    Surf's up! Fun with friends!

I meant to write this review awhile back when I was invited to Surfset by a friend of a friend and we had a great time. Its a really hard workout but a really good one. Lots of fun! You don't have to bring anything, just workout clothes, barefoot, and maybe water. Its not really like surfing in water but the balance and exercise make it just as challenging! You will sweat a lot but you will have a great time. I plan to go back sometime soon! So fun

Surfset is such a coooool & effective workout! I took my first class via ClassPass. I love classes with equipment that I can't typically find at the gym. Surfset uses a surfboard on Bosu balls. Surfset NYC offers a few different classes: Blend, Yoga, Burn, Newbie. I tried Surfset Blend for my first class. It was a beginner/intermediate class. There were a mix of regulars and newbies taking the class and the instructor was accommodating to everyone. She offered easy to advance moves throughout the workout. I absolutely loved the class & instructor. It was so much fun and definitely still challenging. It's definitely a sweaty & active workout. In terms of amenities .. there's not much to say. There's one bathroom with a shower attached. Check in is right when you walk in to your right. You place your belongings to the left. The class is taken within the same room. It's just one large studio.

Love the workout!! A must try fitness class for sure. Fun and encouraging environment. Our instructor was Aaron, he went the extra mile of writing down everyone's names and where we were standing in class so when he gives encouragement he actually calls you by your name. It's the details and it works! As many have mentioned the beginning of class your are a bit shaky and wobbly but once you're warmed up and more confident the surf board seems to wobble less. There are a lot of balancing moves on the board as well as lunges squats and some cardio on and off the board. There are times you're paddling like you're in the water. It's like you're surfing without having to get wet or deal with sand! Well you're sort of wet from your sweat. Unique fitness class for sure. All in all a fun class JUST BOOK now!

Variety of classes with different fitness levels. I love the the blend for beginners/intermediate. It's a core strength class with slower controlled movements. We also get to do a lot of pop ups in this class which is great. Easy online class booking, but beware on canceling. There's a 24hr policy. Love the surf fitness!

A bit bare, but plenty of space for about 15 surfers. Cowabunga dude(tte)s!

A welcome addition to Classpass! I first tried Surfset at Chelsea Piers (awesome location as you get access to everything else available in the complex) and wanted to do it regularly.... except there was never any spots! Hoping that Surfset New York City will double my chances of successful booking. Is the location a bit strange (4th floor in the Paradise Factory Theatre Building)? Yes. Is the space a bit bare? Yes. But cut them a break -- it's New York City and they haven't had time to really settle in yet as opening night was yesterday! This is seriously such an awesome, all-encompassing class to get your core, balance, and strength workouts in one! Aaron is super personable and gets you motivated to give it your absolute best (and then some). Also love that the classes (at least the intermediate one) incorporate a good number of yoga balancing poses -- and then intensifies them by requiring you to maintain them on a wobbly board. Siiiiiiiiick dude. I will now go on to book as many classes as I can (reasonably) fit into my schedule. If you spy me at the studio, feel free to say hey!

Scam alert! I wish I…read moreread these reviews prior to signing up for the 6 week challenge. I was motivated and hopeful, especially due to prior positive crossfit experiences at other gyms and learned a big lesson about reading reviews first. To be clear: The 6 week challenge which is falsely advertised as free costs $632. If you lose 25 pounds they say you get your money back. Doing the math, this type of program endorses disordered exercise and eating. It's not healthy to lose that amount of weight in 6 weeks They exploit those that have unrealistic goals, financially. Personally, I am writing because I was supposed to start the 6 week challenge right before COVID and they continued to bill be throughout the gym closures. I explained that I would be willing to transfer the money I already paid into a regular membership following COVID and they refused. I called my credit card company since it is illegal to charge for a gym that is closed due to COVID. The credit card company advised to file a claim. They responded by calling collections. I am confident that the credit card company will handle this for me, but am sickened by these practices overall. Mostly, I am genuinely worried about the mental health of potential consumers in the future. The actual classes are extremely variable since the staff are not well trained. The staff themselves told me that they are not treated properly and that there are is little, inconsistent communication with management. It shows in the classes, and the workouts are not as effective as other crossfit programs I have done as a result.

I have mixed feelings about this. The staff is great, classes are good, great accountability…read morecoaches and awesome community. However, management is awful. They are scammers. Joe ( who refused to provide his last name and direct number) is the most horrible and greedy person I ever encounter. I take he is one of the owners. After the pandemic broke, I reached out to one of the coaches and asked for my membership to be cancelled, the reason being: no longer living in the city and financial hardships. I got an "ok" text message. Months later, I get a charge on my credit card. I was connected to Joe, who wanted to charge me for another month as a cancelation fee, which clearly is not part of the contract, and refused to give me credit for the month charged. After many back and forth emails, he finally understood and agreed a proper notice was given and no extra charges were to be charged to my account. I have on an email with his own words agreeing to this. They stole my money, he is a thief. I had to call my credit company to dispute the charge. They settled to give me a refund, which I was happy. But later, they send me to collections???? For something he agreed and settled?? Talk about ethics. Stay away from this gym, there are far better gyms with better customer service and honesty than WillyB. They are scammers, and as much as I hate to say this: they deserve to close for their terrible customer service ethics.

There is no respect for employees, checks bounced, and the CEO gets a temper when he's hungry like a big baby. I dedicated myself and sacrificed for this job, only for them to have me unknowingly train someone (who had a husband already working there) that would soon basically replace me (without me knowing) and to stop scheduling me all together with no conversation as to why. There was no formal termination, they just stopped contacting me like a bunch of foolish kids. Months later, I went back to inquire about a CPR certificate THEY REQUIRED months before I stopped working there that they never gave me and could not even keep their story straight about why I couldn't get it (said there's invoices to be paid, while an accountant said there isn't), I was upset and told them they should do something about it since they required it. I then heard back about by behavior being unprofessional, when for months I didn't hear a peep when I kept asking about my job standing. Their behavior was disgusting and despicable, they could've had a formal convo with me but no, they just left me hanging and acted like I was the bad guy when in reality they weren't providing the bare minimum (proper communication, checks that didn't bounce, and a required certificate they made me do)! I don't even think there was a real HR there, it's also a waste of money if there's other gyms such as lifetime fitness where it's basically the same price (maybe even slightly cheaper) with wayyyyyyy much more to offer compared to a little gym that has limited equipment.

One of La Palestra's core philosophies is Respect. As they state on their website, "We believe in…read morerespect; without it, nothing good can happen." Yet, they hire staff members who are frequently rude and abrasive to select gym members. Since they position La Palestra as a high-end gym, I don't think it's a lot to ask for "good to great" customer service. I'm not even demanding for excellent service; Just wanted enough to make its patrons feel that they are valued and respected. This negative review is pointed to one specific individual who works to maintain the cleanliness the La Palestra gym at 70 Pine Street. I didn't bother to ask for his name but he's the Latino guy who is in everybody's business. Rude. Disrespectful.

I've had the opportunity to work with two of the trainers here and both are extremely friendly, creative with their workouts and knowledgeable. Each week I'm presented with an entirely new workout. I've never repeated any exercise in the 3 months I've been training and the new muscles I've discovered thank me (or hate me) for that. The facilities are clean and intimate. Since it's a private studio, there are no distractions (other trainers talking to your trainer, waiting for equipment, not having enough space, gym members staring at you, etc.).
