Event started promptly, and the Icebreaker of the night was - as they billed it - Adult Bingo, so things like - Have you been on a nude beach, Do you have a piercing, etc. And the first 5 winners got a prize. It was less about the Icebreaker - which don't get me wrong, was a great way to make your way through the room, but it was more the overall beginning to end of the event. They have what they call the HH Host (or something like that title), who is your master of ceremonies, and they have floaters during the event whose job is to talk to everyone, and make the connections between people in the room. Reminded me back in the day during Rush - oh wait - I think the PC term is Recruitment. This event stood out to me 1) cause it wasn't a random match event which sold out in two seconds, but the people attending have nothing in common, 2) the event organizers really took the time to make sure everyone was having a good time. At one point, they did have shots around the room - I think. Overall - it was fun, and I'd go back to an event.

They always have more men than women at the events I can remember. If you attend an event for a certain age range they allow older people outside of the age range to attend. They do this so they can make more money. You have to wait since they allow uneven men and women to attend perhaps twenty minutes in total so everyone can have a turn. They have empty seats in the speed event so you might speak to one person, then have to wait fifteen minutes to speak to another. Then after you speak to them brace yourself to wait another five minutes till it is your turn again. You won't get a relationship out of it but only a date if you are lucky. One person went out with me and another individual at the same time. Expect validation to take place if you do get a date. Most people won't be your type. They also allow people in that are both straight and gay and don't advertise this. This way if you are straight you will be meeting gay people. They do this to make more money. I was a guest of a member during the 18-inch snow storm, so I wore my $500 dollar suede Danner lights (Made in the USA) to manage the snow. Upon entry, I was informed by the staff that, due to the suede being too light, it looked too much like Timberland boots, which are banned. I was professionally whisked to a backroom, where I was offered to wear black loafers 3 sizes too large if I wanted to make my appointment. I spent the rest of my time skipping through the venue in order to not trip over myself, wearing massively oversized shoes. I would have been okay with this footwear restriction if it was universally enforced, but there were plenty of people in the club wearing duck boots, metal hook leather hiking boots, and even the same type of boots of a slightly darker shade. Apparently, the shoe shade restriction was not something members are aware about (the no sneakers restriction is well known). I have previously been a guest here with positive experiences. However, today I was put in an illogically unsafe experience, forced to wear loaner shoes 3 sizes too large, because $500 lighter suede boots are deemed less classy than duck boots for being too"Timberland like" during a snow storm.

My head was on a SWIVEL ready for someone bursting through a door with an axe. I was completely lost looking for "Room #4," and began to spiral. I soon realized that I just took the wrong elevator, and found the room pretty easy once I took the correct elevator lol. Once I gathered my composure and found Room #4, I could finally appreciate how stunningly beautiful this place was. It is like an Oligarch's MANSION straight from the 19th century. It's tasteful luxury, when luxury meant more than just cookie cutter modern architecture. They had an open bar and some bomb horderves all night, with my favorite being this fresh tuna on top of a cucumber. I ate like 30 of them. Me and the lady in a tuxedo walking around with the tray became well acquainted. Upon arrival, which I admit was a bit late, the opening DJ was spinning the same beat with very little modulation or creative twisting. It was a steady metronome of bass, intended to merely exist while the throng wiggled in time below. The main act, the Martinez Brothers, elicited a few screams from the dancers when they popped onstage. I expected them to take this monotonous scene and really go to town with it. Instead, they posed for photos and continued spinning the exact same beat. Occasionally, something would change, that ramping-up of beeps and whistles crescendoing like the onset of a sneeze ... and then right back to the exact. same. beat. What happened? Are there impostors on Soundcloud pretending to be the DJs on the bill? Or were they all sedated and incapable of doing what they could clearly do as evidenced by their public tracks? Be bold, DJs! It is precisely what you might expect the third oldest gentlemens' club in the United States to look like, replete with billiards tables, a library, and old-timey bathrooms spread out among multiple floors. Thankfully, the bathroom attendants have been dispensed with. The dining room has the same aesthetic. The kitchen, however, pumped out some first rate chow. Your correspondent's steak was expertly seasoned and prepared. The sides, while not terribly creative (which would, it must be said, be out of place here), were competently executed. The fig and parma ham appetizer, on the other hand, was creative, delightful, and attractive to behold. Service was fairly formal, but not stuffy, which was a pleasure. A great table for dinner. They blocked off a manhole in the middle of a busy street where we climbed our way down in to darkness. It was quite a unique and once in a lifetime experience. Our following escapade was white water rafting in PA. That was a very special trip for me as I made many good friends. Other outings include mixers, a drawing event, kayaking, and even a capoiera class next month. The organizers Will and Cecilia are a gem. They were perfectly friendly and welcoming when I first joined the group and now they've built a wonderful family of NYC adventurers. I'm always looking forward to what they'll cook up next.

I have gone to a couple of their events and it's good if you have nothing else to do and need impromptu plans. The other members are fairly warm and welcoming but they can also be "clique-y." I believe everyone or most of the close members and coordinators all went to the same school or knew each other prior, hence their "cliques" I'm giving them 2 stars for being on time and organized with their events and they're somewhat always in or close to the city.
