I have stopped here many times whenever I am in Chinatown, and until this visit, I have always had a positive experience. Unfortunately, the cashier working during my recent visit was extremely unprofessional and immature. When I approached to place my order, she acted as though she was deciding whether she wanted to acknowledge me or even take my order. Her attitude toward me felt negative and completely inappropriate for someone dealing with a paying customer. Her behavior became uncomfortable enough that I had to tell her that I was not one of her friends and should not be treated with that kind of attitude. She eventually took my order and I paid for it, but she did not complete the order. Another employee had to step in and finish it for me. I know this is not the normal level of service here because I have been a repeat customer. That is what made this experience so disappointing. Management should address this type of behavior because customers deserve to be treated with basic courtesy, professionalism, and respect. read more

Small spot tucked inside one of those mini dining hall style spaces in Chinatown. It feels a little hidden but in a fun way. The seating area is pretty intimate, good for a casual date or just sitting and chatting for a bit. I came specifically for the tokidoki collab and ngl it was very cute. I got one of the tokidoki cupcakes and a matcha boba tea. I was starving so I ate the cupcake immediately. It was good, but definitely on the sweeter side. If you like lighter, less sweet desserts, it might feel like a lot. For me it was right on that edge. The matcha boba tea was solid. They were training someone when I went, so the drink took a bit longer, but honestly understandable. What I did appreciate was that I forgot to ask for 30 percent sugar at first, and they actually stopped mid-make to adjust it for me. After seeing how much sugar they usually add... yeah, definitely specify your sugar level here. The boba itself was good. It's the brown sugar kind, so it has more flavor than the plain ones. My only small complaint is I wish there was more of it. I was being a little picky and counted, and I only got about 12 pearls, not even a full layer at the bottom. Overall, really cute spot with solid drinks and fun themed desserts. Just keep an eye on sweetness levels and maybe ask for extra boba if that's your thing. read more

I always had come to this spot whenever I have a taste for taro soft serve. But ever since the Surreal Creamery and Tokidoki Collab, I came more often. The event is announced thru IG. The event includes a free Tokidoki hand fan just for participation. With $45 dollars purchased of Tokidoki blind boxes and the Surreal Creamery Collab, you will receive a cute tote bag. Also each SC&Tokidoki treat comes with a little charm where the event coordinator will make it into cute keychains. Reason for the three star, this location is so darn UNPREPARED! I came to Chinatown SC twice for the two events they held so far, both of the times, employees have ZERO clue of what's going on smdh. To make matters worst, most of the time, the advertised collab items were unavailable. And this spot is tiny, too tiny for events. I enjoyed the All Very Strawberry Ice Cream Cake Jar but due to the machine for the strawberry ice cream being down, I had to replace the ice cream with a different flavor. I opted for vanilla ice cream. I ordered the mini which was sufficient for an afternoon sweet treat. The jar is layered with the strawberry cupcake on the bottom, icing, strawberry crunch, and topped with ice cream. It's a wonderful combination but the plastic spoons available made it difficult to access the cupcake with the other layers. I would order the cake jar again but will use my own spoon so I don't spend time trying to pull up the cupcake smashed at the bottom to enjoy with the other layers. They have a high top table ledge to sit and enjoy your treat inside if you choose. It sits across from the workspace where you can watch them make your treat. read more

I was with a group that wanted a sweet treat after dinner, and we landed on Surreal Creamery. Upon entering, I thought the layout was a bit strange. There's not much space inside but there's small counters you can place items and stand and eat/drink. I noticed some outside seating as we were leaving. I ordered a Thai iced bubble tea. It was very tasty. Our group ordered a variety of things. The ice cream portions looked huge with lots of mix-ins. I believe all of the ice cream options are soft serve. Everyone seemed to enjoy what they had. Service encounter was very brief so I don't have much to comment on that. I'd recommend giving Surreal Creamer a try if you are in the area. read more

When we went, they were out of all frosting, not just one kind, all of them apparently - even though we watched them hand someone a ice cream cake cup with frosting? AMAZING! Someone had the brilliant idea to combine two of the best desserts in the world--bubble tea and ice cream! I got the brown sugar bubble tea with earl grey ice cream on top, and it was HEAVEN in a cup. I split it with a friend because it's so dang large. Oh wow! We had a hankering for soft serve but couldn't find something that was still open late until we stumbled upon this place! What a treat! We took the drive over to the Chinatown location and found easy street parking right outside. Inside, it's a pretty sizeable operation, with ordering available pretty much as you walk in and then an area to the side to enjoy the ice cream in case you're sticking around. We chose to do two flavors - earl grey and taro with the gingerbread toppings - so good! I think the toppings really worked with these flavors and we both enjoyed the combination. They have options for cones but given the size of the portion, glad we went with a cup! The workers were really nice and patient while we asked about what we have as options and ways to mix and match. Overall - solid creamy soft serve and great service to boot! I had previously gone to the Surreal Creamery in Bryn Mawr. I had an ok experience when I went but wanted to give them another try. This Chinatown location made it a lot more convenient to get to. I made my own cup and chose the Taro & Matcha Swirl. I also added Biscoff Cookies and Teddy Grahams as the toppings, which they swirl into the ice cream and garnish on top as well. They give you A LOT of ice cream so try to share with someone if you can. I chose to get the ice cream because that was one of the redeeming parts of the Flotea when I ordered from the location in Bryn Mawr. Unfortunately, the ice cream just wasn't it. You could not taste any taro or matcha flavor and instead it just tasted like vanilla soft serve. The toppings made it unique and tastier but I ended up throwing away most of it because I didn't want mediocre vanilla soft serve. Would I go back? : Unfortunately not. You walk right down the stairs and up to the counter. When it's busy, it's hard to step to the side without getting in the way of people waiting for their orders. When I went, it was loud, crowded, and hard to read the signs (both LED and paper) that were posted on different walls in different areas. Got the Chocolate blackout mason jar and oh my gosh is it delicious!! The chocolate flavor of the soft serve is amazing - not too sweet, not too bitter and the choco puffs go so well with it. You can take the mason jar home, so that's a plus. The Vietnamese coffee soft serve was a tad bitter but it paired well with the Thai tea. Service was quick, only issue today was they didn't have the air conditioning working but that happens. I am already a regular at two dessert places in chinatown and this will soon be on that list. Huge portions! My husband got the Floatea which has ice cream and bubble tea. The earl gray ice cream was subtle and really smooth. I got the Brown Sugar classic milk tea which equates to Kung Fu Tea's Milk Tea, it was exactly how I like it. I asked for 25% sugar. The prices are way too high. If a family of five were to come in, they'd have to easily drop $55-$70. I don't think it's worth the prices, definitely one of those "looks good for Instagram" spots. Walking back to our hotel after a long day wandering the city, we almost LITERALLY stumbled upon Surreal Creamery. Tucked away in a food court, of sorts, this super clean, super efficient ice cream shop was exactly what we were wanting. We had one of their Mason Jar specials, Know Your Roots (taro ice cream, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, chocolate crunch, chocolate syrup, and a cinnamon graham cracker. You can have your order swirled for on-site enjoyment or capped to take home. I took my jar all the way home, cross country, and now it has a new home and a new purpose! If I had a Surreal Creamery anywhere near where I live, I'd definitely be a repeat customer and soon have a whole collection those fabulous little jars. read more
