Omg. Love this place. An old style diner but clean and well appointed. I called to see if there was a wait at 11:30 on a Friday, and some guy answered "hello?" No wait and when we arrived, Mike, the owner asked if I had called and I gave him crap (jokingly) about how he answered. We had a laugh and a wonderful conversation about the history of the place. A very charming and friendly owner. The Food. I had the peach pancakes and he also sent out a beer pancake that was tomorrow's special for me to try. Both were Sooo good. Wife and kids had omelettes, oh, and creamed chipped beef. To die for. The service was friendly and attentive and the food came out quickly. I highly recommend this restaurant. When you want a real shore breakfast, Surfside West Diner is a must! Their menu is large enough to offer something for all, but without being fatiguing. Omelets, pancakes, chipped beef, french toast, you name it. The Taylor Ham is cut thicker and cooked to a light, crispy perfection. I had the peach pancakes (special for the day) and wowza, so good! The perfect blend of sweetness and savoriness. The home fries are of the shredded variety, and seasoned perfectly. I think I met my carbohydrate quota for the day! And they had me at "Diet Pepsi" instead of Diet Coke. Bonus! The waitstaff couldn't be nicer, and the cook even came around to check on everyone. And the restaurant is immaculately clean. And pistachio French toast. Really good freshly baked buttermilk biscuits. One star removed for a personal experience that our booth was next to the bussers dirty dish bin- and he smashed them in the bins every 3 or 4 minutes. Really jarring my Loud 1 foot from my ears. I know they are busy and have bigger fish to fry (literally) but they could attempt to not crash them quite so aggressively. God, I sound like a big baby. Wow. As soon as you walk in you are greeted by all the staff and are wished a great breakfast. The chef, actually came out and told us about the beautiful art piece at the back of the dining hall. His wife, who works here as well, painted the piece and it makes you feel apart of the family. If you're lucky, you can play a game where you search for certain things inside the painting. Service was great. Omelet special was delicious! It was crab and cheese with homemade tomatillo sauce. The sausage was Italian sweet sausage patties which I love. The crisp potato cake was delicious and would definitely get that over regular potatoes anytime. Surfside West is a classic diner in Wildwood on the Crest's border. I'd assume you're more likely to visit if you're staying nearby, but it does certainly have its selling points as a destination stop. For one, they've been around for decades upon decades (see attached photo of history information). They have plenty of top-notch reviews and host a family-friendly environment. They even display kids' drawings right above the entrance. You're likely to meet the owner as well at some point during your meal. It's your typical mix of booths and tables when you walk in. You can visit for breakfast or lunch, but breakfast seems to be their focus. They close at 1 p.m. daily. Earlier today, our party of four was seated in a booth near the door. Two of us ordered lunch (burgers) while the other two chose breakfast (bacon and eggs). I slightly regretted my decision after seeing the egg plates. They looked seriously delicious! My cuban burger was just okay. I liked the toppings (bacon, cheese, fried egg), but the beef and pork patty itself and accompanying sauce weren't my favorites. I also found it surprising that my plate didn't come with chips or fries, even though the regular burger does come with fries. When I asked about it, my server said it would cost $3.25 extra for fries, which is absurd to me. I went with chips, which she nicely provided for no added charge. Coffee refills were fast, the diner was cute, prices were cheap, and their menu had some interesting sounding options on it. Lemon ricotta pancakes? Wedgie eggs? Yes, please. We never intended on returning the second day. We picked Surfside because it was closest to our hotel and had great reviews. We loved the friendly staff and the inventive food, which is unusual for a diner. I'm a Greek omelet guy, and this was maybe the best version I've had. Fresh spinach and quality feta and tomatoes. It's a simple meal, but this was somehow better. My wife got the potato croquette with horseradish sauce. Also outstanding! We planned to check out the big diner competitor in town on our second morning, but there was a long line, so we were more than happy to get back to Surfside. It's a small place, and more people should try it. My wife got the Italian Hangover and I got the Wedgie - two more winners! Good coffee, friendly servers and the owners are lovely. Owners are from a family of diner owners since the early 60's in WW . Current owners stop at each table to see how your meal is and will take the time to explain dishes. Today he explained the way they make their CUBAN BURGER which you must try. It came with a sauce that I can only describe as very tasty and unusual and having the fried egg atop the burger was devine. I've never had a bad meal or experience here. We are life long Wildwood vacationers. Sometime in North Wildwood; sometime in the Crest. I don't know how we missed this place. We went there for breakfast last year and this year. The place takes me back to my teenage years and breakfast with my parents. The decor and furnishings are definitely old school. For me, it's the only reason I need to revisit. Very friendly and attentive staff. Spotless clean. The menu contains everything you need for a delicious and nourishing breakfast; American classics. Hospitality is always on the menu at the Surfside. Not many places these days offer the trifecta of good food, great service and amazing hospitality. On our last day in Wildwood Crest, my wife said she wanted to see where I disappeared to every morning at 6:30. After meeting owners Michael and Jeanne at breakfast, she finally understood. My boyfriend and I came here for a Monday morning, spur of the moment breakfast stop on our way out of Wildwood. There was no issue getting two people seated around 10:30am, but their parking lot was filled so we ended up parking on the street a couple blocks over. I had coffee with skim milk (yay for them having skim since a lot of diners tend to not have it!) and my decaffeinated companion got a glass of apple juice :) We both went for what I would call the "house favorites" marked with a blue dot on their menu. I got the green eggs and ham - eggs were perfectly cooked, stacked with a thick layer of ham and cheese atop hash browns. My favorite thing about it was the homemade pesto drizzled on top, which really worked. My only wish was that the hash browns stayed more crispy, since the weight of the other components seemed to kind of mush/steam them a little. My boo ordered the Wedgie, which consisted of potato wedges with cheese, scrambled eggs and a horseradish sauce that complimented the dish very well. From a value standpoint, prices were very reasonable and our service was A okay. I would recommend this to anyone in the local area looking for a relatively quick and enjoyable breakfast. read more
