I moved to Orange County last year, so I haven't gone back in a while because of the distance. They called me out of the blue to see if I would like to book an appointment. I ultimately agreed since I loved this dentist. They booked my appointment without asking me about my insurance. It's not until I came in they noticed my insurance was inactive. I told them I recently switched jobs so that's probably why. The reception asked for an updated insurance card which I did not have on me. I was not told to bring in insurance when booking my appointment so I did not bring it with. They told me it would be $500 without insurance so I am running around trying to find my insurance info because I obviously don't want to pay $500 out of pocket. I asked if they could search me by name or social which they ended up doing. (They should have done this in the first place). They forced me to sign a document that said they would charge me $500 if I couldn't find my insurance info in order for me to sit in the chair. Once I sat down, the receptionist notified me that they did find my insurance but I was no longer in network so it's going to be $350... at this point I'm frustrated that I drove all the way downtown from Irvine, CA. I also was not going to pay $350 when I can go to a dentist that is in my network. This was just for a teeth cleaning. When I tried to leave they threaten to charge me $150 for last minute cancellation! If they had done their due diligence in checking my insurance when booking my appt, this situation wouldn't had happened. When booking a patient's appointment, any medical office double checks your insurance to make sure you're still in network especially if you haven't been there in a year. Every year people get new insurance cards. They tried to blame me and said I should've notified them when booking my appt that my insurance changed. I clearly didn't know it changed otherwise I wouldn't had drove an hour and a half. Either way it's the receptionists job to take all of that information for patients coming into their office. I had to argue back and forth with the manager for 5 mins before they let me leave without charging me $150. I'm NEVER coming back here again. The unprofessionalism is out of this world. I swear the office wasn't like this when I used to come in regularly. Also want to say half of these 5 star reviews are fake!!! They incentivize their patients to write good reviews and give them feee stuff.

I had a crown placed here about a year ago that immediately had noticeable gray discoloration. When…read moreI went back, I was told to get it bleached -- but they didn't offer bleaching at the time and referred me out. Two other dentists advised against drilling into a new crown and said it should be replaced by the original dentist at no cost since I had just got it done. After months of back-and-forth, this office finally offered bleaching in-house. I was told that if bleaching didn't fix it, they would replace the crown at no cost. I paid $120 for bleaching, and while it slightly improved the color, the discoloration is still visible. When it came time to replace it, they changed their position and said they would have to charge DOUBLE what I originally paid because insurance wouldn't cover a crown on the same tooth and I was slightly outside a year -- even though the delay was caused by their runaround. So despite their original promise to replace it if the bleaching didn't correct the color they were now charging me more than the original crown. The front desk is overall nice, but - it's just a very unprofessional dental office and It's also in a horrible part of DTLA. DO NOT RECOMMEND - go somewhere else.

He's also treated many of my family members including my sister, mom, and dad. My dad actually went back here recently which is why I noticed that my original review disappeared for some reason... Unfortunately I had to go to a different dentist when Dr. Park was on vacation or there was some scheduling issue I don't quite remember the exact reason, but I unfortunately haven't been able to make my way back here since because the new dentist I go to schedules future appointments each visit and I've just been too busy/lazy to break the cycle and move back to DTLA Smile, but I'm sure I'll eventually find my way back here. I was thrilled when I found Dr. Hanigan, whose office is located in the beautiful PacMutual building in DTLA. They also have an office in Encino. Dr. Hanigan has been practicing for over 30 years and seems to be very efficient at dental work. In addition to having one filling repaired, I had my teeth cleaned on a second appointment. I was expecting a hygienist as per other offices, but Dr. Hanigan, herself, cleaned my teeth! She did it thoroughly and swiftly. When I called for an appointment they didn't have an opening for another two months. However, I was able to get on their cancellation list. At first I thought they wouldn't call back, but they did and I was able to get in pretty quickly. So don't be discouraged if you call and there isn't an available appointment right away. It's likely they can get you in but you have to be flexible and not choosy when they call you back. Myra, the front office person, is great at working with you and very helpful.

I was super nervous at first, but from the very beginning, everyone made me feel comfortable and welcomed. The doctor is very compassionate and takes the time to explain everything and make sure you understand what is needed. George is also so nice and patient. During my cleaning, he kept asking me if I was doing okay, which really helped me relax. All the staff are super nice and caring. Weaponized Sloppiness…read more Horrific. Both myself and my daughter were mortified at the desperation. My daughter described a multi level sales scheme that involved a bogus VIP membership, hundreds of dollars in product gimmicks, and more than $20k in upsells. I tried to extend the benefit of the doubt. My experience was similarly disappointing**. Further, the dentist (Dr. Hanel?) was the worst one. I already had aligners; daughter had braces. Great experiences with former providers. Thought we might switch to a closer location than previous provider, but this all turned out to be a colossal waste of time. Oh, they did provide a 3D scan with Xrays, but my main dentist said most of it was poorly done and difficult to read which means that not only do we have to commute a longer distance for quality care but I'll now have to sit through all that again. Note to provider: Be mindful of HIPAA in your response. **Informed consent doctrine (Cobbs v. Grant, 8 Cal.3d 229). California requires that patients be informed of all reasonable treatment alternatives, not just the one the provider prefers. Also worth noting: Chart failed to meet AAP documentation standards for treatment staging. This kind of weaponized sloppiness is what separates the newly licensed (recent grad, less than 3yrs for CA) from the seasoned professional.

Recently I finished up a root canal, my first (and hopefully last!), with the insertion of a permanent crown. My friends and coworkers told me it would be a miserable time, but thanks to the quick response and the endodonist I was referred to, it went very well and was pretty much a painless experience all the way through. It's in an unassuming building surrounded by boba shops and Japanese restaurants. Walk through the glass door next to Kouraku and take the elevator to the third floor. The interior at Little Tokyo Dental Group is clean, simple and modern. All the staff here are honest and provide great care. The receptionists are kind and helpful whether it's in person or on the phone. Rosie (I hope that's right!) is a wonderful assistant, Dr. Fukui is caring and patient, and Jo Ann the dental hygienist is a joy to talk to. I've never felt pressured into doing more treatments than necessary. I'm very happy that this dental office is in network with my dental insurance. I believe they provide validation if you park at the Joe's parking structure on second street. It's the parking lot painted in red, orange and yellow. I was ready for a terrible consultation considering how long it had been. My diagnosis wasn't bad at all - a couple of small cavities they wanted to keep an eye on, and a teeth cleaning that actually was done well and fairly pain free. The price was reasonable, and they didn't upsell me on anything and I got an appointment for 6 months down the line. They gave me some great advice - recommending a waterpik which I got right away. I ended up making an appointment for my husband and he had the same experience. We're happy to have found our regular dentist now!
