Let's just call it what it is--an older beachside motel. But with that said, it's honestly a solid value for what you get. Any property right on the beach is going to show some wear and tear thanks to the salt and moisture in the air, but I was impressed with how well-maintained this place was, all things considered. You truly can't beat the price--$70 to $80 a night, and you get a little kitchenette, which is super convenient. On the downside, our fridge didn't work very well, and the freezer wasn't much colder than the fridge. That said, the beds were clean and surprisingly comfortable, with fresh sheets and towels. The overall cleanliness exceeded my expectations for a budget-friendly motel. The staff was kind and accommodating, which made a big difference. Also, it's pet-friendly, which we appreciated, with a very reasonable pet fee (either $15 or $50 depending on the situation--and you may be able to get that $50 back). I really want to give them a good review on their hospitality. Sara at the check-in office was absolutely wonderful and true gem, so helpful and hospitable. She told us to let her know if there was anything that we needed very kind of her. We didn't mind putting the $20 down for the key deposit. Our hotel bookings total was $81 good price for a place by the beach. We only stayed one night seeing it was. It was a spontaneous trip for my husband's birthday when we got into the room there was an absolute foul smell it smelled of mildew and sulfur. The only thing that got the stench out was me being over prepared and packing air freshener since i read the reviews before booking. the water is so smelly like sewage and sulfur. My husband was gagging when he was brushing his teeth because of the water we brought bottled just in case. The room was pretty clean sheets & pillows. At night when we were getting ready for bead a 1.5in roach came crawling out from behind our headboard. i think this place is great for a overnight beach trip. quick little in and out, so much potential for this place. read more

Not the worst place I've stayed but definitely not for the someone use to medium range motels. I've stayed in worst but this comes close to it. I did find the room clean but had to deal with flies. No roaches. The kitchenette had no pots or utensils. The AC worked fine. The steps aren't OSHA approved. It didn't cost much and was close to the beach and fishing. Traveler, avoid this place at all costs. The toilet did not flush at all in one room and sheets in both rooms are visibly dirty (as in hair, stains, cigarette burns, etc on sheets of all beds in 2 rooms). Floors and walls were dirty, there was a blood smear on a wall, the curtains were hanging off the rod, and the water ran brown from the faucets and toilets. Just so much wrong here. This place is so bad it's comical! First, the owner is freaking weird. I made a reservation online just to make sure my son and I had a place to stay once we got to Surfside Beach. It looked a little dilapidated but it was a block from the beach. I checked in and the owner was gruff and rude when I asked simple questions like where to eat...since we had never been there. My son accidentally tapped his thermos on the counter and the owner reacted like a bomb went off. He probably had been up 3 days on m*th and was paranoid. He asks for a key deposit. Not wanting to put it in my credit card, I give him the $20 in cash, meanwhile I was thinking it a bit strange to ask for a key deposit since I thought motels quit doing that in 1995. The $87/night rate should of covered that. The room was tiny ,laughable and disgusting with a glue trap on the side of the refrigerator with countless dead geckos and roaches stuck to it. We went to dinner and I get a phone call from the owner. He asks when we're going to check in. I say I just did. He acts confused, says he has no paperwork on me. I shrug it off. A section 8 tenant in the motel was kind enough to offer my 13 year old a cigarette when we went back to the room. I checked out in the morning and while my kid was in the car I returned my key and asked for my deposit. The owner said he'd put it back on my credit card, I told him I paid cash for the deposit and got the room through Priceline, he said I didn't. By then I was getting angry at his incompetence. He yelled to his employee "is this the guy you told me about.?" I was confused and said "WTH?? Why on earth would you be talking about me?? What did I do?" He then told me he'd give me $20 cash for the key deposit just to be nice. I yelled "it's my $20 to begin with! What the hell is wrong with you??" For a spur of the moment trip to a destination we've never been to, this place was perfect for us. We don't require fancy dwellings while out. So this place fit our needs perfectly. And for $55 a night, you get what you pay for. We got the room with a kitchenette but we never even used the oven. The beds were smaller than we were hoping for so restful nights sleep weren't there, but they were comfy. The young man that checked us in was very friendly as was one of the live in ladies. My husband and youngest daughter befriends the owner who lent a body board for my daughter to learn to boogie board. If we are down this way again, I'm sure we will keep them in mind. After reading reviews I passed on booking but wife said it's only one night. We checked in 2pm Saturday 6/25. Entered small foyer area where a customer was waiting for front desk personnel. I asked if she had stayed here before? Yes but her only complaint was not enough towels. She brings her own. Front desk finally arrived. He was pleasant enough and my pprwk was ready. Check in took about 5 minutes plus a refundable $20 key deposit. I drove around the property before parking. The building is worn and parking lot needs repair. Grounds were clean. Plenty of trash receptacles. Our room was