Van camped on Silver Strand State Beach during a hurricane.. and boy was it a wild ride…read more This small beach sits on a peninsula in San Diego. It's so far down the coast you can actually spot the lights of Tijuana on your way in. While the trip didn't last long (the weather wasn't very kind) this campsite was impressive. They have access to clean water, bathrooms, and a direct view of the ocean. I really couldn't ask for more. Important to note: The road to the campsite is shut down around 8pm for security reasons. Once the entry to the road is locked, it's around a mile walk to the site itself. This was walk pretty miserable in pouring rain, so I wouldn't suggest Ubering to bars at night. Otherwise, I'd highly recommend this white sandy beach and site for anyone looking for a quick/easy getaway.

Thankfully , we don't swim in the ocean so we are marked safe from the doo-doo . Pricing for beach front was $85 water and electric , no sewage (go figure). You're literally on the beach so we loved that with the view . Staff here needs work.. we were surprised by how rude and dismissive she was. When we arrived she said were too early ( we were THREE minutes early ). I said isn't it almost time ? She snapped at me with "ya well there nobody here to check you in so either wait in line or go park over there" and then walked away . So if you're coming here , just know you'll have to wait in line until the EXACT time. I've been camping since I was a baby and I've never experienced such strict regulations . Other than that , spaces are small so I wouldn't recommend a large trailer . But it was great for three days !

We did the 2 person kayak and originally booked through TripAdvisor but next time, we'll book directly through them after realizing they're a local company. It was around $100 for our 2 person kayak which seemed reasonable for a quick day date. Make sure you're 30 minutes before your booking time so you can check in and get supplies for your activity. For kayaking, it was a 90 min event and it's helpful to wear a swimsuit since you'll get wet and have a chance to swim. They took us through parts by the coast and we got to see lots of different fish and sea lions. Tip; make sure to bring water proof, floating bag for your phone since lockers can be $6 and I wish we would have brought our GoPro for the underwater views. The tour guides Thomas and Spencer were knowledgeable and helpful. We had a few guys who were in our tour that kept going overboard and the guides were patient with them even as the guys got a little annoying with their kayak intentionally tipping a few times. Overall, I'm really glad we went and will be back for other activities with friends and family.

The entire experience was wonderful from start to finish. Captain Josh is legit -- definitely request him! I also had the pleasure of meeting the owner, Art, and he was fantastic too. After calling Cristina to confirm the reservation, I received a text with the same information, and to call if I had any questions. Information is easy to find either through the website or by phone. I booked a two hour excursion on their comfortable pontoon that seats 12, plus Josh, our amiable and entertaining captain. The location was easy to find, parking was plentiful for all of my friends. I loved that you were able to bring pets, and also food and drink (minus red wine- it stains)! Ice was available to purchase, and they were very accommodating if you needed to use the restroom before, during, or after the trip! Check-in and check-out was easy with Charzale's help. It was a fun surprise to be awarded co-captain's hats for mine and my friend's birthdays! We hooked up to the Bluetooth for some music. The tunes were alot louder towards the rear of the boat than at the bow because that's where the speakers were located. So if you wanted to have more conversation, either turn it down or move to the front :) Time flies when you're having fun, and it felt like minutes instead of hours. I would absolutely book this again, perhaps a sunset ride or even a longer trip. I would love to try out the kayaks, paddleboats, and maybe even the jet skis. Everyone loved the cruise and talked about coming back again soon! Thank you so much R&R!
