosphere is inviting and cute.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]There are many tables inside and out with lots of parking.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Service was great, staff was friendly, and I will definitely go back! Stopped by for a Mother's Day breakfast with a large group and everything turned out great! We got there early on Saturday morning and we were seated as soon as at least 8 of our guests were present. They were so kind and accommodating. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We got seated near the restrooms and it felt like we had our own private area, it was amazing.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] It's not easy taking orders for a group of 10+ but the waitress was fantastic. We requested separate checks and she did a great job of taking everyone's order correctly and checking in on us. There were two other gentleman that were also very attentive and helpful. My grandmother ordered a plate with salmon and it was a bit too salty for her taste buds and one of the gentleman (not sure if he was a cook) made sure to take care of that. He gave her some recommendations of different dishes and brought her out a new plate. We really appreciated the time and effort it took to make sure our entire group was taken care of. This was my first time here and I will definitely be coming back. Also loved their chai latte it was so yummy! [[HIGHLIGHT]]They have seating inside and outside.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] It is located in a shopping center with lots of other businesses so there is a shares parking lot.

My kids love to head over to the cottage for brunch or lunch. We have never had a bad meal here. Our last visit we had breakfast. I had an egg scramble with a fresh scone and potatoes. Our table also had a Benedict and their homemade Mac and cheese. (Yes for breakfast) The service at this location is always very attentive and they take care of their regulars. [[HIGHLIGHT]]They have ample indoor and outdoor seating.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]A great casual spot for a weekday or weekend.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Many years ago I dined at The Cottage in La Jolla so when they opened in Encinitas I was thrilled. Last week we celebrated my nieces birthday over brunch. Our server was excellent. She was attentive, frequently checked in on us, refilled our iced teas and waters. Her friendly demeanor added to the positive experience. Each dish we ordered was delicious and hot from the kitchen. The cottage is really cute and I appreciate that they locally source their ingredients. The Cottage bakes scones, muffins, and other cakes. Also they have a homemade granola that is tasty. The tough decision is to choose between breakfast or lunch. The one thing that could make the Braised Beef better, the asparagus bottoms were used and they were really stringy and not edible.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Cute space broken into different sections and decorated nicely.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We got a pastrami sandwich, salmon pasta and chicken and goat cheese salad. All the items were delicious and cooked well. Salmon was moist and pasta cooked just right and saucy. Sandwich was flavorful and meat was tender. Bread was soft and fries nice and crispy. Salad was delish and dressed just right and flavors bursting. A wonderful meal. Place was not crowded since we arrived after the typical lunch time but the food took a while to come out. Service was satisfactory but food made up for it.

We absolutely loved the lemon ricotta pancakes--they were delicious. My husband ordered the tuna melt, which was very good, but the portion of fries felt a bit skimpy compared to my previous visit. The last time I ordered a burger, it came with a much more generous serving of fries. Our server was pleasant, though the overall service didn't feel quite as warm and attentive as what I've experienced there in the past.

Mediocre experience all around for brunch this morning. Ambiance was casual and we were sat at the back of the restaurant, which was not as cute as other parts of the restaurant. Service was a hit or miss. Originally our server came super frequently (instantly when we got sat and we politely let him know we weren't ready yet), but then after dropping off the check, nobody came back to grab our card for 10-15 minutes until we proactively asked. Morning Glory Breakfast Sandwich: This was my favorite item out of the three. The sourdough was very good and the produce (tomatoes, arugula) was fresh. Nice balance with the bacon and overall tasty. Potatoes were decent. Joe's Special: Scrambled eggs with mushroom, chicken sausage, spinach. This was good as you would expect, nothing mind-blowing but well executed. Scone wasn't a standout (not too much flavor) and the jam was also average. Stuffed French Toast: This was a little disappointing as this was a specialty item and a popular dish based on reviews. The mascarpone didn't have much taste and half a piece of French toast (out of the three) had a bitter orange zest flavor. Big portions though. Canned soda was $5, but we shouldn't have ordered soda at a brunch place in hindsight. Oh wells!

Leftover cinnamon roll piece in icing

The menu looks delicious and the server Michaela was lovely and they had several bussers refilling water, which created a nice service level. I decided to splurge today, and order in addition to healthy oatmeal, 1/2 serving of Eggs Benedict and cinnamon roll , while husband ordered all American. It was "ok" but did not meet my expectations for the brand and price. - except for the scone that was delicious ! - The bacon was thin, so not the quality / thickness i thought we would get. - The English muffin for the Eggs Benedict was thick and bread-y, not anything close to Thomas English muffin with some crisp, air pockets, and texture, and - the serving size of the potatoes was ok but a bit on the light side for the price. - The cinnamon roll I expected would be a pastry type bread-y less sweet roll - instead while the intense cinnamon flavor was delicious and texture of the bread, lovely on the outside with some crispy crunch inside or under baked and doughy delicious - it came absolutely doused in the thick icing sugar that permeated the entire roll - , so it reminded me of a Cinnabon except better firm texture on the outside and higher quality. people looking for that, will love it. For us it was way too sugary . As I checked out, I was paying my $72 - the server was good enough to ask how I enjoyed everything. I was honest with her and told her that I actually did not. She did the right thing and offered for me to speak to the Mgr. I really didn't feel like doing so because I did not think he would care. However, after she suggested it a second time I went ahead and did it. I Explained to the Manager, I know they're very popular. It's a beautiful menu and the server and scone was wonderful - and this was my experience with the food . I admitted the server suggested I share my feedback with him that I was disappointed and I really didn't know that I would be back. After sharing the above specifics, - he didn't say much, so I just repeated "well she thought I should tell you so I did.". He said "yes it's good to have your feedback", and walked away. That is the first time I've shared negative feedback. - which I do rarely!! - that I truly felt it was Not welcome .and that he didn't care. - and that there was no acknowledgement that he was at least sorry we didn't have a good experience, While I clearly wasn't giving the feedback just to get a discount - I don't know if I've been anywhere that hasn't at least in a case like this done something If I knew my customer was unhappy with their almost $100 meal - I would've not only shown empathy and apologized, but also comped even one item , or maybe even given a gift card to come back and try some other items at another time. What could they improve / for one thing - 1) have on menu description and /or inform servers to give a heads up to adults if the cinnamon roll is being ordered that it is very heavy on the icing. Better yet. Give customers an option to have it without the icing!! However, it is as I suspected , such a successful place- that they have more than enough business, they don't care about mine.