on 2nd floor back with Gulf View through the houses. Upon entering room A/C was on so room was cool. We already knew what to expect furnishing wise so no surprise there. Couple of weak spot issues with the floor decking under the carpet. Guessing rotted lumber. Inspected bathroom, clean, one small bar soap and towels. Towel wise, 1 floor mat towel, 1 bath towel, 1 hand towel and 1 wash cloth. You would think with 2 adults checking in you would get 2 bath towels. As I was going to the office to get another towel housekeeping utility room was on my way. Door was ajar I knocked and as door swung open, towels! So I helped myself. Hey, there was no sign Employees Only. Beach was a short walk. Shower time after the beach. As I stepped into the tub the tub bottom depressed to where I thought thin fiberglass tub may crack. Either installed incorrectly or rotted subfloor under tub as well. And no I'm not fat. Not a very good nights sleep. No mattress support and flimsy pillows. Wife brought her own pillow but mattress was an issue with her too. We checked out 10am. Different front desk gentleman. He too was pleasant and refunded my key deposit. I gave them $20 cash and got the $20 cash back. Overall not too bad being I was expecting worse. We had clean towels, clean room no bugs or evidence of bugs or worse. Located right on Blue Water Hwy, well lit parking lot, no traffic noise. A little noise in two adjoining rooms but nothing to call mgr or PD about. Being honest only reason we will not be back is the mattress issue. In all honesty if I owned this property in the off season I would demo the two story motel and the six pad RV site. It's in a good location but rebuild from ground up. Modernize the building and amenities and you can charge double no problem. As far as RV pads I'm sure they need to be upgraded too OR if codes permit build another small wing to the main motel. It's certainly not anything fancy however it wasn't terrible either. Pros: one minute walk to the beach, super friendly and accommodating staff, decent bath/shower, clean sheets on the beds, and not expensive. Pets are welcome too. For a quick trip to the beach it's all we needed. I can tell the staff is hustling to care for the place and their customers. We all really enjoyed our stay and I would stay again. We will definitely be back. Cant beat the location, nice views too. Almost forgot the cons: it could be a little cleaner. The carpet was sandy but hey you're at the beach! It's an older building, could def use a remodel but I saw zero pest/roaches/etc. And don't forget your Off, you'll need it if you plan to be outside when the mosquitos are out. read more

Please do not stay here! This place is awful and I don't understand how it is even open. The whole place is falling apart. It stinks, there are roaches, and see my pictures to look at the way they use electrical outlets. Dark brown shag carpet was so gross. I walked into my room and immediately was upset. This place is disgusting. Bathtub so gross you would not want your feet to touch the tub. There was snot dried up on my wall as well. I called the office and they come to my room. Housekeeping says, this is not snot, it's a squashed roach on the wall. Umm, ok, just as gross. I was offered a different room and I declined. I did get a refund so that was nice. Hold on to your eyeballs, this is going to be a long read. TLDR: Don't stay here, it doesn't matter how much money you save, it's not worth it. It's gross. So, to start this review, we booked this motel with the intent of staying multiple nights while we took care of business in the area. It was to be a business/pleasure style trip. We left Dallas late and arrived at the hotel about 10 minutes after 9pm. Knowing that check ins after 9 were frowned upon, we called the front desk and updated them a couple of times letting them know about where we were, and how long it would take us to arrive. They said arriving a few minutes late would be fine and there shouldn't be an issue. The first time we called, a woman answered, the second time we called and told them we were in Angleton, a man answered and said they looked forward to seeing us. Upon arrival, my fiancé went in to collect the keys. I wasn't there to witness the interaction, but she told me that she was made to feel very unwelcome, and that the woman who checked her in was rude, and was not wearing a mask. She also informed my fiancé that she would be taking a $20 key deposit per room and would be inspecting the rooms before we left before she would refund the deposit. Keys in hand, we went around back to park and unload our things. Walking upstairs to the room, the walkway was littered with debris, there were chairs in the path at random intervals which required hoisting of luggage over it to get by (you couldn't roll luggage past) and there were complications with getting the door unlocked with one of our rooms. I managed to get the key to work by physically forcing the key in while wiggling it until it seated and allowed the lock to turn. That done, I went back to the room I was staying in to finish unloading. Having had a poor experience at another hotel in the area recently, we decided this time we would bring "a layer of protection" against potentially dirty bedding, so we had some sheets, pillow shams and a blanket in the event we needed it. I'm very, very, VERY glad we did. More on that later. After hauling all of our things to the two rooms, I decided to take a look around. When we walked in, the dank smell of the room was quite evident with a slight undertone of urine. The beds were made as you'd expect, but that's about the only nice feature I can describe, what comes next is straight out of a nightmare. The gray carpet was wet/damp in places. The "kitchen" was dirty, the sink had what looked like dried soda in it, there was a bread tie on the