I have been coming to Surrender for several months now and my stylist, Ronnie is EXCELLENT. Located in the Bixby Knolls/California Heights area, the salon itself has tremendous potential. There lacks a single design concept throughout the salon and looks like it could actually be two completely separate businesses. The entry is charming, though falls short on full potential. For example, the planters outside could hugely benefit from pruning and cleaning up, or better yet, replace the aging succulents with beautiful flowering plants of the season. Overall experience can be hot or cold. At times there appears to be much tension between the owner and her team. This can make the customer feel a bit uncomfortable and of course can be a bit un-motivating for the stylists to give each and every one of their customers a dedicated 100% each and every visit. Surrender does hold significant potential and as a customer, I personally look forward to seeing the salon realize its full potential. Go Team Surrender! read more

My flowergirls had their hair done into updos here. They looked absolutely adorable and the girls said that they had a fun time getting their hair done. It was an easy process booking the appointments and getting everything paid for so that on the day of the wedding, things would run smoothly. Marla= BEST HAIR DRESSER EVER! She is so knowledgable about hair, and continuously striving to learn more! at first, i had an appt booked with april in july but ended up getting cancelled because of the receptionists mistake. the receptionist thought there was enough time for a consult and service on that day. i was sad because i was already on the way to the salon until i got the phone call saying that they didn't have enough time. i ended up going to envy beauty studio where they did my hair. (that was a mistake) my hair was disastrous. after that, two months passed and i finally gave surrender another try. i ended up getting booked with april again but then ended up getting cancelled again due to an emergency she had. i was kinda sad as well but i was able to get an appt with michelle instead. i was worried that michelle wasn't going to get my hair in one solid color as my roots were dark and my ends were light. i had previous highlights and then different shades of purple. i was wrong and the color came out great! FUSCHIA. absolutely gorgeous. she ended up giving me a high lift instead of using bleach to help save my hair so we could achieve the bright color. she made me felt welcomed and was very caring. some stylists don't have empathy in their jobs such as being gentle when brushing hairs, trying not to burn the customers head with the blow dryer, and being careful with new ear piercings as to trying not to hit it. however, michelle was SUPERB. thanks for beautifying me and i recommend her especially for a crazy color correction! :) ill be coming back for my touch-ups. read more

I discovered this salon AFTER having my hair badly trashed/dyed at another place in Long Beach. I've really been around the block when it comes to hair salons from really posh places in Beverly Hills to local shops-- I was a hair model ages ago and definitely know what's a good cut, color and stylist and had all sorts of styles to go with it. So here comes Jamie Campbell (I really don't want to reveal her name because that just makes her harder to book) but she's really amazing and I'm trying to spread good karma around. So the first time I met Jamie she had to repair as much damage from the previous salon I went to. So off went about 8 inches- really damaged (I still had a lot of hair afterwards aka hitting my mid back--I have long hair even though I wanted to chop it ALL off she proved that it was possible not too) and a couple hours later- my hair was amazing. I see her for my color and cuts. Fast forward many sessions with her and she has transformed my hair back to being fashionable and healthy again. She understands what I want and need without me really clearly knowing what I want sometimes. Not to mention all the styling, workout damage (swimmer here) I do to it [myself] on a daily basis. She lays it on the line by asking what I really want, and the ramifications of it on my hair. Essentially she keeps it real. She gives her input on what would look good on me and my hair and keep it the condition I want to be in. So in short Jamie rocks and that is the reason why I keep going back to her. Her schedule does get busy so try to book in advance with her as soon as possible. read more

I had an amazing peel with Dylan. She is incredibly knowledgeable and makes you feel at ease in the room. I felt so relaxed and comfortable .... and I really needed that. After the series of peels I had done my skin was so smooth and clear. I don't think my skin has looked that good since I was 5 yrs old! I will becoming back for more and I seriously recommend her.... she is magical! read more

I guess I should review Surrender again, because my last one was a few years ago. I've been going to Surrender since before they moved to Wardlow. I'm maybe the only person unhappy about the move, because the old location was right near my house. I go to see Jamie and she always sorts me out. She's also a genuinely nice person who likes to converse with people. Nothing is worse than sitting in that little swively chair making awkward talk while someone is touching your head. In short, they're a good deal, I always leave looking good, and I don't mind it Jamie touches my head. read more

