I have been here before for a Yelp Elite event! When I'm in the neighborhood I have to stop by. The staff is so friendly and lets you try a million flavors. Today they had 'popcorn' which sounds really weird but it works. It does taste like a sweet popcorn funny enough. My daughter got the rainbow ice which she enjoyed a lot. My family and I stumbled upon Harper's after visiting a nearby playground. The area itself isn't pretty but the staff and patrons are all very nice and friendly. I've got to say that the prices blew my mind in that they were actually cheap! A kiddie scoop, which is actually quite large, was less than $4! They had around 10 flavors and we picked the butterfinger, chocolate cookie dough, and toffee drumstick. The cookie dough was unique in that the cookie bits were spread throughout the ice cream and not just circular clumps sporadically. You really got cookie dough in every bite. read more

I came to Harper's on a warm day with my roommate for a yelp event and it was a very good experience. They have special ice cream flavors such as movie theater popcorn and we specifically got the snickers. They also have a bowl for flavor suggestions which was super cute. The cashier was also very kind and provided fast service and there are several tables you can sit at as well as a bar seating area by the window. She also let us know that 1 scoop technically equals 2 scoops and she let us have 2 different flavors each! Awesome!! I got a scoop of Lemon Sponge Pie (with actual chunks of shortbread cookies - my favorite of the four!) and a scoop of Space Brownie (dark chocolate flavor with sprinkles etc) while my husband got PB&J (yummm!!) and Carrot cake (again, it actually had pieces of carrot cake!!). The place is quite big! There is enough space inside - I think there are 2 tables with 4 chairs each, then there are two areas either side of the entrance with high top chairs AND there are at least 2-3 patio tables for outdoor seating - definitely WAY more than I have seen at other ice cream stores. This is one of my favorite ice cream shops in the city! I love that they focus on locally sourced ingredients, and I have picked up my farm shares here for months! I missed out on the Yelp Elite event here bc I was out of town that week but I wanted to make a point to support them on my own time and I finally made it here this week. I tried a sample first of a jelly donut flavor and it wasn't for me. Then I just decided to get 2 scoops of 2 other flavors I had not sampled. i went w the cannoli cake and then salted caramel. Both were delish!! My bf got the peaches and cream and the strawberry and he thought they were both good too. Another great small batch artisanal ice cream shop in Philadelphia, this one on West Girard Avenue in the Brewerytown neighborhood. First exposure was via the current Yelp Event granting a free scoop of their available ice cream flavors as an introduction to their amazing panoply of choices. I kvelled for the dual scoop of Strawberry and Carrot Cake creamies, finding the pink berry to be subtle, soothing and delicious, and the matrix of real carrot cake in vanilla bean to be engaging and delightful, although perhaps not as good as they would be eaten separately when the cream cheese icing would dominate. Nonetheless, the visit was rewarding with Mars providing the scooperonis with strong wrist and quick humor. I knew my family would be disappointed if I didn't think of them while in the store and bring at least one sample home. I found a pint of their private label Butter Pecan in the undersized retail freezer, and grabbed it knowing I would be welcomed home a hero for snaring her favorite flave. That was an underestimate of the response received. I couldn't tell which she loved more - the butter pecan dreamcream which was just exceptional, or me! She sure made a bigger fuss about the chill smooth dance party in her mouth, but I can't complain about how she expressed her gratitude to me later on. A win win win all around! read more

They have the usual flavors (cookies and cream, cookie dough, peanut butter cup) and some unique ones (birthday cake with rainbow sprinkles, blueberry pie). I recently had 2 scoops ($6) with one cookies and cream and the other cookie dough. One scoop is $4 and the scoops are generous. You can have it as a sundae or add toppings. There is some seating inside but covered tables outside, which is awesome on a beautiful day. We came in on a December Thursday night and were the only ones in the store. You're able to sample any flavor you want, which was great. We ended up getting thin mint and a pumpkin, which were both delicious. The sad part about winter is that not many people are coming in for ice cream, so the ice cream itself wasn't as creamy and had some ice chunks. I love ice cream, so when my coworkers told me about newly opened Harper's and I found out it was just steps away from a brewery we were meaning to try, I had to go! Brewerytown is slowly becoming revitalized, so Harper's is a lovely addition to that and is strategically placed. We were the only ones there at the time of our visit, and the employees were so attentive and provided us excellent background on the shop and allowed us to try as many flavors as we desired (loved it). It was fall, so they had some nice seasonal flavors to try! I wound up going for the trick or treat (pumpkin flavored + candy bits) and carrot cake in a bowl (love that you can split flavors). I really enjoyed the trick or treat - it was such a unique flavor and was perfect for the season! The ice cream was a tad icier and not as creamy as I prefer for ice cream, but I really did love their flavor variety and uniqueness of the options. Almost all had "goodies" in them, which makes for the perfect scoop, in my opinion. At just $4 for a scoop, Harper's is an incredible deal, and I will certainly be back to try more of their many flavors and try to hit some spring / summer flavors!
