It actually makes me really sad to write this. I've been a patient of Dr. Bakers for about a decade and over the past few years her care and the competency and proficiency of her staff has tanked. Firstly - Dr. Baker doesn't take insurance. The yearly visit is $1,500 and the visits between your yearly exam is $350-$1,500. Know that going in. Dr. Baker's team does not return phone calls. Dr. Baker's team does not follow-up with insurance companies. I have two prescriptions that are sitting there waiting for her office and her office does nothing. So - if you think about it - I paid for the visits and the result of the visits was a prescription that I was never able to receive - so I literally did not get what I paid for. Additionally, she often has inexperienced phlebotomists. I was poked 5 times and now that I think about it - never received a refund for the IV I did not receive that day. Dr. Baker does not treat her tele-health appointments as she does her face to face appointments. At least 5 times I have had a telehealth appointment and she either doesn't show up at all or is so late I can no longer do it. This past week I had an appointment and Dr. Baker was an hour late. Her staff called me at the 45 minute mark to tell me she'd be ten more minutes. Somehow - I missed that call. She called from her cell phone. As soon as I saw that I texted her and tried to get in touch with her. Well - she had already left the office. So, I finally speak to her and she chastizes me for using that phone number which - apparently - was reserved for her concierge patients. When I expressed I had been waiting an hour and wouldn't have time to reschedule tomorrow - with some rather urgent things to talk to her about, mind you. She proceeded to further chastise me - telling me sometimes she's late because of her job. I'm not sure if she or her staff will read this, I hope so. I'm going to provide some suggestions on how to better manage her time - just in case. - Do not schedule appointments (tele-health or otherwise) within 1.5 hours of when you need to leave if you haven't built in buffer throughout the day. - Build buffer in throughout the day. Max of two appointments per hour with at least 15 minutes between appointments. - Schedule an hour in the middle of the day to catch up - Let your clients know that they aren't a priority if they aren't a concierge patient and what the implications of that are. - If you are running behind have your staff call the patients before the appointment time so they can tell you if they have the ability to wait an hour. Dr. Baker has also shifted her focus to anti-aging and while this is novel - there are doctors that specialize in this and do a much better job for that. In closing - Dr. Baker's staff don't do their job, you'll waste your time and money by not being able to get the prescriptions, Dr. Baker doesn't respect your time and you will be left hanging. read more

Dr. Baker is an exceptional physician -- wise, meticulous, well-informed, and consistently up to date with the latest medical developments. She is also open to non-western approaches. I have a complex cluster of autoimmune disorders, and thanks to her care, I've remained stable for a long time. She also takes a sincere interest in her patients' lives, which is increasingly rare. Dr Baker is the most unethical physician I've encountered. At our first appointment, she ordered labs and referred me for neurocognitive testing, which required me to take two days off work to complete. I then tried to get the results from her for months. At first, her office said that they hadn't received the results. I, however, checked with the psychologist who did the testing, and she had already sent Dr Baker's office the results. After several follow-ups and requests for my medical records that they disregarded, her office finally arranged for her to call me. The call was less than five minutes, and all she said was that she doesn't have any concerns. She then charged me $350 for that phone call and said she wants to run more labs and see me for another appointment (for what?!?). Worst doctor I have ever seen. As a woman with multiple chronic health conditions I have seen more than my share of physicians and specialists. It was then, that I left her practice, and found my current team of truly warm, caring PROFESSIONALS who do not charge the patient cash (or anything) for the needles and syringes for my monthly lab work. No healthcare professional that I have spoken with about this cost, has ever charged patients for those items associated with patient care. Why am I reviewing this today? In the midst, of quarantine and being an immune compromised person, during the COVID19 pandemic I received a text message. From an out of state phone number, so I read it... Inexcusable behavior. It has been more than 5 years since I last visited her office. I took copies of my healthcare records and made it clear that I was no longer a patient of hers. Today's text was a group message to her patients. A callus email stating her office is going to telemedicine visits for one week. I can not believe that the doctor has not updated her files in five years. Warning for the health and safety of you or your loved ones, do not go to Dr. Susan Baker. A doctor who treats diseases that affect mostly older individuals, but won't accept Medicare. How helpful is that?