There are gluten-free options, including the bread - but they don't use a dedicated toaster for gluten-free items. So if you are truly "celiac", don't eat the bread.

Do they serve any gluten-free pancakes, waffles, or GF French toast?

    Do they take reservations?

    Are they pet friendly?

Yes, the patio is pet friendly.

To me, the food was 3.5 to 4 stars. I ordered the thai and basil soda mocktail which was super refreshing and not too sweet! The spicy tuna and crispy rice was really good! I ordered the harvest bowl ($26) and added 3 oz. of steak for an additional $15. I didn't think that was a good value for roasted veggies and a small portion of steak. Some of the steak was extremely chewy as well. My friend said the hot honey chicken sandwich was good but there was a lot going on. I did take a bite of the molten butter cake while it was hot and fresh (I ordered it to-go) and the caramel really elevated the cake. Five stars for ambiance and service. The vibe here was smart casual. I did enjoy the aesthetic. Service was A+ with Emily. The manager came over a couple of times to make sure we were comfortable which was super sweet! I would definitely return. I really want to visit for brunch one of these days!

I ordered the mahi mahi fish tacos and a house coffee. The coffee was actually pretty good! Cream and sugar were delivered separately to finish with your preference. As for the tacos, it was okay. The fish was a bit dry for my liking, cabbage could have been chopped with more finesse, and I wished they QC'd their limes a bit before putting them on the plate. Both were bone dry and I had to ask for more. Moreover, the cilantro lime rice was also a bit bland. It needed salt to lift the flavors in my opinion. There weren't even flecks of green if it was supposed to be cilantro? I tried boyfriend's veggie hash but was disappointed to find that it was almost all potatoes. Having said that, it was an extremely generous portion so he was filled up. While I didn't try it, our friend that had the chorizo hash also said it was okay so I'm guessing the ratio wasn't quite right. Anyways, ask for their chili sauce on the side, that's actually quite surprising. It had really good heat and was more like a chili crisp than a vinegary hot sauce. The plates that did score favorably at the table were the carne chilaquiles and the divorced eggs.

I had called earlier that week inquiring about a corkage fee, as well as if there were any brunch drink/mimosa specials (like a bottle w juice type thing most brunch restaurants do on weekends). I was so discouraged by the hostess I almost cancelled my reservation. I purposely made sure to call at an "off time" so as to not be disruptive, and the best answer I got was "ummmm i think the corkage is $25." And to the mimosa question, "yeah I mean, we don't do bottomless but we have mimosas and I think we have a bottle special." So unhelpful- if she didn't know, she should confirm. I believe it was the same hostess when we dined, who, because we ended up seated right next to the dj (more minus points, who wants to be seated there, let alone when he is setting up, and while we made a reservation and were celebrating his birthday), moved us to outside at the front and we could see on her phone texting more than once. So, we sit. Taylor starts our order (very nice!), and we ask about drink specials, she cites of course we can have a bottle of mimosas. But there are no specials. So the bottle of prosecco is $63 plus $5 for orange juice. INSANE. But again, this is why I had called. Had the hostess shared there was nothing offered other than what was online, we coulda brought our own and paid corkage. Since we were led to believe otherwise, we had no alcohol and instead just had coffee. Cue Miles: he took over for Taylor almost immediately. He was AMAZING! So nice, so helpful, really accommodating and just the right amount of suggestions and check ins. Truly, amazing. As was the food. We had the ricotta, the french toast, and the Benedict. All were great. And great prices for the food too. The coffee came out lukewarm and had apparently been brewed quite awhile ago but Miles was happy to bring out fresh. I had put on the reservation that it was a birthday, and Taylor had asked if we were celebrating anything, and I told her it was my boyfriend's birthday, to which she eagerly explained they love celebrating birthdays at Waverly. Imagine my surprise when ultimately it was not again acknowledged or celebrated in any way. Perhaps because Miles took over for Taylor, but if it's on the reservation, you'd think I wouldn't have to address it again, much less multiple times. All in all, a very mixed review- there were some exceptional pieces of our experience (Miles, Taylor briefly, and the actual food), but there were a lot of misses too. Super disappointing that this was a birthday brunch because the misses really impacted the experience.