microwave and a bread metal twist on the counter. There was dirt/dust on every thing in the room, and the higher up you went, the thicker it got. In fact, the further into the room I got, the more grossed out I got. After driving from Dallas to Surfside, I really needed to relieve myself. I walked into the bathroom to be completely and totally horrified and grossed out. Not much grosses me out, but when you see something you can't identify next to a toilet in a splatter pattern, you get grossed out. I don't care who you are, unless of course, one of the staff of this hotel. They must have been completely fine with it. Hey, at least the toilet had the blue water in it, right? I shimmied as far away from the offending splatter and took care of my business. I opened the lid, which was hanging on by a wish and a prayer, and relieved myself. The blue water went away upon flushing, and was replaced with yellow dingy water. So I flushed again, thinking there was some residual staining from the coloring they'd put in. Nope, apparently they'd only squirted it in the bowl, the water filling the toilet was actually tinged urine color. The shower was dirty, there was hair in the tub, the walls of the tub were stained/dirty. The sink in the bathroom was stained/dirty. The floors, as mentioned previously, had obviously not been mopped, swept or otherwise cared for. The countertops were grimy, and the water coming out of the tap of the faucet was also the same color as what was filling the toilet. The door of the bathroom wouldn't shut unless you put your shoulder into it. I went back into the main area to heat up a sandwich I'd purchased earlier in the day. I open the microwave to find the previous residents crumbs left behind in it. Thankfully my sandwich was wrapped, so I set it in and turned it on. I had beverages I'd brought for the road trip, and went to put them into the fridge while the meal was warming up. The refrigerator was "empty" but certainly not devoid of grime and dirt. This didn't surprise me, as filth, dirt, grime and disrepair seemed to be the ongoing theme of this place. With the comment made regarding "Checking the room" before we got our deposit back being made, I made sure to take plenty of pictures before we settled in so that we wouldn't be blamed for the state of the room. It is what it is. A cheap motel really close to the beach. A buddy and me stayed here during a fishing trip. Stayed Sunday and Monday nights $60 a night. Cold AC, warm shower and shelter and the staff were friendly. No I would never take my wife and kids here if you paid me. But it was good for our purpose. I only saw one cock roach, he was small and shy. He quickly hid when he saw me, no worries. I will stay elsewhere next time but If you want a unique experience to laugh at later this is your place. I booked a hotel (Anchor Motel & RV Park) through booking.com. Worthless customer service and will NEVER use booking.com ever again. I was charged a night's stay at Anchor Motel in Surfside Beach, TX. After checking in to my room I found soiled sheets, a filthy microwave with food splattered on the inside, long hairs on top of the microwave, and a broken toilet paper holder. I went to the front desk and requested my money back and told the lady the place was filthy. She told me that it was up to booking.com. I went ahead and rented a room at Quality Inn, and then called booking.com. I was told that Anchor Motel said I took a shower in that dump and would not be refunded $55! That is a blatant lie and scam on both their parts to keep money from customers! I provided pictures to show the filth. Booking.com is only about taking peoples money and not providing customer satisfaction! read more

If you are looking for a cheap and easy place to stay practically ON THE BEACH with your doggies, then this is the only place I found that accepts pets for cheap. I looked on AirBnB and VRBO. It was super cheap, just keep in mind it is a dive-in hotel. The other places I looked at cost more in cleaning fees (VRBO) than 3 nights stay here, so I will definitely be staying at Anchor Motel again. The beds are soft, the AC is amazing, and the doggies had their own bed :-) We even got a fridge even though we didn't request one. Very quiet area, easy to find, not a lot of traffic (for August trip). The staff is incredibly nice and helpful. Highly recommend. read more

The pictures do not accurately represent the place. It's close to the beach and it's cheaper ($50 a night) so I wasn't expecting much. Walked in and the staff was rude from the start. I don't know if it's the person before me that caused them to be in such a bad mood seeing as they said they've had to call the cops on them before or what. But that alone made me think twice about staying there. I'm in the customer service industry so customer service is a very big thing to me. I paid ahead using VRBO and the staff didn't even know they took reservations using VRBO. The attendant could sense tension in my voice and asked me if I've had a bad day with a negative tone. That's never acceptable in customer service. They were not helpful at all. They gave me the papers and were getting me to sign for the room and I decided this was not the place for me and my family to stay. After leaving I immediately called the booking site and cancelled. VRBO called the motel to verify I cancelled and the attendant told them I was the one that's rude. Either way I'm getting my money back and will make sure none of my friends or family stay here. Parking is atrocious. Can barely tell where the office is as their signage is not very noticeable. The exterior is not well kept. Just an overall bad experience. We stay in the area a lot but we'll never ever stay there. I even found a name brand hotel for the same amount of money they tried charging me, which was double by the way. read more