I have been going to Dr Baker for over 7 years. She is extremely knowledgeable, keeps up with current research, and doesn't give up or make you think it is all in your head, when you come in with a new symptom. She goes above and beyond to make sure you get the treatment you need. For example,many of my friends had a series of 3 shots in their knees to cushion them so they would be in less pain. They frequently complained the shots didn't work. Dr. Baker chose a 5 shot course and used her brand new portable ultrasound ( not common practice then)to help identify where to place the shots. I am still walking with zero to minimal pain. She also has a great set of doctors she refers to if it looks like you need another specialist. Her only downside is that like all good, caring doctors, sometimes you have to wait and the waiting room is small. I was a patient of Dr. Baker's and called her office when I had a cough to ask a quick question about medication. They said they'd ask her to call me if she had time and that there may be a charge for a tele-visit but they would confirm before any call. I even specifically said they could NOT charge the card I used at my last appt. They never confirmed I would be charged and assured me the dr would call me at a designated time. She never did, so I reached back out and ended up being connected to her for a 1 minute phone call where she suggested I take over the counter allergy meds. Days later, they charged $350 to the card from my previous appt without any communication. I only realized after seeing the charge in my bank account. I called to ask about it and spoke to multiple people, all saying I had to pay. Someone even said they checked with Dr. Baker on giving me my money back and after speaking to her, they would not be refunding me. The staff was so cold and difficult. I was referred to Dr. Baker when I was looking for an internist in 2009. My only hesitation was I was misdiagnosed by 4 reputable doctors in the past. As a 40yo woman, with a history of misdiagnosed hashimotos thyroiditis/thyroid cancer that spread to my cervical lymph nodes, I was understandably a little guarded when I made my first initial appointment to meet her. I can only boast and rave about the one on one care she has been giving me all these years. Each time, I have been given an appointment of my liking. I have spent a conspicuous amount of time with her during each exam. She discovered I was suffering from a bout of acute anemia & iron deficiency. She made sure that same day my blood results came in, I met with the hematologist/oncologist (he was a great dr too, just like her!), they both made sure I got an appointment the following am for a blood transfusion - it was Christmas Eve. Whenever I had to have iron infusions for the iron deficiency, she ALWAYS popped in and ensured the orders were correct, and made sure all my questions and concerns were answered with the administrating nurses present. Her reassurance was extremely appreciated. I considered the new illness debilitating, and it was somewhat overwhelming at the time. I continue to see Dr. Baker, even though I have a team of doctors at UCLA. I believe she is worth the extra trip, expense and my valuable time - because I can always count on her competence. She makes sure nothing is missed, by taking a thorough history, as well as speaking to my other doctors to update them on her findings. I am not one to judge an office by its decor, location or the staff. But, I must say I think her staff is pleasant, a direct extension of who she is. Her office manager and assistant are so efficient and thorough. Bottom line, I have referred at least a dozen people who have seen her, and every single one of them not only continue to see her as a patient, they also rave about her wonderful bedside manner and excellent diagnosis and treatment plans. read more

Would have continued under her care had I not changed employers/insurance plans, but she's one of the best, and happy I had her for the time I did. When I land with another carrier she accepts, I will try to begin seeing her again. My condition has been troublesome, landing me in Cedars Hospital once for 12 days. I found Dr. Baker to be a very professional, thorough clinician, very well-trained and experienced about my illness and open to making me better. I barely know what she looks like because that's how little I've actually seen her in my 3 visits to her. She gave me extensive testing which I already had from other specialists and which I didn't even want or need. I had to order my own tests from the lab and hospitals & look up the results online because she was so vague over the phone. She also called me 3x to tell me the result of another test so obviously records aren't being well kept there. I was ignored by one receptionist and flat out lied to by another about the results of a test. When I went to another doctor she said I was treated INHUMANLY because I had not been given aggressive treatment for my disease and that I was obviously sick from my disease. I was hospitalized after I got some injections at her office because I was convulsing for two hours. I let her assistant know and the response was " I'll have her call you" guess what, she never called. I get the hint that this office doesn't want to treat me for whatever reason that may be...but maybe just tell me that instead of letting me suffer. I went to