I love this salon!!! And will forever come here. That it! I found MY salon!!! First of all let me rate the place; it's clean with the smell of an incense I think, it doesn't smell like normal salons were the air is filled with the smell of chemical and coloring but this salon is soo far from that. They accept walk-ins which is always great and they cater to this product named pureology and while the stylist was washing my hair the smell just relaxes you I bought some from them and is planning to buy more of the product. NOW the stylist. I LOVE HER!! Her names Amber. Well you can see how great she is cause I walked in and I wanted a bob and coming from a girl who never ever had a short hair I was scared of anyone touching my hair since I never sticked with one salon cause it's either they oveeerrrr price or the stylist isn't just up to par and I leave disappointed and piss of how my hair looks and those were just trims and bangs. So getting a bob is a HUGE DEAL but amber asked me alot of question and she really knows how to make people comfortable. She even asked me if I would like to donate my hair cause I think it's a good 6-7" of hair. I will forever be booking her and this salon. Finally after 1 1/2 year of goig to one salon to another and not getting the satisfaction of a great hair cut. I found the salon that I'll be coming back over and over. I came here for a long overdue haircut and sugar after reading the great reviews, and once again yelp helped me find a great new place! Josie, my hair stylist, took her time talking with me ahead of time to see what I wanted, which I really appreciated. She gave a great scalp massage while shampooing my hair! The haircut went a lot faster than I expected and am used to, but it seems like all of my layers still came out well. Josie also told me that she does "prunings" to just keep your hair healthy while you're growing it out- I'll be back for that. Overall, a good haircut. This was my first time sugaring and I am a fan! I've read other reviews that say it doesn't hurt and I have to disagree. It wasn't terribly painful by any means, but you still feel it. The great thing is that sugar exfoliates as it removes hair and several days later, my skin is still very smooth and soft. I definitely prefer it to waxing. Great salon with very friendly and professional people. It's a bit pricey, but they do quality work and it's a very relaxing atmosphere. read more

I am a dude, I want a dude haircut. I don't want color or a weave. I wanna wake up, shower, style it quick and roll out. This place does just that - friendly people, good conversation - the only thing missing is candy or a sucker when I am done. Jamie does a great job and the price is right. DUH! Of course I'm giving this place 5 stars. I have gotten so many compliments on my hairstyle ever since I started getting it done here. I came to Surrender looking like a page boy from the 1600s (after a HORRIBLE, TRAUMATIZING, haircut from a place I will spare from public humiliation), and I came out looking and, more importantly, FEELING fabulous. Anna Segura is super sweet, and she really knows what she's doing! She takes her time on your hair and she really listens to her clients. I just LOVE this place. The decor is super chic without feeling pretentious, the staff is super friendly without being overtly pushy on selling their products. This is definitely my go-to-place for everything beauty, now. So I stopped going to Surrender. I love Surrender, I do, but it was hurting my wallet to have to keep paying for an eyebrow wax here and then spending gas and more money to go elsewhere to get a pedicure. I still am a big fan of Star and the gang, but yeah, these are hard economic times, and a girl's gotta save a penny or two when she can. I do hope they get a good mani/pedi person in-house someday, and if they do (and if the economy gets better, finally), I'll definitely be making a triumphant return. read more

I discovered this place when Marie Weston moved here for her massage practice. She is great and I really liked the atmosphere, pleasant staff, and holistic approach to products. I recently had my first pedicure there by Vi and I will be back. The only negative is how much sound travels because they don't have anything to absorb it. You can hear conversations from one part of the salon to another and it distracts from the mellow atmosphere, in my opinion. I look forward to getting a facial in addition to my next massage and pedicure. read more

I have been seeing Jamie at Surrender Salon for over a year now and she is FABULOUS! I have naturally long, thick, and golden blond hair and I was looking for a cut and highlights. I am VERY picky about who does my hair (we've all experienced the haircut from hell) and after extensive research and great reviews, Jamie did not disappoint! She took her time and did some new stuff that I haven't had before, and overall it looks like a very pricey dye job for a really reasonable price. Robyn is AMAZING, she makes sure not to miss anything and the process is so much less aggressive than waxing is and I don't get the dry skin and rash and ingrown hairs anymore that I did with the hot wax. I came back to Surrender over a year ago to see Ronnie after several years of bouncing around places. He does a great job with color - I usually get highlights/low lights and had relatively long thick hair. Now I've gone to a dark long bob and the change has been great! Ronnie always knows what to do gives a great cut that works for your hair. They also have a rewards program that you can use for product in the store. read more