Dr. Baker for the first time yesterday. I have had the same internist for 20 years and so, miserable that I had to change doctors I arrived at her office full of anxiety and trepidation, bubbling over with ridiculous panic and neuroses. Taking a geriatric parent to an appointment can be challenging. Dr. Baker is patient, thorough, very detailed, and has a wonderful manner. Additionally she is current on latest studies, making us all feel confident. Doctors sometimes do not even make eye contact with the patient, but converse with the offspring, which offends both patient and adult offspring. She will suggest other things besides what her office provides, other ways you can help yourself feel better. This part is up to you. She won't make your yoga appointment for you or schedule a recommended referral (that's your job), but she will give you a well rounded discussion to the best of her ability and provide treatment to you within the boundaries of what she is able as a Rhuematologist/Internist. My primary physician moved across town so I switched to Dr. Baker for primary care at the advice of a Doctor whose opinion I highly value. I have now seen her twice and think she is absolutely excellent. The office waiting area is comfortable. The wait itself was not too long on either visit. I work during the day and often have a busy schedule that needs rearranging to make office visits. When I make the effort to be on time I expect the same courtesy from others. Some other Dr's stack appointments in a way that guarantees they will be running late everyday. I understand why some Dr's do this, I run my business in the most profitable way I can, so why shouldn't they be allowed to do the same? Luckily this does not seem to be Dr. Bakers strategy and I am very thankful for that. Parking across the street is free for two hours in the Rite-Aid lot. That is a big improvement from my previous Dr. who was based out of the medical towers in Centruty City. There valet is the only option. I avoid valet like the plague but was willing to make an exception in the name of quality medical care. I will certainly keep going to Dr. B. Here staff are all very friendly and professional. She has a very comforting demeanor. It is obvious that she genuinely cares about her patients and will do everything she can to help them be as healthy as possible. She also has a very good knowledge of local specialists for referrals. Now that I think about it I should have switched to her from my old provider a long time ago. I hope this review is helpful to someone. I think a standardized patient review system for medical professionals is badly needed. Maybe Yelp can meet that need. Oh yeah, one more thing. I wouldn't recommend this doctor. She was nice at 1st and really seemed to care but once you pay the 350 yearly office fee things change. At times I felt like I just got on her nerves. I remember one time without my permission she called my psychiatrists and told her I was having a mental breakdown which wasn't true. I initially started seeing Dr Baker many years ago as my Internist. Dr Baker is double board certified as an Internist and a Rheumatologist. She is a brilliant Physician, a careful diagnostician, and a lovely human being! She thinks outside of the box, is aware, and encourages both traditional and alternative healing methods. Dr Baker has a good knowledge of supplements, of inflammatory foods, and encourages acupuncture as part of my arsenal of treatments against inflammatory disease. Normally, I hate coming to doctors but I don't mind coming here. Dr Baker is the best and so is her staff. Humberto is great. I come here on a regular basis and I feel at home when I come here. The decor is nice and there is also free wifi in the building. She spent almost 30 minutes with me on my first consultation/visit and was very attentive and wrote everything down. My old doctor was not as nice and sweet as Dr. Baker. I see that everyone gives her five stars so something must be right. I thought I had a ear infection but soon found out with her help and the help from other doctors that she referred me to that I actually had TMJ. It is something she doesn't specialize in but she helped me find doctor after doctor I needed and had been the guiding light. She calls me once a week to see how I am and her entire staff was there through a really had time for me. I am still battling the pain but knowing that I have her on my side is awesome and I will get better. I have referred her to everyone I know. I have been seeing Dr. Baker for several years for lupus (SLE) and know I am receiving the best possible care. She and her staff (especially Emberto who is a fantastic nurse and office manager) have been with me every step of the way and proactive to keep me well. My office appointments are usually always on time but I know if they are running late it's because another patient had some sort of crisis that Dr. Baker was handling. I don't mind the rare and brief wait in these cases because if I was in crisis I'd want the extra care as well. My appt. time with Dr. Baker is for as long as necessary-- some days I only require a short update other times the appt can be quite long. (Note: I see her approx. every 6 weeks) I never feel as through she is "watching the clock" to move me out faster for another patient. And Dr. Baker and her nurses are ALWAYS available by phone if I need them.
